Great Reaction. This is the early stuff. Really solid and straight forward. The Drummer gets more and more busy after this. I'd do any of their Live stuff. Take Me Higher live version is fantastic with a Bass/Guitar Duel that will blow you away.

Mira, from the channel Level Blue is head over heels in love with Saiki, the main singer. As is Kanami, the lead guitarist. So I believe it’s possible for other women to like and enjoy Band Maid. Oh and another favorite channel of mine that’s an English speaking Japanese couple is Sandz. His wife Emi is with him in all the vids and they both LOVE Band Maid. Here’s hoping your girlfriend is as cool as Emi! I subscribed in the hope that you’ll continue exploring my favorite band/obsession. 💪🏻🤘🏻

this is one of thier first songs and its great. they have only gotten better in time. Kanami is a master guitarist. and MISA is an Bass Assassin. Akane is beast on the drums. The Pigeon Miku on the Rhythm and a Queen on the Lead singer. Welcome Maid-iac.

@@DecvsJapan I don't know the last time I gave a crap about a band's drummer enough to actually be impressed by them. But Akane has changed that lol. That girl beats those things like they owe her money! And the level of technical skill she displays is phenomenal. And she is ALWAYS smiling. That last bit really makes it, the sheer joy she displays whilst playing. And yes, she does that for real at live shows, it's definitely not just for videos.
Dec, y'know what I'd do if I was in my 20s, living in Japan, spoke Japanese, had a TH-cam channel, and had musical talent of my own? I'd build the channel by focusing on these bands. Go crazy on them and do videos on them and about them. Not just reacting to the music for the first time, but read up on them in the local music media. Then be the window for the western fans into the local music scene. Post my videos to all the western Facebook fan groups.
Your living in Japan and speaking Japanese gives you potentially a unique perspective that other TH-cam reaction channels can't compete with. (I did the English teaching thing in Taiwan in the 90s, so its easy to imagine doing it again in Japan today as a young man again.)
For more Band-Maid recommendations, as usually, ALL of them. But anything Live from them is even better. Onset and Take me Higher are my two favorites.
Daniel Glenn I do wish more foreigners listened to this music because I’m astounded at myself for not having discovered these bands sooner! I’ll be hitting a few more popular bands that’s for sure but I want to expand my music knowledge too by listening to new bands. It’s finding that sweet spot that will get subscribers and also keep me interested lol.

@@DecvsJapan Listening to more bands is my point. Browsing through reactors channels I see Band-Maid getting the spikes in views (and deservedly so IMO), but there are a ton of other fantastic bands over there. If you can become a gateway for Western listeners into the local music scene there it would greatly expand the channel. In time with enough work you'd probably get to meet and interview the different bands. If you are stuck in the English teaching grind this might be a good way to escape (although you'd probably have to get a lot more fluent in your Japanese).
So I'd expand your type of videos past Reactions to the bands and add informational stuff about the bands to start. See if you can find info that is only in Japanese you can relay to your subscribers. If you can build enough of a following Patreon could be a good path.

Dec vs Japan I loved teaching and missed it until I had kids of my own. My experience teaching is something I will always savor. But teaching in Taiwan was always a dead end and I knew it. I got married and I dragged her back to the US because I knew her and my income potential state side was about 8 times what it was there. I imagine Japan is different though.
I suggest going for "Take me Higher", "Puzzle" or "Play" with the live concert versions. They do have something with Babymetal in common, as they are even more fun when listening to the live recordings :)

'Thrill' is a great song, but they've only gotten better since recording that early one.
'The Non-fiction days' (2016), 'Secret My Lips' (2017), and 'Dice' (2018) are great to start with.
Pretty sure I mentioned this a month ago with your first BAND-MAID reaction, but be sure to react to 'Secret My Lips' BEFORE reacting to the special April 1st version 'Secret Maiko Lips'. Trust me on this one.

BTW, we were all "Thrilled" when they played this song for the first time in 2018 at the Los Angeles concert in October. They even mentioned in an interview that they were surprised and happy to hear the "Hey!" shouts during the song, even with their ear monitors in. : )

Akane's (the drummer) favorite drummer is the drummer from Maximum the Hormone...... true fact :D. There used to be a video of her playing one of their songs to prove that she could really play drums I guess. Misa and Kanami also had videos but all three have now been pulled from the group's channel :(

Completely agree. Go with the studio version where you can really hear the staccato rhythm of the double-kick that Akane lays down.

You should check them out live. They kick ass live. As a drummer you'll fall in love with Akane's drumming. She is amazing and hardcore on that kit and still cute as hell with her little hat she always wears {I have no idea how that thing stays on her head when she is thrashing around drumming}.

Jimmy Page loves them. I love them. They are the best hard rock band on the planet today. I wish they could get a shot on American television. Saturday Night Live or the Late Show with Steven Colbert would be ideal. They effortlessly cross national, cultural and age barriers in a way few groups have ever done. They are true individual personalities that work so very well together. Almost like the total is greater than the sum of the parts. I wish them every possible success.

Ron Ayala You reckon? I’ve been a bit overwhelmed recently so all videos I’m uploading were done ages ago. Hold on a bit longer and it will definitely be reacted to! That and ‘Play’!
A bit of history about this song (Thrill). While the group formed in 2103 their first mini-album (Maid in Japan) came out in early 2014. However, those songs are a bit bland and the record was not a success. (I've read somewhere that they were in danger of splitting up even.) But then came Thrill, out of the single "Love, Passion, Matador" in mid-2014 and it became a hit with its harder, edgier sound. Their second album, (A new beginning, 2015) managed to get up on the japanese billboard and every album since then has climbed higher up than the previous.
So whats interesting about this song is that its their first video and marks the time around where they started to become successful. And its not hard to see why.

@@DecvsJapan Both are great! Domination's music video has a slightly cheeky (sp? I'm american) allusion towards Trump with a heavy reference towards Russian propaganda art. It definitely got a chuckle out of me! XD As a design professional, I really loved the art in it!

@@DecvsJapan OMG! Yes! A few days ago actually. The intro reminds me of Matalica's "Unforgiven." Aldious took me by surprise. I haven't looked into their origins as much as Band-Maid yet so I don't know a whole to about their back story but they're pretty awesome! I come from a drumming background and it's always amazing to find hard rock bands from other countries. :D
Mark Charcas me too! I love a good drummer and often I’ll only focus on the drum sounds haha. That’s why j-pop doesn’t stick with me as it’s all synth. At least some western pop will have real drums!
This was the first song I'd heard of theirs, and was instantly hooked! No dominant egos here, everyone has their moment to shine! Part of why I'm so smitten with them. (Musically speaking. )

For something a little different from them Matchless gum live ( B side of a single) is killer , also Awkward live from the same show. Puzzle is amazing live as well and if you want to listen to some more bands check out Mutant Monster and Anarchy Stone from Japan, Elephant Gym from Taiwan and Eruca Sativa from Argentina

I just mentioned that 2016 Comic Con video to another Band-Maid "reactor". To me it's amazing what's she's doing in that song "Alone". I was blown away by that video! I agree on both Matchless Gum and Awkward. Great songs live!

Indeed. They are one of the best live bands I have seen in a long, long time. Great live show! I can't wait to see them again and they tour heavily in Japan as well.
I just got a ticket for Million Rock to get to see all these amazing J-ROCK bands live!!! Can't wait! Coldrain, My first story, bandmaid, a crowd of rebellion, 9mm PB.… sadly can only go to the 1st day, so will miss many other amazing ones. Can't wait!
Fantastic review lol!! You managed to see your first two videos in the same order I did - Real Existence, followed by Thrill. Gotta say, not a bad way to start this journey. And I sometimes forget how amazing of a song Thrill is, because - believe it or not - it's actually pretty weak in comparison with so much of their newer stuff.
It's SO hard to pick recommendations for your next listen, but... here's a few good ones.
1. The non-fiction days - You mentioned this one. Do it. You won't regret it. One of their heavier songs, and the double-kick here might melt your face off. The lead guitar solo in the middle is also amazing, one of their best imho.
2. Play (live) - This will break you into their live videos. You're welcome. The opening of this has more featuring of the drummer and bassist, and it's a classic among fans. Just fantastic.
3. I'm torn here. For another live, and hands down the heaviest song they play, check out "Onset". It's an instrumental, and they all have their moment, and... if you're not sure yet how insanely talented the lead guitarist is, this will answer that question for you.
For another studio version instead, I recommend "Alone". It's the first song that THEY wrote themselves that their label approved for the album. It's a lighter one, but I may be using that word loosely. Very very groovy.

I've always thought of these girls as the spiritual successors of motorhead. A "Ace of spaids" cover wouldn't even be strange, and you couple easily put lemmy over the instrumentals and it would fit like a glove.
Crazy story about this band tho, the first time I went to japan they were playing in Tokyo but the only way to get tickets was via lottery, I won the lottery n got tickets but then found out the show was the same day we were going to fuji, I was so fucking bummed out.
I'm kinda skittish about suggesting things lol I don't wanna see you get a strike n then take it out on the bands lol. Have you ever thought about having a test channel? Post a video there first n if it gets flagged it doesn't ruin this channel lol
delbomb3131 that’s a good idea! Too much effort for me though haha. I think the videos that get copyright strikes are ones that disable comments. I’ve noticed a pattern now. Shame about bandmaid for you though but Fuji is awesome! That’s where I dislocated my shoulder for the first time and went into shock! Good times.

"Thrill" is B-M classic song that got them attention (got viral on Facebook with over 2mil in 1st week.) after their first mini-album(pop-rock) which got them terrible review and almost broke their band.

The outfits were a little disconcerting/embarrassing for me at first too. I've got a friend who spent a fair amount of time over there as an active musician back the 90s that was embarrassed to show me and his friends this for years until I called him up to tell him I'd found this great band (just a few months ago). Since then he's told people and they've all come back with positive reactions. It didn't take me but a few days to get over the outfits and point out that Kiss and others all dress up. What's the difference? I mean, in the English speaking West, Rock has pretty much died. So I introduce them by telling them, Rock hasn't died, it just moved to Japan and donned cutesy French Maid outfits (and Prom Dresses AKA Aldious etc.). Or just play the stuff without the video for them. The music speaks for itself.
