  • When is the right time to use a skid-flip asymmetrical hybrid bowling ball vs. a skid-flip symmetrical hybrid ball?
    There are some key factors you need to pay attention to when you're bowling in order to recognize and make the proper choices during competition. In this video, I'll be testing a Black Widow 2.0 Hybrid vs Ebonite GB4 Hybrid.
    With the help of SPECTO data, I'll highlight the differences in each ball and their general tendencies when it comes to reaction shape, overall hook and continuation.
    Here are the SPECTO data points used and definition of each term:
    Total Hook - Total number of boards the ball crosses on the way to the pins.
    Hook Power - Number of boards the ball hooked based on the True Breakpoint.
    Entry Angle - The angle of the ball between 51 and 55 feet.
    Impact Angle - The angle of the ball between 57 and 59.5 feet.
    Pin Deck Exit - Ball position at the end of the pin deck.

    As a new bowler (March of 2023), I had no idea about the different kind of bowling balls but after talking to my local pro shop, my first ball is the Black Widow 2.0 hybrid and I love it. Now to build the rest of my bowling ball collection is underway!

    I'm a speed-dominant lefty that tends to dominate the 5 board. 😂 Recently found a new PSO that everyone seems to like and he recommended strong cover Symms for me. I can throw my C300 Savage all three games of house league if my thumb doesn't swell (not possible now as weather is warming up). I clean it after most outings, but it's definitely lane-shined. Nova is drilled to hook late so doesn't work unless I slow way down. Phaze4 works well with a strong pin-down layout. I've thrown the Cuda Powercor at a demo and LOVED it, better than the Envy. Also threw the Fate at a Storm demo and was surprised how much movement I saw on the backend. So, I'm thinking this PSO is spot on with his recommendation.

    Hey Nick. Thanks for the great video. This is very helpful. I started a couple of months ago and my only ball is the Hammer Raw Black Solid symmetrical. I'm not really rev dominant, and this video helped me visualize why I hesitate to move left with my ball. The strong arc reaction of the Hammer Raw makes me feel like it simply won't come back and hit the pocket once I've moved too far left. It's possible I just still don't fully know my ball and will eventually be comfortable doing it. But at the moment, I feel like it just wouldn't work

    I used to worry about Fresh versus Dry until I found that both my symmetrical Radical Sneak Attack and the Black Widow 2.0 would strike if my speed was matched to the lane conditions. The difference was a move left 3-4 Boards and more angle with the Black Widow. However, the Black Widow tends to leave 6-10’s and 10 pins due to the angle. A switch back to the Sneak Attach Sym usually Carries better for awhile until the lane dries to much and the ball dies, flat 10’s, 4’s, and buckets and 4-10 split. It’s like what was stated, if I can stay straight and to the right side, asym. If I have to go left and open up or slide through oil to get to the dry for a quick read, the Black Widow all the way!

    • @SirJoelsuf1
      @SirJoelsuf1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Or you can loft the Sneak Attack and keep the same angle. Bowlers who think they can beat the oil with a solid asym have the right idea, I've done that plenty with my own Widow 2.0, Prism Hybrid, and even my Redemption, but the odds are better when you have angle and can feed to the break.
      If the ball burns up, you need to create hold. You can do that by lofting. Trouble is, most who loft a ball do it wrong and loft it too high and not far enough. They also throw it harder too which is also a big no-no when lofting (unless you have lots of RPMs).

    I bowl at Concord Lanes in South Saint Paul. Our league moved after AMF Maplewood Lanes closed. What I noticed when we moved was the outsides did not come back as hard when I missed right (I'm right-handed). The Nexis Solid and the upgrades to that ball were not a good option at Concord Lanes. I had to throw the Black Widow, then Jet Black Taboo with matte finish, and now the Black Widow 2.0. However, beginning last season, they began oiling the lanes where the outsides hook a lot more like Maplewood. So therefore I wouldn't call it going from Symmetric to Asymmetric but just going to a core that doesn't make the ball jump so violently like the Widow. And that's my Brunswick Kingpin which hasn't been bowled enough to replace it with the latest ball. It does seem like scoring wise it would be best to change from that Kingpin to a Pearl Symmetrical core because when they put this much oil on the lanes I have trouble carrying from the ball return. Last year however, I had no problem carrying from the ball return when I hit the pocket because they were so dry.

  • @travishanson166
    @travishanson166 ปีที่แล้ว

    I can throw either effectively, as long as i can see the core migration.
    I usually have asym/sym pairs in the bag.
    For example og widow solid/pro motion, intense fire/drive, obsession pearl/uppercut, widow pink/attitude control.
    If i am over revving the syms, the asyms typically are better suited for me.

    Just got the Game Breaker 4 and good god DAMN does it HOLD. It is perfect and I mean PERFECT for when lanes transition but unless you take the polish off it won't get up the hill on fresh and it'll burn up if the lanes are fried unless you can loft it past the arrows. I'll post a review of it on my channel soon.

    My black widow 2.0 inisists me to play inisde more or throw it faster. The reaction is has once it hits the break point is insane. Its a monster of a ball. My bench mark ball is my Reality Check. Im a two hander so i had it drilled to carry more which helps me read the lane in the beginning. Medium rev and medium speed is my game.

    Very interesting. When playing straighter on fresh, the asym solid is better than the sym, but as friction develops and you're pushed to a weaker cover, the core preference for the launch angles flip. I'll have to keep this in mind when building my next arsenal.
    I'm curious how this will play out once we get to pearls. Will the difference be exacerbated? Or will we see another reversal?

    • @brunsnick
      @brunsnick  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sometimes a quicker hook window and strong cover lead to the ball rolling forward more. Good for control, not necessarily wide angles.

    • @hackprefect
      @hackprefect ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brunsnick Then it stands to reason that the pearl comparison will be more of the same, but maybe more dramatic. Of course, this is all generalized, as one can have any cover type be strong or weak by comparison. The GB4 Hybrid and Trouble Maker cut very different paths on the lane, even if put to the same surface.

    • @brunsnick
      @brunsnick  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bowlingxp8345 correct. If impact angle is same or below the entry then it is rolling forward at the pins.

    • @bowlingxp8345
      @bowlingxp8345 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brunsnick Ok so then...the impact should never be smaller than the entry, right? Only equal at most. Because even if the ball rolls out early the angle would remain constant. I ask this because i think on a couple of shots it was smaller. Am i missing something? I would assume it can only get smaller after impact and deflection. But at 59 feet there is not impact yet.

    could easily see these balls working in the same bag, as the BWH gets too strong a switch the the GB4 could keep the same angles. Maybe just 1 surface up on the GB4 to increase the overall difference between the two balls in that situation.

    Hey Nick,
    I keep seeing people describe and show asyms being more sharp and angular, with syms more slow and gradual. However most of the time when I throw asyms they just seem to give up and puke rather than bouncing off the friction. Can I learn anything from this about how to perhaps lay balls out more effectively?
    (I’m an experience player not a newbie if that helps)
    Thanks

    • @brunsnick
      @brunsnick  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends a lot on the cover and your layouts, too many variables to answer exactly. But, asyms typically respond faster to friction shortening the hook window. Sounds like you may be bowling on dry lanes or maybe you don’t have a lot of ball speed.
