The player on the Escapist hasn't been working for weeks on my end. Browsers and adblockers made no difference. I also tried turning it off and on again.. So I did everything in my power... Any ideas? It just refuses to play any video.
@@DoctorDex Tried clearing cookies on the site? That seems to resolve it "most" times. I'm also working on having our tech person put a contact line on the site so folks can start sending him error data to see if we can resolve this, it's really hard to replicate on our end.
Z.H.P. Unlosing Ranger vs Darkdeath Evilman Did an acronym okay. Unfortunately, the dots were also in the name, making the game nigh impossible for most store search systems to look for without sounding like an idiot telling the person what to type in.
The minigun confused me at first too. It's actually able to fire rapidly. You just have to hold the fire button down. So basically, fire once to the beat and then it'll start ramping up faster and faster. My first clear of the game was with the minigun and "The Best Defense" shield. (Plus double shot and cleaving) Long story short, that's the most broken gun in the game imo. Edit: I also find the second boss to be the most difficult. He may be slow, but he's less predictable and seems to have no limit to the amount of the homing projectiles that he can have on screen at once. They have really terrible "homing" and sometimes lose track of you and end up getting stuck in corners or something and then when you go to dodge the near insta-death laser from the boss, they'll miraculously regain targeting and come at you from all angles at once.

4:15 For those of you that don't know, holding the fire button on the minigun will spin it up and fire full auto. The minigun is probably the best weapon if you suck at rhythm or when you're getting the hang of doing everything in rhythm.

Should have mentioned this when I first saw the review (the day it was published), but this is the reason I still follow Yahtzee: our preferences might not align on lots of things, but we appreciate the same fundamentals. BPM - for all its jank - is a game that kicks ass, and they continue to add content to it, which surprised me more than anything. Skuld is a character with lifesteal who loses a health every quarter note, and who rewards you for flawless clears even as she pushes you to be extremely reckless. Furthermore, the rifle she starts with is kind of trash but reloads on 1 and scales extremely well with stat boosts.
One thing you may not know about BPM is that some of the models are from an Epic Games project that died when Fortnite started rearing his ugly head called Paragon. They released those art assets (some of my favorite models to date) and they made it into this game. Makes me happy knowing Sevarog lives on as the hardest boss in this game.
I like that, since he's educating us about programming and how to make good games in Dev Diary, he's been acknowledging the "primary gameplay loop" much more often.
3:42 I actually _had_ the toy representing the final boss as a kid. Little happy meal How to Train Your Dragon _thing_ that ended up being about the same quality as most happy meal toys.

Glad to hear someone actually gave the game a positive review. Just didn't expect it to be you. I've shared in your addiction to the game so much, I got a bit of carpal tunnel trying to beat the game with the last Valkyrie on hard, constantly pressing the jump button. And you'll probably like to know, the Minigun can rapid fire. You just have to hold down the shoot button after pressing it down on beat. But using a gun the fires to the beat for you feels wrong and unsatisfactory. So much so that when you need to reload the damn thing you've lost the beat and you lose all sense of momentum, I think I prefer the starting pistol.
Can we mention the run killer room? one in floor 3 and 4 with infinitely spawning, highly mobile, 3 shot with most weapons, wasps that have a ranged proyectile, which spawn from a often obscured spawner. man, i love having the railgun that can murder everything, only to be stopped by a swarm of enemies
A Hat in Time, Undertale. Portal, Dark Souls, Hotline Miami, Yakuza, Obra Dinn, Disco Elysium and Alyx... he DOES have positive reviews of games he really likes but yeah they're rare.
I remember my first encounter with the minigun, took my third time finding the thing to learn it was a bloody rev mechanic, where you hold the fire trigger down and it revs up to full speed over the course of 4 beats.

Mother's Day Kisses had better environments, but Murder Death Kill 2 had pretty neat variety in its gameplay thanks to having Max, Doctor hawking, and Kurt being playable characters.
Portal, far cry 3, half life alyx, boneworks, far cry blood dragon, hotline miami, Team Fortress 2, Titanfall 2, Bioshock, Bioshock infinite, DOOM 4, Dark souls (all of them), assassins creed black flag, minecraft, breath of the wild, Undertale (technically), this game, FTL, papers please, the obra din, etcetera etcetera were all positive reviews.
You gotta hold the shoot button on the Gatling gun, it winds up with the rhythm be pretty cool to see Ultrakill looked at, could use a Yahtzee look and see on that one
I love that Yatzee knows that the Subway workers are called “Sandwich Artists”. Perhaps it’s more common knowledge than I realized, but when I first got a job there, the title was an amusing surprise.
I think the one thing that the game has a problem with is not explaining a lot of items and their abilities. Like the minigun yatzhee described. It actually seems to be the only gun you have to hold to fire, and it revs up with the beat. It took me forever to figure that out and the game never once gave a hint about it.

But I'd be great If they updated the game with original graphics since they could definitely afford some artists now But they also racked up the games original price and said nothing about the graphics. Im sure you probably hears about this already but the minigun is one of the only weapons in the game that you can just hold down the fire button and it fires faster and faster with the beat until it is basically a minigun
I'm reminded of that thing in Mother 3 where there's an option if you press the buttons to the beat of battle music you can get more damage on the enemy. So it's like that but for the whole game?
yes, but you can only do actions to beat of the music. If you miss a beat, you'll hear an audio prompt that lets you know you missed, and your action wont be completed, as well as losing your score multiplier. Actions include shooting, reloading, and using your character abilities
Wasn't expecting to see someone not know how to use the minigun...I'm actually impressed. And they had to spell out the abbreviation of the title to make it known it's a pun.
I will say that the minigun can fire rapidly, however if memory serves (I didn't play for very long, not my cup 'o tea) you had to fire on beat twice then hold down for it to spool up, an odd choice to be sure. On top of that most of the bosses I'd seen before putting the game down were assets bought from Epic (specifically the first boss being the paragon character Sevarog, and the second another character who's name eludes me). This may be true for other enemies too, although I'm not educated on marketplace assets to know as much. Either way a solid game, and a smashing review as always!
Acronyms are a lossy compression, like .jpg files. And like jpeg image files anything you lose, you’ll never get back. It’s up to the viewer to fill in the blanks. I remember one ‘cloud computing company’ decided to coin the phrase “Big Metal” and abbreviate it BM. That didn’t work out for them too well, since BM also stands for something you’d flush down the toilet.
The minigun actually does fire rapidly, just gotta hold it down. I was lucky enough to get the infinite ammo upgrade during the same run, so I'd just constantly hold down left click and it would fire at full speed, basically winning the game for me.
I had the additional pleasure of playing BPM: Bullets Per Minute while wearing a haptic vest. You think the 'doof doof doof' in your headphones is good enough, wait till you feel it thudding in your shoulders, chest, and kidneys. I spent multiple hours playing through after booting the game up for the first time. (And after I turned on the 'loose' rhythm option. The regular gameplay is a little too punishing for missing the beat, and I can't even imagine what the 'strict' setting is like.)
LOLed at the whole "doof doof doof doof doof doof" thing, along with the imps getting killed in many crazy ways (especially when they're trying to speak), the dead imp pile, imps on scales, imps with wings, and the fat imp! Also liked the many ways he calls BPM. :D
The minigun is actually the most broken one of them all. You just hold the trigger (on beat) and watch all the enemies explode into tiny bits. The only time I won a run (and last time I played) was when I got the minigun... and maxed all the stats. It's a really neat game! Very lacking in graphic quality, assets (many assets are legally acquired from paid or free sources), music variety and some balancing. But it's the developer's first game so I really liked it and hope they revisit it with updates or a better, more cohesive and fun second game!
i hope he does talk about ultrakill eventually, it is still early in development but i think it's genuinely the most satisfying videogame i've ever played in general

Yeah I didnt know that was a thing and found it out in a guide and now its probably my favourite weapon
in his post stream he knew about that already but its kind of concerning why he didnt at least edit this part out in the review.
Combined with explosive shots, infinite ammo and it's pretty much up there with the raygun. And you get to juggle the bosses too.

my big wish for this game is that each gun had its own music track with their own rythms. probably a pretty big ask but it would be pretty awesome.

I got BPM on a whim and decided I enjoyed it so wholeheartedly that I've been playing it semi regularly for a long time now.

You gotta hold the shoot button on the Gatling gun, it winds up with the rhythm be pretty cool to see Ultrakill looked at, could use a Yahtzee look and see on that one
I love that Yatzee knows that the Subway workers are called “Sandwich Artists”. Perhaps it’s more common knowledge than I realized, but when I first got a job there, the title was an amusing surprise.

I think the one thing that the game has a problem with is not explaining a lot of items and their abilities. Like the minigun yatzhee described. It actually seems to be the only gun you have to hold to fire, and it revs up with the beat. It took me forever to figure that out and the game never once gave a hint about it.
My only problem with BPM Is that its assets are straight up lifted from Paragons free models set.
Yeah its a fairly ugly game, but considering the dev team consists of literally 2 people I think it's worth giving a pass lol.
Even then, I don't even really see what the problem with that is. Or even consider it a problem at all.

I would agree because the gameplay is pretty well made even if it is just Metal:hellsing and maybe they just didnt know how to 3d modele? But I'd be great If they updated the game with original graphics since they could definitely afford some artists now But they also racked up the games original price and said nothing about the graphics. I just dont really like the idea of supporting an asset flip that has no intention of changing.
Im sure you probably hears about this already but the minigun is one of the only weapons in the game that you can just hold down the fire button and it fires faster and faster with the beat until it is basically a minigun
I'm reminded of that thing in Mother 3 where there's an option if you press the buttons to the beat of battle music you can get more damage on the enemy. So it's like that but for the whole game?
yes, but you can only do actions to beat of the music. If you miss a beat, you'll hear an audio prompt that lets you know you missed, and your action wont be completed, as well as losing your score multiplier. Actions include shooting, reloading, and using your character abilities

Wasn't expecting to see someone not know how to use the minigun...I'm actually impressed. And they had to spell out the abbreviation of the title to make it known it's a pun.
I will say that the minigun can fire rapidly, however if memory serves (I didn't play for very long, not my cup 'o tea) you had to fire on beat twice then hold down for it to spool up, an odd choice to be sure. On top of that most of the bosses I'd seen before putting the game down were assets bought from Epic (specifically the first boss being the paragon character Sevarog, and the second another character who's name eludes me). This may be true for other enemies too, although I'm not educated on marketplace assets to know as much. Either way a solid game, and a smashing review as always!
Acronyms are a lossy compression, like .jpg files. And like jpeg image files anything you lose, you’ll never get back. It’s up to the viewer to fill in the blanks. I remember one ‘cloud computing company’ decided to coin the phrase “Big Metal” and abbreviate it BM. That didn’t work out for them too well, since BM also stands for something you’d flush down the toilet.
The minigun *definitely* shoots fast if you hold it down and is ridiculously fun if you also end up with the infinite ammo powerup

Mini gun does shoot fast, you just hold down the trigger i believe. Skill up did a video playing it n shows it shooting fast, it just starts slow

Bought this as it seemed like glowing praise! 10 mins in I'm hooked!! So addictive!

I was lucky enough to get the infinite ammo upgrade during the same run, so I'd just constantly hold down left click and it would fire at full speed, basically winning the game for me.
I had the additional pleasure of playing BPM: Bullets Per Minute while wearing a haptic vest. You think the 'doof doof doof' in your headphones is good enough, wait till you feel it thudding in your shoulders, chest, and kidneys. I spent multiple hours playing through after booting the game up for the first time. (And after I turned on the 'loose' rhythm option. The regular gameplay is a little too punishing for missing the beat, and I can't even imagine what the 'strict' setting is like.)
"Bullets Prime Minister" is the kind of word combo that gets your name on certain lists. Oops! Am I on them now, too?

LOLed at the whole "doof doof doof doof doof doof" thing, along with the imps getting killed in many crazy ways (especially when they're trying to speak), the dead imp pile, imps on scales, imps with wings, and the fat imp! Also liked the many ways he calls BPM. :D

The minigun is actually the most broken one of them all. You just hold the trigger (on beat) and watch all the enemies explode into tiny bits.
The only time I won a run (and last time I played) was when I got the minigun... and maxed all the stats.
It's a really neat game! Very lacking in graphic quality, assets (many assets are legally acquired from paid or free sources), music variety and some balancing. But it's the developer's first game so I really liked it and hope they revisit it with updates or a better, more cohesive and fun second game!
The comparisons were especially good in this one.

This game is nothing like doom wth. Just because screen looks red and game has metal doesn't mean its doom.
i hope he does talk about ultrakill eventually, it is still early in development but i think it's genuinely the most satisfying videogame i've ever played in general
