    You say using 4L is really only for snow, dirt and mud, and never dry tarmac... What about wet tarmac? I really want the jimny for heavy rainfall, can i use the awd without damaging it in the wet?

    • @alfo40
      @alfo40  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shad Appanah no, wet tarmac is not slippery enough to justify the 4wd use. You would not ruin anything as long as you drive on a straight line but the tighter you turn the harder it is for your transmission

      Also, 4x4 without a central differential should not be used for asphalt driving since you can break some components on the transmission

    what is practical and comfortable speed for jimny on highway. Does it feel stable on speeds above 100km/h. what about the wind noise due to squarish shape. Thanks.

    • @alfo40
      @alfo40  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nawaz Zaygham although it wouldn’t be my first choice as a highway companion it is pretty stable and driveable all the way to top speed on smooth roads. I generally set the cruise at 120km/h where fuel consumption and engine/wind noise are acceptable. If you came from an older jimny it is a good step ahead. I would say that the engine noise at higher speeds is what really keeps me from going faster.

    What is the cruising rpm at 100km/h on 4th gear?

    • @alfo40
      @alfo40  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I should check. Keep in mind my car is manual 5th gear. I can confirm it runs over 4000 in 5th @ 130kmh

    • @davidstepan8490
      @davidstepan8490 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I checked the gear ratios. 4th gear auto and 5th manual are very similar ratios. This means that 100km/h corresponds to roughly 3050 rpm on the highest gear.

    • @alfo40
      @alfo40  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Checked yesterday: manual gearbox, 5th gear, 100km/h barely over 3000rpm (3050/3100)

    • @alfo40
      @alfo40  5 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      mnls78 compared to the older Jimny is like driving a rolls royce! It is very comfortable on the suspension side. This only downside is the engine revving pretty high at those speed and the noise coming from it. With a 6 speeds gearbox this Jimny would be perfect!

      alfo40 6 speed would be no use with the NA 1.5 engine, revs would be too low for any useable torque if facing gradients on motorways in the same way the 6th gear was useless on the 1.33 petrol Toyota Yaris.

  • @RainDropBlopper

    When do you recomend to drive in 4H since you should only use 2H on the dry street

    • @alfo40
      @alfo40  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Zivojin Tomic only on snow, dirt, mud or offroad. When you drive 4H and 4L the front and rear axles are forced to spin at the same speed. If you are on a slippery environment the tire slippage will compensate for required speed difference between front and rear axle while turning. If you try the same on concrete the stress applied to the transmission will ruin the car and make it hard to drive anyway.

      @@alfo40 In my opinion it should be 4h not locked and 4l locked to be more functional. Pajero for example has 4h that's suitable for concrete and 4h locked that is not. When I have to use the locked one, I usually do it in low gear (4l). So that's the logic I see that they should have used in the Jimmy. I haven't checked if it is but knowing that you can switch from 2h to 4h at speed in the Jimmy makes me think it is not locked. For the 4l you have to stop and it leads me that it goes locked. That's just some logic, I will check if I am correct.

    • @alfo40
      @alfo40  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      B. Ivanov mitsubishi is the only one using the super select trasmission (2wd, 4wd high open diff, 4wd high lock and 4wd low lock) but I think it’s way too expensive and complex for the Jimny’s segment (it does require a third differential).Keep in mind that with the small Jimny you really don’t have all that power to put down on the floor and 90% of the time 2wd+ standard tracion control is more than enough to drive around safely. In a perfect world I would agree with you but in the real world the price/complexity would not be justified for the use destination of the little Jimny!

    Quicker than expected ! Still not sure why they didnt put the 1 litre boosterjet in this, and made fifth gear longer for motorways (obviously shorter fifth on NA engine so it maintains torque), because youre not going to use fifth off road !!! Most people can only afford one car, so I think Suzuki got it wrong with the engine and gearbox. I wouldnt thrash it on such a new engine either !

    • @alfo40
      @alfo40  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simon George I really don’t understand either. In Italy the Jimny is not on sale anymore because of the Co2 limits. Beside that I kind of like the actual engine on this particular car. It’s pretty good on torque at low rpms, relatively quick and happy over 5-6000. It does really miss a 6th gear for the highway but in a mixed use it has a nice mpg average (same I had with a NA smart 1000)
