@@Steve-sg3uz You want to believe (or pretend to believe) that without a god to give them rules, atheists are monsters with no morality. But obviously this isn't the case. Most atheists, like most people of whatever belief, have a sense of morality that is born of the evolved trait of empathy along with their ability to reason.
Ignoring reality because it doesn't jibe with your beliefs does not speak well of your beliefs or your intelligence. And the reality is that there's nothing about atheism that stops one from being a moral person. History (along with this video) shows that having religious beliefs is much more likely to interfere with a person's natural tendency to be moral.

The theist within the institutions is the house slave that's willing to spread the other cheek and be a good little lap dog. Atheism isn't a religion, but atheism can attach to a religion. There are many naturalistic and humanistic religious organizations and even if the atheist is not attached to any of these, the dumb thing plays right into the sociopolitical mechanisms that allow collectivism two Rivers ugly head once again.

It's a legitimate question, just one that's been answered so many times that it has become tedious to those who have put the effort into thinking about it.
But some very deep results can come from asking simple questions. Much of fundamental mathematics started in exactly this way. Success comes from thinking about them rigorously, not just tossing off a "duh, it's obvious."
Why is murder and stealing wrong? Well, the correct question is: why is murder and stealing wrong TO HUMANS. Because it's not wrong to ALL species, is it? And that's an important clue to the answer.
It's wrong to our species because ours is a SOCIAL SPECIES. We have prosocial instincts. These turn out to be generally advantageous to our survival.
There's individual variation, of course, which means that we have some members of the species who are very caring and others who are what we call sociopathic. A considerable amount of our social organization exists to handle this variation and keep the group safe.
But if we were a different species, we might well have different rules of right and wrong..That means that morality is SUBJECTIVE. It depends on the subject.

    Couple of things:
    1. The word atheist is actually an adverb. I know it's used as a noun but it's composed of Greek and means 'a' (without) + 'theist' (God/desses).
    2. You can't prove a negative. IE- what's Ryan's 'scientific proof' there's no Loch Ness monster?
    3. The commandment 'thou shall not murder' is in the OT and that's where we find stories like the murder of the first born of Egypt, the flooding of the world, and how many times are the Israelites commanded to murder other tribes? Plus there's slavery, Lot gets drunk and has sex with his daughters, Jepthah sacrifices his daughter (even though some say it's just a cautionary tale, it's still reason to believe the scholars that say Israelites would occasionally sacrifice their children).
And there are other morally questionable stories I haven't mentioned.

    • @queuecee

It's not that they have a requirement to prove their innocence. At least for criminal cases in the US, they ARE presumed guilty. But if the prosecutor has evidence that shows that they are NOT innocent, then they DO have to rebut that.
For example, if they give an alibi, they have to show evidence to support that alibi. But if the prosecutor doesn't have a case, you are not required to show that alibi.
So it all depends on whether the prosecutor has evidence. If they don't have any, then you technically don't have to make any defense.

  • @dhwyll

It's the difference between "necessary" and "sufficient."
If I want to show that 2 + 2 ≠ 5, it would be *sufficient* to show that they equal 4, but it is not *necessary.* Observe:
    Assume 2 + 2 = 5
    Then, (2 + 2) - 2 = 5 - 2
    Thus, 2 + (2 - 2) = 5 - 2
    Thus, 2 + 0 = 5 - 2
    Thus, 2 = 3
Well, that's not right. Thus, or original assumption that 2 + 2 = 5 must be wrong.
Notice: I haven't shown what 2 + 2 actually equal. It is not necessary to show what they equal in order to show that they don't equal 5.
It would be sufficient to show that god doesn't exist in order to justify the claim that we don't have a good reason to believe in the existence of god, but it is not necessary. If the reasons given for belief show themselves to be lacking, then that's all that is necessary. That doesn't mean there isn't a god, but it does mean there isn't any reason to think there is.
As was repeatedly pointed out: It is up to the one claiming god does exist to give a good reason to justify that claim, not the other way around.

Are you expecting others to believe you have a PS5? Are you expecting others to do something for you because of this PS5? I have personally seen a PS5 before so it’s not a novel or shocking claim when millions have been sold.
