I love the audio in the subs. The creaking and groaning of metal puts you on edge. You Sub is so fragile but in the right place it can do a lot of damage.

In addition to the amazing sound design, as others have mentioned, I'm also really impressed by the underwater visuals. The little bubbles, and the way they move relative to the camera/etc gives a proper sense of actually being in water, as opposed to so many video games where water often feels like a flat surface layer and then just "normal air" under it.
You realize that they have been doing these events for a while right? Last submarine event was maybe 2-3 years ago
Yes! The addition of marine snow (the little white particles floating in the water) is really cool as well!
@@thelastohioan7145 Aaah, the marine snow is mainly what I meant, I just didn't know the term for it. Really does a lot to make the water feel like a 3D space!
not to mention depth charges. It was part of a modification mechanic for boats before bluewater and coastal water boats were even separated. At the time it was a cool gimmick

Idk what I do wrong but I only managed to kill one sub in fletcher, depth charges do not work for me, but I sunk 6 fletchers in a single match
I really can't do submarines I keep getting blown out of the water like a fish in a barrel, but I am absolute death with a Fletcher.

I can't kill anything with the fletcher. I go right on top of them and spam depth charges and it's completely ineffective.
@@paint4r How deep they are? If sub is below 60m you cant do shit to it. If it even a meter less deep...well one depth charge - one kill.
I didnt even know they added submarines💀. However that seems like such a good change for naval that was a little bit underwhelming, Hopefully this brings more players into naval.

@@90enemies The ones that go, will stop playing Naval all together. I technically stopped playing Ground RB. Only playing it with friends. Otherwise Im only AirRB or Naval EC mode.
@@Hugofoxli Just as the Snail planned then? win win for them. The Naval chumps leaves their garbage mode so one day Gaijin can shut it down, and move to the modes that has way more premium vehicles and offers.
@@90enemies the other modes, the other games, there are plenty of options. Both fun naval battle games being fucked by SS doesn’t mean that we have to choose one of these two shit to play. If you really want to play something related to Battleships, ultimate admirals will be better than this stupid game if SS is implemented and released in normal gamemode.

The issue with this gamemode is that the Fletchers KNOW exactly where all the subs started from and where they might be, whereas IRL they had zero idea if a sub was around or not until someone ate a torpedo.
I wonder how detection works. is there sonar implemented?
@@beiragusa there's sonar but dunno how realistic it's implemented ingame. you can see a 6th sense of the sub with every ping if you're too close to them but beyond that you're given a red mist in your map if it detects a sub. someone also said that you can dissapear from sonar if you stop your engine
@@piscessoedroen IRL it was extremely difficult to deal with U boats attacking Cargo ships exactly because the U boats were so stealthy.
TBH I'm a little cheesed that this mission is Americans versus German U boats, as the Brits put a hell of a lot of work into developing anti U-boat tactics.
As far as I can tell the subs have a detection radius that the sonar can pick them up in. Going slower and deeper makes you harder to detect.
Curious to see how subs play out in something like enduring confrontation

i love it. it is fun. little bit more range for the torps and more subs would be cool. would be the perfect addition to the navy tree.
These torps are definitely supposed to have more range, and the subs should have a much deeper crush depth (it's correct on the stat card), but I assume they "shrunk" things for the event in the interest of testing and gathering data.
I was inside a Type VII once and I deffinetly need to go back to north germany and visit that beauty again❤

I'm very impressed of your tactics on the U-boats for like mines trying to kill you underwater and staying silent of the whole round.
Really loving this event so far. I've been listening to das boot soundtrack during playtime and it's really immersive, both side gameplay is really fun and balanced.
I love the mechanic where you could get away from the destroyer by slowing down the engine to be undetected by sonar.

they're not stealthy though. The map constantly pinpoints their exact area and planes and boats can see exactly where they are from several km away

War thunder players experience what it sounds like to play a subsim.
Honestly anyone who has played Silent Hunter and alike games can tell that there's no more horrifying sound than hearing propellers chug through the water at a fast pace towards you and then ASDIC start pinging while you're in a metal tube without windows hoping that the incoming charges dont land right on top of you.

Honestly everymatch ive gotten has most of the subs dead and gone within 5 mins
I think people are still learning how to use subs. It too me a few rounds to get a proper feel for the sub and it's controls.

Better than WOWS in making you powerful and stealthy but still vulnerable. No 20+ knot submarines here with this era of subs

I seriously hope they add more Gamemodes like this, where you have specific objectives and goals, as opposed to the team v team we have now.
That, or they add Submarines to the tech tree. I love the coastal Fleet and I really want more adventure with the smaller Sub chasers.

I wonder if your ballast tanks can get damaged enough or the dive planes jammed so you lose depth control and slowly sink deeper and deeper...

I think that's already in the game with the emergency ascent
There were different status effects when you get damaged I can't remember all of them but I think one of them prevented me from diving more.
Both are present already. Air tanks damage prevent you from regular (not emergency) ascent. The ballast tank damage prevent you from going down. But its hard to get, cause subs are just so papery.
Well, I answered my own question today! After dodging several depth charge runs by ducking into yellow depth territory, I was too damaged to repair at depth, so I had to semi-surface (down heavily at the stern) and get some quick repairs in, needless to say I was under fire at the time. Dived again and dodged another depth charge run but wasn't deep enough, took damage and started going down. Couldn't get the bow up, emergency blow did nothing and I imploded. Didn't take long to get down to implosion depth so there wasn't the Das Boot style period of impending doom, but it was long enough for me to realise that I was buggered and there was nothing I could do. So...yes, you *can* lose control and sink to implosion depth.
One of the few things to actually get me interested in WT again after a lot of years.

I absolutely love this, just played my first battle it was alot of fun, only destroyed one ship but it was epic.im on console so it seems a tricky wirh all the buttons but im getting ther, i really hope this comes soon

I love how they can fire rounds at the subs at parascope depth, and somehow, the rounds can hit your conning tower at 7 meters below sea level.
Rounds can't be effective between 2 to 3 feet underwater.

The one thing I find frustrating is actually taking a victory as a sub. You will almost most of the time never get in range of the merchant ships before the destroyers get to you
I thought they bring terror to the enemies, but the Destroyers are literally destroying them.
They DID bring terror. To the crews of merchant ships. Destroyers were commissioned to counter that threat.
This event looks fun for naval enjoyers imma play it so I can semi play naval… gotta use a lot of communication and team effort

You can set your bombs to have a fuse to make makeshift depth charges to hit subs better(they had depth charges IRL but not war Thunder)

For some reason i feel like adding sonar to subs gonna change alot about the current gameplay.. like it could overpower them unless gaijin made a counter to that with a new mechanic and i think it complicates thing

Any torpedo threat is, that's ultimate weapon in WT. Just ships can't come close, usually you have to lure enemy into your spread.
Thats what we wanted over in World of Warships. Instead we got the equivalent of War Thunders Credit System.
