Hillary knows that Monica was not Bill's first affair. He has quite the list. And Hillary knows the list quite well. Her false outrage is a great acting job.
I was just sitting here thinking the same... they make it out like it was a one and done type of thing. What a great laugh! What about all the others... like Gennifer Flowers?
Why wouldn't she be outraged by multiple affairs?
I think what outraged her was the fact that he lied to her, and she publicly defended his initial story. As you say, she knew about his proclivities (even before they married), but the ground rules were that he would level with her. He initially pretended that Monica was just a star struck kid who had developed an obsession with him that he had done nothing to encourage.
It's safer for their integrity to play up the one scandal rather than having to admit to a long list of affairs and expose an open marriage that's more like a business arrangement. How she ever thought she'd be a good Presidential candidate is surreal, people can see through a façade like this.

Even after watching “Impeachment” and the A&E documentary “The Clinton Affair”, I still can’t understand how he and Monica carried on right under everyone’s nose in The White House. How did an intern prance in and out of the Oval Office that often without it being so obvious? It’s apparent his secretary covered for them.
Well, it was obvious enough that she lost her job at the White House and was moved to the Pentagon. She was moved specifically because people thought Lewinsky was spending too much time with the President.

Because this wasn't really a new thing. Many, if not most, presidents have been cheating on their wives in the White House since the White House was built. He was just the first one to get shit for it for purely political motives.

Agreed, plus she wasn't the only first lady who stayed with their husband after a cheating scandal, for example, Jackie Kennedy and Eleanor Roosevelt. I know there are many other presidents who have cheated on their wives and still remain with them until death do them apart. Plus people need to understand it may not be so easy to divorce the president of the United States since both of them are very public figures. Both the First Lady and president have jobs they can't abandon even if it's for their well-being. There is a reason why no president has been divorced while in office or after office. Rumor has it that Jackie and Eleanor wanted to get divorced from their husband but sadly that couldn't happen bc it would cause a huge scandal.

When I was a teenager, I started to feel disgusted about the concept of marriage because I saw hypocrisy and superficiality everywhere. What really ticked me off was women putting up with their husband's affair if they got a gift in return. For example, there was this guy who humped a woman in the middle of a bar. Out of the sight of others, there was a wooden cabin in the bar, styled to look like a boat's wheelhouse. Inebriated as he was, he forgot that the cabin wasn't soundproof. A few days later, the guy's wife was strutting around with a red coral necklace, proudly showing it off to other women. "Not every woman gets something like that from her husband..." -- I guess I'll never marry, I thought.

So many women rationalize "staying" many times for financial reasons, desire to keep the family intact, or just plain poor self confidence/sefl-esteem (i.e. they don't truly believe they can find someone who will treat them better). If you have your own money, it will be easier for you to leave if you have had enough of your husband's antics. I think personal pride is also a reason why many wives choose to stay and to put up with it. It often starts with flat-out denial, even if the writing is on the wall. Then, when the shit hits the fan because someone is having a baby or there are other hard facts that make further denial impossible, then they put on that "I am a strong woman, my husband loves me and I am supporting him, always" facade. -- There are people who find that photo of Chelsea, holding both her parents' hands and the three of them walking up to the chopper inspiring, but I find it sad. It should not be a child's job to fix his/her parents' marriage or be the glue that holds them together, not even if it's an older child.

How this story was handled shows the strong misogyny in the media and in our heads. Instead of focusing on the one in power, the married one, we focused on the woman. It is also difficult for me in my head not to focus on her first and blame her mainly. My head just wants to go back to that common narrative to first shame the woman and call her "a slut", although he was the one in power with much more responsibility on his shoulders
I'm pretty convinced that so many women hated and perhaps continue to hate Lewinsky because of their own fear that their husband/partner might have an affair. I also think married women hate the other woman (even if she exists only in their nightmares) more because they love their husband and they find it difficult to hate him. Hating the other party is easier. I think children can be even more extreme -- children, before they hit puberty, idealize their parents. A spouse does not do that, unless that person is as dumb as a rock. If you idealize your father, you will find it impossible to see him as just as guilty -- or even guiltier -- than the third party.

I think it's because women have historically been held more accountable than men, and men have been excused by sayings like "boys will be boys", so if he cheats it's almost like it was "in his nature" so not his fault, but of the woman who "tempted him".
These sayings are still very common and they reflect the our mindset. I know i had a ton of internalized misogny to unpack
It was all his fault. He was in the position of power and control and should never of let it happen no matter who she was or what she was willing to do. He was married. He was a public figure. HE WAS PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. If he succumbed to his urges there would have been a costly and damaging impeachment process that would have run on for a large part of his Presidency that would have been hugely harmful to democracy and his Government and.....that's exactly what happened....
But Monica did chase him down. She was naive and Linda put her up to it, but even Monica said Bill tried to tell her he didn’t want to do that anymore to save his family. Monica for whatever reason was sooo in love with him.
Not one little thing in my head thought of ANY of that mess. Not about Hillary OR Monica. Idk why any other woman would think that way unless they were already sexist themselves. The most that’s going through my head is that compared to a range of different cheaters, Bill Clinton doesn’t come off like he has a right to any woman he comes across. I was thinking that he was simply a womanizer who didn’t control himself and Hillary Clinton had to live with that. It’s an unfortunate and humiliating situation but not all cheaters are the same. Bill Clinton clearly shows traits of a redeemable cheater, other types of cheaters think they’re in the right and don’t care about what they’ve actually done. If this were the case, I would think someone like Hillary Clinton would’ve absolutely left him. She looks like the type. But that’s only my opinion

@@Luvanmusiq I was aware of the fighting and bitterness from my Mom towards him. He was a serial cheater, just like the former president. She became an alcoholic, a very mean abusive one. My household was very toxic. It wasn’t until I was older that I found out why she was so mean. I had a hard time trusting men, still do.
