I am incredibly grateful for this channel and for these videos. The guests are amazing and the questions are on point. Wow. I can’t thank who ever makes this enough. It has made me a better film maker and a better listener.
I love short films. Like it’s said, simplicity is genius. There are so many short film gems. They tell a story with a message or meaning. I’ve watched countless 10-12 minute videos on TH-cam and they’re better than almost all the full length movies in the theaters. I made two films in filmmaking class that were aired. One was a story about a man who lived alone. When he saw a lost dog or cat he’d give them a home on his 110 acre piece of land. He lived in a one room building with his many dogs, which fluctuated if he found a new dog or if one passed away. He took me to his ‘doggie’ graveyard and told me that’s where he wanted to be buried. He said “I want to buried next to my doggies”. He was a man with a heart of gold. My film made him ‘famous’ in his area. After I finished the program he wanted to do a sequel. He loved the attention from me and after the film was finished he loved how people paid attention to him and gave him so much respect. At the beginning he walked slumped over. His clothes were ragged and his beard was scruffy. But each week I went to film him it was like watching a flower bloom. He began to dress better, he trimmed his beard and he walked with his back straight. If you know film you would realize that this caused a huge hit to continuity. When I edited the program I couldn’t use a lot of the footage because of the drastic difference in his appearance. I’m thinking of making a film showing how he changed with each week, and then after the program was aired. The film changed his life and because I was going through a traumatic time it changed me as well.
99% of them should be awful - the goal should not be to make some timeless piece of art, it should be to make something period. There’s value in doing something badly.
And the truth is that it's very rare for a short film to be about anything that interests me. When it's not a documentary, it's an artsy-fartsy drama which moves at a snail's pace and includes tons of pathos and ennui. Speaking as someone raised on Lucas and Spielberg...bleah.
This is not related to the video. But how do you know what is bad criticism. Like bad writer, bad critic don’t care about the craft or if someone improve in their writing. I know that judging a final product will not help the product but it can help future films.
_"Hollywood loves new talent."_ (Hollywood shamefully continues to reboot, remake, and rehash previous movies) Short films should be screened outside of film festivals. Let audiences judge a score on an app.
99% are awful? Who the fudge said they weren't?... This "short film" you have just made here is a case in point! "Oh look at me! look at me! I want attention!.."...the nature of "short films".....attention seeking.
I have screened films for a large festival I would say in the short film category 95% are poorly executed. Either the premise is weak, the introduction fails to generate any interest, theres bad pacing, and the climax is a letdown. Out of the remaining 5% some are amusing, and maybe 1% are fantastic. Its about the same for the features that are submitted. I think a lot of people think "Well I made it, may as well pay the submission fee and try my luck" but they really miss the mark. If you watch a film and it doesnt leave you saying "wow that was worth a watch" then I don't suggest it gets advanced because people don't pay to attend a film festival to watch poorly paced or mediocre films. The slots in the program are there for STAND OUT film. Not "meh that was okay" This woman is WRONG. Short films ARE a waste of time if they are a poor example of what youre capable of creating. They're also a waste of time if they are boring.

1:27 “do producers watch short films? Of course they do, they’re in a constant state of no ideas and are always on the lookout for new flavors.

short films get into the story quicker. I've written them and know someone who just sold a short horror script recently

99% of short films are terrible
Is this myth or opinion?
@@filmcourageboth!
Omeleto's different channels have so many binge worthy short films. Other short film channels also great. 99 percent of those are awesome. :)
If you go to festivals I would say most of the short films are actually pretty good
@@mickmartin4681 Very true!
