    Looking at old photos of
    when I was younger,
    I was stunningly beautiful
    & yet I felt ugly & lost & was
    very self destructive in
    my ignorance .
    Now my spacesuit is a
    little worn wrinkled &
    fading in places, & yet
    I have never felt such
    Potential as I feel now.
    Alive & aware.

    SAME!! had a consult for color 2 weeks passed and instead of taking my hair highlights down 2 levels she took it down to totally stripped white my Virgin hair. Outcome dry as hell, fried hair. Condition is everything for me. It's been 1 year growing out so far and would not let bleach touch my hair again! I strongly suggest anyone having their hair dyed gets a basic understanding as it's the key words for hair stylists. I wish I could turn back the clock but for sure no matter what anyone says, I will be ignoring the "You would look ten years younger with your hair dyed." Oh and your hair grows fast. I am the same age and my hair is growing 5 inches at most in a year. I also have long hair.

      It's good for others to read the comments before going to the salon, so they get a good view of the possibilities of what can happen. Oh, the lessons we learn through these moments. Yes, I get it. For some, hair does not grow that quickly. Hang in there, you'll get your long beautiful hair back in good condition!

    I wouldn’t normally comment but you did ask for opinions so I think that if you were to take some of the length off, not so much that it doesn’t feel long but some of the length that isn’t adding to your style, then you will feel that you are further on your journey and your natural grey will start to dominate. The buttons on your outfit are a great place to use for the longest part of your hair and some layers around your face, nothing shorter than a few cm’s lower than your chin would be really wonderful with your shape face. When you showed the back of your hair you can see some of the deeper, steel grey tones that will start to show through and it is going to be so gorgeous. You have the type of grey hair that people say “wow, I wish my hair would look like that!”.

      I love the length -- the hair is healthy, the curls in the ends look especially beautiful and playful. "The longer, the better" adds even more to her so elegant appesrance. Just my two cents... :)

      no don't- the length is beautiful. Just use a Demi silver to keep the cool tone & not turn your naturals brassy.

    Wow that’s a great color, you are beautiful. Your voice on chick hatch attracted me. You don’t disappoint. My granny used to be a beautician in the ‘40’s. She advised me to focus on the temples if lightening. When your hair is half up, your temple area is maybe a little under done. DONT CUT! Only jealous people tell you to cut. I love you, I want the very best for you. Quit while you’re ahead.

      Wow, thank you! Ladies from that era had some fantastic ideas about styling from hair, to fashion, and etiquette. When I was very young I knew my hair would always be long, and that I liked the classic look. I once cut my hair in my early 20's when I modelled at a hair show. I couldn't wait for it to grow back. It's never been an option since. At this point I'm waiting for the whole grow out process to be completed O'natural. You may enjoy another one of my videos on the retro wardrobe. I'll be doing an updated one soon. :)

    Lovely hat! You scared me... Then when I saw your hair I was relieved! Looks a lot better than your last video 100%
    I started my grow out for a second time for 4 months and in the end I gave up. At least for now. I love gray hair but the transition is hard.
    I'm glad you are doing well 😊

      Thank you so much!! It's been a process. Yes, it is easy to get started but it's getting over that mid-point transition that becomes the challenge. For those who have shorter-length hair of course it goes faster. Long hair transition is the long haul. I found putting my hair up at that mid-point stage really helped me get through... which was months and months of undo's. Hang in there. Glad you hung in there with me!

    Minute 20:00 and following is absolutely model-like. Your long, flowing hair really is "the big thing" for this look --- when you turned around, the beautiful curls almost fell down to your waist, so beautiful and so sophisticated. Have a wonderful time, and happy hairgrowing, this gorgeous silver mane just gets even more beautiful the longer it gets.

      Thank you! Yes, black dyed hair would be more difficult to remove without damaging the hair. This is the challenge when transitioning. Finding ways to style it up during this grow out stage will help you get through this stage. French braid, undo's, hats, ponytails, are all helpful. I created some hair style videos to help in the process. Let me know how you make out!

      It's really easy to bend to going to the salon. You think they know best or get what you're wanting. This is what happened, even after I had a thorough consultation interview. I wish I would have bleaches it out myself and sought to another route. I'm a year and half now past that time and my hair is slowly getting to what I want. Now it's just a matter of cutting out the bleach. This is easy enough to handle. Can't wait for it to be over. In the meantime I try to make the process bearable. Stay posted... new videos are coming!

    This color looks so much more natural. Didn’t like the salon look at all. I am transitioning now for about 11 month. Had salon do what yours did but I wouldnt let her touch my gray area. Dyed my hair dark brown for yrs before I started transitioning. She tried to bleach my hair about 4 times to get to level 9 to add gray toner. Never got it higher than 8. Then she also put steel grey toner on and it was too dark. And my hair started to break off in front. So no more toner or bleach I am in process of getting my hair healthy again. Just letting it grow out now. Glad yours finally worked for you. I like it a lot.

      Yes, I was so pleased to be through it. Still waiting for the final cutting off of the bleached part as it grows out. I lost my trust with the salon messing with the transition. Not worth risk but it was a learned lesson I hope others take note of. I'm glad to hear you're on the way with your grow out. It'll be so nice when this stage is over! Haha!

    I should have added that I am at about the 2" stage. Beginner. But have found a referral from a girl at Sally's Beauty by phone and called and finally went out and she was not there the lady she mentioned, but I talked to a girl and she took a picture of my dark brown box colored hair with roots starting to grow out and the very sweet lady called me back at home I guess after receiving the picture and she is going to try and help me THANK YOU JESUS! So I have been waiting for more root growth and I text her from time to time to let her know I haven't forgot, I'm just waiting on more root growth. I am excited. You hair HONESTLY looks much better after you did all the things you did on this video. It looks really pretty. You look beautiful. God Bless You. The first video hair dresser that looked good also, but I do understand that WE want grey right now LOL. She done a great job on your hair and you did a great job also. Between the 2 colors her hair job and your hair job I like both but yours is more subtle. Looks Lovely. I hope I get that lucky.

    Just the video I needed. Thank you for sharing your trial and error in both of your videos. You have given me some things to consider while going through this process. I was thinking about going to Sally's also and talking to someone to see if there was something I could use to help blend the colors or at least make my transition a little easier. My hair is long also and has been growing out for a year now. So I am at the point of no return as far as I am concerned. Otherwise the last year would have been all in vain. So moving forward you have given me some ideas that I hope will benefit my journey. Thank you.

    I love your hair and was shook when you were at the salon, I just knew that's not what you were wanting. I am on my journey and am where you were when you went to the salon. You did an amazing job doing it yourself with advice from the beauty supply, great job! I am curious on the up keep since it's been a few months. I've been researching Overtone coloring conditioners. They have pastel, vibrant and extreme, I've been thinking of using all three to give some great depth, but still researching and will probably let it grow out naturally. I just have those moments of impatience and frustration. You are an absolutely beautiful, classy and inspiring woman. I've really enjoyed your videos. Thank you for sharing your journey. Hope to see another update when it all grows out, curious to see, I know it will be absolutely gorgeous!

    Thank you so much for documenting your grey hair journey. I can't tell you how many times I wanted to go and get my yellow/orange old hair blended by a professional colorist. But I was scared to ruin my grey grow out. Your experience and another youtuber who went to Jack Martin convinced me not to touch my hair. I've learned toner has bleach in it and will leave hair yellow. Also, because grey hair is so porous, it sucks up any color you put on even temporary color. I love your look.

    • @therenaissancewoman2080
      @therenaissancewoman2080  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Oh, I'm so glad this has been helpful!! That is the point of my video! When we are in process it's a guess all along the way. Until at last it's all grown out. The struggle is real! It's not just a hair grow out it's also the psychology around it. How we feel, those moments we feel like bailing out, those moments we feel like cutting it all off or going back to dying it. Ugh... it is a journey! It's so important to feel good along the journey. To do what is reasonable and even sometimes a risk to look good and feel good. Everyone wants to feel beautiful and maintain that feel good through the process and beyond. Glad it's helped.

      I think a lot of women feel their grey washes them out and just doesn't work for them. If you feel better to dye your hair and don't mind the maintaining process, then you should. It's about feeling good in whatever process you choose.

  • @heidi_d
    @heidi_d 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Your hair looks the best it could possibly look during a grow out I think. I’m trying to decide how to do mine, and we have a similar pattern and hair type. I may do something similar by lightening the “old hair” as much as I can, but keep it toned through the process.

    • @therenaissancewoman2080
      @therenaissancewoman2080  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      When you have long hair and want to hold onto it this process takes longer. As you can see it's a long journey that takes you into moments of wonderings and curiosities. If you bleach out the old dye be so careful not to get it into your new grey growth or it will turn yellow too. It's still a process to keep toning it as it washes out but I find I can handle it knowing there is an end to it all. Just find what will work for you ;)

    Hi, this is Mary again, I responded the other day regarding your hair. I just went back and went to your video where you take your hat off and again IT IS BEAUTIFUL. I can't wait Like I mentioned. I keep mine clipped in a claw as it is long like yours, but when I look in the mirror I can see pretty good the grey by my ears and top of my head (more when down) the it is in the back behind my ears but my friend said that he did not see any in the back of my neck hardly at all but some. So I am seeing it soooo much more. I wish I understood the mathematical and color change etc....that goes with it. Have you ever watched Brad Mondo videos where he watches people try to cut, bleach etc..to their hair. I don't appreciate the language he uses, but it is really a hoot if yo want a good laugh at what people do on their own. The sad thing is, I would probably be on there if I tried on my own LOL. You look great I honestly mean that. My hair has really soaked the dark brown up and I tried all the ideas to use to try and get the color off myself So, I am just using different shampoos. I do use a cheap clarifying shampoo and conditioner if I use some mousse to help hold curls after hot rollers. Ok, just wanted to tell you again and I think you will be my inspiration through this journey by going back and watching you take off your hat. LOL very pretty again, you did a wonderful job. Hi Mary, Glad to hear you're feeling inspired. Going grey is such a process to journey through. It helps to get some insight to the possibilities of what can be done and what to avoid. For those of us who choose to hang on to the length it takes a little bit longer... but so worth it!

    I'm a big proponent of DIY. I've been cutting my own hair since covid, where I live it was costing me AU$130 (maybe US$90 or so) for a simple wash and cut so I've saved hundreds in the last four years. I don't trust hairdressers to do what i like, and at least if I get it wrong I only have myself to blame, but I'm really happy with my hair. Anyway I think your hair looks great, it's difficult to disguise the growout and I think you have done as good a job as can be done. I would be perfectly happy with that. My only question is how did you only bleach the dyed part at the back, or did you have help?

      Thank you, and great question. Be sure to watch the next video's. I agree, the salons charge a lot of money for simple wash and cut and when you do your own you are in control. I mostly trim my own hair until I need big cut and a pamper me day. For the bleach in the back I went to a supply store got good advice on bleaching myself and just bleached from the dyed part down. If you put bleach in the grey part (to feather it as the hairdresser suggests) the grey will turn yellow and really, to me, it's pointless because then you're waiting for that bleached out part (on your grey hair) to grow all out. Once you bleach out all the dye, and for me it took a couple of times to really lift the dye, then at least you're dealing with a base that can then be toned to a grey that matches. I have gone from the toner, to actual permanent dye. The toner barely lasted in the bleached out part after a couple of washes, so I used a permanent snowy grey color, which matches and works much better. Having said that, because everything has been stripped from the bleached part of my hair the color doesn't hold as long, so I put a protein solution in my hair, before colouring, so it will take the dye better. Now, the bleached part of my hair with the permanent dye holds longer, about 3 weeks, if I don't wash my hair too often and keep the water a little on the cooler side. Hope that helps to give you a gauge of what to expect. ;)

    I think it looks good. I have also been transitioning to grey, and I am afraid that toning with 20 volume developer will lift my natural grow out. What do you think?

      It will lift your natural grow out. The hairdresser bleached into my grey and salt and pepper area also and it lifted. I've used the violet toner with 20 volume and only gently feathered it into the grow out but it was fine.

    Don't forget to use purple shampoo once in a while, it will cancel out yellow tones.
