.... I won't forget seeing him live at Home nightclub Sydney i think it was 1999 ! the best night it was packed overflowing 3 level spiral club setup with 3000+ crowd and the set he put on was mesmerising!! never forgotten it..... he was so smooth totally focused like a robot it wasn't like other djs when he came on everyone ran to catch it ...1998-99 was amazing trance an melodic trance ❤️
I bought this when it came out along with all of the other Global Underground albums. Them were the days! Sadly go rid of all the CDs when I left the UK (cry emoji).
does anybody else get nostalgia that actually hurts your stomach. instantly transported back to a time where the wasn't a care in the world. this is the soundtrack to the best years of my life!
Im glad I'm not the only one. It's a real gut wrenching nostalgia. Almost like a grieving feeling, because you know those moments are forever gone. 1995 - 98 was the best music for me. That's when house/ trance was at its purest for me. After that it went down hill. In my opinion anyway
You said it perfectly Andrew Lewis, like a grieving feeling. This was the beginning of me ruining my life, but at the time it was absolutely magical. 8 years clean but I still have the music and the memories
I'm 27 years old, when I was young my father would show me all kinds of music he enjoyed and he was a big fan of eletronic music, Paul Oakenfold was always a name that constantly popped up between the many CD's he owned. Today my father is 57 years old and he's still listening to Paul Oakenfold, every time one of his CD's are playing, I can see my fathers face fill with the nostalgia of being young and care-free. Thank you Paul Oakenfold for sharing great music that spans generations, I will be sure to show this to my children as well 💜
I'm 30, my dad brought me up on music like this from a very young age. I couldn't name 5 of today's pop stars but I could talk all day about electronic music between 88-05
As someone with two sons messages like this warm my heart. I started my raving/clubbing days in '91 at 15 and have shared so many great moments on and off the dancefloor with Oakey, Sasha, Digweed, Nick Warren and Carl Cox. The best of times, the best of people, the best music. I think we actually touched the forbidden fruit. I share this music with my sons when i'm spinning OR cooking these days lol and hope they see the joy in me like you do your Dad. Hope he's still dancing mate. Respect!
I listened to this full mix 100’s of times during the late 90’s early 2000’s, it it one of my all time favorites. About to turn 55 and this still haunts my soul every time i listen to it. You have to listen to both CD’s non stop to complete the circle. Ending back up right where your mind started, for me with a bit of crying during, thinking back to the days down in SF where you could go and trance out all night long into the morning hours and end up parting with Euro’s on Holiday at their hotel when the clubs finally closed in the morning. So many good times/memories, I would give anything to relive that decade of my life, anything………. Boris is giving us a bit of this experience, thank goodness, not quite the same but will it ever be????
There are so many of us that feel this way right now. I'm from Chicago and I was designing rave/party flyers for big some events. All of it felt so new and exciting. Also remember getting Oakenfold's 'Tranceport' and it was always on repeat. And from time to time I have to put on the movie 'Groove' just to remember.
That’s life isn’t it? Ever get sad thinking your youth is gone forever? I do once in a while. I just want to show up in a room one night unexpected and see everyone in my life during this stage of my life.
"Back then", this was always the CD playing in the car cruising home w/the car full, as the sun was rising..and everyone was quiet.. and it was peaceful Now I'm 45 and this is *still* what I put on alone in the car cruising at night.. and I'm right back there..and it's peaceful and also bittersweet It'll always be a timeless masterpiece
I’m 57 mate and I still do it. Especially during summertime here in Greece when the sun rises from the sea and I drive listening to OKI in New York my mind just blows away and travels me back to the good old days. Passing this feeling to my two teens hoping just to get a bit of this feeling.

I'm 43 now and I still listen to this set, it decompressed me as I drink a few cold ones on my patio and stare at the sky. I have had many crazy moments in my life, and when I listen to this I'm free and the ever grabbing hands of life let go, as I let go.
I'm 60 years old & this music will stay with me forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Do you understand? You have to have passion...drama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Without it you're nothing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is some of the most beautiful music i've ever listened to. Take care.

@@awakenotwoke7949 Artificial intelligence is so dangerous. But look here we can communicate, and we can share this piece of Album and CD together many years later. I think that is a blessing. Let's not be over-nostalgic.
Unfortunately - music these days is predominantly made on laptops with software that squelches the sound quality. Music made with synthesisers. And the crowds these days seem to want to film someone mixing and screaming out a DJ’s name who is playing other people’s music. Shame.
I worked at Tower Records when this double album was released. No one was really into this music at the time and there are still many that aren't.. To those people, you truly missed out on oame truly special music by an amazing Producer, DJ, and human being. 😊

this CD and his many others take me back to some amazing times in my life when my mind went to places I had never dreamed it could go, nights hanging out with good friends till the sun came up thinking about the future, new theories, revelations, my life, my past, my future, and beyond. Insight is a beautiful thing. These days and this era have shaped who I am. Thank you Paul Oakenfold for providing the soundtrack to my formative adult years! All I have to do is put this on and I am transported back in time. Wow. Just wow. :)

Houston to Dallas ~2.5 hrs ~ silver 300zx~leave the club around midnight with anyone who could keep up to go to Lizard Lounge after hours til day break..( only did that about once a month for a couple yrs.. and it depended on what my mood was when i felt like leaving the clubs..it actually started when i left one club with my room mate to head to an after party and i was a bit tipsy(+) and got on the wrong freeway! freeway sign said DALLAS... it was 1:30am on a saturday,,, i told my roommate .."F_CK IT! LETS JUST GO TO DALLAS ... WE will buy clothes when we get there tomorrow IF WE go home" (2 days later)....LOLOLOLOLOL THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!!!!!!!!
60 yrs old. Loved going clubbing in Ybor City and Paul Oakenfold shows when much younger. Now I listen to his music to exercise too, to help me redirect my pain from my MS symptoms. Thank you ❤️❤️
That opening track will live with me forever. I was leaving my GFs place on a cold autumn morning and the drive to work was legendary. I had borrowed this from a friend and put it in the player as I drove along the foggy lakeside. One of those memories so vivid you can feel it
Memories of the club Heaven in the late 80's where I first saw Paul Oakenfold. Sublime and airy, a fusion of Balearic with House, it transformed London. The club scene went from pop rock to rave within a year. In the streets fashion moved from leather jackets to neon tracksuits. Privileged to have lived through this music revolution. It was a shift in consciousness too, from aggro to chill, fueled by Ecstasy. The next catharsis came around '96 with Robert Miles; by then it had taken the world. I'm in my mid-50's now and still hit the music festivals. The kids call me an "old stomper"; a mantle I wear with honour.
Couldn't wait to hit London for this exact reason - arrived early '90, stayed for a couple of years. Such an amazing time to be there as the music/club scene exploded. Everything i ever wanted
This is OUR Woodstock, OUR Sgt. Pepper, OUR Rite Of Spring. This Album Stands alone as the definitive Soundtrack of a generation. It captured our souls and had a generation of kids across the world dancing in unity. It was the soundtrack of our lives.
I remember me and my hubby were 19 at the time 2001 Rollin hard at this house party and just had to go out to my car and put this cd on through to the end. thought we were melting into the seats...we fell in love to this cd, perfecto presents another world, and communicate by Sasha and digweed ❤
FaerieDust just popped some tears. My now wife and I saw him in cincy- I started singing "turn it around baby" she thought she was the only one who knew that track
I'm 25 my mom would play global underground all the time! Grew up listening to DANNY TENAGLIA, SASHA, PAUL OKENFOLD constantly. Brings back so much childhood nostalgia.😩😩
1999-2005 Intense years for those that were in our early 20s. Amazing movies came out in 1998 and 1999 that along with this amazing trance music took us all down the rabbit hole and into unknown places in our minds and hearts. Movies like Fight Club, The Matrix, The Truman Show, Fear and Loathing Las Vegas, Memento, Requiem for a dream, The Beach and many others...It was indeed our spiritual awakening and rebellion, what a gift and a blessing for our generation.
45 and still listening to this...amazing 'Global Underground'.....they have alot of DJs...Sasha, Deep Dish to bame a few...alot of memories...its all in the head...no phone..no distraction..no judgemental...no care....just free to be yourself.
This CD was my introduction to Trance in the late 90's and I was hooked. It holds a special place in my heart, I even saw Oakey back in 2000ish at Aurora in Boson when it was still around. What an experience.
Does anyone else get goosebumps when they here this album for the first time in years and all the memories come flooding back. Back when the clubs were about the music, getting wasted, being free with friends. First time I hear this was in ibiza 1999 back at apartment with random people from the club we worked in space. I was in awe of this album. It actually makes me sad when I think about how good times were back then. I miss it. This album is incredible and is unbeatable
I had the absolute honor and privilege of spending some time with the one and only Paul Oakenfold a few months ago, and let me tell you, this man is the epitome of genuine and humble. His love for life and his passion for the art of Trance shines through in every single note of his music, and it's impossible not to be swept away by the sheer brilliance of it all. This album, along with the incomparable Oakey himself, are true classics.
I'll never forget his thumbs up to me at Homelands 2000. He came on straight after Ian Brown and we couldn't get to the front....so me mate told me to fake a heart attack and he carried me straight to the front 😂Oakey just gave us a thumbs up....That was enough 👌absolute legend
I'm reading these heart felt comments with a huge smile on my face and love in my heart....I feel like I know you all.... the sunsets and sunrises we shared ....the very best times of our lives...peace and love brothers and sisters....forever connected x
Am retired guy here 65 ,been a total fan for along time ,it takes me back in time, things where alot simpler, long live Oakenfold, totally beautiful perfection
Всем привет. Мне 42 и я очень давно слушаю эту музыку и каждый раз как будто в первый , отправляюсь в фантастическое путешествие по фантастическому миру ! Привет всем из России.
Im so glad my mum raised me on trance music in the 90s ,just opens your mind to a whole new world of happiness. Much love from South Africa and Australia
Most if not all of these cuts are 25 years old now. This was so fresh. Paul and most of the others on Global Underground were ahead of their time. This still sounds modern in many ways. I bet you couldn't say that about any music from 1972 in 1997. Zip!
@@djscott9207 Zip? Wow really? First thing that comes to mind after a nano-second is Pink Floyd's Meddle (1971) much of which still sounds like it's from the future 51 years later.
41 Years old still listening to it .... i just dont know how to turn back that time ... music was so much better in every way .... those parties my god !!! i wish i would return back in this life to experience all these all over again and repeat repeat repeat
Oakes worked extremely hard as a dj and deserves much respect. A set oozing wax. 100% dopamine release no enhancements needed. Long live my guy! I wish vinyl could come back into the music world so badly. There is an art to it missing from the digital platforms today. From digging for your library to the unique combinations of each artist. So much more than downloading it and playing the same as everyone else depending on the crowds expectations for the moment.
Seriously a hero of mine from the early stuff to the residency at Cream, I’m from that area so he was a big draw for the club and yeah the annexe was lit. Seen him many times after that like after Massive Attack at Creamfields absolutely epic, Perfetco tour Manchester Acadamy on a Thursday night with many jocks, a Pioneer on vynil❤️
Yes..vinyl is a lost art! Years ago I went to Coachella and heard Daft Punk's digital set that was only modified by a few sounds here and there. I was with a friend who had been to another Daft Punk show and he said that it was comprised of 98% of what he had heard months before..just push and play music today..SO sad!
If you were not there when or how all this movement started back in the days then you have no idea what an amazing fun era you missed out on... 54 and still listening and enjoying this awesome music!! 🎧
as a kid a was dancing right next to him. There was no bariers or security. People was able to jump on stage and dance. There was no vip area and such shit.
Love seeing new comments on this nine year old upload and even older mix/compilation. Just shows how strong our community was/still is. This was always my "go-to" disc back in the day.
Timeless. This music always transforms reality into an alternate state of being, unlocking secrets of the mind, allowing one to consciously float thru space and time, viewing the world from other perspectives. Dreamlike, natural and organic as the beat flows.
As a fan of this genre of music from 1997-2005, I'm only just discovering the essential mixes from around 1994-1997 and thanking lockdown and TH-cam and this wonderful community; otherwise these classics would have passed me by and never enriched my life as they have done over these past weeks xx
This was my first Global Underground CD, and second CD of Paul Oakenfold. I was 21 when I bought this CD set. Wow! The memories!!!! CD 1 and 2 where always playing on my 1996 Nissan 300zx! I get nostalgic every time I listen to this CD. Great times! Takes me back in time 😢
OMG! I cannot explain how hearing this makes me feel. I used to jump around to this in my younger years. This used to transport me away to my happy place. Get goosebump’s hearing it every time. Such a timeless compilation-just keeps building and getting better and better with every beat. My emotions go up and down so many times-some things you just cannot do without 🙌🙌🙌
I was 16 working in a sports shop in Glasgow and my manager put this CD on, hearing it now makes me wish I was older and hearing it in the clubs and Ibiza! I’m 37 now, 2 kids and happily married but love nothing more thank sitting on a Saturday night listening to this incredible mix wishing I could Go back in time! Truly timeless........
The sounds of my early 20s. Genius. I adore his intro's into the albums. His use of operatic voices, drum and base, trance. Visceral reminders of a wonderful decade in time of the global underground album releases. Never to be repeated I think, at least in my lifetime anyway. Nostalgia...
I bought and lost this CD 5 times. Every time I bought it I'd lose it sometime later and then I'd buy it again, and again, and again... And I never bought any other CD more than once.
I miss the 90s so much. It was the last mostly carefree decade: pre-recession, pre-9/11, pre-record setting heat waves, pre-sars/covid. We just danced.
This album just takes me back to a time of wide-eyed youthful innocence. I introduced so many friends to it and we got lost in its dreamy sounds on many nights.
I still think this is my favourite album of all time (this and Northern Exposure 2 digweed and sasha). I was 19 Years old full of optimism and ambition. The world seemed different then. Nothing takes me back to that time like good tunes do, so many memories and thoughts rush back to me, not sure if it makes me happy or sad... weird #007 #londontotaunton
Takes me back 25 years to Friday and Saturday nights driving my Acura Legend while listening to Metropolis on KCRW with Jason Bentley and Nick Harcourt on the radio as I made my way northbound on 110 towards West Hollywood hitting the clubs catching Nick Warren and Paul Oakenfold perform. Finishing out the night chasing after-hour parties at the Viper Room, Rainbow Room or the Whiskey Lounge. Some times I would end up at the Dresden some times in one of the posh hotel lounges on Sunset. Spent second half of 2000’s in Europe, enjoying the nightlife there and emerging out of many clubs 6 in the morning. Partying was an immersion in nightlife culture back then. I don’t know what it is nowadays. Ever since I met my wife, dinner and opera has been what we call going out. But I still love my down tempo and chill electronica. Just don’t tell her that.
listened to this sitting in the sea on a lounger in the maldives 2001, coral sand between my toes with fish swimming around my feet watching the sun go down.... 10 minutes into the mix watching the sun.. .... and..now I am smiling
Incredible... I bought this at tower recrods when I was 13 y/o I would zone and meditate with this mix.. people thought it was stupid back then. Now electronic is everywhere. What is a classic gem.
All the tracks is amazing.....iam 44 years old and i have the change to wear all this master tracks in Athens!!! Sun...Sea... Paul...and amazing fellings....
This CD played relentlessly for me during my first experiences of the underground in Toronto. Such special days, never to be forgotten and likely never repeated.
Hell yeahh this was the master of the trance house in the late 90s and all the collection of Global underground is amazing , sasha ,tenaglia, diwed, seaman ,oakenfold, warren ,emerson ,fontaine and many many more .....I remember in 1999 a rave in mexico city where oakenfold have to open an additional night playing the best of him.
I feel u. A lot of these old sets bring back mixed emotions. Great times w great fukn family thats not around anymore and thats where it kicks u in the guts. Sad
This is and was the best dance music CD in my CD collection to date, loved listening to this CD on my way to work in 98 & 99 everyday while on the bus.
52 years young and still listening ... jammed this in early 2000's while going to and from the clubs in San Diego, great memories with great friends. Those times are gone forever now , but the music lives on!
Goosebumps and a big smile on my face listening to this. I was at Cream every week apart from 2 in 1998 listening to Oakie in The Courtyard. Priceless. Good times and agree with Andrew Lewis, not a care in the world!
I use to listen to top 40 music for the first 23 years of my life. When I turned 23 I was introduced to the underground world and this was the first album I ever listened. Not a bad way to start. 22 years later and I can still say this moment changed my music taste and life forever.
Takes me back to 05, moms bf was into Paul's mixes, mushys, and pc gaming, taught me to build my own pc at 12. And how to pirate 😆 27 this takes me back. 3 2 1 and dropppppp
Man in my Teens, Paul Oakenfold was life. I suppose him and a handful of other DJs, Producers and Artist of this time, got me into electronic music, and I became enthralled in it all. It really set the tone for the rest of my life to follow. Yes its that deep
I bought this compilation back when it was new in 1999 and it is probably my favorite compilation of all time. Timeless is a word that comes to mind. I love trance music and no one did it better than Oakey. I also love his china mix compilation. what a belter.
I’ve never heard of Paul oakenfold before only when looking up old club albums.. like rick west and bad boy bill..I saw a couple of his early beats only then... I clubbed when I was younger I was fifteen years old and living on the streets..no place to go I learned of underground party’s and started parting every weekend from Friday to Monday morning three days straight no sleep just trying to make friends to keep money and feeling this unusual ecstasy of this enormous group of people that in my despair came out of nowhere and I mean I know everything where I lived at and this happened over night.. this album reminds me of the dark places I went and heard of...you ever heard of people whispering around you Paul is a whisper..
i worked in ibiza 1999 and 2000 and took this album with me. We used to play it after nights out Space and manumission etc. Just chilling out in apartment or beach with cd player have a week smoke. This has to be one of the best compilations ever even to this day it still holds itself well. Its an absolute gem and brings back so many nice memories. Sad how things change when time moves on but also amazing to be part of this when it was released. Thank you so much for uploading!

How TF are we in our 50s??
Awesome times. I lived in the Bay area around 2001. What a party town. 1015 Folsom was my go to.
I'm almost 60 years old. When you have good taste in music it never leaves you.
James Miller it never does!
Guillermo Ortega and it will stay 4ever in my heart

So true. Good music knows no particular genre either.
James Miller must have been around when i was as im 54 getting there
And you never find yourself saying, "There's no good music anymore!"
42 years old, still bumping this - definitely agree, soundtrack to some of the best times of my life!!! The party never stopped ❤
i'm 39 and i absolutely feel you! i love GU series, there will be a super gig in my hometown (Budapest) with Digweed in 3 weeks.... I cannot wait...
48 and yes still bumping this👊😎.
true,I am 40 but the party never stops...unforgetable times
Are you me?
52 and listen to this at the gym!! Sure miss those days.
Worst part about that era is that I didn't realize how awesome it was until it was over. :(
Not me. When I was in the scene from 1994 to 2000, I knew it was a special time that would not last forever, even though I tried. PLUR brother.
That’s life isn’t it? Ever get sad thinking your youth is gone forever? I do once in a while. I just want to show up in a room one night unexpected and see everyone in my life during this stage of my life.
That’s always the way, you look back and realise, ‘fuck they were times.’
Yeah man with you on that one. But we got there one way or another 😊
I had the pleasure of opening this collection on Bliss Trek I'm Mystica
"Back then", this was always the CD playing in the car cruising home w/the car full, as the sun was rising..and everyone was quiet.. and it was peaceful
Now I'm 45 and this is *still* what I put on alone in the car cruising at night.. and I'm right back there..and it's peaceful and also bittersweet
It'll always be a timeless masterpiece
this stuff realy takes people being quiet to be appreciated.
I’m 57 mate and I still do it. Especially during summertime here in Greece when the sun rises from the sea and I drive listening to OKI in New York my mind just blows away and travels me back to the good old days. Passing this feeling to my two teens hoping just to get a bit of this feeling.
The first track will always b known as the desert trance song. So fucking majestic. 😂

I'm 43 now and I still listen to this set, it decompressed me as I drink a few cold ones on my patio and stare at the sky. I have had many crazy moments in my life, and when I listen to this I'm free and the ever grabbing hands of life let go, as I let go.

Wow. Just wow. :)

The kids call me an "old stomper"; a mantle I wear with honour.
steve dewitt my respects man !!! You lived a beautiful era !!

As i get older and play this set. Nostalgia set's, i would do anything to travel back and have one more go.
45 and still listening to this...amazing 'Global Underground'.....they have alot of DJs...Sasha, Deep Dish to bame a few...alot of memories...its all in the head...no phone..no distraction..no judgemental...no care....just free to be yourself.
Deep Dish Moscow still gets airtime in my playlist
This CD was my introduction to Trance in the late 90's and I was hooked. It holds a special place in my heart, I even saw Oakey back in 2000ish at Aurora in Boson when it was still around. What an experience.
Hands down one of the greatest trance albums ever produced,,,
No doubt one of the best ever.
David Graham I miss those times so much. Back then music, clubbing and especially Ibiza were the main thing in life.
I just did, this is some awesome music 🎶
David, is that you?& The guy who flew off in unison to this album with me in that apartment in Ibiza&? Damn, how are you?
Paul Oakenfold playing at Club Insomnia in Las Vegas tonight....🕺💃
I had the absolute honor and privilege of spending some time with the one and only Paul Oakenfold a few months ago, and let me tell you, this man is the epitome of genuine and humble. His love for life and his passion for the art of Trance shines through in every single note of his music, and it's impossible not to be swept away by the sheer brilliance of it all. This album, along with the incomparable Oakey himself, are true classics.
What a beautiful blessing you had to have spent time with him..I'm sure it will be with you forever
Saw him in Singapore at his Christmas Eve show in 2022. Absolutely epic. The legend is still going. Strong!

Да,полностью согласен, очень хочется чтобы винил вернулся!
Probably my favourite disc in the GU records portfolio. Absolute masterpiece!
I’ve always appreciated so much he kept the bpms on the more deep house side on this record. What a 💎 gem!!! 10/2023

You are only one here who get my like.

Takes me back in time 😢
ah man! that was my teenage dream. cruising in a nissan 300zx with oakenfold playing.
excelente!!!

The sounds of my early 20s. Genius. I adore his intro's into the albums. His use of operatic voices, drum and base, trance. Visceral reminders of a wonderful decade in time of the global underground album releases. Never to be repeated I think, at least in my lifetime anyway. Nostalgia...
Back when you would just see 2 decks, 2 records and a mixer, no gimmicks, no cheating.

Just don’t tell her that.
the ability for this cd to invoke such strong memories is incredible. I can almost feel it. seems so real

Feeling some serious jealousy abt the luck of being there during that time 😉
You said it dude
fuck sake, im 36 and that was the best time of my life, I can only imagine what it was like in Ibiza, 99, the year of trance, never forget it
David Graham Fyfe way head of his time ............ a master ;-)
What's a week smoke lol
THANKS!
The best of the 90s im 51 now and this still gets me and takes me back to the best days of my life xx god bless Paul Oakenfold the master of Dance xx
The mix (album) changed my life. Forever. God bless this collection.
