    Onkyo will always be amazing. I found a TX-SR508 in goodwill for like $15 and it still works very well and strong. Onkyo is very reliable.

    Hi, the effect is perfectly retained. Bi-amping + bi-wiring improves the quality of the audio reproduction by the speakers (by driving the tweeters and woofers separately) - and does not modify the audio signal (like e.g. DSP effect processing). The quality of the original audio *signal* is basically left untouched.

    I used this as a response below, but thought I would share it here up top so others can get some light shed on the subject:
    ________________________________________
    There are 2 schools of thought here that you need to realize. Bi-Amping (Passive) which is the most commonly done, still using the crossover in the speakers, and Bi-Amping (Active) which completely bypasses the the speakers crossover.
    Since you are 9/10 times going to use Passive Bi-Amping, there shouldn't be much difference in sound quality, if any when using a receiver. All receivers are rated at 2 Channel Driven... assuming you listen to 2ch music, you will be getting the most power out of you amplifier and driving the speakers better (imo) by leaving the jumpers in and doing a conventional wiring setup (2 wires).
    When you Bi-Wire using a receiver, you use 4 Channels (4 integrated amps) thus degrading the performance of the receiver when driving the speakers... the same applies for the more channels you add in 5.1 or 7.1/9.1/11.1 setups.
    For example, my Pioneer Elite AVR SC-87 is 145W/ch @ 2Ch driven, or 845w Total Power @ 9ch driven... which roughly comes out to 93.3 W/ch when I use EVERY channel... So if I do a conventional wiring (2 wires), my front speakers will see 145W/ch each, but if I Bi-Wire, the speakers will see about 128W/ch each at Hi and Low cross over points @ 4 Channels Driven on my AV Receiver.
    If you really want to enjoy the full effects of bi-wiring, you need discrete separate amplifiers with a pre-amp, not a AV receiver. Just a note for you to ponder. Discrete Lower Power, vs High Current direct power in AVRs.

    @OnkyoEU I looked at my manual and my receiver can support bi-amping. I have connected the speakers to the A+B selectors and it works perfectly. I have also made sure the ohms haven't dropped under 4 ohms, so i know its safe. Thankyou very much for your instructions and for posting this video..

  • @OnkyoEU
    @OnkyoEU  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi there and thanks for your inquiry. You could look at it like this: by using bi-amping + bi-wiring, each driver for high and low is backed up by a separate amp module in the AVR. If you are using one cable for both high and low drivers, they will have to share the available power. Nethertheless you cannot say the power is "doubled", as the actual output also depends on a number of other factors. If you have the chance to bi-wire & bi-amp, it should be the preferred.

  • @OnkyoEU
    @OnkyoEU  11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Short version: the advantage is a better quality of the audio signal due to less interference between high and low signals. Long version: Wikipedia as a nice article on "bi-wiring" with more details. Thanks for asking!

  • @Plastpackad
    @Plastpackad 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just run bi-wire from a pioneer amp, woofers from speakers A and tweeters from speakers B. Rather thick cable for the woofers (using more wats) and a old thin speaker cable for the tweeters.
    Speakers are Wharfedale Diamond 225.
    Improvement in sound is remarkable! More detail, a more clear tweeter, a more rapid and articulated bass.
    A lot of people recomend to change the bridge on Dimonds from the original plate to a strip of real speaker cable. Could be worth a try if not bi-wiring.
    For my rig, bi-wiring from seperate speaker conection, A and B, made a huuuuge difference. MAGA - make audio great again!

  • @OnkyoEU
    @OnkyoEU  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @poolehart Usually you would use bi-wiring for speakers which have separate inputs for bass and tweeters (using a bridge in a non-bi-wired configuration). If you would like to connect a sub which shares the front outputs for satellites - there is usually no need to use bi-wiring in this configuration. The sub will filter out the frequency that it supports - and passing on the other frequencies to the satellites...

  • @OnkyoEU
    @OnkyoEU  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, if you want to use bi-wiring/bi-amping for your front speakers, 2 channels of the amp will be used for this - this means you can listen up to 5.1 in this kind of setup (vs 7.1 with no bi-wiring/bi-amping). If you would like to use bi-wiring/bi-amping AND 7.1 at the same time, you will need a dedicated amp for two channels (e.g. surround/surround back) - and connecting it to the multichannel pre outs.

  • @OnkyoEU
    @OnkyoEU  12 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi, you may experience some improvement by chance, but in general it is recommended to use an amplifier that provides bi-amping - and quality speakers that let you notice a difference, too...

  • @OnkyoEU
    @OnkyoEU  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, we are just explaining the different options of speaker connections here: single wires, bi-wiring and bi-wiring + bi-amping. If supported by amp and speakers, the combination of bi-wiring and bi-amping (e.g. as shown ~ 3:50) should produce best possible results.

  • @OnkyoEU
    @OnkyoEU  9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    +ulab2000 There is no issue using 8 ohm speakers - you just need to make sure that your AVR is configured to work with 8 ohms speakers (e.g. not using the 4-6 ohm settings in this case!). Regarding the banana plugs, they usually be bought at every local hifi dealer, please understand that we cannot provide any recommendations for any specific dealer. Thank you and enjoy your surround experience!

  • @OnkyoEU
    @OnkyoEU  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You will get best possible results by using both at the same time, bi-amping by the amplfier and using bi-wiring to connect the tweeters/woofers to the amp separately.

  • @OnkyoEU
    @OnkyoEU  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    @LetsPlay360andPC Hi, there is no fortunately no need to 'calculate' anything - if your speakers have 8 ohms, just set the AVR to 8 ohms speakers, too.

  • @OnkyoEU
    @OnkyoEU  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi, If supported by amp and speakers, the combination of bi-wiring and bi-amping (e.g. as shown ~ 3:50) should produce best possible results: this means that separate amps and separate cables will be used for low and high tones.

    Dumb thing I've never done was to remove the little plastic inserts and used banana plugs on the back of my Onkyo receiver. No idea why. Perhaps I never realised but I always used banana plugs to connect to the speakers so it really doesn't make any sense. Especially as using the bare wire looks untidy and is a pain when you have to move the amp. Have ordered a set of banana plugs!
    Feel so stupid not having done it before as it makes hooking up speakers much easier. Especially the time wasted double checking wires are the right way around. 😆

    Bi-wiring just don't make sense to my thinking, it just seem the same as normal wiring just extra wire being used. But Bi-Amp makes 100% sense to me cause i can control the individual part of the speaker the high end and the low end.

    What AWG was that speaker cable? 22AWG? I can see that milting if you listen at high volume, fire? I guess that's why you bi-wire, to give more overall copper and increase the load capacity. Or, just use 14AWG or better.

  • @tiddlesriddles
    @tiddlesriddles 10 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Why you would run two sets of cables from the same amplifier outputs to the speaker is beyond me. This does absolutely nothing different to just having one set of wires and leaving the jumpers in place between the two sets of terminals on the speaker. All you're doing is making more of a mess behind your amp and spending more on cables than you need to! Bi-amping, as is shown at the end of the video will indeed make a difference to the sound as you're essentially doubling the power to the speaker (one amplifier channel to each driver) but just bi-wiring is a completely pointless thing to do.

    • @RonnieTheFish
      @RonnieTheFish 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +tiddlesriddles I have to agree with you 100% I just think bi-wiring is a sales gimmick to spend more money in store when you buy a new receiver. But Bi-amp would be a great thing

    • @OnkyoEU
      @OnkyoEU  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, your amp should provide separate amplification channels for woofer/tweeter to enjoy bi-amping - a pure 2 channel amp with 1 channel for woofer and tweeter will not provide sufficient results ...

    • @OnkyoEU
      @OnkyoEU  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Flava Hello and apologies for late reply! We assume you are using active speakers, which have the amplifier part integrated in the speakers. These speakers use an un-amplified (e.g. line level) audio signal as input. Please do NOT try to connect the amplified speaker output of an ampifier/receiver/AVR to your active speakers inputs (RCA, XLR) - you risk to damage your speakers. Instead, please use an pre-out/line-out signal as input for your speakers.

    • @OnkyoEU

      Hi, when using single wiring method (with bridges between woofer and tweeter terminals), you can use either the woofer or tweeter terminals for your connection. For the sound, it's more important to use quality cables and to find the best positioning for your speakers (your speaker manufacturer might have some helpful information for you)

    Hi Onkyo EU, 1---while watching this video, a question came to my mind. When the power goes to the speakers at the back with" Jumper connectors" (i.e both the four terminals at the back are connected to each other) and then when we send the cables individually one set to terminals to Tweeters and other set of cable to woofers, does it not potentially make the tweeters to get more power to damage or blow them up?.....or is it that the crossover has filter not to damage the tweeters, but even in normal conditions the tweeters are blown off if volume is pumped up......
    2--- Did you feel any difference by doing bi-amp process?
    3-I am sort of audiophile and have 5.1 Polk audio new speaker system with almost new Yamaha receiver, do you think it will make a difference by doing bi-wiring, just want to get your review.
    Please share your thought about it. Thanks.

    • @OnkyoEU
      @OnkyoEU  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Arshad, to make it short: In general, we suggest removing the bridges at the speaker terminals and using separate cables for tweeter/woofer and bi-amping mode for best possible audio quality. If it's worth the effort? That's very subjective and difficult to tell: the overall audio quality depends on the source material, your playback device, the amp, the cables, the speakers - and last but not least your ears and your personal taste. So there will be no quick and easy answer to this question :-)

    • @OnkyoEU
      @OnkyoEU  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Ryan, for bi-amping, please be use to use one amp per speaker only, e.g. not using different amps for high/low speakers. This might damage your speakers - or will not create a decent sound experience, at least.
      You will need a receiver that supports bi-amping. This receiver will offer 4 speaker terminals for each bi-amped channel, e.g.
      Front left:
      +/- terminals for tweeter
      +/- terminals for woofer
      Front right:
      +/- terminals for tweeter
      +/- terminals for woofer
      Please checkout the following new video on bi-amping using a TX-RZ830 that a colleague created:
      th-cam.com/video/gOtzlUPf7jU/w-d-xo.html

    • @OnkyoEU
      @OnkyoEU  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, no need to worry about the brand of the speaker manufacturer - each speaker model itself will make a difference. If you like the sound also depends very much on your personal impression and prefence. You might like the sound of some speakers while some one else prefers some completely different sound. In addition, the actual sound also depends on your listening environment (room size, furniture, etc.) and the position of the speakers in the room. You may want to try different positions, comparing the results...

    So the term "amplifier" does not refer to the Receiver! The Amplifiers basically are the different channels within the same Receiver. is there any sound quality difference between bi-wiring or bi-amping? I think it's better to bi-amp since you don't have to connect 2 cables to the same binding post on the back of the Receiver.

    • @OnkyoEU
      @OnkyoEU  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Victor, absolutely correct. It refers to the amps within the receiver. Using separate amps for tweeter/woofer (bi-amping) with separate cables for tweeter/woofer (bi-wiring) is considered to offer the best possible audio quality. Some people say you won't hear a difference - others say it's worth the effort. It will be up to you to decide...

      @Vylkeer 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      OnkyoEU Thanks a lot! To me, bi-amping seems the best solution ever and I really noticed the difference compared to when the speakers weren't bi-amped, so I've chosen to bi-amp them to achieve the best sound quality possible from my TXNR636! :)

      Ryan Fuller A lot has changed since I originally wrote my comment and have expanded my knowledge ever since. I've found out an awesome dedicated Amp, the Cinenova Grande 7 which is rated at 330W/Ch @ 8 Ohms (RMS - All Channels Driven) x 7.1 channels and it's awesome. The perfect choice for someone like me who wants to enjoy pure powerful surround sound for movies, TV Shows and Games and still be able to listen to great 2.1 Stereo Music or even Surround Music which isn't that bad. It
      s a bit expensive but it's a quality amplifier and it's like having 7 mono separate amplifiers so the power stream is stable and reliable and they have great capacitors to guarantee all of this. And finally it's rated with all the channels driven, so each and every channel is getting the rated power and it's RMS so it's continuous not peak power. My current Onkyo TXNR-838 is rated 130W/Ch (2-channels driven) so the other ones are probably getting like 70 - 80 W and this power ratings aren't even RMS. So yeah, my dream is to buy this beast and use it with a 5.2 setup and having the two main fronts Bi-Amped (Highs / Lows) and every other channel Bi-Wired, just like I have it set up now.

    Hi, does onkyo recommend doing Bi-wire?

    • @OnkyoEU
      @OnkyoEU  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jasdev Singh Hi, we do not specifically recommend bi-wiring alone - while bi-amping can definitely increase your listening experience, also depending on the speakers and cabling used (e.g. the thinkness/diameter should match the requirements of your speakers...).

      +OnkyoEU thanks Onkyo EU, I have Onkyo receiver and I have done that bi-amp for my front two speakers however as mentioned below (someone posted that) Bi-wire from same receiver can degrade the amp performance. Since I have 5.1 with bi amp, all my connections are running out. I want to setup 5.1.2 and thinking to do biwire front speakers to save two channels for height or back(atmos). what wire or cable do you recommend for biwire for onkyo tx-nr636. Front speakers are q acoustics 3050 floor standing. Thanks.

    • @OnkyoEU
      @OnkyoEU  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Jasdev Singh In general, we would recommend using bi-amping to get the best results...

    why would you use another set of cables to do the same wiring you had on your speakers? I don't understand purpose of this. you are using the same 2 channels on the same 2 speakers and in both situations tweeter and woofer are in parallel. makes no sense to me.

    Are there real sonic benefits to biamping?

    • @OnkyoEU
      @OnkyoEU  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there can be - but also depending on your speakers, cables, speaker positioning and the listening environment in general. The benefits can be very small but noticable - if you have a chance to notice them (e.g. not with the cheapest speakers, not if you live close to a busy street, not if you put speakers in a room with lots of reflections, etc. etc.). So there is no "Yes, sure!" or "No, not at all!" answer here... :-)

      @@OnkyoEU I'm not sure whether I should biamp my fronts, get an external amp of simply upgrade my center in hopes of achieving a better soundstage. A real dilemma I tell you ;) what do you think sir?

    • @OnkyoEU
      @OnkyoEU  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bzorro1 A dedicated center can be very beneficial when watching movies (improving reproduction of dialogs). Playing with your speaker placement will most likely have more impact and more benefits than biamping...

    This receiver is NOT set up to correctly enjoy true Bi-Wire sound on a receiver that has the right way to set it up it will have dual amplifiers and a crossover to keep bass from reaching the tweeters and only bass note (which requires MORE amplification than the tweeters or midrange speakers) and it will sound amazing and this set up will sound good too it just doesn't give it the true benefits of a real bi wired receiver.

    Bi wiring makes no differance in sound i bet youd never be able to tell in bi amping either

    • @JamieRyan92
      @JamieRyan92 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      You would a bit with this setup on the video, separate amplifiers within the receiver will help combat distortion at higher volumes but with the amplifiers using the same transformer you risk getting crosstalk between the channels. True Bi-Amp/Bi-Wiring involves using two or more (Tri-Amping) separate amplifiers with there own transformers.
      You would also need an Active Crossover between your amplifiers and pre-amplifier to split the high, mid/low frequencies to each amplifier (Bi amping means you send high frequency signals to one amplifier, and low frequency to the other).
      You would then need to remove the passive crossovers from your speakers as this will just halt the true Bi-Amplification, and connect the drivers directly to the amplifier outputs.

    CABLES??? You call those dental floss speaker "cables"????
    Those are the kind of speaker "wires" you buy at a 1 DOLLAR STORE!!!!
    Can't Onkyo afford DECENT speaker cables???? Or are you suggesting people buy crap like the ones used in this demo????
    Yikes!!!
