I see Agnu and Beep's relationship as one between two broken individuals. Agnu by years upon years of torture, and Beep by being 'defective' and exiled by the hive. Together, they find someone like themselves.
I think Agnu seeing Beeps sense of freedom, being a prisoner for a thousand years, and knowing he is separated from his hive, inspires Agnu. The result of Agnus enthrallment and beeps depression and seeming disassociation due to leaving the hive should have been a death sentence for both of them. They are both symbols of perseverance, in a world where everything is eventually ground to nothing and returned to the dust. Beep shall sit the throne of the third empire, with Agnu as his head in a j- RIGHT HAND MAN.
This video really hit me because I literally just got one of my friends into kenshi and she's addicted to it. She's decided that her playstyle is going to be following around neutral faction patrols and healing them in a 'doctors without borders' group of roaming nomads, so that "eventually the faction relations with everyone will go up bit by bit and everyone will like me". I hope it works, honestly, because that's genuinely one of the most pure-hearted things you can do in this game full of peeler metagame strats. Now I can think of myself as the Agnu to her Beep.
Interestingly, if you have Beep in your party when Agnu had her PTSD attack upon re-entering Venge, Beep will calm them down and allow you to control Agnu again way faster than if you don’t have Beep.
Even in my skeleton only runs I get Beep. I always play it off as these skeletons feel bad for Beep, an innocent little hiver, and have him help carry their things around (effectively strength training him) while providing him safety. Beep learns to cook for himself using meat from animals slain by the skeletons. Over time he takes a few hits but they always come to his rescue. Eventually, the team picks up Agnu and Agnu sees potential in Beep that the rest don't. Agnu gives Beep one of the rusty swords they've collected during their adventure and insists (through gesturing) that Beep should be trained to fight. They agree to help, after all, Beep has shown some fighting spirit. Eventually, being a hiver, he loses his first limb and said limb is replaced with a cybernetic. "BEEP IS ALSO A SKELETON!" Their beloved Hiver goes apeshit as soon as his new robot arm is grafted to his body. The skeletons look at each other, and then to Agnu. Agnu shrugs as if to say "Hey, why not?" and they decide not to crush his hopes and dreams. Beep's strength is by now immense. He loses another arm in combat, and as his party has him help carry things he elects to get masterwork lifter arms. One day while loading a rare Edge Type III Fragment Axe they've looted into their cargo, Beep notes that with his new arms he can swing the otherwise awkward and clumsy weapon with relative ease. He begins fighting with it, at first not very effectively as he gets used to its weight and heft. Eventually as his dexterity climbs from practicing with a rusty nodachi, he is also able to effectively wield a short cleaver for indoors combat. He loses his legs, and they replace them with KLR legs. Beep was never the sneaky thieving type anyways. As he keeps getting beaten up his toughness climbs. He becomes skilled in blunt and hacking weapons over time as well as katanas from his dexterity training. He finds a set of Masterwork samurai armor as well as a hive chain shirt and dons it. It's heavy and compromises his movement a bit, but he's now so strong and so skilled with his weapons that the maluses matter little. "BEEP IS THE STRONGEST!" the cybernetically enhanced, heavily armored hiver screams in a deranged manner, as he slashes a Reaver in half neck to crotch with his Fragment Axe while Agnu beheads another one with a single swing of his Falling Sun. The other skeletons simultaneously respect and fear the duo too much to disagree. Sadneil may be a skilled martial artist rivaling Tinfist himself, Burn may be a renowned slayer of beasts with his polearm, and the rest may be good with their respective weapons, but they've created a monster, thank Stobe he's on their side.
SOMEONE WHO GETS ME!! sorry im gonna get a little autistic in your comments section here but. I love these two a lot and see them as weird opposites that get along, one who can't express themselves and one who talks too much. I like to think they spend nights of Beep just ranting about who knows what and Agnu just calmly listening. Beep doing wonders to help them stay grounded after everything they've been thru. I wish you would have mentioned how Beep will comfort Agnu if he's in your team when Agnu has their ptsd fit in venge. Either telling them "We aren't bringing you back there" or if Screamer and Ponk are dead "Its okay, Beep killed them they wont hurt you anymore" I think the protectiveness goes both ways with them especially as Beep grows and becomes stronger. And I think Agnu doesn't always realize that they need Beep as much as Beep needs them. LIKE UGH THE HEARTBREAKING DIALOGUE THAT HAPPENS IF BEEP IS CAPTURED/KILLED I also tend to see a lot of people argue about Agnu's gender a lot and I wanna say I appreciate you for using they/them for them! I personally see them as genderfluid but often use they/them for them as default! ALso a little tidbit that means nothing but like i said i think a lot about these guys and I went as far as to assign tarot cards to them because the symbolism makes me insane I often represent Agnu with the chariot: overcoming conflicts and moving forward in a positive direction. One needs to keep going on and through sheer hard work and commitment he will be victorious. With all the hardships they've been through and the fact they seem to be making an attempt to push their life in a new direction While Beep to me is fairly obviously the fool: new beginnings, having faith in the future, being inexperienced. Basically the nativity that beep faces and his endless optimism as he doesn't fully understand the harsh world and how it works SORRY FOR GETTING SO PASSIONATE HERE BUT I LOVE THESE TWO A LOT AND THEY ARE CONSTANTLY IN MY BRAIN 24/7
There are only a few skeleton recruits you can get in Kenshi so I was originally going to put Agnu on one of my base’s turrets, but seeing the interactions they have with Beep I knew I had to put Agnu on my exploration team! The whole song Beep sings about being the greatest warrior and Agnu added a grunt or an eeeee at the end of each verse in agreement is just amazing and dare I saw it, wholesome!
Not sure if you already did but if not, you should talk about Miu and Hamut and their relationship. They have some really interesting lines between eachother as well as relating to their individual stories. Two of my personal favorites

If Agnu had a voice, all you would hear him/her/it say would be "POLICE!!!!! POLICE!!!! POLICE!!!!"... so its a good thing he doesnt say anything. I never had both of them in the party, since i despise ants for how useless they are in combat (maybe with the exception of soldiers, and even then theres a lot of areas i have to avoid due to lack of the ability to wear gas masks; before anyone says anything - already did a full ant playthrough; front line made of 8 soldiers, most kidnapped from the UC peasantry, and 2 prince crossbowmen hired in bars). Beep is... toxic. Thats all i have to say about him. Hope he gets eaten by fogmen.
"It" isn't the correct pronoun for the skeletons of Kenshi. All of them are genderless but use "he" and "they" when referring to themselves and other skeletons. Agnu once suggests that they are female in a conversation with Beep, but this, oddly enough, may or may not change the pronouns used when reffering to Agnu. We really don't know. Maybe we will learn more in Kenshi 2, which is supposed to take place 1000 years before Kenshi so hopefully we will see more of what the skeletons were like before most of them were broken or reset.
If Beep dies, Agnu reacts to it. :(

Why do you call Agnu "they", when it is an "it".
