I revisited this after two years. Regarding the comments on the trainee, I think we were all pretty green those first days and weeks. I spent two weeks on a road crew as part of my OJT @ $1.60 an hour in the late 60's on the defunct SP. I then had valuable additional training at Inglewood Yard in Houston. There was some kind of resolution between the union and SP, so a road crew from the Houston & Texas Central, my road and owned by SP, had to work for three months in the hump yard. Very valuable experience for me and the other newbie brakeman. The conductor and engineer were old heads who took the time to impart their knowledge.
Nothing wrong with being green, standing in front of the power! Using the ladder on main line side! Dropping his lunch bag! Not looking! I hope this kid learned or he will be dead real soon
I know this woman Hogger. Worked with her many times. Georgetown is a main point to change off crews as it can hold 10,000 ft and not blocking a crossing.
Sorry to be so off topic but does someone know of a way to get back into an instagram account? I somehow lost the account password. I love any help you can offer me
@Angel Ian i really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and im trying it out now. I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
When a Cn gets a crew change so close to Mac yard it is a three man crew not a two man crew. Therefore the green vest wouldn’t be a trainee. By ordering a three man crew they can force the crew to do more work after they yard the train.
Wow have things ever changed since the 1980's. There were no female engineers, no yellow and orange vests. Everyone wore jeans and a jean jacket, chain smoking in the cab was mandatory, you got on and off while the train was moving. The pros could do it at 15 mph and made it look easy.
I just wanted to reach out and thank you very much for not making women freight engineers out to look different. I appreciate not always being pointed out as a minority. Over the years I imagine this career will get more popular to women as my generation grew up on Thomas the tank engine and that is definitely what for me hooked on trains.. Keep up the excellent work and keep showing us more can video
Of course! Although I have stated it is rare to see a female engineer/conductor, there is absolutely no doubt that they can perform just as well railroading as their male counterparts. Thanks for watching I'm glad you enjoyed! Notch 8 and sand, Adam
Add more women and maybe off / break times will be better, more staff available, less demand on each one to get it all done. It'll help by putting girls near, in or operating them in places such as rail museums or other controlled areas public can access the experience. And more videos of women and girls learning and doing these tasks will give more reason for women and girls to go for the experience and careers. Its great to see men and women working for their own good and for the economy and country.
6:46: Engine 2179 must be an ex Santa Fe because of the "gull wing" cab configuration. I know this because Santa Fe was the only railroad to have C40-8Ws in that cab configuration.
I wouldn't call it "rare". While it is true that there aren't as many female engineer's and conductors out there as this profession was male only for god knows how long, it's just like law enforcement, women are just as capable as getting the job done as their male coworkers.
Blake Trafford - Mile Post Productions Saying that female train engineers and conductors are "rare" (which they very much are) is not the same as saying that they aren't capable of doing the job.
I absolutely agree, however I called it "rare" not because of the female engineer but rather due to the crew change taking place at this location, the second unit in the consist, the train passing during a crew change, and the locomotives on the GEXR.
purelystellar0824 Occasionally. Depends if the crews on Eastbounds to Mac Yard from far away like U.S/Sarnia, etc are reaching their hours of duty limit, (12hrs). If so then they tend to plan crew changes at Georgetown station.
Well maybe where you are from it is not rare, but here on the Halton Sub crews run out of hours and their train needs to be re-crewed, and that doesn't happen often. I have been rail fanning the Halton Sub almost every weekend for 3-4 years now and have only seen 2 crew changes.
That trainee looked like a deer in head lights going to the other side of the train 2 tracks doesn't look dropping his lunch door is open wow this kids going to get hurt real fast better smarten up probably all ready fired
@@jeremiahjeremiah1319 even the video states trainee also yellow at CN was trainee. Did you notice only Hogger and conductor got off not 3 so the 3rd guy was a conductor in training
@@jessehill7999 I work for CN rail as a conductor. As I mentioned, yellow vests are also for employees who have less then 2 years qualified as a conductor. So technically we wear yellow for about 3 years including the training period. But again, I'm not sure what the crew consisted of this day. Typically an engineer, brakeman and conductor
@@jeremiahjeremiah1319 weird usually mainline was conductor engineer when Mac still had road freight only road switchers had Engineer Foreman (conductor) and a break man. That kid looks like a deer in headlights if you ask me like he still in training, my self I’m off for training Sunday Winnipeg lol but have 8 family members there. The old man use to wear yellow vest just to stir the pot on the Buffalos out of MacYard Toronto south lol clearly it’s a stack train so this is why I assume he is fresh also his actions not to bright for someone who could be 2 years in lol
TheAdamRides I thought the *rare* was referring to the fact their is a lady employee, my mistake sir. But crew changes are just crew changes we re-crew train anywhere
metraF40PH163 oh I see don't worry, and hmm interesting, I haven't caught many crew changes around the CN, CP area here in Ontario, maybe they re-crew more often and I just don't know about it.
What I find rare is the sd40-2 ex Southern Pacific tunnel motor. Great catch. :D
Thanks! Pretty cool to see that old power still working away.
That's a sd45t-2
Enjoyed you video very much, nice to see videos from our area, thanks for sharing.

So cool
What ever happened to none smoking workplaces? Locomotive cabs are workplaces.
What were the green & white wagons in the background?
double decker passenger cars for GO rail, a Canadian passenger rail company.
Wonder what was the passing freight train speed....
If the cars are 80 ft long it was approximately 1 car per second. so 54.545455 Miles per Hour

9392's color scheme reminds me of the SP.
judging by the fact that it's a T unit, I'd be willing to bet it was an SP engine at some point in life.
