I'm checking out several of your videos and I have subscribed. Really appreciate these technical deep-dives because properly understanding an issue with a tool of a craft is vital. I was shocked by how the Huion 24" 4K looked in-person but your videos are helping. ✌
Thanks for making this video. The AG sparkle was very noticeable ever since I got my Kamvas 16 4k. I've found that a generic clear laptop screen protector solved the sparkle issue for my tablet which I'm assuming is because their film had more adhesive than Photodon to fill in the AG texture of the screen. The only issue with most generic screen protectors is that they have a blue light filter which interferes with the colors of the tablet.
@@Rizum85 I got mine on Amazon by F FORITO tempered glass 15.6 screen protector. Though you could probably get a cheaper one because it's not really tempered glass. Just make sure it doesn't advertise blue light filter
@@Rizum85 I got mine from Amazon and it is listed as "F FORITO 15.6 inch tempered glass screen protector". I'd assume any screen protector that doesn't advertise blue light filtering would also be suitable.
honestly I feel so much better using a pen tablet nowadays than a pen display. Not only my posture is healthy, but I don't have to deal with lots of wires, taking a huge desk space, and other ergonomic issues.
Hello, this video made me subscribe to your channel... loved your empirical approach to this matter.. keep us on the loop if you find any kind of solution to etched glass drawing tablets.
From my experiences with huion kamvas 24 4k, 24 plus and 16 4k, the 4k tablets are completely unusable with that amount of grain. Truly shocking that they would put out something like that. An ipad pro with a bellemond kent screen protector is the perfect amount of grain, clarity and texture, but drawing on an ipad sucks compared to a full on tablet. If these tablet brands just made screens just raw gloss and offered different grades of screen protectors like the Wacom texture sheets, maybe even magnetic, perhaps none of this would be an issue. The 25% photodon seems to be the best choice for 4K tablets, though I reckon any lesser resolution will just be too blurry. Would it reduce the darkness of the black colors too? because the Huion 24 4K already struggles with brightness and getting dark blacks. Also, I asked you on reddit but how is the raw texture of the Huion vs Cintiq etched glass? I have read there are some differences but nothing definitive, the huion feeling more smooth basically like glass which has been my experience. Since you've had both what could you say? Thanks
I didn't notice much reduction in the black or darker regions. But then I wasn't really looking that hard for it. As for the texture of the Cintiq vs Huion. It's very dependent on the model. My Cintiq Pro 27 and Huion Kamvas Pro 24 4K seem to have very comparable textures with their respective pens. Maybe the cintiq feels like it has more texture. Neither feels close to the slippery feeling of those pens on the surface of an iPad.
@@lesnacke For etched glass - interesting question. I read about people having glass of their tablets show a lot of scratches/wear but I've never seen anyone say the sparkle diminished. And I certainly haven't experienced reduction in sparkle myself. For AG films, the light dispersion is inside the film so that should never change over time.
Agreed. I have been using Photodon MXH for years on all my devices. I have tried other brands too. The largest being the Wacom 22HD, the smallest a LG V60 ThinQ.
Amazing work with this and findings!, As a professional concept artist this is something that has always bothered me. I personally removed the AG film from the Wacom Mobile studio pro 2 and have been using it that way for over 8 years with no issues. It feels pretty similar to my iPad pro, but because I use felt nibs, it is not too bad. Unfortunately my mobile studio's LCD panel has started to fail, and I am now in search of a replacement. I have a back up wacom 1, and huion kamvas pro 16 (FHD), but they are not usable in my opinion due to the resolution and sparkle. I recently got to try the Wacom 27 pro, but for that price the fan's are a no go for me. I found the Xencelabs 24 today and have started doing some research on it. I found your Reddit post, and website which led me here! I'm going to try and hold out till the end of the year to see if wacom releases a smaller 27 pro hopefully with issues addressed, or I might just give the xencelabs a try since you rated that one as one of the best sparkle solutions and the fanless design looks amazing. I still prefer Wacom's drivers as I heavily use the onscreen radial wheel virtual shortcuts. All in all, to any manufactures reading this, Please offer some options with NO etched glass or AG, you can combat glare with brightness, i.e. iPad pro, but in my opinion, sparkles is worse than glare! Hoping that we see some of these options in the future! Anyway, this is long, but keep up the great work, maybe you could reach out to manufactures and start doing reviews on tablets, like the xencelabs!
One think I noticed with the Xencelabs display was that it had more pointer lag than the Cintiq Pro 27. more here: docs.thesevenpens.com/drawtab/7p-notes/xencelabs/7p-notes-xencelabs-pen-display-24 . Just wanted to call that out since it might be an issue for some people
@@thesevenpens Interesting, I did see your notes on this. I'm hoping to get to try one before I purchase. The Wacom 27 pro screen is 120Hz, so I wonder if it might just be perception of that vs the 60Hz on the Xence? From other videos I have seen on it so far, I haven't noticed too much of a difference, but It would be helpful to get some more users reviews so we can figure it out. All in all they do have a 30 day return window if it ends up being an issue.
@@CaptainCactuarI owned the xencelabs for a week, it didn’t have sparkle exactly but I was really displeased with the amount of pixel blur it had tho. Even my sharpest lines wouldn’t look sharp. Idk how common that issue is but it was a big deal for me
@@Alfred_the_doodler This is pretty common on AG etched glass, and seems that the more they reduce sparkle, the more blur it produces. The best middle of the road I have seen for this on current gen tablets would be the latest Wacom Pro series, but they are extremely expensive. I hope that we get a tablet option in the future with no AG etched glass, much like the iPad, for those of us that are sensitive to it.
That dust is my fault. I was applying and removing the films several times and as I kept putting them on the desk they started to pick up dust. When I originally put them on they were completely dust free and I had cleaned the surface of the tablet.
photodon doens't deliver to my country, do you think this could work with huion's own ag screen protector on top of the etched glass? Could you try it?
Technically you can remove AG glass from lcd panel cause AG glued around lcd panel to the "body". Better to give that kind of task to the people who repairing monitors/lcd panels. There is an example on youtube whith guy who accidently cracked his monitor, but was able to apply new simple glass on top on glue and pen worked great. Btw I had cintiq 24 pro and image quality was like with photodon Huion AG screen+AG Film 85% - well, very bad. Sold it long time ago and got Huion 24, I have no complains to image (almost) to it even with film on top. But curious how it will be whithout film by my own eyes, at least colors should be much better, but yeah with more glare. Good job btw, but I think the reason its hard fot you to capture sparkle effect and etc is becouse of you taking photo too close. Even from 2 cm I could see how bad image was on 4k cintiq, but the higher resolution, the more this effect noticeble becouse of higher pixel density.

The KP19 doesn't have AG film so there's nothing to remove. Instead the AG treatment comes in the form of the etched glass surface.
