Okay, I had my facebook recommend 5 different transgender groups despite not being out as trans on facebook or even to my family, and I had never posted anything, liked anything, or joined and groups related to transgenderism. The only link was one friend who is also trans. Besides that, I'd talked about it on messenger with a friend and searched stuff in google. So either facebook was monitoring my conversation with a friend, or tracking my search history, most of which was in incognito. Needless to say, I was creeped out when I kept getting recommended the same 5 trans and LGBT groups to join out of nowhere.
they do track personal convo, Me and my friends have personally observed and tested it many times. and yeah they do record your history, but i think thats obvious, many sites does it. the real thing is the private messages leakage.
@@umertariq4370 Indeed, facebook scans private messages. Messenger is owner by facebook. So is whatsup but it's kinda hard for them to see your messages. Not only that, but facebook loves to scan your browser history, bookmarks, add-ons, current activity and all other data a browser can collect about your operating system. Google is even more intrucive. If you have google and facebook open, but only logged into facebook, google can figure out your facebook account and other features about your activity to 99,9999...% accurately recognize you.
Not necessarily. I'm doing this off of memory so you'll have to do the research on your own. A long time ago there was a bot that could tell a person's race, gender, age, political affiliation and other things simply through Facebook likes. Target could tell when a teenage girl was pregnant months before her or her father knew. If you are actually trans there's a possibility that you're subconsciously broadcasting it. That being said they still probably do everything you said
Finally some good information about this subject is getting some traction. Congrats on the video, it's very helpful for people that don't understand that deleting your profile isn't solving anything.
I think all big site participates in this type of data collection, not just FB. Google / TH-cam. Bing. Apple. Spotify etc. Anything with sign-on. All wanted to market their products better, at the cost of our privacy. Heck even Windows 10 has telemetry. So we are indeed, the product in 2018. Worse still, even if you went full luddite, no internet, all firewall etc... There is no telling what's your friends or family shares about your information, whether implicitly or explicitly as you had explained in your phonebook example.. in the end, we, the users always lose. Can you live without say... Google?
Great vid man. Very articulate and explained well. I have quite a few smartphones and upon getting a new one and setting it up I've often almost caught myself sharing contacts on FB, in fact I may have on one and don't realise because it's impossible to tell and turn it off after the fact. Those contacts are always updated and synced through Google so, in turn is keeping FB updated as well. Kind of scary really. I have clients who aren't very tech savvy (Just normal consumers) that shared their whole profiles publicly before I locked it down for them. They were blissfully unaware that they were sharing everything with everyone.
The same way you said that a family member once told you if it wasn't for Facebook all of their friends and family would be strangers is exactly how Facebook has driven a wedge between everyone who I used to keep in contact with and myself
Yeah but if they leak someone's personal data or give it out they can get into serious trouble for it and risk a very, very big lawsuit that they won't win.
@@freetimefm7639 Almost certainly. GDPR is in general kind of loose but it could easily be too strict so it's better this way. Hopefully they cover up loopholes though.
"We collect information about non-Facebook users" So... any one who might try to guess someone else's password in included in this. And it makes sense being for "security reason for the user". Because it is. Even bots trying to attack some Facebook server's would count in that definition and would explain why Facebook doesn't want to disclose any more information. Because disclosing it would make them get into a lot of trouble. Another thing is the form you entered. It seems to be there for the case where someone uploads a personal image from someone who doesn't have a Facebook account and this person would like it removed. So.... Storing login information in a cookie is a stupid and dangerous idea. It isn't done, not by any large websites like facebook anyway. The right way to keep someone logged in is to use a Session ID, which is server side and secure.
I don't mind Facebook knowing my information really. I mean, the things I really want to keep secret, will never be anywhere online, and it certainly won't be available for Facebook to collect from its regular sources. And honestly, I don't mind Facebook collecting my information to market goods to me. In fact I prefer being advertised to. I get to know of great deals that way.
