  • Fan Tuan aka the greatest taiwanese breakfast... ever
This is a family recipe adapted with some of my favorite night market stand in Taiwan. Guaranteed to satisfy any breakfast and asian craving you have. You need this...
    Recipe:
    - Sweet Rice (3 cups)
    - Water (2 cups+)
    - Fried Dough Stick | Youtiao (2 sticks)
    - Preserved Sour Mustard (as needed) (Sugar, Sesame oil, vegetable oil needed)
    - Preserved Radish (as needed)
    - Scallions (1 stalk)
    - Pork Floss (as needed)
    - Eggs (4 large)
    - Bao Bei Chili Oil (as needed)
    1. Wash sweet rice and cook in a rice cooker. Make sure you're using about a 2/3 ratio of water to rice inside the rice cooker. Leave aside until needed
    2. Cut Fried dough sticks, dice sour mustard and scallions.
    a. Bake fried dough stick on a medium heat (300°f-350°f) for a couple of minutes until crispy
    b. Pan fry the sour mustard with some sesame oil and vegetable oil on a medium high heat until browned. Add a touch of water, continue to cook then add a pinch of sugar. This will take about 5-7 minutes.
    c. Assemble all the ingredients as needed
    3. Wrap a small wet towel in saran wrap (plastic wrap) very tightly to use as our shaper. Drop in 1-3 scoops of rice depending on how big you want it. Push downwards flat and layer on ingredients as needed.
Take the bottom of the towel and roll upwards, tucking the rice in. Pick up the towel and roll the sides into an oval shape. Make small adjustments as needed ensuring everything is secure in a ball shape. Add more rice as needed.
    4. Serve in plastic wrap or plastic bag as the rice is a little bit sticky. Enjoy~

This was my lunch when I lived in Taipei. Not my breakfast though. Nothing could beat the yumi danbing (waidai). Egg and corn pancakes (to go). Whatever that dark brown sauce was, I miss it so much!

I had this literally every morning in Taiwan paring it with warm soy milk is SO GOOD. I love it. My mom would run down to the local mom and pop shop to get it for me. There aren't many good places in the US so it's kinda sad but it means I get to visit my family in Taiwan more so that's a plus!
Edit: I want people to know you don't have to use egg or that style of egg if you don't want. Scrambled or any other is just as good! You can adapt it to your liking. I don't actually like egg so I never get mine with it.

Well done, reminds me of my splendid trip to Taipei a few years ago where I stumbled upon one of these street joints and had an amazing food experience. Sadly, I only found out about this wonderful breakfast food on the final day I was in Taipei. But now I will try to recreate this memory with your recipe. Thank you. Liked and subscribed.
Also, your shirt is pretty dope. Where does one get such a shirt?

    • @BaoBeiKH
      @BaoBeiKH  3 ปีที่แล้ว

yay! I hope you enjoy recipe and have great success with it. I got the shirt in a small place called Rainbow Village in Taiwan :)

It is the taiwanese version of burrito. There are literally 100s of different things you can put into it. I can eat it my time in a day so in the morning, it will be similar to the ones in the video, but in the evening I can use the fried eel, bbq pork, or stewed beef plus all kinds of vegan as stuffing.

Hmm it's hard to give locations of these places in Taiwan since they're very small and don't really exist on the internet. However... If you go to Taiwan, almost any stand that sells Fan Tuan will be incredibleeeeeeee. The one I went to is on a street called Xinyi Anhe :D
