I was once having coffee in Bar Italia when Mr. Nighy walked in, as he passed I whispered under my breath to my then Fifteen-year-old daughter .”He's a very good actor and a snappy dresser. As he was leaving he lent in between us and said “thank you for both of those compliments”.A man who truly understands the sometimes, always, never 3 -button rule

A couple of years ago a friend of mine (also a snappy dresser) was sitting in Ole & Steen enjoying a coffee & pastry when Bill came and sat at the next table. After a few minutes Bill asked where my snappily dressed friend purchased his glasses frames from. A short chit chat and more confirmation that Bill is a very nice chap.

In the 1970s I remember seeing Bill Nighy at the Liverpool Everyman Theatre. The production was Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew" and he pretended to be a heckler from the audience shouting about what rubbish the acting was. There was a bit of an argument and he was invited to come on stage to see if he could do any better. He went on stage, took the playbook and gave a great impression of a member of the public trying to read Shakespeare on stage for the first time. He was really convincing. We thought then he would go on to great things.

Just love that he comes out and says that nudity is not essential to the plot or to the truth of a piece. He admits it's exploitative. Good for him. Wish more actors would say this and we might not have so many actors (99% of which are female) being used in this way.

It does sell tickets. It probably isn’t within his range, he can act seductive but probably not sensual. If it is convincing on stage or film then there is nothing wrong with it. Don’t be a prude, just say it is not for you.

But he's right, it's not essential at all. Some of the best and most celebrated movies in history and even today don't have any nudity. If selling tickets is all it's good for, then it says a lot of about our society as a whole, in a very negative way. Also, he's appeared naked in movies and been the love interest in _many_ roles. What he's saying is, "If you're not comfortable, don't be bullied into it. It's not necessary."

What a great interview, how grounded is Bill. Love this so much. I quit theatre acting as my very first role i got the lead, and while I loved being on stage and performing this wonderful interesting role, the very first night nerves were HELLISH. I wanted to leave on the first train, run away, the only thing that stopped me was a handful of liquer chocolates and knowing the shame it would bring my family and the whole cast but I felt like a lamb to slaughter lmao I never wanted to go through that again, I thought something was wrong with me and I was not a natural!! Feels a huge weight off hearing a master of acting such as Bill say that is natural and normal. It's funny how nobody talks of it, and you assume everyone else didn't experience any of that. I love his honesty. What a great man! The stupid thing is once you're on set everything is great and you love every second. Isn't that weird.

I just watched an interview with Don Adams, who said that as a stand-up comedian, he was so nervous he often vomited before the show. I wondered why he would do it if it was that unpleasant. I was talking to some musicians at Julliard and they told me that it is now fairly standard practice to take drugs before a recital or performance. I think it was beta blockers. I've also heard a number of other famous actors admit that they NEVER got over their stage fright, and were just able to mask their nerves during the performance.

Bill Nighy, one of the great actors in film! Loved him as “Viktor” in the Underworld saga!

It's incredible how much emotion Nighy is able to convey through such thick CGI. Obviously the VFX team deserves enormous credit for making Davy Jones look and feel so real but Nighy makes you afraid of him (and sad for him, in moments).

Always been a fan of Bill. Love these video's they cut through to the essence of the thing, and Bill just seems to get how to cut through all that BS...Thanks! As do the other actors and directors I've seen throughout this series.

Any movie or series he is is worth watching he has the knack that really great screen actors have of never over acting, just a tiny flick of the eye or purse of the lips conveys the moment. No wonder he is chosen by all the best film makers from Simon Pegg to Stephen Poliakoff, I would love to see him in a Coen brothers movie

I love him, but he does have a process. There is another video where he cites specifically step by step what he does to memorize lines for plays. I agree with him about the tosh of people avoiding learning lines before first rehearsal. When I went to uni they made it clear that in a professional environment it is expected we come day 1 to rehearsal knowing all our lines (being off book).

I have mad respect for when an artist suffers for their craft and it all pays off. During the pain/process you don't "know" it's going to work out. You're just taking a leap of faith
