I bought a pitcher of beer in a little tavern in downtown Athens, Ga, something like four decades ago. The place was packed, so I asked this pretty red-head if I could sit down with her. We talking a little while about various bullshit. She was a normal person. I too was an unknown guitar player around town; something to talk about. Then she got up to go behind the microphone with her guitar. I was pleasantly surprised to know she was the act. Times were different then. Music was free, easy, and dominated our culture, up close and personal. She was, in fact, Bonnie Rait before she was a big international star. I stayed an unkown. A wonderful memory.

Isn't that the truth?!! Yes indeed, free, easy, the constant background sound of our lives, in it and of it. Times were different then & surely "better" in our/my eyes in many ways.

Have lived many places. I discoverd I like little taverns/bars/whatever and the little "unknown" bands or artists. Some failed, some went on to be very well known. But the atmosphere was awesome. And most of those I met really prefer the small place and the interaction. NOT like concerts. At damn near 70, I still like the little venues. And ... some of the "big" names still sneak out after the big show to tiny local places.

Four decades ago, Bonnie Raitt had released six albums and was recording her seventh (The Glow, 1979).
      Bonnie Raitt (1971)
      Give It Up (1972)
      Takin' My Time (1973)
      Streetlights (1974)
      Home Plate (1975)
      Sweet Forgiveness (1977)

Midnight Special was a great show. I was maybe 6 or 7 and i recall being up watchingbwith my older cousin who was babysitting me and it strikes me as the best rock era in my humble opion. Born in 65 and my young momma have some great taste in music. That influenced me in a ton of ways. Yes it was rocks golden era even though there was some shitty stuff....the real soulful non computerized music was 100 times better than most of todays music. Its hard to listen to the radio these days. The blues based guitar rock of the era is hands down the best. Ask most 20 yr olds what they listen too and they may mention some newer artists but tgat playlist is.littlered with late 60s and 70s rock and roll physcodelia...ear candy for you mind AND body. All 3 of my kids listen to that era predominately. Although influence by what they heard growing up...when they flew the coop they took that musical taste with them. The folks had real talent back then. Not easy to fake it and Little Feat is just one example of that beautiful talent.

First time I heard Little Feat was in 1973 maybe 74. Have been a fan ever since. Have their music on album, cassette, or cd's. Could have seen them with Lowell George but x-wife not want to go the concert. Lowell passed away a few months later,
Could hear them all the time on the radio back in New York. Moved to Kansas City, Mo. would only hear them played if they were coming to town. or it was Lowell Georges birthday. I found out they were not on the play list, So much for classic rock in KCMO,
Moved to Tulsa.OK, same thing as MO.. The people out here have no idea of what they have missed

@@spankystrat49 Look, I'd hate to burst your bubble but here's what the person above was talking about.
There's a Japanese comic series called JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. It's very famous even outside of Japan. The author is a huge fan of western culture and likes to reference them in his work, most notably, songs and bands. He would name the characters and their abilities after them. For example, there's an ability called Bohemian Rhapsody and obviously, it was named after the song. Well you see, Little Feet just so happens to be referenced by the author too. One of the bad guys of the Italian Mafia in the series has an ability called Little Feet that could shrink people.

I saw Little Feat and Bonnie Raitt in Jackson Ms. on this 1977 tour. One of the best shows I have ever seen because Lowell George was on fire that night. He came on stage with Bonnie for about 20 minutes and played. Bonnie came on for Little Feat's 30 minute encore and they had a duel slide guitar battle that was SO GOOD. Just a great show.

    • @richardcraig5356
      @richardcraig5356 8 ปีที่แล้ว +9

+1stSaintsFan Lowell taught her to play the slide.. Just listen to anything she plays slide on, and you can hear Lowell. It's all we have left of him now!. His slide and voice, and timing, and arrangements are what made Little Feat the incredible band they were. Not to disparage Richie, Payne and the rest of the band members, but they just couldn't make Little Feat what it was when George was in front!

    • @lesfreligh4139

Have to disagree - Bonnie was playing long before she met Lowell (at least I think). Bonnie was playing with a long list of blues greats when she was just a teenager ....

One of best sounding shows I ever saw at that venue...... what a party . Big big fun . God bless that band.

Cool thing is, Emmylou Harris is still friends with Little Feat all these years later. I saw them in 2009 playing at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass fest, and I'm pretty sure it was Emmylou who got them into that gig. They actually played at the same time as her on a different stage, and at one point they urged the crowd to make a lot of noise so the people over at Emmylou's concert could hear us. The Feat is still badass and still out there doing great jam music.
