I found Band-Maid at about the same time you did and in about the same manner. "Thrill" had appeared in my TH-cam suggestions several times, but I avoided watching because the "leggy" French maid costumes implied that they were a pop idol group. When I finally relented I was pleasantly surprised, but not hooked. Their "Day of the Maid" video with "Manners/Black Hole' was next. Interesting. Then I watched "Blooming", "Dice", "Bubble", and I was getting very interested.
Then I watched "ONSET" and that one blew my mind.
All I knew was that the guitarist seemed to be channeling The Edge, Eddie Van Halen, and Carlos Santana simultaneously, the bassist was funkily slapping and picking interchangeably to devastating effect, while the rhythm guitar was joyously thrashing away, filling in the gaps, and the drummer was admirably combining the spirits of Charlie Watts, Ginger Baker, and Neil Peart dancing about a metronomic beat. I didn't know their names and wasn't even sure they had two guitars, but "Onset" convinced me that I was witnessing Genius with a capital G. I had to dive down the Band-Maid rabbit hole.
Since then I've attended two Band-Maid Okyu-ji, watched them in two live streams, and acquired a stack of Band-Maid CDs, DVDs, and Blu Ray discs over 8 inches tall, more than any other band in my collection that dates back to when I bought my first Black Sabbath album (Vol.4) in 1972. I've joined their fan club and have membership in Band-Maid Prime. No other Band has engaged me more. I rank Band maid in the same league as Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Rush, The Stones, The Beatles, Steely Dan. Their song writing is on a par with Lennon-McCartney.
Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" and "Eclipse" always get me singing along and bring a tear to my eye, but Band-Maid does that to me with "Page", "Smile", "Daydreaming", "About Us", "Memorable" and even "From Now On". More than any other band I have listened to over the last 50 years. When asked, a Maidiac will not be able to point out *one song* that makes Band-Maid worth a listen. everything they have released is at a level of excellence any band would envy. It's All Good.

This is for many of us our first introduction into this amazing group and band. With those three words uttered by future rock and roll legend Miku Kobato, Breaking New Gate. So many of us did not know what we were in store for some years later. This is where it all began and the legend was hatched. Take care and be well.

"They're just everything, all at the same time." This made me chuckle because it's really so true about how they execute a song.

On the Thrill reaction you sounded like Sgt Schultz. "I see NOTHING! I know NOTHING!"
After a year or more of listening to Band-Maid, now you understand a bit more having a back ground.
This music is so much fun and the music so well written that I have to listen to it.
    Their genre is Band-Maid.
Have you seen them live yet?

Thrill one of the early videos and if you look carefully you can see Miku isn't playing her guitar. She apparently started taking lessons from Kanami not long after, and she quickly learned to play. This is still one of my favourite Band-Maid songs.

One of them faked playing guitar (1st clip) .... but she rapidly learned.

Kanami can shred with the best of them but she will never do more than what the song needs. She writes them. Miku (red flower) writes the lyrics.

I noticed the Zakk Wylde guitar in you rack. Yes, the story of Miku (Band Founder/Lyrics/Second vocals/Guitar) be taught guitar by Lead guitarist kanami. Without Miku there is no Band-Maid.

Your right, Band Maid is a hard rock/punk band with metal influence and pop vocals. Except that the vocals, with their pop esthetic, are really just another instrument in the ensemble. Check out Rinne, From Now On, and Black Hole. You'll love 'm.

I think it's pretty obvious to come to the conclusion. After listening to maybe five songs by them. That they are basically a rock/hardrock group. That mixes and matches and incorporates multiple genres in their songs and music. There you go I made it easy for you. Take care and be well.

Kanami for me is a Mozart level composer on the way she can arrange songs (layer upon layer ... And in the last couple of years she's been pushing the other band members to take a more active lead in the music creation and it's been working out so good.)
If you want to see Kanami let loose them you need to see one of their best tunes 'From Now On' (I'm not a big instrumental fan but man this is your 'Classical Gas' level playing.)
Yeah, Miku, the 2nd guitar player (and who actually started the band) was going to be the last singer, but she decided early on that hey voice war just not string enough to be lead on the type of music she wanted to do, so she decided to do backups and learn to play guitar.)
I'm of the opinion that Kanami (guitar player and arranger) is a freaking God, and if you want to hear more of her fantastic playing (other than in instrumentals, which they do several) then for songs my favorite that showcase her playing are:
Choose Me (by the time the 2nd chorus ends you can tell she's taking over the song ... )
Blooming (again, 2nd chorus and the rest of the band might as well go home.)
Daydreaming (Rick ballad, short, but incredibly sweet and tasteful solo)
Wonderland (prog/rock-jazz, another short, but incredible solo)
And exception. As I said I think Kanami is a God, but there's one song they do where she was trying to get the rest of the band to take a more active role in arranging the songs. This was on their alter ego band called 'Band-Mako'. In this case Kanami didn't take any lead parts, she allowed the bass and the drums to be the instruments doing all the fills and riffs that she would have normally been doing. This is one of my favorite songs, and as I said Kanami the Goddess of guitar wasn't playing any lead parts. But you have to admire how she inspired the rest of the band to take up the slack in such an amazing way. Oh the name of the song is 'Gion-Cho'!

Very perceptive! BAND-MAID don't really have a genre. They encompass them all. Or rather, they are a genre unto themselves, shapeshifting between them, sometimes within the same song. Power Pop, Rock, Punk, Funk, Metal, Classical, Traditional and Jazz. It's all in there, even acoustic ballads. They are Musician's Musicians.

You have it perfectly OK. The rhythm guitarist (Miku) could not play guitar in the Thrill video. It was just a prop. Actually, Miku is the founder of this band. She worked in a maid café and had this idea to create a rock band with maid theme, and she should be the singer. And she managed to collect three fantastic instrumentalists, Kanami (the lead guitarist), MISA (the basist) and Akane (the drummer). It did not go well and the band was not making it. Then Miko decided they needed a better singer. And she got Saiki. Eventually they made the Thriller video. It was a hit and it all loosened from then on. But, the story was about Miko not playing guitar. No she did not. And eventually Kanami decided that this needed a change, so she started to learn Miku to play rhythm guitar. And now, some years later, she is a perfect fit for Band-Maid. She even sometimes do some crazy stuff.
Then, of course, there is the side story that Miku is a pigeon, po.
