@@SamsTrains Hello there Sam. one of your US viewers here. I wanted to say when it comes to reviving old model trains I'm just like you. I love what you're doing. Main thing why im contacting you though is because I'm curious to know what you did for a living before your YT channel had taken off to the point where it's at now? Please let me know because I would love to know what your pervious occupation was since you're so damned good at restoring these old model trains. Cheers and have a great one.
      Kind regards and best wishes,
      Dylan. 😁

That video was fun to watch. I love seeing old, nonworking locomotives brought back to life. You could do without the time limit, though. I would rather see you take the time to do a proper job and not have to cut corners because of time. Also, by not having to rush, you can take the time to show your repairs more clearly. I am definitely looking forward to your next repair video.

The time limit is a silly gimmick. I suspect the time is added after the fact in editing.

Hi Sam, only discovered your channel recently and I now find it compulsive viewing! 'Salvage or Scrap' adds another dimension! My last model train was a Hornby OO in the 1950s, that my dad had great fun building a permanent layout for! Unfortunately in 1959 we moved house and there was no space at the new home for the layout! That was the end of my train hobby! Keep up the excellent work your channel is so entertaining, I look forward to the next video. Thank you

Those blue polystyrene packing things you use as a cradle are really useful for that. Though I've seen stalls at exhibitions trying to charge £10 for them- i found one lying on the street the other day, a quick rinse under the tap was all it needed!

Hi Sam ,, I have great pleasure in cleaning and oiling all my new additions and i find that cleaning the wheels with loads of built up gunk on them is most gratifying and cleaning the bodies are just as gratifying but i use cotton buds and just normal kitchen bench cleaner and is safe with most paints and decals except for the really early triang locos and some carriages which the paint tends to run a bit.
You can certainly tell if you have purchased a loco from a smoking house or not.
I have also noticed that that most of the trains i buy have like a sweatly clothes cupboard type of fresh clean linen smell to them and these are mostly from the uk.
Yet another awesome video there sam and keep them coming.
Thanks heeps for the oarsum video.
    Cheers from John in Australia.

The demonstrating the strip down of the locomotive will be very useful to many new to the hobby and with the present prices of new locomotives the tutorial is good. But please forget against the clock with flashing lights and buzzers as I feel it detracts what is a worthwhile and useful video .

Sam I want to say I can't wait to see the repairs on the Ohio Loco with the Orange Cab roof( I don't know what class of logo it actually is) and the Adams Loco if you end up saving those 2 and the repairs go perfectly. I say you should keep those because 1. I would love to see you have another Adams Loco to go with the others that you have including that lime green one and that black one. 2. I would love to see that American Tank Engine I'm guessing. Alongside your other American Locos. I don't know you decide if you want to keep them or not I know I would because I love the detail on those Locos including the Ohio Tank Engine the detail on that one in my opinion is incredible.

Hi Sam for a bit of fun as this is a new series to give yourself a bit of extra time on a salvage where an odd minute might save the salvage do the same as Unused phone data where you keep a total of the quick repairs unused time BUT when needed you can only use up to a maximum of say 10% of your total for 1 salvage at a time.

Just as a note, it actually is a good thing to have a slight layer of carbon on the commutator. This is usually from the brushes, and acts as a lubricant to protect the copper contacts, and is conductive. As long as the gaps between the segments are clean, usually no issues. I am not sure why model railway people are so insistent on removing this carbon layer. Other commutated motors, in domestic and industrial use, don't ever get the commutators cleaned in the way model railway people do and they work absolutely fine.

The Yorkshire version of the D49 is a very collectible model. If you find one and don’t like tender drive. The bodies are a straight swap on to loco drive Railroad D49s. They are if their era, but IMHO still nice locos for a layout. They are compact, with nice valve gear interest. Normally a lot cheaper than a more contemporary model of a passenger loco.
