Happy to hear you ignored the email from Better Help & avoided the whole debacle. There’s just some things you don’t exploit for profit, mental health being one of them. On top of that Better Help’s reviews seem fake &/or heavily scripted, the terms of service are sketchy af, (u the client have to make sure the counselor is credible & licensed, not Better Help) & they ding you 200$ as soon as your free trial expires, even if you cancel beforehand; irdk how anyone could back their services in good faith, given all the negativity & false representations surrounding the company.
Nathan Holstrom wow, I had no idea it was THAT bad. I knew that the services they provided were terrible, but I hadn’t heard about the data collection or the fact that they can sell said data to marketing firms to target depressed consumers. That’s terrible, & evil; it sounds like they’re taking notes on what to do from televangelists like Peter Popoff. Those guys wrote the book on how to take advantage of people with problems. (Kinda ironic, I just finished watching Leon Lush’s new video on those guys.) Anyway, if you have any links to where you found out about all that wth Better Help, I’d really like to check them out. The entire thing didn’t sit right with me from the beginning, even more so after reading through their terms and conditions which basically exempt them from any and all responsibility.
Nathan Holstrom thanks for all the information! I don’t remember the candid app, but now I’m going to have to look into that as wel. What you’re saying does make a lot of sense though. Ever since the adpocalypse, content has significantly changed; I’m assuming if silencing the people is what their end goal, their first attempt at slowing down independent speech would be to stop any income that comes from places like youtube, twitch, Vimeo, etc. frusterating people so that many think it’s not worth their time anymore. (Unless they’re sponsored by a company like Better Help that gives you 200$ per depressed client that signs up.) Even before the adpocalypse you could feel & see that there was a sudden shift from, u can say whatever you want, to, u can say whatever you want as long as it’s ok with ‘us’.

Better help is a straight up scam.
It's all just a big bait to get you to sign up for "trial" in which as soon as it finishes even if you quit the service you still gonna get copped with the entire first months worth of fees which is over $200 even though you only used a week's worth, as they bill monthly.
There is a reason they can pay $100+ CPA because betterhelp are pulling in far more than that in money that they have basically scammed out of people who genuinely need help.

I'm surprised you guys didn't bring up some more of the complaints that have been surfacing recently about Better Help. Just some of the stories I've heard of poor customer service are abysmal and people having to switch between therapists regularly because they're just that bad. It's like their business model is designed to exploit the vulnerability of depressed people who are too desperate to shop around.
When I'm feeling blue I just call up a suicide prevention hotline and when they stop answering my calls I come hang with my good mates, Ozzy and Mozza.

As for Kickbacks on prescription drugs, it has been absolutely proven in several cases, including one involving a friend that, here in US at least, some Pharmacists and doctors have been found to absolutely push a certain drug because they got kickbacks from it. Now that's one thing when you're talking about a relatively harmless medicine, but here, it has been used in regard to narcotic pain medication. This has resulted in massive addiction numbers. Highly recommend the documentary series The Pharmacist on Netflix.
You and mozza are easily the same level of on screen chemistry as Hamish and Andy.

I totally agree it feels dodgy to promote any particular service for something which you've been involved in on your channel. The only time that's not dodgy is if it is literally the service you used yourself and would recommend. For example, if TH-camrs had mentioned their struggle with mental health and that they used an online service which worked well for them then by all means work out a sponsorship by that company and get some money for something you'd already like to recommend (and be up front about exactly what's going on).
The issue comes where there's a perceived "recommendation" side of the advertising when in reality it's simply a sponsorship. Loyal fans of a channel may believe it's a recommendation, especially if it's a topic which the TH-camr has offered their views on before.
I think the “force field” guy would be a more respectable sponsor

Tbh I disagreed with a lot of what you guys said, but Mozza's point on seeing the gp and getting things sorted that way makes total sense in Australia, nz etc. However countries like the us I doubt they'd have that same kind of operating system in place. Definitely makes me consider the situation in a different light. Ps please research on things a bit more in general xD

I found out about the BetterHelp issue from another TH-camr. I knew about the sponsorship side and it seemed like a cool way of “normalising” mental health. If big TH-camrs make a point of saying “if your having trouble, its cool, here’s help...” then great. If they’re getting paid for saying it...well, that’s business, isnt it?
BUT.....I didnt realise that its a payment-per-person sponsorship. That seems a bit iffy. If it was a one payment for advertising, fairynuff, but looking at it this way seems a bit exploitive.
I’m v.lucky to be in the UK so we have a lot in the ways of free healthcare. Its not perfect, but its better than paying out the arse if you need help.
