  • In the South, never judge a town name by the way it's spelled. These town names in Florida are no exception.

    I’m from Loxahatchee Fl...... learning how to spell that as a kid was my biggest failing.....gotta love Florida ❤️

    All Ya’ll did real good ! We sometimes pronounce them wrong as well. That is why I live in Switzerland.....Florida ! We are very neutral. Go Gators !

When I graduated HS in 1963 the population was 5.63 million. Today the population is almost 21.5 million, the vast majority transplants.

    I didn't know how to pronounce a single one of these except Okeechobee. Y'all got all my towns last video. Alachua, Micanopy, Ocala. Those mispronunciations were the ones that hurt for me to hear.

      I was at an air show in Alachua and the announcer pronounced "ala-chew-a" I said God Bless you to a random person I was walking by and they just laughed. Also, I can't believe how people can't pronounce Ocala (which was native american as Ocali).

      Well in Greek mythology the Hesperides are nymphs of the golden light of sunsets and Florida being the sunshine state it seems fitting

    I’m from the panhandle where Wewahitchka is and we call it “Wewa” we never do say the whole word just Wewa

      Old soul yep, I grew up hearing about those “Wewa watermelons”. I’m surprised they didn’t include the Ochlokonee River, DeFuniak Springs, or Ponce DeLeon (pronounced PONCE de LE-on).

    Love it! We’re from a VERY small area in the Florida panhandle known as Cerro Gordo, off the Choctawhatchee River. A little ways north of Sopchoppy and Wewahitchka. This was probably one of my favorite episodes!!

    I only got two wrong! Woo! ... Sadly one was in central Florida (where I'm from) but it was on the other coast, so I don't feel too bad. I actually live near Eau Gallie and I've been to Okeechobee! We do have some crazy names down here. Mostly because a lot of them are Native American words. econlockhatchee is a fun one too!

      I live in the Eau Gallie area also and I remember how much I struggled to say it when I still lived out of state. It’s easy now. I love these videos. I get about half right which isn’t terrible having only lived here 4 years :-p

    East TN names: Maryville, and Talbott. There's an r in both if you're from round here and no y in the first one.

      Oh, yes. I've heard people pronounce Talbott and it sound more like a guttural grunt. And, if you pronounce it Mary-Ville, you will get laughed to shame. I mean, if you actually pronounce it Ville instead of vul, you're liable to get laughed at.

    I lived in Florida most my life and I mainly heard of Ponte Vedra(Since it’s close to Jacksonville) and Okeechobee. I don’t know why we have so many Indian name towns.

    Only one I couldnt get was that one near Tampa. I was amazed to see Eau Gallie on there. Leaving only a couple minutes away from it all my life, I just considered it a common name to say, especially since it had the most common causeway to get to the beach.

    Hey I live 1 mile from thonotosassa!...pronounced tho no toe sassa. Right outside Tampa to the east...means many lakes I think

    Y'all need to come to central Florida and South of Ocala and north of Tampa. Eat some of this good food and meet some folks.
    Edit - Its pronounced muh-zark-town. You guys should look for places to pronounce around that area. Trillacoochee, withlacoochee, trilbacoochee etc.

    I only knew how to pronounce Oviedo because in high school I looked at moving there since it still was giving me the small town southern feel and in my favorite state.

    Oklawhaha, Panasoffkee, Occoe, The Halpata Tastanaki, Homosassa, Ozello, these are where I grew up! Fishing on Apopka then going up to Palatka, or down to Narcoossee to get some bass, good times! I miss the weather, but I don't miss the people (tourists, I'm giving you the stink eye!).
