    I know Chemical Guys get's bashed a lot on their products, but honestly, their leather serum is one of the best value's in leather protection products there is. (NOTE: This is a leather PROTECTANT and CONDITIONER, not a cleaner). I have been detailing for over 40+ years and have literally used thousands of products over the years. This product is very good. It "soaks" (if you want to call it that) into the pores of the leather coating itself used by manufacturer's to "coat" your leather with a durable but flexible coating and has an ability to rehydrate the coating somewhat. The coating itself is permeable and will absorb the protective serum. Trust me, I was skeptical but based on a recommendation I gave it a shot. I was happy I did. I've actually been finding quite a few Chemical Guys' products that are surprisingly good products and are some of the best values in detailing. For any new detailer starting out, Chemical Guys is definitely a brand that you should consider for their vast array of products #1, and secondly, because they do actually work as advertised. Their leather cleaner is another one that is a great value. Use the cleaner on your leather prior to using the protectant. Scrub vigorously with a microfiber cloth and wipe away any dirt residue. Then simply let dry (or close to dry as the cleaner flashes away pretty quickly after wiping) and apply this product liberally with an applicator or even just rub it in with your hands (my preferred method because I can quickly apply the product and work it into the leather surface) and allow it to soak in. The longer the wait, the better. I usually let it soak overnight. Sometimes that is all that is needed and it will look like a matte new leather. Sometimes if all of the product didn't soak in after the wait, and you have slight blotches, simply buff the entire area you applied and it with a microfiber cloth and it will level off and be matte in appearance. There should never be "shine" on your leather. Shine means "dirt" normally, usually deposited over months or years of continual use. All that "shine" must be first cleaned away leaving a fresh, matte, and "new" appearance to the leather. The cleaner has no scent. The protectant however does have a pleasant new leather smell. The bottle will also last you a LONG LONG time. If you are buying the 16oz bottle as a weekend warrior, you probably have enough for many many years of use. If you are a pro detailer or just someone starting a detailing business, this should still give you many many applications. They also make half gallon and gallon sizes for professionals. If you want to see a world renowned detailer using a myriad of Chemical Guys products in a professional setting, check out "RED DETAILS" on TH-cam. He is a master detailer and uses Chemical Guys stuff in most of his videos. Start back at the beginning and you'll see him using a lot of Chemical Guys stuff.

      Question, I hear conflicting info regarding car leather, some say it has a coating that does not allow "conditioning" products to "soak in" but then others swear by it?

    • @joevanseeters2873
      @joevanseeters2873 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@89unica There is some value to conditioning the leather or whatever they coat the bare leather with. Supposedly it's a permeable coating that does allow some pass through of conditioning products. At the least it may keep the coating itself from drying out as it is a flexible coating. I only do the conditioning once a year or so. I put it on pretty heavy and let it sit for a day or so and wipe off the excess if there is any at all. Then I usually use something like Gyeon Leather Coat as a maintenance product every 3 months along with routine vacuuming and wiping down the leather with a damp microfiber cloth soaked (and wrung out thoroughly) with rinseless wash. This method works for me but other people might have their own way of keeping their leather in like new condition. The key I have found it just keeping it clean really helps to preserve it for a long time and just use products designed for leather as some other products might be too harsh and could possiblly strip off the coating. Eventually the coating does wear away (it takes years usually) and then putting a ceramic coating designed for leather would most assuredly be beneficial to put something back on top of the leather to preserve it longer. Colourlock makes a coating refresher that's easy to use after years of use called "PROTECTOR". They have SHIELD and PROTECTOR. PROTECTOR is the one designed for leather 3 years or older. Then you can use SHIELD as a maintenance product or something like Gyeon Leather Coat which is a quick wipe on, wipe off product that you can quickly spray over the leather in a quick wipe down and "refresh" every so often. Simple steps that work great when you have products that are specifically designed to maintain leather or manufactured/synthetic leather.
