If you are about to set up a surround sound system , are looking into setting up a game system to your surround or you want to know if the ONKYO receiver is any good you are in the right place.
Alright so I've had this reviewer for a few years and its been moved around and used extensively so this review is fair and tested.
First of all the surround sound system 5 speakers and a subwoofer.
The back surround sound speakers should be just above ear height and and at the far back 2 corners of the room. The Centre speaker I installed below my tv onto my wall mount. the front right and left speakers are important and depending on your setup they are adaptable. They can be sit-in on the floor, be attached to the wall or on stands. Thanks for the review . I’m unretiring my dads ONKYO TX DS595 from 97 and using it for my vinyl collection. Even though it’s an older system the setup is practically the same. Love the video .

ive had my ONKYO receiver for 5 months and mainly used it for Bluetooth and never a problem and it was working great!!! Then I moved and hooked and hung speakers back up. Then I selected Bluetooth on Receiver turned on Bluetooth and it paired and connected but no sound. speaker wires correctly connected but no sound. checked the headphone jack and couldnt see any debree. any suggestions?
That was the least in-depth set up I could imagine.
Solid video. I have a similar 7.1 onkyo receiver. I’m trying to connect a 2.0 or 2.1 speaker set up, but am I losing out on sound effects if the receiver is sending stuff to the center and rears that are non existent? Also I’ve used an RCA to 3.5mm to connect it to my tv.

Hi, great review. I have the same system almost 14 years gone. Sounds and works great. Recently my remote decided to stop working, got a spare on same as rc-762m but apparently there is paring required for the new remote. Could you also enlighten about that as well. Thanks man
Thanks for the review! I have a Onkyo HT-R398. I’ve got everything set up but when I try to change the soundstage, it says Not Available. It used to be able to change on the remote, now it does not. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
So if I plug my PS4 into the receiver on the game input then out into my projector the audio will will just come through my speakers?

My a speaker says it us off. I have front and back. Both front and back were working. I cut off the a speaker somehow which was the surrounding sound

Any tips on how to setup the mic on this onkyo model? I've tried using mic reducer to connect my microphone into the onkyo directly, but when i start the calibration, it says "error".

What happens if speaker wire isn’t in pos or neg or reverse? Will you get little sound or nothing?

I have the same home theater amplifier. Unfortunately it's an old amp and HDMI only carries 1080p, so no 4K content when the picture + sound goes through the amp. So I had to buy a separate Audio Extractor Splitter.
Well, don’t run the video to the television through the stereo. 2:11 only run the audio through the stereo

I have an Onkyo ht-r380. I can't get it to work! Hooked to an insignia tv, red and white out to sat/cbl in. No sound, I hear the receiver click when I change the AB setting. Set on all channel stereo HELP, game to watch this weekend!

Hey, I have a new Smart TV, and an onkyo TX-SR606. Already have the speakers and aux port hooked up and working. Can’t seem to get sound from the TV to the speakers though? Used the out hdmi on the receiver and put it on the rca hdmi on the tv. Where do I go from here? Do I need to get a high speed hdmi for it it work?

I've got a ONKYO TX-SR707 that I've moved from my basement to my living room along with all of the speakers and TV. I've reconnected everything, but my subwoofer (Definitive Supercube III) now has no sound. The subwoofer has power going in. I'm using the LFE and seems pretty straight forward, but I'm stumped.
Check the receiver settings on the menu. It may have reset when you I plugged it to move.

I've got the same amp as you had it a while now it's got such a greeat sound one thing you should of mentioned in your video is anything. With surround sound u have plugged in must be set to bitstream to get 5.1 audio PS4 should be set to Dolby audio in the PS4 menu so the amp can do the work Nintendo switch needs or go on auto in the Audio options this will give multichannel 5.1 pcm blu ray players need to be set to bitstream on the players menu to get 5.1 just thought this may help anyone as it be the same with any surround amp
Also what needs to be mentioned is there 1080p receivers so won't accept ps5 or Xbox series consoles because of the 4k resolution these need a 4k receiver I have a new onnko in my front room now that I had to get because I brought the ps5 and wanted surround sound but the amp on the vid is now in my bedroom with a Blu-ray player a technics cd and a teac dab tuner nice video either way hope this helps anyone that needs ro know

I have a similar receiver and I have it hookup similar but with a fire stick and only three speakers front R&L plus Center channel however I have to have it a level 50+ to hear anything and the quality sucks. Any thoughts on how to correct this

On the back of the AV I have no idea where to plug anything to the back of this. I twiddled around and put it in the CD in the DVD in everything I could and on the front put in the corresponding input and nothing works.
I just want to get that SOUNDBAR connected. Its a old one she said that around when they first came out but those are the only terminals at the back

I can't believe that Atleàst the host of this channel did not answer this man! For this reason I'm not subscribing. I believe that if ur having a channel and content of how to hook up ur speakers , especially making $$ of of us your subs then when we have questions then they should Atleàst tried to be answered by the host. But here this man watched your video liked subbed and probably shared your video or videos, had a problem and took the time to give you all this info. That he should have at the very least been recognize of having and you trying to help.. poor showmanship. That's all I have to say about that

I have an R695 and my speakers have two positive wires and two negative wires on them. Looks like a set at the top and a set at the bottom so I stick both positive wires for the right speaker in one hole in the center? Also in trying to hook this up to my pc. Do I just plug it into any hdmi port on my pc?
Yes or you can splice a bit of wire and connect both posts I’ve for one speaker together and do the same with the negative. Yes with the hdmi from computer to stereo that should work.
I have an Onkyo HT-S5300 7.1 system. Right now, one HDMI cable goes from the back of my DISH Hopper to my TV, an HDMI cable goes from a DVD player to my TV, and I have an HDMI Chromecast plugged into my TV. What HDMI port on the Onkyo Receiver does the DISH Hopper HDMI cable go into? Does the DVD player HDMI cable plug into the DVD HDMI port on the Onkyo Receiver? Does the Chromecast plug into one of the HDMI ports on the Onkyo Receiver? Does anything at all plug into any HDMI port on the TV? Hey, I'm planning tio get a new Onkyo AVR and I have very basic question. Is there some way to save presets of speaker levels? I know that you can modify the volume of each individual speaker with "Adjusting Speaker Levels", but not sure if you can save this to some AVR internal memory and call it when needed (for example, PRESET1 = "L/R 100%, Surround 75%", PRESET2 = "L/R 30%, surround = 20%"). Cheers!
I’m not 100% sure but your receiver might have a built in memory battery to remember those levels. If not you’ll have to re setup the receiver.

Using Firestick plugged in receiver HDMI port. Plugged other HDMI cable from receiver HDMI out to TV HDMI Arc. Naturally, it wouldn't work. No sound. Had to use optical connection to get sound. Not sure if I would get better sound with HDMI but I am getting pretty good sound using optical.
Optical is supposed to be actually better sound. 👍

🤔 have you tried resetting the receiver and the subwoofer? Did the receiver come with a troubleshooting manual? It should be fairly easy to setup. You may have to can only o support.

Hey! i have a HT-R380 and only particular ports seem to work... The Front Speakers A and Front Speakers B work... I use an HDMI to HDMI and connected it to the out port using eArc... But Center Speaker, Surround Speakers and Subwoofer ports don't seem to be working... I tried to insert them into ports designated for Front Speakers Left and Right and they were working fine... My speakers are okay, but the sound comes from only a few ports... I have buttons on my receiver under the Speakers section as A and B, if I switch them both on four speakers work because these 4 ports are working but I want all of them to work... What do I do?
Trying to connect TX-NR656 to my speakers & want sound to come out of TV when using CBL/SAT.
So I seem to be only able to get audio from either the 2 front speakers, or, the back 2 + center and Sub.
I have a 3.5mm audio jack running from the back of my Yaber V6 projector (I should point out the HDMI ports do not work on my Onkyo) and ive tried running it into the game port, CBL/SAT and TV/CD. When I toggle the the A B speakers it jumps between the front speakers or the back, but never all of them. Any thoughts?

Hello, I have a home theater, trying to set up my onkyo to it, however the person who set up the first time did not lable any of the wires, I have 3 set of red, white, green, and black wires. I am at a loss on how to set it up or fix it
Each speaker has a + positive and a - negative wire. The receiver has the same for each speaker. Use the speaker wire to help align the positive and negative. For instance. Use the red for positive in the speaker and plug that red into the positive on the receiver for the speaker you are trying to set up. ( speaker placement should be labelled on the receiver. ) use the white wire for the negative. The colours on the wire are just there to help you identify which one is positive and negative. Let me know if this helps.
well as it just so happenes we have an Onkyo 494 and of course I had to connect my PS4, PS3, and 360 into it. the alternative would be to buy an HDMI switch box and connect that up to the TV. of course in the future I'll connect up a Betamax player, Laserdisc, and D Theater/ D VHS (one player won't play D VHS tapes and the other won't play D theater tapes quite cumbersome)
I have an Onkyo system from the 80's. I am missing the large piece on bottom . Is that the amp or receiver? Which powers unit? I have phono, cassette, receiver, (.missing 5 disc cd changer) and large box like thing that went on bottom . I believe it was amplifier. It had two handles on the front and a headphone jack. Does anyone know what I can replace piece with in todays market?

You'd have to run an hdmi to the stereo or run a audio cable to the stereo.

Bought the new Toshiba Amazon fire (built in). I have Onkyo AV receiver HT-R393. Has HDMI ports but none are marked arc. Can't get the sound to come from tv. Any suggestions?

Ok! Got the digital audio output and sound through the Onkyo but only front two (out of 5) speakers work. When I switch to fm radio, they all work.
