Pan, is there anything that will minimize the creases on the sides of the leather seats? Both front seats on the side next to the doors have creases on them.
Pan, I started a Garage remodel/ Organization business back in January with detailing as a “side gig”. Turns out the Detailing is what exploded. I’m typically booked at least a month in advance. Thank you for doing a tutorial on maintaining perforated leather seats, been avoiding it for two years because I wasn't sure if I could do it on my Mercedes S550. You ROCK Pan!
3:55 only a tip that comes from experience. Would’ve never thought to sand the edge of the vacuum cleaner nozzle but hearing him say it instantly makes sense
I think a better way to go would be to use an Upholstery" brush. This is a vacuum attachment that has bristles on the end. Just like the ones used on regular house vacuums.

Hey Pan. Very informative video. Thank you for all the help. Last year I bought a brand new car, and I paid a detailer to apply ceramic coating on the leather. Unfortunately he applied too much coating and didn’t remove the excess. Some spots on the seats are more shiny than it was supposed, looking like it is dirty. Is there any technique to remove this shiny? Or the only solution is to dye the leather? Thank you man. Greetings from Brazil.

I take the soft part of velcro (not the abrasive size) and wrap the vacuum attachment; also use a brush attachment as it helps get into the nooks and crannies. 😉

@@PanTheOrganizer yes!!! Much bether. My old A6 got ripped because i never did this. With my a5 i had to do this. I found your Chanel many years ago randomly found this video after looking up how to clean leather car seats
Back in 05 i bought a new ford taurus with leather seats and i obsessively took care of them. When i sold the car even the drivers seat was just about perfect, you could see where the leather flexed, but there were NO signs of cracking, the biggest were was just sections of baby butt soft leather. Only had the car for 80k miles, but those seats were beautiful. Even though you read things saying that modern leather is sealed, conditioners are a "feel good thing", etc, continued attention with conditioners and moisturizers does enable them to make their way in the hide over time. If i ever have leather again i'm doing the same thing.
@@toffeltoffel7589 just by constantly using lexol conditioner (and sometimes the cleaner, but very rarely... Only when jeans stains or dirt showed up). I only used that easy to find / average conditioner, but especially in the summer i'd hand rub the conditioner in and leave the seats wet to soak in the heat, and sometimes i'd leave it if i was leaving for a weekend and i'd buff off the remains later. Nothing expensive, but i just did it often. Guess what i meant to say with my original comment is keeping up on it with anything is better than getting expensive or designer products and rarely doing it.
Hi Pan. Thanks for everything you do for the community. Quick Q: What product(s) would you recommend someone use on a top grain leather sofa? I know it isn't a car interior.. but I figured the shape of furniture shouldn't matter so much...? I read Leather 2.0 is only good on finished leather.. and I don't think top grain would qualify.. (purchased the Positano leather sofa from costco in grey) THANKS!
Hi PAN, so modern day leather” is already coated when it leaves the factory? What about older cars.... classic cars that are 30 plus years old? Wouldn’t you use a different set of products and procedures? I use saddle soap on my leather seats and then Connelly Leather conditioner or Lexol? Would love to know your thoughts because I know you do your research. Thanks.
Thanks for the awesome video Pan! I have the same seats in black. Love them but I don’t like that the inside of the perforated holes is not painted.. looks the same on yours. Do you have sensatec on your dashboard? Would you also use gyeon leather shield on that or something else?
Just did this process last weekend with the P&S Interior Cleaner and Colourlock. Bought both on your recommendation over the last year! Now you’ve got me wondering if I should go the ceramic coating route...
Both are excellent. Coatings are great if you want 10-12 months of protection, but the Colourlock works wonders too you just need to reapply every three months. I love both methods.
Another great video - informative and instructional. The advice re gloves is terrific - if you're handling anything chemical, treat it as toxic. (I can tell horror stories about people who didn't.) The list of products is also invaluable.
Good job.👍🏽I have been detailing only for 12 months, clients and budget are limited, I would appreciate your suggestions for less expensive good products to protect leathers after using an apc. Thank you
When do you use a coating over a conditioner? I have a F250 Platinum Super Duty. The manual States Oil and petroleum or silicone-based leather conditioners may cause premature damage. I'm not sure what conditioner I can use ? Given their statement
I treated my leather with the gyeon leather coating and have done the maintenance with the gyeon leather cleaner diluted as instructed in the video. Is there a product to use to get the seats back to the firmness like they were when new?(they are about 2 years old)after the maintenance with the gyeon leather cleaner it does seem to firm them back somewhat but just wondered if any product can get them more firm. Thanks Pan keep the education coming and have a great Sunday

They probably wanted to say "don't use a towel on a dry surface". You would be using a leather cleaner sprayed on the surface or microfiber towel, and cleaning with that. Regardless of what leather you have, leather is leather. This procedure applies to all cars with leather seats, or vinyl surfaces (i.e. fake leather or synthetic leather) as well.

nice one! one tip we use is to take a bit of kamikaze masking tape around the edges of the crevice tool which protects leather & plastic from any potential marring :)
Hello, thank you for your help. I just bought a new vehicle and i was wondering how often would you recommend using the protective coatings onthe leather seats?
Thank you for the comprehensive video, it was very helpful. One silly question about the suede cloth to apply the ceramic, does that need to be washed after each session? Or is it OK just to store as is, once it's applied?
Thanks for the tutorial. My interior leather is saddle with light saddle stitching so it's difficult to clean as it tends to darken when wet. Assuming it does clean up, will the ceramic coat help or prevent the stitching from soiling?
It will help make cleaning a lot easier for sure, and help to protect the surface from being stained or have dye transfer. Keep in mind these coatings are for clear coated leather. If your leather is aniline (no protective polyurethane top coat), then it won't work. To know if you have aniline leather, drop a few drops of water on it. If it soaks in and stays humid, it's aniline. If the water just beads and stays on top, not creating a soaked wet effect, then you have coated leather. 99% of modern leather is coated leather, but in some rare instances, some people have aniline leather. For more on leather care, see a video I made with leather care experts here: th-cam.com/video/pvKJXGRneJg/w-d-xo.html
Can you answer what the difference is in the "strong" and "mild" formulas of gyeon leather cleaners? The makers say they're both safe for all leathers, my question is why would someone pick mild over the strong? Appreciate the knowledge!
I have read that it is best to NOT use protection on leather seats 1 year from new, as also stated in the owners manual on my new RAM Limited truck. Can you advise? We just took delivery of our new C8 Corvette with red interior and have the same concern. However, only 500 miles and there is already transfer from wearing blue jeans on the seats, so I like to hear your thoughts.
New to the game and learning. What is the main difference between using this method vs using the P&S Xpress Interior Cleaner and a leather conditioner?
Hi Kelvin. Modern leather is coated, with a polyurethane type clear coat, much like the principle of the clear coat on your paint. So conditioners aren't needed on modern leather that isn't damaged, as conditioners won't penetrate that top protective layer. What is needed is to protect the leather against friction damage, UV rays, dye transfer, fading, cracking, and make liquid spills easier to clean. Hence why I made this tutorial. You can further your knowledge on leather care in a tutorial I made with some of the best and most known leather care experts in the automotive industry in this video: th-cam.com/video/pvKJXGRneJg/w-d-xo.html Welcome to my channel. Or should I get myself a larger car?🙃
Hi Pan? I am planning to apply leather protection on but i would like to restore the black colour of the seats first. So, are there any recommended colour restorer products . Thanks
Hey Pan, enjoying your site and binging some detailing knowledge now. I have my first new car with leather seats. It's about 6 months old now and was wondering if there are any pro/con to using the Colourblock system you showed for < 3 year vs the Gyeon or Carpro. Are there any advantages to one way vs the other?
The Colourlock sealant lasts 3 months on average. The Gyeon Leather Shield EVO can last up to one year. But even better than both is the new Geist Repel coating. See my review here: th-cam.com/video/HM9NpQYGSuU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RyAuj2lOo79A9w_H
G'day Pan, I'm playing catch-up with your last 2 videos. 2 years ago I protected my new cars leather seats with Car Pro Quartz Leather. I have a couple of questions that you may be able to answer. How do you remove the existing coating from the leather seats before applying another coating? All my passenger seats have not had anyone sit in them, front passenger (3 people) in 2 years. Would the coating still be good or does the coating deteriorate over time whether they have been sat in or not? Thoroughly enjoyed the video. Ozz.
Would you kindly comment on the Colourlock product vs the other two for a new car with white interior? I am very torn on which product to get. Seems like Colourlock is not ceramic coating but CarPro and Gyeon.
Thank you for the video Pan. This video popped up just in time. I am going to protect my leather seats on my new X5. I have already purchased Gyeon Leather Shield and this video is perfect! Question: Will the Leather Shield protect/ condition the leather or do I need to condition the leather prior to applying the ceramic coating? Thank you again for this and all your videos!
Conditioners aren't needed on new modern leather. They don't penetrate the plastic clear coat that lies on top of the leather. So it's best to clean it, and protect it from dye transfer, UV rays, fading, friction damage, etc. Like in this tutorial. Also, we dive deeper into everything related to leather in a video I made with leather experts from world leading Colourlock in this video: th-cam.com/video/pvKJXGRneJg/w-d-xo.html
@@PanTheOrganizer I did go through both of the videos. But if you look at the perforated seats, the leather is not coated in the holes. Does it make sense to condition that leather or the shield is enough? I really want to protect the seats the best I can... :)

I have been detailing for 27 years and I love to share my knowledge and passion with my viewers. You found the right channel to help you learn everything about detailing. On a brand new car, you should absolutely start protecting the leather. But you don't need a conditioner. Conditioners don't penetrate the leather's top coat (polyurethane clear coat). Conditioners are only used on older worn leather that has micro cracks, so the conditioner can penetrate to the leather hide. What you need on new leather is to protect with a leather sealant or leather coating, against dye transfer, friction damage, fading, cracking, and make them easier to clean. Just like I showed in this video. Exactly like in this video. You clean the leather and then coat it to protect against fading, dye transfer, friction damage, etc How did you discover my channel by the way Justin?
@@PanTheOrganizer Thanks for the reply! That is very reassuring! I found your channel about a year ago just by researching the best spray waxes on TH-cam and started watching your reviews. I have learned to trust what you say.
Love your videos. Just got a new car and looking to protect the leather. So I understand all of these steps but I didn’t see anything about leather conditioners. Is that something that should be incorporated to maintenance to ensure the leather doesn’t dry out and crack over time?
Hi Chris! On new cars, with modern leather, you don't use conditioners. Pretty much all modern leather has a top coat (a clear top layer made from polyurethane, like the clear coat on your paint) and that top coat is impenetrable by the conditioner, so it's pointless to do that step. Conditioners are designed for older, worn and cracked leather, where they can actually penetrate and go moisturize and rejuvenate the hide under the top coat. So for new leather, all that is needed is a good cleaning, and then applying a sealant or leather coating that will prevent fading, cracking, friction damage, dye transfer, and make cleaning the seats much easier. Here's a newer leather protection tutorial I just made: th-cam.com/video/HM9NpQYGSuU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bX331yDwGGHTWaJT Welcome to my channel. Hi Pan -- does this product damage microfiber towels, ie, should I throw them out?
No, just wash them immediately after use and you can reuse them.
Can you use the same leather cleaner for autos on home furniture like leather chairs or recliners as well??
Pan, is there anything that will minimize the creases on the sides of the leather seats? Both front seats on the side next to the doors have creases on them.

Took care...how?
Excellent video! If you stick with the maintenance program, how often would your recommend performing the full (non-diluted) clean and seal?
Colourlock advises every three months. But it will depend on how often you use the car, I guess.

Would you recommend applying coating to the steering wheel ?
Yes I made a video here: th-cam.com/video/ukIuqk8noyk/w-d-xo.html

Hi PAN, so modern day leather” is already coated when it leaves the factory? What about older cars.... classic cars that are 30 plus years old? Wouldn’t you use a different set of products and procedures? I use saddle soap on my leather seats and then Connelly Leather conditioner or Lexol? Would love to know your thoughts because I know you do your research. Thanks.

I have the same seats in black. Love them but I don’t like that the inside of the perforated holes is not painted.. looks the same on yours.
Do you have sensatec on your dashboard? Would you also use gyeon leather shield on that or something else?
No my dash is the normal BMW rubberized plastic.

Great video 🙌🏻 The Mercedes C-Class user manual says, “don’t use microfiber cloth on leather. Use a damp cloth”! Any idea on this?
They probably wanted to say "don't use a towel on a dry surface". You would be using a leather cleaner sprayed on the surface or microfiber towel, and cleaning with that. Regardless of what leather you have, leather is leather. This procedure applies to all cars with leather seats, or vinyl surfaces (i.e. fake leather or synthetic leather) as well.

I use soft99 leather care products to maintain my car leather seats. But I am not sure how frequent should I apply it. Should I apply it every month?
Hello, thank you for your help. I just bought a new vehicle and i was wondering how often would you recommend using the protective coatings onthe leather seats?
If you use a leather sealant, once every 2-3 months. If you use a leather coating like in this video, once a year.
Thank you for the comprehensive video, it was very helpful. One silly question about the suede cloth to apply the ceramic, does that need to be washed after each session? Or is it OK just to store as is, once it's applied?
Once you are done applying, you throw it away.

Wow looks really nice. What would you recommend how to ceramic coat a new car leather seat, do I still have to use the gyeon cleaner?
You can further your knowledge on leather care in a tutorial I made with some of the best and most known leather care experts in the automotive industry in this video: th-cam.com/video/pvKJXGRneJg/w-d-xo.html

Ozz.
Good day! Leather coatings typically only last 12 months. After that point, you simply clean the leather and reapply.

You clean the leather and then coat it to protect against fading, dye transfer, friction damage, etc
How did you discover my channel by the way Justin?
Here's a newer leather protection tutorial I just made: th-cam.com/video/HM9NpQYGSuU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=bX331yDwGGHTWaJT

@@PanTheOrganizer Ahhh Thank you that makes sense. Appreciate your quick response. Looks like I got some shopping to do to get some leather cleaners and protectants next! Thanks again. Keep the videos coming!!
Will do! 👍🏻
I have a new vehicle with red leather seats. I took my first trip and some of the color from my jeans has transferred onto the seat. I have ordered the colourlock new set kit that was on your video. What is the best way to get the transfer from my jeans before putting the leather shield on? Thanks!
Perfect timing for This video Pan , me and the wife are thinking of buying an MdX while we where talking all I was thinking about was ceramic coat paint, and I wonder how difficult it is to do the coat on the leather . Same applies to synthetic leather ? Great video !
Yes the same methods apply to synthetic leathers too. You should watch a tutorial I made with leather experts from Colourlock here: th-cam.com/video/pvKJXGRneJg/w-d-xo.html
@@PanTheOrganizer will do my friend, thanks a lot for the video LOL Perfect timing!
Hi Pan! My daughter drew all over my back leather seat with a pen she found. I tried hot water, soap, APC, goo gone, acetone, rubbing alcohol, sun screen (TH-cam), magic eraser and leather cleaner. None of them seem to work. Any ideas or tricks to removing ink stain from leather?
Hey Pan, Thanks for a very informative video! What are your thoughts on leather love by lithium? Is it worthwhile for protecting your leather seats?
I prefer leather coatings. My favourite one which I applied on my new Porsche in this video: th-cam.com/video/HM9NpQYGSuU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=rwnSdbPJzx1vzHoY
I have a Ram 3500 Longhorn with saddle leather seats. Drivers side seat is slightly fading in color where there is friction. Is there anything I can do to restore the color in addition to cleaning and protect? I’m kicking myself for not maintaining them better… I plead ignorance!
As allways ,informative and educational.
Thanks !!
Great video Pan, enjoyed it. Just got a new car, looking for a product to clean up make up from my wife's hands, black leather. Thank you.
When the first application of protectant or even cleaner/conditioner is applied there will be a slight gloss….how long should it take for the gloss to turn back to the satin/matte finish?
Great tips thanks and keep them up….Many moons ago I was a detailer at auto dealer. A lot of these videos are refresher now that I have a vehicle with leather interior. About 15 years ago I would say you would never catch me dead in leather interior but now…..”me likey likey”
After a few hours of curing, it should be back to its normal sheen, assuming you purchased a quality coating from a reputable company.
In one of your videos you suggested using Gyeon Q2 leather coat. Here your suggesting a ceramic coating protection. I’m new to leather detailing and want to make sure I’m headed in the right direction. Can u provide your insight on these 2 protectants? Finally, what should be used to clean and protect the dash? Again, thanks.
Durability is the main difference. Sprays last 2-6 months, coatings last 6-12 months.
Just subscribed. Great information! How about a video for us non- professional folks/gals that just want to maintain our own vehicles? What products and gear you would recommend if it were your daughter!😂

This is a DIY tutorial. It’s as simple as it gets. You clean and then protect the leather.
Were you referring to other steps of detailing your vehicle? As I have tutorials on pretty much everything. Starting with the basics, how to wash your car here: th-cam.com/video/7Koj5j2Es5U/w-d-xo.html
I love watching your videos! So helpful🙏🏽 I do have a question...after we use the ceramic coating on the leather seats do we need to use a leather serum or anything of that matter? Or the seats are good to go for one year and just wipe with damp cloth every few months...thank you!
I speak about the maintenance procedure towards the end of the video. ;)
Hey Pan! I plan on costing my leather (Recaro Seats) but do you have a method to clean and protect my alcantara?
Nice job Pan.
Can we use this process on leather couches in our home. Does leather furniture have the same characteristics like leather in vehicles ?
Yes you could. Ceramic coating furniture might be long though, so opt for the Colourlock leather shield in that case.
