Clinton didn't actually commit perjury. There's such a thing as being "legally accurate", where your answers can be misleading but not be considered perjury. This is because of "legal definitions," which are different from common sense ones. The legal definition used in the deposition did not include oral sex, which is why Clinton used that point in his defense.
Furthermore, for perjury to applicable, you need the following: an oath, materiality, falsity, and intent. Clinton's statements fail the last three. You have to prove that Clinton KNEW he was lying and INTENDED to, first of all, which requires getting in his head. And given the legal definitions point, anyone could be confused about what constitutes "sexual relations" and what "alone in the Oval Office" meant? (Does it mean alone in the Oval Office itself, or alone in the Oval Office Complex, of various other rooms and locations? If I were the one deposed, I might respond the same way, and I have Asperger's Syndrome.) Plus, Clinton asked many times for the lawyers to clarify their questions and be more specific, each time they refused. And the materiality one is important: Lewinsky and the affair was not material to what the deposition was about, namely Paula Jones' case. A consensual affair has no bearing on a sexual harassment claim. Not to mention, the lawyers violated the discovery procedure by not informing Clinton and his lawyers that questions about Lewinsky were to be included, not sharing the Linda Tripp tapes, and the like. Plus, since Judge Wright threw out the Jones case in April 1998, that should've been the end of the affair, and an independent counsel with integrity would've shut everything down then and there.
Clinton simply made the settlement just to get the matter over and done with, not because he'd actually committed perjury. He doesn't say this in his defense, or many of the salient points mentioned, because he knows the average citizen doesn't have patience, wherewithal or intelligence to actually understand these points.
For further elaboration, check the following: www.huppi.com/kangaroo/L-clintonperjury.html

Lol the only typical standing point against bill is that hes a terrible husband and cheated with monica. He was the best president we had in our modern time and what do we judge him on and tried to impeach him for? Something that didnt have nothing to do with his job and something that dozens of presidents had done also. So if you want to criticize him for it then you better look at your history books because some of our most influential presidents for example : Thomas Jefferson , JFK , Theodore Roosevelt etc. All had a mistress and cheated on their wives while in office. So to criticize him for cheating is a moot point and a dumb one.

Bill Clinton was (and still is) confusing moral character with job performance. Jennings was about moral character, Clinton instead tried to obfuscate his lapse of moral judgment with what he had accomplished while in White House.
Looking back on this interview, the attitude, the speech, and all the Clinton trappings, he made me realize how similar he has been with Trump. The self-righteousness, the feeling of being wronged and hounded by political opponents, blaming everything to politics, Trump is using the exact playbook as Clinton had done.
And now, Trump has yet another cover to use. With Joe Biden granting a blanket pardon to his own son, Trump no doubt is going to do EXACTLY the same, using the EXACT same reasoning as Biden has used.
And THAT, in short, is how far the Dems' has climbed down from its moral high ground.

Miss Lewinsky should take responsibility instead of rewriting history regarding the affair and saying she was "patient zero of cyberbullying." First off, consent is consent is consent if it's two adults, regardless of the age difference or power structure. And secondly, the press fawned over her as a victim and said Clinton was a sexual predator. Just because SNL and Jay Leno made fun of you doesn't mean the press was hostile to you or blamed you for it all.
Should Clinton have refused Lewinsky? Absolutely, the onus was on him to say no. But it takes two to tango.

For example when a person is saying something and pointing to a completely different direction from where the person is looking, that means that that person is lying, because when you're lying you don't have complete control of your body, cuz you're thinking about the lie, so your body stars to make gestures, soooo when Clinton says that he didn't have relations with Monica he is pointing in another direction therefore....lying.

You could tell he was wounded by Jennings bringing up the low morality rating(?) he had been given, which was apparently even worse than Nixon's rating. After saying those people were "wrong," he then lies again saying it did not affect him, and Jennings to his credit put it right back on him. And Willy responded to that by using his tried and true deflection method (Bush's fault plus right wing conspiracy), coupled with his strenuous and emotional denial.
What Willy didn't seem to realize is that, post Monica, we all know of his propensity to lie vociferously when cornered. Note to Willy: Bush's screw ups and mismanagement have nothing to do with your own lies Bill. If Bill could have shown some humility and contrition here, instead of his typical deflection, we may have had some sympathy for him. But no, he claims victimhood and it was all the right-wing conspiracy at work.
He was not wrong though that he had done far more to try to bring down bin Laden than Bush did prior to 9/11. He of course fails to mention of the times he and his team chose not to strike bin Laden when the opportunity was there but the collateral damage was thought to be too high.

I have not heard anything about Obama, WBush, GHWBush, Reagan, Carter, or Ford doing anything the likes that Clinton did. The only reason Clinton survived it was because at the end of the day, the media stands by Democrats, he is one of the best communicating presidents we have had (agree or disagree with his policies) and we had a little something called the internet that boomed during his presidency. I don't give Clinton credit for creating the internet (unlike Al Gore), but I do give him the credit for not getting in the way.

It hasn't changed as much as people think, just peddling shock stories for ad revenue and popularity and ratings... The way the media acted during Clinton's BJ affair had all the quality of the same garbage you see today. BTW, this has nothing to do with Mr. Clinton's politics. I thought he was too pro-corporate and a shill who sided with Republicans way too often. I'm not his fan. But the personal lives of people shouldn't be used for political purposes. With facebook twitter and all that crap he would have nailed to the cross if he did that now. The thing is (and I'm a republican) Bill Clinton actually worked with the republicans when he was president.. Iv'e watched interviews with him with Bill O'Rielly on you tube and have earned a latent respect for him. His sexual escapades aside..I think he is a good politician. But even in that aspect of his life the 2 people he had to accountabilty to were his wife and daughter .

+ESLteacher62 I am seeing that Democrats seem to not lie where as Republicans not only lie but use social media to slur their opponents and confuse the public. Hillary's emails will prove to be nothing but smoke and mirrors to distrust her. Bill made this seem like Democrats lie with his perverse ways in the Oval Office. He hurt Hillary in every way possible and Republicans exploited this weakness. Sad

gtc1961 Both sides do, just not as much as Democrats. I just find that Democrats seem to be a bit more smarter than the Republics.....unless they're both on the same page and this is all a scheme in their portion.

What???? The right has Fox news, the left had virtually every other outlet...I'm thinking the left reached a lot more people that the right. Not to mention the brain washing going on in colleges and lower schools.

I agree w/the protestors. Hillary belongs in jail. On a side note, but related to Hillary, and especially w/re to the very first rear view shots of this video, probably at least 90% of women really ought to wear dresses instead of pants/shorts. Old ladies and fat women need to do a public service and wear dresses. Really.

I think what we got here is a case where the sleazy politician has more credibility than the sleazy journalist. Let's give credit where its due--Bill is probably generally factually correct on the points he makes about Ken Starr and network coverage etc. If our friend Peter wants to stick it to the politician, he should have come armed with facts and not just accusations.
    Game Clinton.

He loved his wife to support her career and have a child with her. He loved this other woman, Ms Lewinsky, for some brief time while the Republican Congress was invoking govt shutdown so that even power supply to the White House was withdrawn at times.
And he lied about matters of his sexual behaviour, that weren't complained about by the other adult, in an investigation. When Clinton lied, nobody died. It didn't bring the USA into needless deeper armed conflict with Iraq, just for example.
The time of the Congress and its committees, including the full Senate with Chief Justice for an impeachment trial were consumed by the campaign to oppose him because they couldn't prevail against him in the 1996 Presidential Election. Their time could otherwise have been devoted to, say, reviewing projects for infrastructure including interstate highways and rural eletrification and pandemic readiness and natural disaster response, or other budget estimates. Instead we had this shit about the stain on the blue dress. The 1998 Congressional elections gave the public's verdict of the whole affair: Republicans lost in style he survived the move for removal from office with pretty good +ve approval through to his last day in office. It really is an exceptional individual that sets out to campaign for and win high elected office like he did those two times (and 4x Governor of Arkansas before it). You try it some time & see how far ya get.
You heard his acknowledgment and apology for what he was sanctioned for. Apology accepted, as we move on. His facts are right on this. Turns out the sexual behaviour of the Republicans in the Congress moving against him, like Rep Mark Foley and Speaker Dennis Hastert, was even more shameful with their boys and hookers and mistresses and assgrabbing sexual harassment. No more of a sinner than most of the rest of us.
