Hello, very good video... I have a question, I think you are the right person. I have an ONKYO HT-R695, and a kitten decided to urinate on it while I was sleeping... 😢, despite that, almost everything works, except for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth. At first, after cleaning it, it turned off suddenly, and turned on again, and the AVR screen showed Amp Diag Mode, but when finished it worked normally or "normally", however after a week it stopped working. Dolby Atmos and DTS:X work, all other formats work, Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, and DTS. A friend who repairs electronic devices recommended that I clean with isopropyl alcohol, and everything worked, but when I turned it on the next day, only Atmos and DTS:X stopped working again, the formats work fine. And now even those work after turning off the AVR for a few minutes, but only for 5 or 10 minutes...Do you know what could be causing this problem? I forgot to mention that when they work, the Dolby Digital logo turns red on the receiver, and when you stop listening, it just says PCM Surr. Greetings.
THANK YOU. My SR-707 started needing a warm-up and power-cycle to get the speaker channels online. Only 5 minutes at first, but as time went on that grew to 10, then 20, then stopped working altogether. Invested in a flux pen and IR thermometer, blasted the DSP up to 200°C with a heat gun, left it alone to cool down below 40°C, plugged it back in and voila, good as new!
can u please guide me on how u used a flux pen, because u wouldnt have been able to drip the flux around the chip as done by "Upscaled" really nervous about doing this myself :p
Funnily enough it started acting up again last week so I'll need to repeat the procedure, but if it doesn't work then I just have to buy a new amp, which is what I would have to do anyway.
THIS IS GREAT! I'm SO happy, my beloved ONKYO TX-NR 5009 is WORKING AGAIN after Using a HOT AIR BLOWER on the DTS CHIP. I've heat it up to 180 Degrees CELSIUS, measured it with a gun temperature meter. Now I have ordered heatsincs and I hope this BEAST will run for a very long time. THANK YOU for the VIDEO!
@@Upscaled_HT Thanks mate, I am truly grateful and incredibly happy that the ONKYO is up and running again. It is a BEAST of a receiver and absolutely no need to buy another expensive amplifier or receiver. Surely such an expensive receiver should last up to 30 years? The amplifier part never actually breaks, but the electronics are the problem. Thanks again!
@@EXTRA300s I have the same receiver with the same problem. Is yours still working? Can't wait to give this a try. It's an awesome sounding receiver. Thanks for the temperature suggestion.
@@stevet7487 mine is working..JUST PERFECT! and I'm so happy with this solution. I do have a cooling heatsinc on the DTS and the other flat cip, ordered the heatsincs online in China for 8 USD include chipping. I wish you luck mate 😃👍
Just did this to my 11 year old Onkyo tx NR 809. I used rosin flux for electronics as others mention in the comments. I also used a large heat gun took a few tries finally got it hot enough where smoke was coming out a little . It’s been working for a day. Time will tell but I’m glad to have my surround sound back.
I applied solder with the heat gun for the second time. It’s working again. The circuit board it a little discolored from the heat. Didn’t use a thermometer just got it hot enough to start smoking. It’s been working after the second fix for about a week. Not sure if it’s a good idea to put a piece of aluminum on top of the chip to act as a heat shrink?
I think its best to solder it with no clean flux and the apply a big copper heatsink and a fan which blows from top on the heatsink.... will try it in the next two weeks
Thank you very much! I'll try that on one I just bought at an "for parts" price. I'm aware that there is no guarantee that it will work on all "Onkyo malady" victims, but your brief, to-the-point, and easy-to-follow instructions give me a good shot at succeeding.
I have the same one and I had a heat gun on it for a little while and got it hot. But still not working do I need the flux for it to work? Is that what you did?
Thank you so much! this saved my not only money, but headache from continuous troubleshooting. I performed this fix, and it worked like a charm! thanks again!
This also worked on my TX-NR818! I had to try at least 3 times, heating up longer every time and it finally solved the issue. I have placed a home made heat dispencer with heat transfer tape. Crossing fingers this will work in the long run!
Just fixed my 808 in 5 minutes. The temp got up to 450 unintentionally, but worked first time. I had the heat gun on it for 30-40 seconds. Before trying this, I placed a 60 W lightbulb on the chip, and the speaker array came on. That confirmed to me that the chip was the problem. I found this method in a different video. Thanks for your post! I was getting ready to scrap the unit.
Cam you tell me how huch time you placed a 60 watt bullb above it? Thanks in advance.. I have a tx sr 506 with no sound.. But on display there is showing dsp logo.. Does this model have a speaker array indication on display? Pls help me in info.
I'm having a TX-NR414 with this "no sound" problem for many months. Haven't tried your solution for now (but will try) but I "fixed" it with another solution which is working as long as the problem exist: Power up receiver, TV and a video source, play a video (movies are a good source) and let that playing for at least 15 minutes to "heat up" the receiver. Stop the video, power off the receiver for >=10s and turn it on again (sometimes my receiver turns on by itself after a sec). Wait until (the relays?) are doing their "click" (sometimes "click---click") and voila, sound is available when starting a video again.
I have the TX-NR414, same problem. No sound! I got some flux & heat gun & gave it a go. Let it cool then tested it & it didn’t work. Tried again with more flux & heated for longer & got a bit of smoke coming out under the motherboard & let it cool, tried again & totally worked. Super stoked, thanks for your help. Repair cost $11.95 for flux.
So after 10 years of service my Onkyo TX-NR809 finally experienced the dreaded DTS chip solder symptom. Back in the day when I bought the receiver I heard about the issue and so I installed two 140mm fans on top of the receiver in a pull configuration from day one. After so many years I thought I escaped it by adding the fans but it finally gave in. The speaker icons stopped coming up and I would have to restart the unit in order to get sound. In a matter of a month it went from a restart to few minutes to about 15 mins in order to get sound. Performed this fix with flux with a paint heat gun right under 400 degrees Fahrenheit and also went overboard and added some passive aluminum coolers to every chip on the board. Turned fans around and now running in a push config. It's working like new but only time will tell (Fingers crossed). I lover this receiver to death and only wish Onkyo would have cooled the chips properly. Will keep you guys updated. Upscaled thank you so much for sharing this video it really helped...
@@Fancy_PotHead Funny you asked cause about a week ago it started with the no sound issue after 3 months. It needed to warm up for about 20-30 mins to get sound back. Got tired of waiting and bought a Tx-Nr 6050 for $329 open box on Ebay. Have to admit I really like it considering it's bang for the buck compared to likes of Denon and Marantz. Sucks it has no pre-outs but used a Russound ADP-1.2 line lever adapter to hook up the Crown XLI 1500 for the front towers and is working really well. Really crossing my fingers this one lasts as long or longer than then the previous one but Onkyo did add a nice cooler and fan to the chip and HDMI board. Only time will tell once again...
@@An9eL_C damn, so it only lasted about 3 months...? I'm still gonna give it a try. Then i'll go back to a Yamaha, no way i'm buying another Onkyo 😅 This is the 2nd receiver to have the same issue. I had a Yamaha for 15 years, gave it away 10 years ago to my cousin. It's still working.

Thank you for this vid! I have a TX-NR 1007... it started switching in and out of audio a couple weeks ago... then died. I did a hard reset, and it actually brought it back (for a couple days).. but I think it was only due to it having cooled off... I followed your vid, and it's running like a champ now! I think I need to open my components now and then to clean them.. it was covered in dust inside. Anyways, I got it all cleaned up, even scrubbed the worst of it with a toothbrush & Iso 80%... but only when compressed air wasn't doing enough. I also installed the raspberry Pi heat sink you suggested, just in case. CHEERS!
@@Upscaled_HT Hoping to pick your brain... as stated, I've got a TX-NR1007... fixed my not getting the speakers to initialize using your resolder DTS/DSP chip.... But I'm getting an odd issue that has the potential to be bad as well. I turn on the unit to do some online gaming, sometimes it works fine... and sometimes not.... the speakers array initializes and I see them on the led readout.... but I I don't hear anything from the speakers... when it's going to 'work'.. I'll hear a little tiny click or pop from the speakers. So, I can let it sit for a few minutes.. zippo.. no sound. I turn it off... turn it back on... and NOW the speaker array isn't lighting up in the display (and still no sound... durp) Buuut... if I leave it on for a few minutes.. (5-10 is good), THEN turn it off, then back on... the array comes on, I hear the tiny *pop* from my speakers, and everything works fine... Any ideas what this is?... using it in 9.2 and love it.. would hate for it to die on me as the build quality (with the exception of the 3030) REALLY went downhill after this unit
@@jamesrobinson2086 If you have nothing to lose, you can try the same procedure for more time and higher temperature. Other than that, you would probably have to take in for service but it would probably cost more to fix than what the receiver is worth, although it would be cheaper than a new 9 channel receiver. I haven't any 9 channel receivers for less than $900 these days.
Thanks for the video. I’m gonna throw my 2 cents in because, reasons… The heat needs to be hot enough the solder begins to glimmer/shimmer at that point the solder is reflowing and you can kill the heat. Very important: do not touch, bump, or disturb the chip while the solder is reflowing/liquid. It’s nearly impossible to realign the chip pins by hand exactly to the correct pads on the board. I learned this the hard way…. I did this repair to my 609 about 2 years ago and has worked like a champ since. Until last week. Will try reflowing again. Cheers
@@vortexor1 no, unfortunately she was on borrowed time. However with her demise I’ve repurposed her transformer for a small spot welder I’m getting ready to build. Cheers
@@TristanVash38 sorry to disappoint, I ended up buying one instead, the build videos on the internet, specifically TH-cam seem very sketchy to me & I try not to exceed my voltage comfort zone of 12v unless i’m very confident or very desperate…
I have a TX-SR604 that I use in a stereo 2.1 set up and she's working fine. You could practically cook waffles on the vents after a while of use, but its hanging in there. Nice thx unit. Great idea with the heat sink. I've seen people add active cooling fans to some of their rigs.
Make sure you use flux designed for electronic circuit boards and not the type for plumbing. The correct type has rosin in it and will gently remove oxidation on the metal pins. Plumbing flux has acid in it and will corrode the circuit board connectors and will eventually cause failure.
Hi. I have a pioneer vsx 832, it has a similar behavior, should I try the same... Or do pioneers not have that problem? If I had to buy a heat gun, is it better to buy something with a minimum of 350ºC or a smaller one with a maximum of 200º? Thanks.

@@Upscaled_HT Understood, thank you. I elected to replace as I am not very handy and picture making it worse or having a good amount of work to unhook, fix and hook it back up to only have it last a few days. I am glad this is working for others more capable though.
Hello Sir, I have the same problem, technician say that this chip (BAHDM-0157-IF) has malfunctioned. Does your process of repair will do on my unit. (TX NR-3008)?
I have an Onkyo TX-NR818 with no sound. Found a Flux Paste at a local Home Improvement store and got a heat gun and laser thermometer. My problem is trying to find a Heat Sink for the DTS Chip. Stereo Repair places and even computer parts stores have no idea what I am talking about when I mention a Heat Sink for a DTS Chip. Where would I find one?
You may not even need a heat sink. It’s a nice to have but not a must have. Try the process and see if it works. Then you worry about finding a heat sink. You find them on Amazon amzn.to/3Pe5ZO9
Called to a larger computer parts store. They did not know what I was mentioning about Heatsink for DTS Chip. They suggested that I contact you which I did. Watched your video again especially when it comes to the Heatsink. Noticed that you mentioned Raspberry Pi Heatsink. Googled Raspberry Pi Heatsink and found many for sale online. Ordered one online.
I have a 509 and 609 with no sound, I tried with heat gun but no luck, I didn’t go higher than 280 maybe and didn’t work. Maybe I should try up to 400F ? I was afraid not to burn up the chip
hi, I tried everything to reproduce Dolby 5.1 on my Onkyo TXSR494, nothing to do, I can reproduce DTS and DTS-HDMA perfectly but I can't hear anything in Dolby 5.1 or Dolby Atmos. Could it be this chip's fault or should both formats have problems? thanks good work
The problem with all newer electronics, newer meaning post 2002. There is a corporate mandate ordered by the Clinton Administration to stop using lead based solder. Companies of course had to use a different type of solder and over time it looses it's connection to the components. This was the issue with all PS3 and 4's and Xbox platforms. This is the reason why you got the red ring of death on the console. One can reheat the connection to get it to work again, but it will only last for a short time. The only way to fix the issue at the component level is to remove the solder and re apply lead based solder which some companies are using again to combat expensive recalls.
Hi I have a TX-SR313 it has a really long delay when initially powered on. It can take up to 15-20 min before the sound kicks in. I have tried the reset and turning it on and off a few times while waiting for the sound to come on. Once it is on there are no problems works great. Could the dsp chip be the problem is this a sign of it failing ?
Just double checking but you mean 15-20 minutes not seconds right? If it’s minutes, there definitely a problem. It’s hard to say if that’s it. I did this to mine cause I had nothing to lose. The repair cost would have been way over the value of the unit so I just went for it. You could try heating a little and see if lowers the time to click on.
Did you fix the problem???? Did all the relays click as usual? I had the same problem and the time it took to start was getting longer and longer. It got to almost a couple of hours!! Then, one day I was watching Netflix, listening to dolby's full glory and suddenly....no more sound. Screen shows all the things it always showed. Relays are fine and switching properly at the start. It just wont sound anymore. If anyone can help us it would be amazing.
mixed result so far, had to go to 230c to get it to take, still evaluating, had a couple instances on first try with garbed output, second might have worked (higher temp), added heat sinks
@@Upscaled_HT Yeah but yours has 2 of them. The one with little legs coming out from it (the one that mine also has), and the one that you heated up (which I cannot find). Could it be on a different board?
I trew my Onkyo in the waste bin. Back to old skool fully analog 70's amplifier that, won't die, and if they, you won't fix with a hairdryer, but with knowledge of real amplifiers.
Hello there..I'm after small advice. I have bought onkyo receiver TX-NR414 second hand yesterday. Connected everything and it worked perfectly. Today, the video is coming through but no sound through hdmi from laptop. The net radio is working well via ethernet cable. Do you think the dts is the issue. I tried to troubleshoot everything but still nothing 😢😢
I just bought some flux and heatsinks and will be doing this on my unit. The thing is I don't have a heat gun and will be using an incandescent light bulb to heat up the chip instead (I've been heating the chip with this bulb to fix the unit but the issue keeps coming back if I leave it on for too long, this is why I'll be applying the flux and heatsink). How long do you think I should leave the bulb heat the chip after applying the flux around the chip? I've no expertise in soldering.
UPDATE : I did it once using the incandescent bulb (the flat spotlight type) letting the chip and flux heat up for about 8 mins. Unfortunately that only fixed it temporarily. I cleaned the chip and surroundings and re-applied the flux around the chip and then let the lamp sit there for about 30 mins instead. I let it cool and even applied a bit of air to disperse the flux that was on top of the chip and when I saw the flux had cooled down, applied some Artic Silver Ceramique 2 thermal paste on top and applied an aluminum heatsink like the one on this video. So far it's been running great for 2 days in a row, I'll update if it stops working.
@Josla have you fixed the "no sound" problem with your 5009? I got the same issue with my 3009: heating the dts chip with an air dryer for 2 minutes worked about 5 minutes - after turning on the 2nd relays click displayed the Speaker alignment again and sound played a while but after approx. 5 minutes sound has gone... What would you think? Try it with increasing the temperature und measure it again?
He left a comment he got it working again heating it to about 360 ° f. All the repairs on these run the temp. up that high. Make sure you put a heat sink on it and an exhaust fan on top. www.amazon.com/dp/B07L9M8T8F/ref=cm_sw_r_u_apa_glt_fabc_ECNF13M0Q5YJQ3TDXXAH

It also worked with my HT-R990. Onkyo HT-R990 hatte keinen Ton mehr und war nicht mehr über das Netzwerk erreichbar. Die Anzeige der Lautsprecher blieb leer.
Did exactly this. Though my flux did not include a fine tip. Ended up spreading it with a toothpick. Started to heat it up. Saw a bit of smoke from the underside. Can only assume it was heating too much. Only went for about 30 seconds. Its working as of NOW. Will see tomorrow...and the next day, and the next. Thanks for this video.

@@APPLEVALLEYTIM the chips are rare now, if you did manage to get a brand new one though, you would need to program it to your particular board if you look away from the chip up to the left there is a empty header which takes a ribbon cable, onkyo has a tool that connects to that for factory programming. The actual chips dosent really go bad. Best and permanent fix would to remove the chip and re ball it but that is a royal pain in the ar$e. Good luck!

Hello everyone, I got myself an TX-NR515. It's second hand and it's been tempered with on the power supply board. Does anyone know why this is done? They took out the glass fuse, soldered a new component between the new power cable and board, and it looks like it has an IC replaced. I'm curious to why this modification is put there. I also got something strange going on, on the HDMI board. Fan is not connected and some electrical component is soldered from contact pin to the plug next to it. Also thanks for the tip, I also got no sound and I'm trying to fix it with a heat gun aswell. Found some loose solerings on the pre amp board, some transistors, so I'm gonna reflow that aswell.
@@Upscaled_HT nope, there was probably more wrong with it. It lost more features and I couldn't even connect it to the internet via cable. It actually didn't do anything accept then turning on and passthrough the screen. Too bad..
Or you could just go ahead and throw it in the trash if you want to save yourself the headache. I did try using a heat station three times and then I put it where it belongs, in the trash.I bought it for 45$ at a goodwill thinking I got a great deal because I plugged it in and everything worked great until I got home and then found out that it had no Sound. apparently, this was a common issue with many of the receivers onkyo manufacture during this time due to a DTS chip overheating .kinda sad that onkyo let quality slip away and know I wouldn’t trust buying any of their products . I did check the hours on the display and it registered it just a little over 8,000 hours. They could’ve had a recall on all of them and serviced them but like so many other manufacturers, they hide behind a limited warranty and stick the consumer faulty products.
I have Onkyo TX-NR616 and the sound is gone, so this might be the problem. Im a bit confused though, you are fixing it by heating it up? And then you add a heatsink so it make sure it doesnt overheat in the future?! So is the main problem that the chip has overheated, and the fix is to heat it up?
The problem mostly lies with heating and cooling cycles degrading the solder under the chip over time. This process reheats the solder to melting point again to make a solid connection.
Still working. Sometimes it takes a while to click on so I'm thinking it may fail again. For some folks, it works great. Have you tried increasing the amount heat and time you heat the chip up?
still working? Mine died yesterday.. I did the same process as you. but it lasted for about 2-3 hours... I will try with higher temperature... Mine didn't smoke. ;-)
Mine is still working. The way I saw it was I had nothing to lose and the receiver was too old to pay for a repair. The fact that it worked for a while is encouraging. I saw a video where someone went much hotter than I did so that may do it. Best of luck.

BGA chips suck, they use BGA in TVs and they are the number one failure. What I have found is it you gently prod the chip you can feel it move when the solder melts.

These Onkyo A/V units are basic fire hazards. If they run so hot as to desolder connections they exceed 370 degrees f. Unplug the unit and recycle it. Buy a different brand. Mine delaminated. I didn’t trust it at that point. Give Onkyo a lesson in finance, buy a Yamaha or something else.

can u please guide me on how u used a flux pen, because u wouldnt have been able to drip the flux around the chip as done by "Upscaled" really nervous about doing this myself :p
Funnily enough it started acting up again last week so I'll need to repeat the procedure, but if it doesn't work then I just have to buy a new amp, which is what I would have to do anyway.
@@Upscaled_HT Just repeated the procedure successfully again, loving this trick 😁
I’m glad you were able to fix it. Mine is still working. If it fails, I’ll just do the same procedure again.

I hope it keeps working. If it stops working, you can repeat the process and try going a little hotter for longer.
Is it still working?
It stopped working after a month or so. I will try it again with a heat gun.
I just did it on the TX-NR609 and it worked! I held the heat gun above it about 3/4 of an inch for 30 seconds on about 400-500 degree setting.
Glad it worked for you!
I have the same one and I had a heat gun on it for a little while and got it hot. But still not working do I need the flux for it to work? Is that what you did?
Thank you so much! this saved my not only money, but headache from continuous troubleshooting.
I performed this fix, and it worked like a charm! thanks again!
Awesome!
This also worked on my TX-NR818! I had to try at least 3 times, heating up longer every time and it finally solved the issue. I have placed a home made heat dispencer with heat transfer tape. Crossing fingers this will work in the long run!
Any update so far?

Sweet! Glad it worked out.
Is your receiver still working?

So, I can let it sit for a few minutes.. zippo.. no sound. I turn it off... turn it back on... and NOW the speaker array isn't lighting up in the display (and still no sound... durp)
Buuut... if I leave it on for a few minutes.. (5-10 is good), THEN turn it off, then back on... the array comes on, I hear the tiny *pop* from my speakers, and everything works fine...

It's one of those defects that should have been recalled!
The fact Onkyo did nothing to help us repair this all-too-common problem is why I'll never buy anything made by Onkyo again.
Cheers
Very good advice. Most of the time this is a long term but temporary fix. 2 years is really awesome!

Make sure you use flux designed for electronic circuit boards and not the type for plumbing. The correct type has rosin in it and will gently remove oxidation on the metal pins. Plumbing flux has acid in it and will corrode the circuit board connectors and will eventually cause failure.

It may work but it’s harder to concentrate the heat in particular location on the board. Some folk even use a light bulb to do it.
How long did this fix the issue? Mine is starting to exhibit this behavior
I’ve heard days, weeks, months and years. It depends on how bad the problem is and how good the repair is done.

You find them on Amazon amzn.to/3Pe5ZO9

hi, I tried everything to reproduce Dolby 5.1 on my Onkyo TXSR494, nothing to do, I can reproduce DTS and DTS-HDMA perfectly but I can't hear anything in Dolby 5.1 or Dolby Atmos. Could it be this chip's fault or should both formats have problems? thanks good work
How can you tell which chip is the DTS chip? I have an integra DTD 9.9 with the same problem, but my hdmi board looks different.
And a whole bunch of laptop gpu's (they ran hot and exposed the fault in as little as 1-2 years!)

Well, I'm about to do it now. Crossing fingers and hoping everything goes well.....

@@Upscaled_HT i suppose those A and B signs are the same as the matrix but in older/cheaper models like mine. I have an ht-r548
Hi, I managed to stick the chip but I still don't have sound
You can try going hotter. If that fails, the issue probably lies somewhere else in the receiver.
Hello everyone,
I got myself an TX-NR515.
I hope you’re able to fix it.
@@Upscaled_HT nope, there was probably more wrong with it. It lost more features and I couldn't even connect it to the internet via cable. It actually didn't do anything accept then turning on and passthrough the screen. Too bad..
@@markdol5141 I recently had another receiver die on me that I gave away as parts only. It would have cost more to fix than what it was worth.
dimension of heat sink?
I believe 14mm heat sink should work.
I have same problem ONKYO TX-NR906. No sound.
Thanks for big help...great job!!!
Thank you!
Or you could just go ahead and throw it in the trash if you want to save yourself the headache. I did try using a heat station three times and then I put it where it belongs, in the trash.I bought it for 45$ at a goodwill thinking I got a great deal because I plugged it in and everything worked great until I got home and then found out that it had no
Sound. apparently, this was a common issue with many of the receivers onkyo manufacture during this time due to a DTS chip overheating .kinda sad that onkyo let quality slip away and know I wouldn’t trust buying any of their products . I did check the hours on the display and it registered it just a little over 8,000 hours. They could’ve had a recall on all of them and serviced them but like so many other manufacturers, they hide behind a limited warranty and stick the consumer faulty products.
I might have taken a shot at the fix had I found one for $45. Sorry it didn’t work out.
@@Upscaled_HT right, and the Flux is helping with that i guess?
@@Upscaled_HT also, how did you attach the heat zink? WIth glue or what?
@@carnalito80 The flux helps with the soldering process.
@@carnalito80 Mine had a pre applied adhesive.
Dude I can’t find my dsp chip mine looks way different then yours I have the txds787
Does it still work? I did it three times already and after some days it is broken again.
Still working. Sometimes it takes a while to click on so I'm thinking it may fail again. For some folks, it works great. Have you tried increasing the amount heat and time you heat the chip up?
My sound is intermittent and I don’t know what to do
@Upscaled: thank you for this video! is it a specialized flux?
It’s a no clean flux. Bought it on Amazon.
@@Upscaled_HT is there any difference between no clean flux(es)? probably melting point, right?
I thought it was that you don’t have to clean up the residue.
@@Upscaled_HT i will try it again with flux and a heat gun. I will report ;) thank you so much !
Mine stopped working on the left...
Only right speaker works now, or when i use mono mode, left works too.....
still working? Mine died yesterday.. I did the same process as you. but it lasted for about 2-3 hours...
I will try with higher temperature... Mine didn't smoke. ;-)
Mine is still working. The way I saw it was I had nothing to lose and the receiver was too old to pay for a repair. The fact that it worked for a while is encouraging. I saw a video where someone went much hotter than I did so that may do it. Best of luck.
@@Upscaled_HT that's my thoughts as well. Used 175 Celsius for a minute.. Will up the temp and time tomorrow and see. Thanks
@@AndersBergh hi did it worked for you??
@@ramdass1989 had to increase to 260 degrees Celsius for about a minute.
But the receiver is acting strange. Losses connection to PC. And when it does, I need to turn it of and on hoping for the best.
Sometimes I need to pull the power cord for about 10 minutes to make it connect.
If I was a hifi nerd and often listen to music or watching movies. I would buy a new one.
But this reciver is used as computer /speaker amp during covid homeworking
@@AndersBergh thanks for the reply .. how did you heat it ?
Hi folks - after 6 month after the "Re-Flow" Procedure , I have the same issue - no sound.... it works well until yesterday! I´ll repeat the session and will do it now with an installed USB Fan (Arktic or similar). I`ll let u know how it works...
How did it work?
@@TehRandomdudeofBANAN same issue over and over again... it works a while after re-flow and after approx 5-6 Months the speaker align in the display is missing - so i have to turn the amp off and on again (4-5 times) until the speaker align is already shown. But hey, this works well for me until a replacement / upgrade for Dolby Atmos in the near future...
@@skywelzano2064 Thanks for answering, alright!
i have a 2002 wrat onkyo whose chip fried like 5 months after it was bought new, so obviously it was still under warranty. they put a new one in and it's been fine for damn near 20 years, even with cat hair all over the board because he used to lay on it constantly.
but now the dolby is dropping out every now and then, but a light whack will get it going again, anyone have any idea if that's just a broken connection somewhere or
BGA chips suck, they use BGA in TVs and they are the number one failure. What I have found is it you gently prod the chip you can feel it move when the solder melts.
I had onkyo r990.prob is no sound.then i call repairman thdn he fix ing it.its works but after a few days it was gone again. And again.now i put in junk shop in my hhouse.this garbzge ampli.
Sorry it didn't work out for you. I had to junk a receiver last year too. I know the feeling.
Worked the first time and didn't need the flux. I just heated it up to 300 for a little and waited until it cooled. Turned it on and the speakers came right back on.
Awesome!
Its not that they get so hot so the solder melts, its the damn lead free solder that cracks after a random number of heat cycles.
Ohhh damn these are things I’ve never thought of, I’m currently running onkyo thx system and I also have a 7.1 ch pioneer receiver… should I keep just in case lmao 😂
Plzz reply brother
That is a temporary fix .it will not last
True but it could extend the life of the receiver for a while. You can also try the fix again if it stops working.
The L is silent in the word Solder. silent L you do not pronounce the L
It's not.
@@RandomBadger21 before you say it's not did you go and look it up in the dictionary. The L is silent like I said. Just like in the word colonel. Why does it have an r sound in it when there is no r in the word colonel?
I replied with a link to the Cambridge dictionary where they actually have the sound to listen too, but seems comments posted with links are removed. Google it and prove yourself wrong. Btw, you also pronounce the l in colonel, otherwise it would be coonel lol
Has anyone else tried this
I'm trying it but don't know if its hot enough. Can't see any pins so I'm not using flux .
