      I gotta say though the hardest part is a week or two after the surgery. It was the most difficult and painful part of the process and it is very important to have someone there to help you because you can’t do it alone. I constantly moved around with Walker to prevent blood clots. Oh yeah, taking a shower is going to be a challenge and make sure to get the sock puller upper.😊

      For me, it is just the first round... I need to do the other hip replacement and wandering how much time it will take to forget the pain and all the incoveniences (for example, it was driving me crazy when I walked with a walker not being able to carry anything from one room to another).

    My husband just had a total hip replacement yesterday. He was bone on bone, walked with a cane, then moved to a walker with uncontrolled pain. He walked out of the hospital with a walker and 6 hrs later walks totally unassisted and pain controlled with Tylenol...a total miracle.

      Can I ask how old your husband was at time of surgery. Dr wants to do hip replacement on me
      I'm terrified. I'm 62 and I have bone on bone. Osteoarthritis, torn acl and meniscus in both knees. I have so much pain in moving my n right leg. Hip injection has helped for a couple months. But...I just had foot surgery 6weeks ago and have been no weight bearing so had to depend on my right leg. I'm so frustrated with this foot surgery because I've lost my independence and I'm very depressed. So anything you might know please tell me. I'm not wanting the surgery but if my pain doesn't get better that's what will happen

      Thanks for this. I am 4 weeks out from total knee replacement. Looks like either surgery is HARD. My doctor emphasized that full recovery is 12 months and it looks like a similar path for hip replacement. I can see I have made a lot of progress so far, but there is more to go. I can’t express how grateful I am for you and this video! I’m 8 days post-op, left anterior hip replacement. All over TH-cam I kept seeing these stories of super-fast recoveries from anterior hip replacement. I was expecting to be off the walker in less than a week. I wasn’t expecting the thigh pain, the stiffness, and all the rest. I am so grateful to see your slow, steady progress. ❤

      I’m so glad my experience helped you. I was also so shocked at how difficult my first 10 days were! Even now, 2-3 years later, I don’t have complete strength and flexibility in that hip, but I’m pain free and can walk without a limp! I’m sure if I did more consistent PT longer, I would be stronger -although my surgeon said that hip may never be 100% like the other. I can live with that!!

    A small tip for people who are having trouble getting in and out of bed and have a hard time using the leg lift strap-
    I sat at the end of my bed and scooted backwards, using my arms and non-surgical leg to propel myself in small scoots, backwards, into my bed. Then as I scooted back, the bed itself lifted up my surgical leg for me. It was a lifesaver when my caretakers were not present to help put the lifting strap on my foot❤
    I figured out how to do it, out of necessity, after my labral repair surgery. And then 13 years later, I practiced doing it before my total hip replacement, to make sure that my shoulders and arms were strong and stable enough to help propel my body backwards onto the bed again. If you are currently pre-surgery, you may want to practice this technique, just in case.

    • @cruisingal2
      @cruisingal2 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      I have a high bed. I haven't had hip surgery yet, neither is it scheduled. But my hip has taken a turn .... to pain. Dr said my xrays show that I'm there, but only when I can't live with pain. I have a step stool and hopefully before I get surgery, I will practice getting into the bed, or actually, I might use a spare bedroom with lower bed. But that was a good suggestion altho my main bed has a footboard. Thanks to all discussing their experiences. I am currently dieting as I really need to loose weight before this ever happens.

    • @deannad9105
      @deannad9105 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@cruisingal2 If you love your bed, consider removing the footboard before surgery♥️ If your hip gets worse and you cannot tolerate traditional exercise as well, I suggest water physical therapy (or classes if you are near any), especially in a heated pool. It helps keep you moving and active, while taking the strain off your joints. I did it when I broke my other leg, while waiting for my hip replacement surgery. It was so helpful. And good luck with your healing. I hope you find relief soon♥️

    What a gift it was to find your video diary this evening. I head in for THA (L) in 5 hours. I cannot wait. It’s been a fairly rapid decline for my hip. I had a TKA (L) in March 2022. I was recovering from that really well. . . until I woke up in late-December with throbbing pain in the left hip, groin pain, just the works. A cortisone injection in January did nothing. Spent March through September in PT. The grating and grinding in the joint grew steadily more pronounced and painful over the course of the year. I’ve managed to stay fairly active with Pilates and occasional walks up until a week ago. Hoping that serves me well. Hoping, too, that this procedure gives me an opportunity to reclaim my life.

      Thanks for watching. I’m doing well, 3 1/2 years later. Still walk and sleep with no pain and no limp. Yay! My hip is weaker w/ less flexibility than the other side, and I constantly have to stretch and exercise it to keep it from tightening up, but it’s all worth it for me! Perhaps, if you do stronger physical therapy in the beginning, you can get your muscles and scar tissue all under control, which I apparently didn’t do! Sending 🙏🏼 for a great surgery!

      Well I had a Right hip 2 years ago which I could ID with your experience as well! As luck would have it I’m having my Left hip total replacement on 9/12/23 I had PT, 3 series of injections started to work. I had a CT scan and it showed that my hip is deteriorating from the inside out and she said it’s would be very bad for the hip to fracture and that would be a very bad day!

    Thank you for this inspiring video. My husband broke his hip (femur) Aug 12,’23 and had a rod and nail placed. Was doing pretty good with therapy but then in October he fell off an electric scooter onto the same hip cracking his acetabulum. 4 Trauma doctors decided against any surgery hoping that 12 weeks of non weight bearing would “heal” the socket/acetabulum. 10 weeks in he was hardly able to walk at all even with a walker, much less a cane. Fast forward to today - Feb., 9, ‘24 and we have obtained a second opinion from a new Orthopedist, and Total Hip Replacement has been requested by us, agreed upon by the doctor and scheduled for next week, Feb., 16. We PRAY this will be the answer to his EVER walking again. We have all the confidence in our doctor and Faith in God.
    Congratulations on your journey and continued healing. Thank you for your time.

      I have had three hip replacement’s. My hips were not smooth in the joints and we’re making a popping sound when I would bend over and stand back up, and started to ache all the time. So it was double hip resurfacing which gives it a new socket and resurface of the femoral head . Had one done in June 2017 then got that left leg in shape by walking and knew I had to get it ready for the right to be done. Had the right done went great but then rolled over in bed to have my husband rub my leg dipped my knee inward (a no no that after it happened I read it on the hand out of what not to do.before two weeks)and felt a immediate pow from my hip to my foot…next day my husband said it’s swelling.
      2am went to bathroom , and stepped with left then right and heard a clunk( had read about clunking on hip devices, then left step then right and it gave way and the device moved and broke my femur and like in slow motion landed on my butt didn’t hit anything on the way down in my mind as I was going down I thought it’s already failing? The device does not have time for bone to grow into it… if it has been a little over a week since surgery.
      Yell for my husband upstairs and said what happened and said I can’t stand on it… he got the walker in front of me and he said get your good leg ready and got me up lifting me up like a baby….1 1/2 hour drive and I didn’t have pain not from 2am to surgery 11 am next day… he did give me 2 pain pills because he wasn’t sure if I would go into shock, as soon as we got out on the main road I started singing the joy of the Lord is my strength :). We got there and they put in a full hip and I was good. I really didn’t have much pain with hip replacement . My one scar looks good but the one with double surgery is a little puckered but I don’t care I just know they don’t ache.
      Soon I’m getting a TKR right April 18th and then March 2025 the left and I hear those are more painful but I’m a bit of an anomaly at least one doctor told me that. The one thing my hip doctor told me to do is get out there and move walk to prevent blood clots. I will be bionic kat

    Thank you for your story! I can relate. I'm 63 years old and went several years with terrible left hip pain and lower back pain. I've had five back surgeries and will need another one. I will be having my right hip replaced on May 23rd. Although I am sick of surgery and hospitals, my experience with the anterior hip replacement was great! I think it was because I was very active prior to the surgery, working out three times a week. Of course, as the pain increased, I modified my workouts, but I kept at it. Believe or not, I'm looking forward to get the right hip replaced. My left hip healed very quickly although the outside of my thigh is a little numb and I do have some pain on the left side in the mornings. I was told that it takes about two years for complete healing. My sister who is two years older had both hips and knees replaced in 2020 and 2021. After the first hip replacement, she wasn't healing and it was discovered that her femur broke, so she had a revision which has caused some issues. Falling was not the cause of the break. Apparently she has weak bones and it just happened. Again thank you for your story. It is important to let people know our experiences with this procedure. I think it can lessen fear!

    Dear Sherri, Ohmygosh I am so happy to have found you - a very positive take on the anterior surgery in a sea of hip replacement videos. Though my doctor has put me on the waiting list for a replacement (here in Norway the wait is long🇳🇴), I am still on the fence. I am 69 years of age and I can hardly walk without pain, I’m still able to conduct 3 yoga classes each week (haha, I just omit pigeon pose and a few balancing asanas on the effected side) with little trouble. My fear is not being able to get back to teaching for fear of reduced mobility in a replacement ball socket. I will subscribe to your very lovely channel to see what more you have to impart on this subject that affects so many. So many thanks to you for this rare insight!🙏🏽

      Hi Danielle. Glad my video gives you hope. I would think you could go back to yoga (possibly modified) after a full recovery period of your new joint and tissues/muscles, but your doctor can tell you best! The internet does seem to be all over the place on what moves you may need to modify, but in my opinion, it's worth being out of pain and not limping all the time!! I hope your surgery date is sooner than later. I do pilates now and some very gentle yoga. Please do LMK how it goes for you!!

Because I am obese I've been having a very hard time getting in the bed because at the age of 75, and with little upper body strength, I have to have help. I hate it because I am unable to help myself. When I get inbed, I'm stuck and can't move. My leg is so heavy. I lay in bed and cry most of the night because I'm so uncomfortable. And can a friend get a portapotty to put next to the bed so you don’t have far to walk? Do the heel slides and whatever exercises they told you to do. Congrats on your new hip. Keep it moving and stretching every day for the rest of your life. I’ll do a follow up video on mine soon!
