- I hope this video saved someone a lot of time. If it’s not the resistor this is what else to look for. I understand that this problem is common in several different vehicles that use the exact same AC system, resistor wiring harness, blower motor etc.
Including
Chevy Colorado 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 2012
GMC Canyon 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 2011 20012
And many models of Isuzu I-280 i-290 I-350 I-370
started with the same problem here, 08 chevy colorado fan stopped blowing on setting 3 and then the rest eventually stopped. had a burn mark on my resistor wiring harness just like yours. replaced that and it didn't fix it. took out the blower and tested it and it was fine. IT ENDED UP BEING A BAD CONNECTION IN THE WIRING HARNESS BEHIND THE GLOVEBOX. I couldn't get the harness open so I cut the brown wire on both sides of the harness and connected them with a wire nut and boom, its blowing like new! (wish I hadn't spent so long trying to get out that rear screw to take the blower out 😵💫)
Awesome.
You ain’t kidding about that rear screw. It’s no joke! I ended up not taking it out and plugged in some pig tails I had and used alligator clips to connect to the pig tails. The motor works. I believe I have the same problem as you man. I’m going to check the connector behind the glove box tomorrow. I checked all my grounds, (even the one under the air box) changed the resistor and burnt harness and still nothing. I will update tomorrow.
UPDATE: It was the connector behind the glove box. The brown wire (power wire) connector was burnt. I cut and spliced it together so there will no longer be an issue.
It’s now August of 2024 and u just saved a Colorado with 305k miles on it and now blowing full air again haha. Thanks!
Man I love TH-cam University. Thank you for making this video!
“Beep” with multimeter=Technical term is continuity. Best video I found on this issue! The Blower went on the colorado my family has. Wondering if it’s just the motor but this answered all my questions. Great work sir! And greatly appreciated because you did save me a lot of time!
Having similar issues suddenly … my guess is the answer is in this video … thank you very much … just saved me a lot of time in quick 5 min video!
Video is still saving Colorado owner’s today. Thanks man -06 Brown wire
Glad to help
Is it always the brown wire I don’t have a multi meter
Thanks for the video; I'm there and doing that. '08 Outlook, two weeks, still can't find the connection failure, but like you, changed the resistor and should have known that the high should be working. Tested head unit with voltage change on the grey black wire, fuses are ok, swapped relays, even pulled the under the hood fuse terminal looking for critter violations. All good. Wired blower to battery and its good. Rear blower works fine. Out of frustration, went by the friendly Chevy store, who confirmed pull the dash and chase the red black wire, that is to stay hot. Swapped resistor, blower wire and blower to my 2011 Sierra, work like it should. Man, I dont wanna take a dash apart.
Glad you got it going.
So you switched the connector? I'm having the same problem on my 92 240sx 😢
Resolution update: the female to male blower connection was never locked in from the factory. After removal of the passenger side carpet and accessing wiring in the console, I could see a small gap, push, click, fixed. No problem since.
Thank you for a very good video!
I went through and checked everything.....
Fuses, relays, replaced resistor & plug connector, checked for continuity, fan directly on 12V...... everything was fine
Still no fan.
Had 12V at the fan plug harness, but when I touched the plug to the fan motor the voltage dropped to 0.00V.
Scratching my head....
Finally checked the passenger side grounding block, looked fine but there was a less than 100% connection. Opened up the grounding block, lightly brushed the connections, reassembled.
And finally the fan worked as it should.
Not the first time the grounding block caused intermittent / mystery problems.
Yeah when I first got that truck I had issues with that same grounding area. I took all the wires off and made a better ground terminal bolted to the side and never had issues with it again.
Thanks, note my FAN problems, though holding off on replacing original FAN Motor; as Shop suggested…FOUR POINT RESISTOR replacement SEEMS to cure ((* in absence of severe *& frequent testing!)…..BUT, the ENGINE CRANK//no start…..is irritating: Interestingly, only twice last several months::: always seems to start after:** @ “after”ten minutes .. Also, a few trials of you Tubers , &/Various PASSLOCK, resetting/Procedures (with ENGINE crank// *NO STARTS) seemed to be of NO help……..
@@opera93
If you're having passlock issues, I suggest having a tuner dissable the system. It's never a problem again.
@@Dusty_Bottoms_ super Thanks….. May try that if simple to bypass ,or disable…”. “Crank/ no start “: been irritating a couple times over the years.. assume there is Valid Procedure for these!,,,,,,,,,,,,
Where is this Ground block located?
Thank you so much for taking time to post this. My fan was working on all three speeds except high. The orange wire going through that connector behind the glove box was bad. Many thanks.
@@latourbrian glad to help.
I have been searching for that short for a year thank you, I have an 11 Colorado i
My truck is doing this 4 time's I keep changing the resistor and it keeps burns out great information 👍🇨🇦
This problem was extremely aggravating. It took me hours to figure out what was going on.
Thank you so much! For the past 6 months only 4 would work for me. And just two days ago i lost 4 too. So by my assumption (after learning from your video) I burnt up my wires and kept running it on 4 so the resistor blew. I knew it was a wiring thing, just had no clue where to start and I didn’t want to spend a week diagnosing.
Glad to help
I have this same problem right now where 4 only works, I haven’t really looked into it but now I know lol
Thx for explaining this. I too had a burned out connector at the third position on the resistor, and after replacing it I still had no blower. I had power going to the blower, so I concluded that the blower was bad, pulled the blower out to find a fried connector at the blower. The connector was melted in and very difficult to remove. I cleaned the male connectors on the blower and it worked. I really wonder why the fuse didn’t blow. Thx again for your help.
Your video helped me tonight, having the same problem but found out that I have lost the ground to the blower motor. Haven’t figured how I’m loosing my ground. Seems like I’m loosing it at the circuit board.
Mines doing the same thing!! I've been hearing you can run a ground close by but idk how to do all that 😂
Dude you saved me, thanks a million!!!!
Thank you! I have the exact same problem... will check this out tonight.
Hope it works
Thank you you are a true merchant
No. I’m only to Appliance Repair guy.
Just decided to post this video because it was so frustrating and difficult to find. I wanted someone else to be able to figure out the problem easier than I did.
I replaced my resistor and my fan on my 2005 Chevy now fan speeds one through four work fine but speed number five shuts the system completely off. Any clue what’s causing this?
Thanks bud. I'm gonna jumper that wire at the harness since the harness connectors won't separate.
Clean the ground with some sand paper on the passenger side too by the air filter box , is a small box works all the time when all 4 speed stop working
Thanks. My fan has 1-2-3 all on low speed with 4 still on high. Any Suggestions, Robin
Same issue here, i understand how you found the problem and what it is. How ever what exactly did you do to fix it ? Change the whole harness or the single wire ? Can you please explain lol thanks for the video!
Many thanks, I have this problem as all the relays and fuses work.. have to check your info and also an earth resistor near the air filter box.
Having this problem now thanks I’ll check the wires in the morning
Glad to help
Was the plug damage at all because I’m having the same problem and I’ve done everything you’ve done except check connectivity so did you replace that wiring harness? What did you do?
Can you do a video on how to switch out the blower motor, which I assume is somewhere around the glove compartment? How do you find the blower motor?
I have a 2006 colorado 3.5 and 2 and 4 would work on the fan. Now none of them work and nothing blows out. I was thinking the blower motor went out but after watching this it might be something else. Any ideas ?
Been having my 92 240sx hatchback s13 for 4 months no air coming out at all, turns out my connector is not reading for ground, would I be able to make a new one by the ecu and adapt it to the connector? Or how would I solve this issue, thanks in advance
Mine don't work at all. I got juice to the blower motor I even took the blower out an check it works fine. I checked the resistor beside the blower motor not really burnt getting juice there. All my fuses are good my relays are good only other thing I can think of and I ordered is the heater control switch. Hope it works after this. This truck is driving me nuts . I got to speed on 1 through 4 .
Chedk where the ground wires are connected to the fender. They have paint behind the wire ground and has 4,5 wires connected to one spot. Clean the ground, and the blower resistor should work good,
Would it work sometimes but most times not ?
Hey I’m having this exact problem and I’m just a little confused on what you did that fixed it if you could describe it for me I would really appreciate it
I track down the bad connection. Mine was at the connector behind the glove box.
@@WasherDryerMoney so did you change the connector and if so can you send me a link to that part I need or the name of it
@@DWhitesWorld when I found the connector behind the glove box, I could see when I unplugged it, one wire was burned, and slightly melted.
That plug connected a lot of wires together and there was only one bad burn wire, so I cut it off that plug and wired it together off the plug.
@@WasherDryerMoney ok bet
Ohms and coax cable had me chuckling…great video tho….thxs
Hey sometimes you gotta use what you got LOL
What exactly are u connecting there alligator clip to, near the fuse box, a grounding screw?
It’s been a while since I made this video. Basically I’m starting at the fan fuse and working my way back to the fan one connection at a time until I find where the break is.
Thanks - I had the same thing happen and your video helped!
So you fixed the symptom. But what’s the cause? I’m so tired of changing resistors and fan motors on my Colorado, I’m not getting any younger. I have to do this almost once a year… 🤦🏻♂️
What model dmm are you using? I need to get one and I want one that beeps.
Thank you hopefully this will fix my problem and same me some time
Glad to help
This happen to me as well.
I saw burn resistor and speed 3 was going on and off.
I replaced the resistor and work fine up until 7 years later.
The all speeds turn off, few days later turn on again, then all speeds go off.
I look at the resistor it's not burn.
But have not did any testing yet.
I should start with fan motor with out removing it.
Definitely before you take the fan out check all the harnesses.
I recently just replaced my resistor and wire harness 2 days ago and it worked perfect all the levels of the ac was working then 1 day later when I turn on the ac it only works on high like full blast and not the outher settings? Can anyone help me please
Can you bypass the power wire
I have the same problem ,,tiene is the Brown wire in the back of the Glover department?
Glad to help
What specifically did you end up fixing, what you did is whats wrong with i just dint know how to do it
Thank you so much you saved me a lot of time and money
Glad to help
Awesome explanation
Thanks
My chevy colorado blower motor just started working intermitenly. i checked the fan motor, wss fine, replaced the resister, was fine, of course fuse was fine. I may check the relay next. Is it possible thats working intermitenly, or do you think its still a wiring issue?
I replaced the resistor I replace the fan work for a little while and now I have to hit the fan motor to get it to start I carry a hammer on the floorboard and use the wooden handle of the hammer good hit the fan motor and it will run every time I shut the truck off
The fan will not work until struck with a blow
@@weaverfever55 I ended up replacing the fan motor, after the resistor, and I havent had any trouble since. been working fine. I decided my fan motor had a bad spot in the winding somewhere.
Thank you for the information thank you for posting and sharing for sure although when you got to the important part it was a little rushed in vague I felt like, but nevertheless I appreciate you sharing the information have a nice day
Thanks for the comment. I normally do very detailed videos on appliance repair. I have been trying to fix this truck issue all day and when I finally figured it out I just made a quick video in case someone else runs into the same problem. Should have made it more detailed but it was more of a last minute Quick video.
@@WasherDryerMoney thanks, really. See my “ fan problem” : interestingly , seems like FAN 1, 2 speeds may go off occasionally: NOT JUST 3-4 : I may attempt Reaistor Replacement….
@@opera93 definitely replace the resistor first that’s step one if it doesn’t solve the problem I would start looking at the wiring harnesses.
@@WasherDryerMoney thanks!, interestingly, I did replace “*FAN RESISTOR 4PLUG ( ORIELLY AUTOMPARTS,CHINESE)as CANYON wiring, Originalypresented two Plugs @50% blackened, & 10%Blackened //final two: & **fortunately, no,known FAN SHUT OFFS on any for four Speeds several months.. There is also a ground that usually gets bad contact by the intake box it has the word Delphi on it move it around it should turn on. The little black box is grounded to the fire wall
rob522 yes and I have fix that connection box before. When I first got this truck that was messing up all my tail lights. I can’t remember how I fixed it but I remember I over killed it.
123 are out and on mine would that be same issue i thou g ht its was the consol itsself and replaced that and still same issue so now I'm out 60 bucks and time. 4 still works so its not like i have no air
I would first try replacing the speed control part that I talk about in the beginning. It’s a plug-in play. It will either work or it will not. Usually it does work. It worked on mine the first time it went out. After that I would do what I did in this video and try to track down a connection or ground problem. Good luck.
So once you figured it out what did you do to fix it? Did you swap that wire harness? Im having the same issue and i think this may be it. Im going to check it tomorrow
I cut the wire that was burned inside of the harness and just attach them together with a wire nut and solder. it was just one wire that was the issue so I left the rest of the harness alone.
@@WasherDryerMoney thanks bud. I got impatient and checked them all the dang wires are good. Looks like i might need a new blower. Fml
When you take the fan off you can put power directly to it from the battery to double-check that it doesn't just come on. If it does just come on it's not the fan.
All my ac speeds work from 1-5 but I have an annoying clicking sound. You think it’s my blower motor?
More than likely you have leaves inside the blower motor. Take it off and dump off the leaves. I had the same problem
What is that harness called?
How does the white harness clip going to the blower release? I’m pulling the harness out and that last clip on the bottom faces away and I can’t see how to release it. Thanks
Wish I could tell you it’s just been too long since I did this repair. I can’t remember. I will say the harness that was burned up was extremely stuck together because it had melted plastic together.
Hi, thanks for your efforts, I am also going on the 4th replacement of the resistor. Seeing this video I am convinced that the problem I'm having is the same. Did you just cut into a hot line, run a new wire or replace the entire wiring harness? Thanks for any help.
I just cut the wire that was burned up and wire them together outside of the harness. I always solder and wire cap plus tape my connections.
@@WasherDryerMoney I have ground but no power.Fuse and relay is good.(94 Ford ranger)Change blower motor and resistor??
My blower sounded like it was running on only 4 so I changed resistor/harness. Sounds like it runs on all setting but no air coming out. Is this what you had?
@@MrPholding mine would not come on at all. At one point it did have the common resistor going out problem I believe four would work and three but not one and two. I replace the resistor and it started working. Mine would just not run at all even after replacing the resistor. It was a burnt up wire in the wiring harness.
Big help bro
Glad to help
Great tip!
Glad to help
I just replaced my resistor thinking that was it. Before it worked when it wanted to and would turn on when i hit a bump in the road so i replaced it. Now i get nothing. Harness to resistor looks good no burn marks. Ill have to check these fuses before i go buy a blower motor. 🤔
Have you figured out what it is I also still have the same problem currently. Im still confused on how it just randomly turns on when I hit a bump
I have an issue where the fans works sometimes and then doesn't work at all.
Thank you!!!!
Glad to help
Thanks, I have a 07 Gmc my blower comes run for a few hours and then stops. What would you check 1st? thanks
replaced resistor and harness,,blower motor works..for a while..startede cutting off and on,,now switch does nothing?????
2018 trax I've replaced the wires to the resistor, the resistor and the blower motor. It worked on all 4 speeds properly for about 8 minutes then everything stopped I'm getting no air at all. Anyone have suggestions? Thank you
Check all the wiring harnesses mine had one bad connection. It was pretty obvious.
I have a 2007 GMC canyon truck the
THAT the fan stopped working and found the resistor pack and redone all grounds and still no power need assistance please
How do I test my blower motor just the motor
@@danecrenshaw1743 my not sure.
I'm having the same problem I checked with a multimeter and it says the blower motor is getting voltage but it's still not turning on
Maybe the blower motor has gone out. I took mine off originally thinking that was what was wrong and wire it directly on the battery. It came right on so I knew that was not it.
Be sure to unplug all the harnesses that I showed and make sure there’s no burn marks.
I have the same problem man and we put the blower new and the fuse new and I’m thinking his is the couse
I bet it is.
you wer right, disconnected and put brown to brown and blower works great! only worry is that the wire on the blower side overheats. how can I keep that from happening?
those resistors are so trash, the 3 one always burns out on every single canyon/colorado, the resistor in general is just horribly designed
Thanks, I have 2007/CANYON SL/ 4 CYL: just tying to fix : FAN shUts “OFF “ quickly @, “ speeds 3,4,generally;::: speeds 1,2 Work ….interestingly, thinking about it , seems like FAN speeds 1 & 2, , have gone Off , rarely last year or two,,,also….mildly irritating.. Anyways, real problem I have a :::: “ no *start, turns over perfect , no *check engine Light” come up occasionally:: seems to “ start “ peerfiectly after 10/60 minutes delay (?)……….
Turn over but no start on my 07 was a switch at the base of the ignition key assembly. You need to buy the assembly minus the key tumbler (cheaper), remove the switch from new unit. Now you can remove the clamshell cover at the base of steering column where it goes into the dash and get to the bad switch without removing the entire assembly.
@@aflatsnut thanks….still issue infrequent is a :: “crank/ No start” , a random occurrence (??). I Have not checked all grounds,etc…though always starts after 10.0 minutes.. oddly irritating ….
None of mine will blow out
mine will do none, not 1-4
Mine was the same way.
I would first try the resistor if that doesn’t work it probably is a wire harness melted somewhere. It’s hard to tell usually you have to unplug the harnesses to see if there’s a black burned up spot. Just go one of the time until you find it. It’s a pain.
05 Colorado. Problems all over the place. Kinda a piece of junk
