FANTASTIC video. Amazing vehicle tour. Thanks so much!!! My Landie is in Zimbabwe and wishing we had your electrical company and roof manufacturer down here!
The setup looks great with practical layout and well hidden cables and other services. Ram mounts are awesome, I've used them for years in professional capacity as well personal use. 👍👍
Another great video - I love to see other people's setups. I have the more traditional fold-out roof tent and if I could go back I would definitely try to stretch my budget to get the setup you have here. It's much, much better. Your mistake that came good would typically be phrased in English as "a blessing in disguise" 😊 and in my experience they are rare 😂
Felicidades.
Hi guys, looking good, I have a few suggestions that may assist feel free to ignore them if they wouldn't work for you 1/ The gap between the rear seat and platform could be bridged with some fabric, as the seat is lowered it pulls it tight and when you add a mattress over the top you wont feel it. 2/ The mattress, if you look at a tri-fold mattress you could have it so that it folds down with the back seats and can be left in the rear or removed whenever you need to pull it out and will cover the gap as well. 3/ if the kids sleep "top to tail" this would give them a little more room as we are broader in the shoulders than the feet :) Hope the suggestions help!
Thanks! And all suggestions are welcome 😊. We'll have a one piece mattress and stick it in the roof so it doesn't take up space inside the cab. Yes, we (or the kids) need to sleep with our heads on trunk's door side to have space over our heads and benefit the larger space. Will see with the new mattress if this gap needs to be covered, tested this weekend with inflatable camp mattresses and was all good like this, but nice suggestion 👍. Cheers :)
It looks very good. The quality is really on a nice level. I can still see some space to use, but you will be able to judge it yourself after a few trips 😉have fun !
Many congratulations for the build!! It’s beautiful. However I think that the must of keeping the kids sleeping inside the car carries some compromises to the setup, which maybe will force you to change it again in the future. Please don’t take me wrong, the build is amazing. I’m also affected by the kid factor, so I’m also all the time thinking on it. I think that an off-road trailer with the roof top tent for the kids would allow you a less compromised interior layout of the car and much more suited for two person overlanding. I mean a small off-road trailer that could allow you to carry a lot of the stuff out of the car, so the interior could be more camper van style let’s say. As the kids grow more, the sleeping space for them will become more compromised. And when they begin to prefer not go with you (which is the most common when they achieve some age) you will have a compromised setup for two person. Summarizing, I would go for perfect two person interior of the car closer to camper van style, and add a trailer for the kids and all the stuff of the hole family. Please don’t take me wrong, I love the work you have done and all the travels you have published and the channel. I just want to give you a honest and constructive feedback. I really want you enjoy this new setup a lot with the family and keep waiting for new videos of your adventures
Thanks for your message and always great to have insights :) We're thought about all this and sure a trailer would be a great add to expand storage capacity but actually wouldn't be practical regarding our way of overlanding and where we like to fit in for the night with the Defender. A trailer would be too much of a hassle for us. We love the fact that it stays at "car size" and not needing anymore space than the car to stop overnight or drive around and stop on a regular parking place. As we didn't plan to chill or cook inside of the car, this setup is still accurate without the kids as all the storage space is used for tools, recovery kit, useful spare parts, and cooking items. The day they stop traveling with us or have their own 4x4 and follow us (haha a mum's blindness of kids leaving home and living their own life without us😅), we simply won't need to move our personal bags for the second bed. In any case, all was thought and made regarding our needs, how we like to travel, and our priorities (learnt over all those years of owning this car and going out with it) 👍.
Hi Emeline, great video, having had the roof top tent in the past and having now the pop up roof in the Defender, its really a difference,? I have a 90 and here the conversion is 1/3 of the car, i understand that is faster to set up, you have a bigger interior, but please share your comments on this.
We have the same concept as previously (4sleeps in/on the car) but the pop-up roof makes a huge positive difference compared to roof top tent. We get used to everything and it wasn't a hassle to use the rtt. But it's way more convenient now, especially in bad weather, no more ladder, fixed heater, chatting with the kids before going to sleep.
Nice and tidy setup... just a couple of questions: What happens with your kids grow up - is there enough room for them both to seat in the back? What is the overall weight of your Defender? Does it go over the vehicle's GVM rating, especially when you are all packed up and the 4 people inside?
Thanks! If our son grows super big it might become uncomfortable 😅 but we'll see overtime. We didn't weight it yet since water system isn't done but I don't think it'll be heavier than our previous setup as we removed quite a lot of heavy items and it was all good with gvm. Of course will only be able to confirm when all is done.
I love the setup and the aluminium section you've used looks very professional. I will look into using that in my build. Where did you get it from? Thanks Alan
Thank you for sharing Emeline, i was looking forward to see this video and i am sure the amount of thought process to fit everything was a long and detailed one. I am learning much from your electrical and interior setup and planning my own defender based on your build (@sweetdefenderlife). I share your excitement of your new setup and looking forward to see the potential of your setup in your future videos. The missing part of the video is the water system? Keep those videos coming :)
We love the joy in your face when you talk about your camper. What a work art .
😊 thank you
This car is perfect 😊😊😊, it looks great and the space in the car is realy well used. And very neat build

Thank you! Those Ram mounts are great 👍 we're missing a cup holder and the Ram one is way to big to fit on our cubby box

Thanks! Yes not much space for those types of items but prefer having tools to get us out of a bad situation than too many clothes or pans ;)
A great setup you got there congratulations can't wait to see a new adventure with the defender 👏👏👏👏👏

Looking very nice Emilie very cosy 👍🏻
I think the same too 😊
Hi did you cut the rear door card to fit the gas strut or to stop it hitting the extra storage you've had fitted?
No need to adapt anything for the ARB drawer. We had to cut it because of gas trut
Aussi, pourquoi pas une remorque, pour des voyages plus longs comme la famille Nesta !👍👍❤
