I just started my transition - I’m almost 70 and have been dying my hair for decades so it’s a bit scary, but I’m learning so much from all the beautiful women posting about their own experiences with transitioning. Thank you for sharing your styling tips, that’s extremely useful! You look lovely and I’m looking forward to seeing more about your hair journey over time.
Thx so much Danielle. This process does require confidence and I've been feeling a bit wobbly lately. Your positive comments really encouraged me. When I'm having an off day, I try to remind myself that I had those days when I was dyeing my hair too. We can do this together!
Great video. I am 8 weeks in with my grow out process. I love your attitude and advice. I will follow along and we can go gray together. Your hair is thick and gorgeous. My 41 yr old daughter is fully gray with cute haircut. I'm 70 and like you I do not want to be dying hair at 80.
Thank you for the lovely comments Frannie! I think the first 2 months was probably the hardest for me and you're making great progress. It's so nice that your daughter can support you along the way. We're in this together!
You are a natural! I loved your honesty about how challenging it can be at times coupled with your positivity. I can appply your advice - support, patience, determination to any challenges. You look beautiful- loved the hair styles and can’t wait to see your progress!
Thx Sue so much! The process is slow and sometimes it feels like I still have so far to go but I recently noticed that when I pull my hair straight back, I no longer see brown dye. That's a win! I really appreciate your support. 💕
I took the natural path a few years ago. Got tired of chasing that white line. I love my hair now. It's healthier and it's silver. I use purple shampoo once a week or so. Good luck! You will love it
What a lovely video! I love your hairstyle demos ☺️ I have been growing my natural/ grey out for 9 months. I originally had dark reddish brown hair but have had it highlighted blonde for several years. I’ve found that although I have very light greys around my temples and at the front, the back is very dark!! It’s been difficult going from light blonde to a much darker colour but I still love it and my husband adores it too 💗 I’m so looking forward to seeing your journey 😊
Hi Lisa, don't you find your grey pattern quite interesting and unexpected? For some reason, I expected my natural color to be more even and more salt and pepper but I have quite a bit of white framing my face. It's so great that you're liking your natural hair and that your husband is so supportive. That means everything on this journey! 🥰Let's keep doing this together.
Thank you for the styling tips and words of encouragement. You look terrific. I am four months from last full color, had some baby lights added in July to blur the demarcation line a bit, don’t think I will do that again, cold turkey from here, (maybe). Keep us posted on your progress.
I've been tempted to get highlights too just to change things up a bit but I'm trying really hard to wait until my natural hair color has completely grown in. After that, I might give it a try. I'll definitely keep you posted on my progress! We've got this!
I started the Grey process 2018 , I didn't want the "wait" period. So I bleach wash (bleach lift up tpo 10. - 20 vol. Developer - shampoo equaling same parts and Ardell drops red gold brass kicker a must ) I do this process every 6 - 7 Mos. To keep a light Silver Grey color ...... it safely got to a 10 level from a 4 level color in about 40 - 45 min , then used Wella Color Charm toner 050 add 20 % vol and the Ardell drops . The "Shea Moisture" brand line ( from Amazon or CVS Pharmacy) has kept my hair very healthy it is my essential must have shampoo/ conditioner & mask . So now every 6-7 Mos I do a 10 minute bleach wash. Now I am able to have a white silver gray hair without the wait. Edit: I also use "Fantasia heat protector" and leaves my hair shimmering! Get compliments and younger women friends are starting on the natural grey color journey too. This process if done in a salon it runs into the $hundreds , I buy little by little and once I have products on hand I just wait until I feel it needs to refresh & brighten up. Hope it'll help someone that is impatient for the waiting time.... God bless
Hi Ms Levi! Thx for sharing the process that you used to dye your hair a white/silver grey color. I'll bet it looks beautiful. 🥰 I wish I had your expertise and was brave like you are! I've toyed with having some color correction done to the front part of my hair but my hair dresser didn't feel overly confident in doing that process, so I'm in the "long game!" I definitely feel impatient some days.
Good to see you didn't cut dark bit off ...I stopped color in may and I have a couple of acquaintances tell me to keep cutting my dark bits off I'm ok with two tone. I told one person I created my own Balayage...other way round 😆
Your hair looks beautiful! I am in same boat as you. But you are ahead of me in growth and you a wonderful amount of silver. Stay with it and watch your skin glow😊
Gurrrl look at you ! I love this, I’m not as grey in the front yet… but it is trending like yours as in back I have no greys. I have no idea what to expect. I really loved the braids, I am no longer doing permanent coloring as it is too damaging and was affecting my scalp so I do semi and it gives my greys a golden shade. Happy so far with that process as is my scalp. I am so proud of you xx
Hi Barb, thx so much for your positive comments and sharing your experience with permanent dye affecting your scalp. It's amazing how different everyone's gray pattern is. Mine is still evolving but it's clear that most of my white/gray is framing my face. This process sure takes time and patience. xx
Your hair and you are Beautiful!!! I am on the same journey last color was 7/2/22 I know it will get scary it’s only 3 inches grow out so I don’t know I was a med dark Brownette before coloring lightest cool blonde 20+ yrs ago.
Hey Barb!!! I’m feeling the same as you re coloring my hair @ scalp irritations my last color was 7/2/22. Lightest cool blonde I’m curious re semi color?? Is it feeling better on your scalp? I have some dermatitis & rosacea
@@colleenpec121 Hi Colleen, I feel I'm at the scary stage now! Some days are harder than others. My natural color is much darker at the back than it used to be. But I guess after coloring my hair for so many years, my color changed over time without me being aware of it. I'm still quite curious about how my hair will look once it's completely grown out. I sure hope I like it!
Thx so much for your positive comments, Teionnea. I really can't wait to get to my 1 year mark! That feels like such a milestone and it's definitely attainable.
Excellent video with great, practical advice! The hairstyles you showed were fantastic. Your hair looks beautiful and is growing out wonderfully. Bless you for this video and your encouragement.
42 years old, 4 months in on dark brown hair, just recently cut my long hair to short bob. This mad it a little easier for me to handle especially on those crazy hair days. Can't wait til it's all grown out. Staying positive and embracing being a silver sister.
Wow, Well done! I agree a shorter bob makes things a little easier. If my hair wasn't so fluffy, I would definitely go shorter too. Nice to hear from you, silver sister!💟
I couldn't take the line, so after 2 months got a short pixie, taking of all the dyed hair. Hair grows, right? I always get so many compliments on my shiny grey and silver! I figured a wig would have been an option if it didn't work....but short grey is fine for now. Go for it! Especially in the summer:)
Thank you for taking the time to make this video. I have had a similar experience and we are on the same timeline. It is amazing what people say. I even feel some people say what ever comes to mind. It is hard to have Tri colored hair. I have less white than you do.
Hi Cindy, I'm excited to hear from someone that's on the same time line as me. I agree that tri-color hair is very hard. Some days I honestly just avoid the mirror. I'm still really curious to see what my hair looks like when I get through this process, which btw is very slow. Let's do this together!
I'm on my Grey journey also. My hair is halfway down my back and on the curly side. I refuse to cut it even though it grows quickly. I stripped my color off what was grown below my grey/silver hair. Now it's a bit lighter than yours. If you want longer hair just let it grow bc it looks great the way your doing it. I love your side braid. Don't be self conscious it looks thick and beautiful. Most women don't realize a lighter color around the frame of a mature face looks more youthful.
Hi GG, thank you for sharing your experience with going grey. I'm with you, about wanting to have longer hair and didn't want to cut it in case I hated the cut. I don't think I have the will to cope with 3 colors of hair and a cut I'm not happy with. I also agree that very dark hair framing a mature face doesn't look youthful. This process takes patience and some days I feel like I'm not getting anywhere. That's when it helps to look back at photos and see that change is happening.
@@grayexpectations5686 My only advice if you really hate the multi colored hair (which I find you're pulling off fine ) is to go to sallys hair supply or any hair supply or online. and get a permanent hair color stripper . I did that bc I use to dye a medium brown in back and dyed the front a light blonde. It made my back part a light blonde and of coarse my aprox. 6 to 8 inches of new growth grey blends much better now. Plus stripping the blonde revealed more grey. You can use it all over it won't change your grey. I use to be a hair dresser years ago and my daughter is one now. Happy greying !!
Elizabeth what a great post with so many really lovely styles to choose from. I think you look wonderful (so does Franklyn) and the colors are similar! 🥰
Yes, I think Franklyn and I do have similar hair colors for sure. Ppl say that after a while we start to look like our pets, so maybe I have some company out there!
Thanks so much for your encouraging words, Vera. Honestly, sometimes this journey is long and I can get impatient with my progress. Trying to stay the course.
Thx so much Ajean! I really appreciate your positive comments. Some days, I feel a little blah about how slow this journey is, and I really appreciate the encouragement! 💞
Thank you for your timely encouragement, Chantal. I had a day last week where I was questioning myself on letting my hair go natural but then I started thinking about what my hair would like if I dyed it again and I wasn't happy with that mental picture either. I'm just going to stay the course!
@@grayexpectations5686 that's the great thing about all this isn't it? Once we grow it out and we don't like it we can color it again but I'm pretty sure that you are going to fall in love with what God gave you. ❤️
This was great!! I’m 7 months into the journey and going strong! I love your hairstyle ideas since I’m a ponytail girl all the way!! Thank you for this!🙏And definitely keep going- it looks great!!!!
Happy to hear you like the hairstyle ideas and are going strong at 7 months in! I'm definitely a pony tail girl too. I know very few people letting their hair go natural, so I really appreciate the encouragement! Some days I really need it.
Like you, I thought that “part” technique was genius. Also like you, I did it once but then realized it would just be better to embrace the transition and go cold turkey. I regretted doing that technique for the longest time. I’ve been dye free since 2018. It took me 2 years to grow it out to shoulder length and I love it. It’s so freeing and my hair is healthier and thicker 😊
Hi Rena, it's so nice to hear from someone that started on this journey on the same path as me! It's also very encouraging to hear that you like the end result. I really can't wait to get to your stage. Sometimes my progress feels really slow and your positive message is just what I needed to hear. 😀
Your natural color is so beautiful! And you are stunning! I have just had my first gray hairs and will continue to embrace my natural color. There are days when it feels difficult but my husband supports me. The ecological aspect is very important to both of us and we try to avoid using unnecessary chemicals.
Hi Fortuna, I share your concern for the chemicals we are exposed to with hair dye and also the impact of the whole dyeing process on the environment. It's so great that your husband is supportive because as you say, some days are difficult. Your support means a lot to me; we can do this together! 🥰
Hi Adele, it's so nice to hear from others who are also on this journey. I don't really know anyone in my community currently letting their hair go natural. We can do this together. 😍
Hi Lisa! It's so great to be on this journey with you. We all need a little encouragement from time to time and your lovely comment gave me a boost today! Thank you! 🥰
Hi from England. I have just started to embrace my grey . My hair is a little shorter than yours but much thinner! I will try some of the styles that you have shown. Thanks for doing this, I will now watch your next video.
Hi Christine! So nice hear from a silver sister from the UK and to receive your message. Embracing the grey is definitely a process. Doing simple hairstyles helps take the focus off my tri -color hair. I'm not as self conscious now as it's been a year but some days I feel impatient to have it all grown out. So nice to have your company on this journey. 🤩
Thank you for your video keep going.....it looks lovely..Just started mine 1 month in with longer hair I find my pattern is like yours ... To silver sisters!❤
You are lovely. Love the silver. God's word tells us grayheadedness is a crown 👑 of beauty. You look wise and beautiful. I'm two years no color. 61. And just now at the temple area and a few silver strands in front.
Hi Lisa! I've been doing that side braid for a very long time. I do like the way the 3 colors of hair are all interwoven and it helps take the focus off the growth line. I'm very happy to share my journey with you! 🥰
Hi Amanda, Thank you so much! I especially love hearing from silver sisters because I don't know many personally. The support on TH-cam has been fantastic! 🥰
I want to thank you for being candid with your process. I tried awhile back, but my husband doesn't want me to go gray. He said it makes me look old and haggard. I wish he supported me in my desire to stop coloring. I'm 56 now and I'm so tired of coloring. It's hard enough going gray, but when your closest doesn't support you, it delays my decision. Thank you for sharing, Michelle S.
Hi Michelle, thank you for sharing your feelings about letting your hair go natural and ditching the dye. Honestly, this process isn't always easy; I have days when I doubt myself and feel that I'm not looking my best with 3 different shades of hair going on. I agree it would be very hard to do this without the support of your nearest and dearest and I support you for delaying your decision. I'm here for you. 🥰
Your hair is so gorgeous. I’m on the same path…it’s been 3months since I stopped colouring… My hair pattern is not as good as yours, it’s more grey… but I’m planning to stick on ! Loved the styles you showed….sadly my hair is rather thin and wispy…but want to give a try with those styles.. Thanks so much…your journey is very inspirational ! Thanks
Hi Lek! Sorry to be so late in responding to your lovely message. I'm glad you enjoyed the styles that I'm doing and feel inspired by my journey. I feel inspired knowing that you too are on this journey. It's so interesting that everyone's gray pattern is different. I was a bit self conscious about the white that I have at the front, but I like it more and more. You may like yours more as it grows out. It does take some getting used to after so many years of dying my hair. You're doing great at 3 months in!
Hi Erin! Thank you for the feedback on my video and nice to hear that we share "fluffy" hair. I find the hot rollers really settle my hair down and make it more manageable.
Your hair is great it looks fabulous I am just doing the same now I am 6 months in I did enjoy your video clip for sure thanks for that it was very encouraging for me I would love to see upcoming clips ❤
Hi Giovanna! Thank you for your encouraging comments. 6 months is great progress! Honestly, I think the first few months are the hardest, when it doesn't quite look intentional yet. I think the journey gets easier over time, so hang in there! I'll be posting my update video very soon and look forward to your comments. 🥰
You look beautiful in your transition! I will also be going back to gray for the second and final time. I am so grateful to be able to reach this time in my life. Thanks for all the tips.
Thank you so much for your support. Some days are hard and I've had times when I've thought of reaching for the dye but I know in my heart, I would immediately regret it. Congratulations on your journey. We can support one another. 🤩
I absolutely love the video you made, i am trying to grow out my very white hair, my hair has been very thin and sparse in the front, my white hair is coming out very ugly, but i have decided to go cold turkey, please give some pointers thank you !!! You look beautiful !!!
Hi Rachel, thank you for your lovely comments. This journey is challenging at times and it really helps if you have support along the way. We're all in this together! Some people notice fine, new hairs growing in once they stop using dye, maybe you will see that happening over time. You've got this!
Really: You have great hair, it looks very good and your natural color suits you. AND your appearance is very young (your sister too). And your men are right to support you on your gray journey! 🤍🧓🐩👍
You are gorgeous! I love your attitude about being gray. Your hairstyles are so fun and she doesn’t matter. Have you seen the crazy hairstyles and colors these days?🤣 I just checked and I last died my hair blonde April 2022. It’s a slow journey and what’s amazing is no one notices I’m very silver! I’ve been dying my hair since I was 16 and I’m 56 now. I saw a pic of a woman who was gray and she was so gorgeous with silver hair I told myself I’m done dying my hair! I wanted silver hair. It’s only grown out about 4-5 inches in the last 9 months and I could cut my hair short, but instead I’m just cutting the length every couple months so there’s not so much blonde. What’s crazy is I could only see the front and assumed I was more silver all over but the back is brown! I’ve never had brown hair! I was always a dirty blonde or more red. From behind I now have an hombre look and everyone loves it. From the front when I’m in the sun you only see a blonde. It’s just kind of a crazy adventure. I live in Northern California and we have snow so wearing beanie caps and you never see the grow out. I’m so excited to be fully done and will enjoy the silver. Can’t wait to see you all grown out! God bless!
Thank you for sharing your journey so far! You're doing great! I agree that seeing photos of other silver sisters can be very inspiring, especially on those days when the journey seems long and lonely. It's very interesting to see how the silver pattern emerges; everyone's hair is so different. Like you, I have very dark hair at the back, which is way darker than I ever had. Such a surprise....
Your hair is amazing! I'm 63 soon & the hairdresser said my hair is about 65 percent grey now & I've been thinking hard about whether to let it grow out or to keep getting it coloured. It's such a scary thought that i feel like I'm losing my youth. I'm still bad that it's the 1st thing i notice on someone else & even my hubby is all grey with the remainder of his hair. My hairdresser who is about 10 yrs younger than me says she's growing hers out & that she's so excited to have grey hair. I didn't believe it! Am I vain? That's what i think other people must think of me. But it's actually an age thing, not getting old & hanging on to my youth. I know it will happen one day & mentally gave myself a timeline of doing it at 70. I have fibromyalgia & am mostly bed ridden & can't really get out the door & have had to cancel my last 2 appts so the grey regrowth is a few inches now & it would actually be the perfect time to just leave it growing out which is easier for me & getting out of the house problem. Anyway thanx for your video & understanding this situation. Like i said your hair is very beautiful & thanx for your courage 🙏
So nice to hear from you Ida! 🤩 I completely relate to your feelings about not wanting to look old. Honestly, I wish I had done this years ago because in some ways, I think it's easier to accept gray hair when you still look youthful. I agree that going gray is associated with aging and for me, the adjustment to accepting my natural hair color was almost as much mental as physical. I thought about doing this for about a year before I actually took action and thinking about this now, allows you time to process your feelings. 70 might be the right time for you! I found the first few months quite hard because I didn't like the 3 colors of hair that I had going on. Some days are easier than others and with time, I question my decision less. I'm happy to support you when and if you're ready! Thank you for your message.
This video is beautifully done and your a beautiful woman either way! I think you hit every single feeling I have while trying to decide. I also talked it over with my husband and my sons and they just didn't seem to think it was a big deal either way! lol Men! lol My worry is I'm a late in life mom and I do look considerably younger than my friends. My children are the age of their grandchildren! I am the only one of us who is considering going grey and I am the youngest of my group. So.... am I going to get duff from them is my concern. lol And so many people comment how I dont look my age, will the grey stop those comments? My grey is the beautiful white like yours. All my female lineage have snow white hair. Thank you for doing this video!
Hi Krista, thank you so much for your lovely comments and for sharing your concerns about going gray. I relate so much to you because I was and older Mom too. I'll be very honest and say that sometimes it's hard and I still have days when I feel a bit wobbly with my decision. I know I can always dye my hair again but if I do it on impulse, I'm also pretty sure that I will immediately regret it. There are so many layers to the decision of going natural and accepting this drastic change. Going gray is different for men because our society looks at gray haired men much differently than gray haired women. It's still really great that your husband and your sons are supportive of the idea, because not everyone has that support! 🥰Mulling over the concerns and fears that you have about being a gray haired woman in our society is all part of the process. This may not be the right time for you, YET! But when and if you do decide to stop dyeing your hair, you will still be beautiful. You will still get compliments on how you look but maybe for a different reason, because your rockin' your gray hair!🔥💃
Love this video! I have tried home remedies to tone down my dyed auburn hair. I'm about 10 weeks in. Just got asked if I was letting myself go. I said "Yes! I'm letting myself go gray." 😂
That was a great come back!! I'm letting myself go gray too! but in general, I feel like I'm putting a bit more effort into myself to compensate. Some days I find the 3 colors of hair a bit hard to take but then I remind myself that I had "bad hair days" when I dyed my hair too! 10 weeks is great progress! We've got this!
Love this video. I’ve been coloring my hair for a little over a year and trying to decide now whether to keep it up or go natural! My hair is brunette with blonde highlights and grey! Most days I’m happy with it, some days not…your hair looks great. Thank you for sharing this video.
I'm 53 I stopped s Dyeing my hair at 49. I'm really happy about it. I have mainly grey in my temples that's not noticeable but I have many strands throughout my hair too . I call it tinsel .
I love that you call your grey/silver hair tinsel; it sounds so pretty and sparkly! Congratulations on being dye free for 4 years! I can't wait to be on the other side of this journey with you. 🥰
Last year i realized i was sick of my fine hair....being stuck in a ponytail, although it was just under chin length. I had it cut twice...once in July and the other in October. Not what i wanted, so i buzzed it off with clippers and left the top longer.....just what i wanted!!! Also, i was dying my hair so i would cover the greys. When i buzzed it off, it kinda made my mind up for me.....just let it be!!!!! Its salt and pepper on the sides now, on top is almost my natural colour plus a little grey growing in. Ive never felt better about myself or my hair!!!!
Hi Helen, it's so interesting and exciting to see the white pattern emerge. Sometimes I have to do a double take in the mirror because I don't recognize myself but I'm leaning into it. 🤩
I just want to say your hair is very beautiful. My first thought when I saw you was you remind me of that beautiful classy lady, Catherine Deneuve. Your hair is coming in beautifully striking!!!
Hi Mary! Thank you so much for your encouragement and positive comments. I'm trying to "'go gray gracefully" but some days I really doubt myself because I know I'm not looking my best with 3 colors of hair going on. I don't have any close friends on this journey, so your support means a lot to me. 💐
Thx so much for your comments, Shelley. Some days are harder than others but I try to remind myself that I had bad hair days when I dyed my hair too. The process is slow and I'm feeling a little impatient at times. Taking it day by day...
All my blonde hair dominated my hairstyle and after a yr of grow out, i still couldnt see my silver. A few wks ago I cut the blonde off and created a shag. Its pretty fun being pure silver. I already see my hair getting healthier and growing faster. Its pretty fun.
You are so brave to cut your hair into a shag! It's great that you're enjoying being pure silver and that your hair is so much healthier. I can't wait to join in the fun of being silver! 🌻
@@grayexpectations5686 I guess I figured theres only one way to know what gray looks like on me so might as well give it a go! I truly am amazed at how fast my hair is now growing compared to 30 yrs of dying it.....wow. I keep remembering when I was a pre-teen and at that time my hair grew fast like this - so its really an interesting experience. I dont miss the hair dye on my scalp which gave me headaches and I have no concerns about what anyone thinks. The whole process is pure freedom;-) Worth the awkward stages for sure.
when I saw how pretty my silver hair was coming in I couldnt wait, and for some reason the blonde started to disappear even from the ends? a little here and there but mostlty silver, love it,
Hi Joan, I'm so pleased to hear that you love your silver hair. It's so interesting that most ppl love their natural hair, yet so many of us have dyed it for years. When I hear how much you love your natural hair, it makes me excited to get mine fully grown out! 🤩
in the last year before I quit coloring mine, my skin would get really red and irritated when I colored it.. so I decided to quit. September 2016 I had it cut off to about 2 inches. I let it grow. My profile picture shows what it looked like last year before I cut it all off again... It was the prettiest it has ever been in my life. It began thinning after I had a horrible accident and has not recovered, so I though a short cut would look better.. but I miss the long hair. The texture is different too.
Hi Annie, I'm so sorry to hear about your accident and I hope you're getting stronger and healthier each day. Your long hair was beautiful but the shorter cut also really suits you. 🤩
Thx Eve, I sure hope I like it when it's all grown out. Like many things, we are our own worst critics and when I see photos of others on this journey, they make it look so easy! Some days are hard but I feel I have time on my side being over 1/2 way through the process. I really appreciate your encouraging words. 🥰
Great video. Love hearing about your going grey journey. I cut off my dyed blonds into a pixie a little over a year ago! My struggle is with the yellowing of my greys.
Thank you so much for your comments. I love your pixie cut! It really suits you. So far, my gray shampoo seems to be keeping my gray hair bright and I haven't noticed any yellowing. I understand yellowing can be caused from a build up of hair products or heat damage from the sun or heated styling tools. I wonder why some people experience this more than others. It does seem that very light gray and white hair is more prone to yellowing.
@@grayexpectations5686 Thank you ☺️…my Mother & others have said yellowing is genetic 🤷🏼♀️… my grandmother’s definitely yellowed & she didn’t heat style. I am using Fanola (sparingly) and the new purple gloss conditioner by PUROLOGIE (which isn’t as deeply pigmented) on a more regular basis … cool hairdryer setting always… but if I’m not careful (even using heat protectants etc) it goes yellow. Honestly I undecided if I’ll stay Grey with all the extra work lol 😂
@@beyond50skin That's very interesting that your Mom and others have told you that yellowing is genetic. You've got me thinking because if that's the case, I may have some yellowing once my hair is fully grown out. My Dad has white hair and he's experienced yellowing. He has definitely never used heated styling tools on his hair! Lol. I understand gray hair can be high maintenance. I'm still new to this process and I haven't ruled out highlights/lowlights or coloring my hair in the future either. I just hope that if I do, I keep it closer to my natural color so that it's not such an ordeal to grow out.
I met someone that uses purple shampoo (leaving on her hair for close to an hour each time) to add a lilac tint to the white. I envy it and hope to emulate as I grow out mine. we'll see if it works!
That's the thing. I went gray 15 yrs ago. Loved it however what happens is you keep getting grayer and grayer. My hair changed to almost completely white. Didn't look good anymore. So after 15 yrs I colored it again. I'm in my 70's. And I literally look so much younger. My skin is bright again. And I feel like me again. My daughter who is 50 has beautiful gray hair.
Hi GG! Thank you for sharing your experience. I totally hear what you're saying. Nothing is set in stone and obviously you made the right choice for yourself when you decided to dye your hair again. As you said, "you feel like yourself again!" What could be more important? Who knows, I may one day decide to dye my hair again too.
Thanks so much Beth! As I'm now at my 1 year mark, it's definitely getting easier to look in the mirror but I have days where I'm not loving my look. I find doing simple hairstyles really helps me not to focus on the three colors that I have going on.
Hi Chantal, I'm feeling that way right now too! I knew this would be a slow process but some days I look in the mirror and it seems nothing is happening.
Great video and so easy to watch . I started the gray journey 6 weeks ago and I’m ok with it except for the brassy / reddish highlights. I absolutely hate it . I bought blue shampoo (my hair is dark brown) and it didn’t do much . Do you think purple shampoo would work to tone down the brassiness of my hair . I sure would like your opinion. Thank you
Thank you so much Karla, but I have to admit, I'm struggling at the moment. This process seems to be taking so long and I'm tired of my tri-color hair. Some days, I force myself to put a little extra effort into my appearance so that I feel better about how I look. Today is one of those days! Your support came at the perfect time! 🥰
Thank you for the hair styling ideas. I stopped coloring about 2 months ago and loving it so far. I got tired of hiding my natural hair. My face looks younger now when I do not have the brassy blond framing my face. Most of us feel vulnerable going grey. I think it is because we have been convinced that grey=old=frail. But we are not frail and old, we are in our 30s, 40s, 50s. I blame hair products industry for implanting this horrible concept that women should cover their grey hair. Sorry, but f… that. I want to see myself as I am growing and then grow old:). Seeing the pattern in my hair is like getting a present every morning I look at myself in the mirror. I started caring for my skin and my body more. My solution to minimize the transition is to cool off my brassy tones with overtone silver color conditioner (not blue shampoo and conditioner). I did not want to cut my hair to avoid unnecessary stress. Giving up the “color” and length seemed too much. The downside of my experience is that I had to upgrade my wardrobe and makeup. I hope to finish my shopping spree with the lip liner tomorrow and then look at my bank account to stimulate my growing silver process 😂.
Hi Anna, we are in total alignment on our views about gray hair. 🥰It's so great that you are loving your hair since you started growing it out. I found it quite hard at first but I'm feeling stronger and more committed as time passes. Since I started letting my natural color come through, I've noticed more and more women doing the same and I love that! I agree that the hair dye industry has imposed a lot of negativity on women going gray and there is definitely a double standard regarding men going gray vs women. Hopefully we will change that over time as more and more strong, amazing women let their hair go natural. On the wardrobe front, I've noticed that my previous "go to colors" don't necessarily look great with my new hair color, so I'm paying more attention to that. Hopefully things will even out on the financial side but certainly it's win/win over time!
Thank you so much! My hair does feel healthy but at times it can be a little dry, so I'm using extra conditioner, which really helps. I'm really looking forward to having my hair all grown out; I can't wait to see what it looks like! 🥰
Hello! I'm only 2 months in. Question... Would you do the dye strip routine again, if you had it to do over? Or, would you just go cold turkey?? You look beautiful! I can't wait until my silver "crown" is showing! ❤️🌹🙂
Hi Marilyn, that is such a great question. Honestly, I don't think I would do the dye strip technique again because I feel like it delayed my progress a little bit. I was self conscious about my roots showing for the first couple of months and that's why I did it. For me, the first 2-3 months were the hardest. Since you are already 2 months in, which is fantastic btw, I would just go cold turkey. It only gets easier from here! But if you are feeling a bit of a wobble and think this would help you stay the course, it's definitely an option.
Hello. I am sitting here watching your video as it popped up in my suggestions. I'm thinking how pretty you are and I realize, "Oh my goodness, she looks like my mother would have looked if she got to grow older!". Yes, my mother passed away at 31. She was elegant and beautiful. I am growing mine out now at 60. I love it and want to hurry up and grow it all out! But it's feeling so slow🙄😉
Thank you for your lovely comments and I'm very honored that I remind you of your Mom. A lot of ppl have told me that I look more like my Mom with my natural hair, and I see that too. There's definitely something about this journey and embracing our age that connects us to our Moms. I'm so pleased that you love your hair so far. Like you, I want to hurry up this process and get it all grown out. Some days I feel very impatient. It's special that we have each other for company along the way. 🥰
@@grayexpectations5686 Do you still have your mom? I look like my dad(unfortunately 🙄😁😉) but I thankfully inherited my mother's forehead. As I get older I notice I'm starting to resemble my mom's mom.
@@Cat-qo3ht Hi Cat, sadly my Mom passed away almost 6 years ago. I love seeing little glimpses of my Mom in myself and in my siblings; it's a beautiful reminder of my Mom. 🥰
@@grayexpectations5686 Oh, I'm so sorry you lost your dear mom💔💔💔 She must have been a beautiful person inside and out. 🌺🌺🌺 You were blessed to have her all these years. But death is certainly an enemy.
Hi Zelda. I know not everyone can French braid but I've noticed there are lots of videos on youtube for beginner French braiders. It's easier to French braid someone else's hair in the beginning for sure.
You were a trailblazer when you went grey! 5 Years ago, there weren't as many ppl letting their hair go natural. I hope you love your grey. Mine is still evolving. I'm looking forward to cutting more and more of the old brown dyed hair off as time progresses.
Yay Kay! I love hearing from others that are also on this journey because I personally don't know anyone in my community currently doing this. Let's keep doing this together! 🥰
@@grayexpectations5686 I was sick with COVID19 , in august, and the last thing I cared about was my hair. It started growing out and I like it. Now I have long covid, but getting better. Still loving my grey.
Thank you! Making this video was great fun. I really appreciate the support from everyone who left messages. It's really helped keep my on track, especially on the days when I'm feeling weighed down with 3 colors of hair.
Let me know when you try for number 11! In the meantime, thank you so much for your support. You understand fist hand the challenges of this journey! 🥰
Hi Cindy, that's a great questions. Some ppl say it's because we notice the grays at our temples and front of our head first because they're easiest for us to see. Others say it's because those hairs are finer and more subject to stress from puling it back when grooming or little habits such as twirling the hair or resting your head in your hand. I'm sure there's a study out there somewhere!! Based on personal experience from ppl in my extended family, I would say our first grays were definitely at the temples. I'm go back and forth between embracing them and not!
You really are very very pretty. The grey looks great on you ❤️
I just started my transition - I’m almost 70 and have been dying my hair for decades so it’s a bit scary, but I’m learning so much from all the beautiful women posting about their own experiences with transitioning. Thank you for sharing your styling tips, that’s extremely useful! You look lovely and I’m looking forward to seeing more about your hair journey over time.
I’ve been wanting to stop dying for years. I NEED videos like yours so thank you! Your hair is gorgeous 🤍🤍🤍
Thank you for your lovely comments Jill! I thought about letting my hair go natural for a while before I took the plunge too. Let's do this together!
I love the hair! You are so pretty! This is giving me more confidence to embrace my natural grays.
Silversister girl tribe on here!!
Gorgeous hair and you are stunning!!!!
Good luck! You will love it
I'm excited to get to where you are! I share your experience with being tired of chasing the gray line. I really hope I love it!
You gave me some fantastic suggestions on different ways to wear and style my hair! I love love love the braid band ❤. Great advice! Great video!
The white front makes you look younger.. can you believe it❤😋
Thank you for sharing your video beautiful and well done !!!!
Thx so much Mary! I really appreciate your message.
The "Shea Moisture" brand line ( from Amazon or CVS Pharmacy)
has kept my hair very healthy it is my essential must have shampoo/ conditioner & mask .
This process if done in a salon it runs into the $hundreds ,
I buy little by little and once I have products on hand I just wait until I feel it needs to refresh & brighten up.
Hi Charity! Thank you for your lovely comments and encouragement. I'm glad we're on this journey together.
"I am happy to look my age"!! Yes! I love it. It's so authentic!!
Thx so much Kristen! Honestly there is a lot about this process that "keeps it real!!" 💞
Gurrrl look at you ! I love this, I’m not as grey in the front yet… but it is trending like yours as in back I have no greys. I have no idea what to expect. I really loved
the braids, I am no longer doing permanent coloring as it is too damaging and was affecting my scalp so I do semi and it gives my greys a golden shade.
Love,love,love all the braids!
Great video!! Loved the hairstyles! Can't wait to see your 1 year progress.
Thx so much for your positive comments, Teionnea. I really can't wait to get to my 1 year mark! That feels like such a milestone and it's definitely attainable.
Beautiful. I am 10 months in. Thank you for the great advice.
Excellent video with great, practical advice! The hairstyles you showed were fantastic. Your hair looks beautiful and is growing out wonderfully. Bless you for this video and your encouragement.
Thx so much for your lovely comments and encouragement Linda. I really appreciate your feedback.
Your hair is beautiful and very different.❤ I enjoyed this video and your personality is very welcoming.
Amazing hair styles. You look beautifull! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for your encouraging words, Vera. Honestly, sometimes this journey is long and I can get impatient with my progress. Trying to stay the course.
Your video was refreshing and so helpful. Love your hair and your attitudes
Thx so much Ajean! I really appreciate your positive comments. Some days, I feel a little blah about how slow this journey is, and I really appreciate the encouragement! 💞
You have great hair. Once it grows out it's going to look really fabulous and you are going to love it!
@@grayexpectations5686 believe me, there were days when I felt like my hair was growing BACKWARDS! Hahahahahaha!

You are lovely. Love the silver. God's word tells us grayheadedness is a crown 👑 of beauty. You look wise and beautiful. I'm two years no color. 61. And just now at the temple area and a few silver strands in front.
The side braid looks great😁 Thank you for your tips and time spent sharing your journey😊
Hi Lisa! I've been doing that side braid for a very long time. I do like the way the 3 colors of hair are all interwoven and it helps take the focus off the growth line. I'm very happy to share my journey with you! 🥰
Love finding new silversisters on here!!!! I subscribed of course!!!
Thank you for sharing,
Michelle S.

I think the journey gets easier over time, so hang in there! I'll be posting my update video very soon and look forward to your comments. 🥰
You look beautiful in your transition!
I will also be going back to gray for the second and final time. I am so grateful to be able to reach this time in my life.

I'm 53 I stopped s
Dyeing my hair at 49.
Hi Fab hockey fan! I'm so please to hear you're happy with your hair and feeling good about yourself. Your natural hair sounds perfect for you! 🤩
I’m 50, red head, started going white in temples and parting now , intrigued as I age with it
Hi Helen, it's so interesting and exciting to see the white pattern emerge.
You look amazing and so does your hair and hairstyles X luvit ❤️👍🙏thank you x
You'll be happy you did it.i love my hair now
in the last year before I quit coloring mine, my skin would get really red and irritated when I colored it.. so I decided to quit.
Your hair is going to be gorgeous when it’s grown out and it looks great now too!
@@grayexpectations5686 I look forward to watching your journey.
@@beyond50skin Thank you! I'm now realizing why many refer to this a journey! Lol
What a lovely woman you are..thank you! Your hair and styles look great too.
Thx so much for the positive comments Deborah! I really appreciate it; some days I really need the encouragement.
@@grayexpectations5686 my pleasure! It’s all true and I know what you mean.
Merci pour votre vidéo from Paris :) Thank you very much for you video =)
I love that picture of you and franklin! You're grey/white hair will be very pretty if you decide to make the healthy hair choice.
Hi Becky, I'm still on the journey and feeling very determined. My hair does feel really healthy and I don't miss my salon appointments one bit!! 🥰
You look fantastic!!! No worries =)
Thanks so much Beth! As I'm now at my 1 year mark, it's definitely getting easier to look in the mirror but I have days where I'm not loving my look. I find doing simple hairstyles really helps me not to focus on the three colors that I have going on.
The hardest part for me was at about 10-12 months. It felt like my hair stopped growing for a time. Drove me nuts.
Thank you
I really like the twisting hairstyle.
Thx Margaret. The twisting is so easy and looks quite neat.
Your hair is beautiful!
Hopefully things will even out on the financial side but certainly it's win/win over time!
your hair is so thick and healthy!!

Oh I wish I could French braid my hair!
Hi Zelda. I know not everyone can French braid but I've noticed there are lots of videos on youtube for beginner French braiders. It's easier to French braid someone else's hair in the beginning for sure.
Yes ❤
My thoughts were the same as yours when I went very 5 years ago
You were a trailblazer when you went grey! 5 Years ago, there weren't as many ppl letting their hair go natural. I hope you love your grey. Mine is still evolving. I'm looking forward to cutting more and more of the old brown dyed hair off as time progresses.
I’m doing it, too!
I really enjoyed your video
Thank you! Making this video was great fun. I really appreciate the support from everyone who left messages. It's really helped keep my on track, especially on the days when I'm feeling weighed down with 3 colors of hair.
You look amazing.
Thanks so much Sharmini! Some days it's hard but I'm pushing through. 🥰
I want all white so I'm going to wait a little bit longer and try an 11th.time later LOL friend Connie
Let me know when you try for number 11! In the meantime, thank you so much for your support. You understand fist hand the challenges of this journey! 🥰
Looks nice actually
Why does the front of our hair go gray first?
Hi Cindy, that's a great questions. Some ppl say it's because we notice the grays at our temples and front of our head first because they're easiest for us to see. Others say it's because those hairs are finer and more subject to stress from puling it back when grooming or little habits such as twirling the hair or resting your head in your hand. I'm sure there's a study out there somewhere!! Based on personal experience from ppl in my extended family, I would say our first grays were definitely at the temples. I'm go back and forth between embracing them and not!
Beautiful
Thank you so much Missy Rose! 🥰
You sound like me.. i even used the same blonde brand..
