Ryan Mear has listened to many Band-Maid songs and he now says that Kanami is the most complete guitar player and composer he has ever heard. Ever!
He goes on to say that he hasn't fallen in love with a band this fast in decades. If that's not a great compliment, what is?

I was actually going to say the same thing, but decided to look for who had beaten me to it.....
Dice is the first Band-Maid song I ever heard, and I was hooked immediately. You are correct about their looks having little to do with their appeal. Tell Rosie, that even if they all looked like Danny Devito, they would be the greatest rock band on the planet right now.
Great reaction. I love hearing a musician explain why I love them so much. This was the first Band Maid song I ever listened to. I could not believe how good they are and they haven't disappointed me yet.

i grew up during the 70s & 80s and would dearly have loved to see how people reacted to bandmaid if they would have come back then i believe shock would be putting it mildly
I saw Band-Maid on September 30, 2019. But that was not the last big show pre Covid. On October 9, 2019 l saw the Who and Liam Gallagher. And my last show was Aftershock here in Sacramento. Tool and Korn headlined but number three on the bill was Babymetal. And now for signs of hope. Tomorrow, right here in my backyard Aftershock 2021 has returned. 4 sold out days at Discovery Park headlined by Metallica. Daily attendance of 40,000 for four days. Metallica promises each of their sets will have different songs so if you come more than one day you will not see the same show. You must have proof of vaccination to attend. I went through all of this to show folks with a little common sense life will return and very quickly. Long live Band-Maid. Long live rock. My last concert before the pandemic was Japanese (Ningen Isu on 20 February 2020 at the Zeche Bochum, where BAND-MAID had played the summer before) and my first one after that can gladly be Japanese again. But it has to be before 20 July 2022, because that's when Iron Maiden comes to my home town. At least something with Maid.
Dice was my introduction to Band Maid on another reaction channel (Tank the Tech, the guy is awesome love his channel btw) and man I'm still searching my jaw since that day 🤣🤣 I was mindblowned like I've nerver been before this song will always have a special place my heart
Actually, it's unfair, but with many songs you just have to apply the saying of one of your colleagues: 'Welcome to the Akane Show'. Her work and creativity on the drums is so hugely important to the impact and energy of their songs. Akane alone is able to leave other complete bands out in the rain, but as a group together with the others, they always create something magical. :) 🥁

"Thrill" was my first video from them and caught my interest. "Dice" was my second and the first fifteen seconds made me a maidiac for life. Still one of my favorites and will always hold a special place in my heart.
Same here! Thrill was my first, and I got interested in this band. So I decided to check some more, and Dice and Domination (live) were my 2nd and 3rd. I was hooked ever since.

Hey Wave.Your one comment struck a nerve with me, because my wife and daughter said the same thing (that I love Band Maid because they're cute). My immediate sarcastic response was, "of course women would never like a band or singer because the guys are cute". Looks will only go so far with me. There are plenty of hot shredders on Instagram, many are forgettable. For a while I blew off Band Maid when I first saw them on my TH-cam feed because they were actually "too cute" looking. When I finally came around, my jaw was on the floor. They are a breath of fresh air in rock from scowling ugly guys dressed in black and playing everything that they know in 30 seconds. Also a special shout out to Miku with her "power harmonies" that she sings while playing not easy and typical rhythm guitar. Saiki doesn't get enough accolades, I think because she is always perfect and spot on in every song. Keep up your insightful review/analysis.

@@armynurseboy pretty much "They're ok, I don't get it". My wife is pretty much about pop music form the 70s-90s, my daughter is about 90s late 2000s pop music and country. I on the other hand have been a musician over 45 years. I have always listened to female artists. I honestly think that they are judging a book by it's cover like I was. They are not the most discriminating as far as talent goes. Also they don't get the whole maid image. They are like too many Americans who will not give any non english music a chance.
I dismissed them in the beginning in the same way. I don’t really care if they look like goat herders in their 70s with massive moustaches and unibrows. I listen because their music is fresh, uplifting, interesting and very energetic.
@@sugoruyo I told my wife that I wouldn't care if they dressed in mariachi outfits and wore Viking helmets. Talent is talent, and Band Maid has it in every department. I ain't going to lie they are not hard to look at.
That's the story of most Band-Maid fans. My friends and family think the same about me. Some of them get it when I show them Onset.
They have their own sound for sure, nothing like them. One of the most satisfying aspects for me is the tone MISA gets from her rig. I feel she is the most accomplised musician, the most outstanding.
I like your comment Jim but as much as I admire MISA when I think about Akane. I can't go there. Thankfully I don't have to. Holy moley this band has taken their talent and combined it with hard work to achive greatness.
@@chrisegbertky Maybe a better wording is I think MISA is the best bassist around today. Where as Akane is among to best for drummers.
Kanami is a great guitar player, but her writing is the kicker for me.
Saiki, a lead singer that seems to go out of her way to not overshadow the others. The anti-David Lee Roth.
And Miku is just pure magic in a human body. There is nothing about this band I don't enjoy.
I hope the merch I ordered last month from Japan shows up soon!
Anyways I am not saying my opinion is right or wrong, I just remember noticing how much that bass grabbed my attention right off the bat. I'll say it again, they have the group dynamics to rival the Beatles. And that is my official ultimate compliment to this band.

I think many people say, "I was looking into the rabbit hole with a dubious face, and the intro of this song kicked my butt into the hole." Saiki sings like this at the beginning of his lyrics. "There is no turning back." That's right.
Great as always.👍 You've probably seen Akane's new video on BM Prime. She plays "Dice." 😁 Absolutely fantastic. She makes it look so easy. You get the impression she has time to bake a cake on the side. ☺
And all done with a smile on her face as she sings along! Mind you, compared to what Kanami asked of her on the last album, "Dice" probably is pretty straightforward stuff by comparison.

I can always count on WP to give an insightful and thoughtful reaction. I remember a guy a few years back, who was also a "musician", thought this song was very "predictable" and "average" at best. He got so slammed in the comments that he posted a whole video where he tried to breakdown why he was right and everyone else was wrong.
It did not go well . . .
I remember that but I thought it was Blooming he reacted to if we are thinking of the same guy????? Reason I remember it being Blooming is he talked during Kanami's solo and folks slammed him for that as well. But I guess we won't know for sure since he deleted his channel.:)

Thanks for this one, this is the first song I heard from them and I had a flashback to the first time I heard Zep back in 69'. After listening to all their songs, I'd put B-M up there with Zep as one of the best rock bands of all time.

Have to agree. LZ are my all time favs, but BM have moved into 2nd place passing Bad Company and ACDC and I was only introduced to BM this past March. Can they pass LZ as my all time favs? Only time will tell.

MISA gets a juicy bass tone from her instrument. And that chorus just SWINGS :)
MISA MISA MISA! this song was a LITERAL life changer for me I went from somebody that liked music and listened to it every now and then to an Absolute Fanboy that HAS to listen to Music every day (and at least 2 or 3 Band-Maid songs). I went into huge debt to fly to the US (from Australia) to watch them Live ( my Holidays Time did not work for a Japanese trip), have not regretted a single Moment or Cent.
May be to Japan next time. With some luck can see Lovebites as well.

Throw Rosie off the scent...I mean prove to Rosie that Band-Maid's appearance is immaterial to you...by playing their songs all the time , in the car, around the house, on your phone, etc and saying things like "I love how Band-Maid sound!".
There's someone in my home who has a preconceived uninformed bias against Band Maid because of the costumes, claiming that they are too reveling or some other nonsense, I showed her a picture of probably the most concervitave outfits and still got no acknowledgement that BM isn't a sexy group of idol's, some people want to h8 just because they're stupid, jealous, untalented, racists, or a litany of other reasons, they can go f themselves, the outfits have never been anything that draws me to Band Maid, it's all about the music!

@@tonygriffin_ Lol, did that with a friend. I sent him nameless MP3 (called Song 1, Song 2 and Song 3) so he couldn't look them up on the internet. He said that it was OK, but he couldn't understand the lyrics.. lol... so I then gave him the link to the TH-cam videos... In the end he said he didn't like female voices in Rock, he needs a grungy growling voice... sigh... and he plays guitar! That is why I tried this, I was so sure he would love Kanami-san's playing, but no, prejudice was the winner...
I used to think ''they can't go on wearing maid costume forever can they?" and I really didn't get it, but it grew on me because I love most of their songs.
@@JGM0JGM Sadly, I think we've all found this can be a common thing...though I'm still amazed when friends my own age (60) who have long personal experience of great music from the 60's onwards just don't get it. I've tried explaining the complexity of the compositions, the skills required to play them, the camaraderie and friendship and respect for each other in the band, etc (even, for a couple of long-time friends who saw Zeppelin with me back in 79, the fact that Jimmy Page asked Akane for a selfie, which is quite an endorsement) but nothing gets through. I hooked a couple of friends with Onset and No Holding Back as they were instrumentals and impressive ones too but once I gave them a song with Saiki singing, they moaned they couldn't understand it. Now I just enjoy Band-Maid and don't try enlightening the world - the ladies will still dominate the world one day!
I'm glad you finally watched "Dice". I watched it numerous times the first day that I got intro'd to Band-Maid, a few years ago. I think "Dice" was the 2nd or 3rd video I watched that day, with the other 2 being the MVs of "Thrill" and "Order", and ever since, I grouped those 3 songs together in my head. So, I guess for you, "Order" is next. haha
At this point I'm pretty sure Saiki doesn't need to breathe. They've got so many songs she just keeps going and going without taking a breath.
Nobody can replace Saiki!
Puzzle always stood out to me in that respect. Her breath control was perfect in that live version.

Agree about their talent. MISA, Akane & Kanami are at god level, and Miku is no slouch on guitar & is a pretty darned good songwriter.

Mind blowing composing, arranging and performance. I am in thrall to Kanami and her amazing talent and ability. I cannot work out when Saiki breathes - she has amazing control. And all the band members' performance is off the scale.
I'm just finnished with a 2,5 year long thesis about Band-Maids overall best song.

Imagine you're a guy that's been searching for the last 15 years for music that inspires you. Music that gives you adrenaline rushes. Music that gives you chills. Music that you were pretty sure didn't exist anymore. Then, imagine you clicked on the video for "Dice". You discover that the music, the sound, the feeling you'd been searching so long for was being created...no "crafted" by 5 Japanese women in maid's outfits... and it was BETTER than you could have EVER hoped. This is Band-Maid and they are the best, most complete, most talented band of my lifetime. Thanks Wave!

A Band-Maid anthem. A pop-punk masterclass. Sometimes it gets lost in the discussion because of the ludicrously high quality of the B-M catalog... but this is a great song.

I still trying to understand why a very few say most of their songs sounds the same. I'm not sure if they are haters, very little comprehension of things, or what..
Band constructs the melody in several precisely arranged layers of multiple instruments (and singing). I think, it sounds like a symphony and many people think all symphonies sounds the same. Until you listen to it several times and start to find detail after detail. Or you are a professional musician (Or an experienced listener) who can separate and hear the different layers. For this reason, I think you can listen to Band’s songs no matter how many times and enjoy and find something new every time.
They are vapid and irreflective and should be ignored.

In this song, to me as far as Akane ... it's not so much about what she's is playing, but what she is NOT playing. The rests in all her rhythms are what make her drumming interesting here.

What? A Band-Maid song that Wave hasn't reacted to before? Yes, this is a showcase for Akane's drumming, but really, what song isn't? Kanami can say more in a 15 seccong solo than most guitarists can in a span three or four times that long, lol. Love this song, but I can say that about pretty much all of their songs.
If anyone say I like them for their looks, I'll show them bands that looks better than Band Maid, I'd say, Band Maid try as hard as they can to look as good as others the same way as they try their hardest to make music that sound better than others,
