This week’s episode of Dark Matter is a messed up game of “Guess Who that Jason is?” One Jason, two Jason, 3 Jason, 4. I will ride with one in a car, and I will drink with one at a bar.
I loved this chaotic episode, we’re going to set everything straight on who is who throughout this entire episode, and give our theories on where episode 9 will go. Sit back, relax, light up, as we get into episode 8 of Dark Matter.
So Jason prime is back to his home universe, but quickly learns that he’s in a damn Jason-Verse battle royale with a handful of doppelgangers just strolling about in his home universe. However, his conversation over a couple beers with himself, quickly reveals why this is happening, how this is happening, and what he’s going to have to do.
I’ll sort out all of the Jasons in a bit, but at the bar Jason 10 reveals to Jason prime, that every single decision he made in the box, created a new Jason, and so forth and so on. Meaning that theoretically and statistically more and more Jason’s will find their way back to this main universe, thinking and claiming they are Jason prime, with the same goal of reuniting with his family. But you can see the problem… There’s one only Daneila and one Charlie, while there’s God knows how many Jason’s at this point, let alone next week’s episode. My original theory last week when we saw the two Jason’s go into the gun store, was that every time Jason used lavender fairy, that split off a new Jason, but it’s much more compounded and chaotic than that.
Now with dozens of Jason’s running a muck, truly it was difficult to know which one was which. Heck for me I was getting a couple switched here or there, but like last week, I turned on audio descriptions, which designates a number to all of the Jason’s in this episode, helping us keep things straight.
So starting with the final scene from episode 7, Jason prime, Jason 1, the main Jason we’ve been following was the first Jason to go into the gun store, buying a knife and pepper spray. Jason 6 is the one who goes into the store and out to the falling snow at the end of the episode. Switching to episode 8, Jason 2 is the one in the house at the start, and when taking out the trash, has a scuffle with Jason 7 who is killed, and then stored in the trunk of their Honda Civic.

I think it’s better to say Jason 1 (prime universe), Jason 2 (alternative universe) and then Jason 1.x (1.1, 1.2, etc) to show that these are variations of Jason 1 and not just random Jasons from other universes/realities. Giving them separate numbers for each one confuses me a lot!
Jupiter has over 80 moons, and thousands more objects in its orbit. Perhaps Jupiter is a metaphor for Daniela, with the Jasons being moons?

Your logic regarding Jason 2 is correct. There are multiple versions of Jason 2 who kidnapped Jason Prime, but they don't need to enter each other's Reality. For example, there is probably a Jason 2 who instead of kidnapping Jason Prime, killed Jason Prime. There is probably a Jason 2 that instead of taking Jason Prime to his original Reality, took Jason Prime to a dark world. And so the infinite possibilities of Jason 2 are created after kidnapping Jason Prime... But they do not have the objective of entering each other's Reality, at least for now.

If Jason 2 kidnaps Jason 1 from his universe then there this universe has no Jason left to kidnap again, only another universe would have another Jason to be kidnapped but that universe would be slightly different …
Every universe has just one Jason to start with and no matter to which universe they travel they have their own ones to come back to. But inside the box additional Jasons get created by the choice of which door a Jason is using. And these additional Jasons don’t have their own individual universes but share the same with the specific Jason who opened a door inside the corridor of the box.
This doesn’t make sense 😂 Jason 2 kidnapped them remember he’s the scientist/doctor he knows. There is only one Jason per universe to kidnap
I love how this show has everyone contemplating all these variations. I don’t know how Amanda is going to play into all of this but I can see them trying to enter the parallel timeline (which Amanda chose & possibly the real Ryan was left in * the world with the northern lights) It is more of a utopia and the current world (in which at least two Jasons died is out of the question to remain in)
What do you mean, "...each other's reality"?
The show has already established via the presence of multiple Jason1's in the prime universe (or universe1) that there are realities or universes that they share in common.
It's not like Jason 2 copies are creating their own universe each time they're created that splits off from the main reality, because if you believe that's the case then how do you explain why that is not happening for Jason 1 copies as well who should all be split off to each their own siloed realities.
And they all have the objective that original Jason2 had .
(since they've been copied from him and their decision-making will be identical to his due to their identical memories and conditioning in life)
Which is to go to a reality where they ended up marrying Daniela.
Chances are they would end up in this same reality where that happens as opposed to other realities where their Jason married Daniela because like I said, their decision-making (and therefore conceptualization prior to opening the door to determine what world you end up in) would be identical to original Jason 2's decision-making.
Why didn't Jason2 just destroy the box as soon as he arrived at the correct world?
This is a big problem for Daniela coz honestly all those Jason's spawned from the box are also Jason prime.....so all of them have all the memories they shared with her.... including the night he got kidnapped

They all lived different adventures that made them into other persons but our Jason is only the father that miss his family, he's the only one that would make sure to meet Daniela in a safe place (a police station) and then hug his son the first occasion without missing a beat, all the other Jason are driven by Daniela only it seems

There really isn't a right answer for Daniella. She's just choosing the least threatening Jason. The one she feels is safest for her and Charlie. Which could change at anytime.
I don't think there would be any reason for copies of Jason 2 to show up to this particular world that this Jason 2 made his new home. They probably found their own new world, maybe their own Daniela and possibly Charlie (and possibly Max) as well. It seemed like he had to do a lot of trial and error with 100 or so tries to figure out how to use the box himself before he chose this version of the world, which would be random to the rest of them. As opposed to all the Jason 1s whose life was stolen by this Jason 2.
The sad part is that none of the Jason 1s are "imposters", they all had their life stolen and desperately want their family back. Only 1 will probably get that, the rest.. well. They could make copies of Charlie and Daniela, hell, they could make copies of Max as well. That box is a copy machine, but it will make more copies of them forever for every choice those copies make. Pandora's Kinko's box.
What would be a real shame is if Daniela just decides she's done with *all of this* and says she wants a divorce. "I don't care about any version of you... you're all stalkers to me now, I'm dating mechanic Ryan." At least Charlie would get a sh*t ton of presents from his infinite dads.

Jason 2 copies have no motivation to return to the prime universe. They are only converging because Jason 1's want their family back
But wasn't Jason 2's original goal to get to Daneila? So that would be the motivation of all of them?
I think there are copies of Jason Prime, the original “good” Jason, and copies of Jason 2, the first “bad” Jason.
I got the feeling that Daniella was not the only Daniella.

@@noon6925Perhaps she traveled and switched out a long time ago with a different Jason who is now gone for some reason. At the beginning of episode 1 she asked "Are you happy with your life?" Jason 2 said the same thing during the kidnapping. She could also handle herself well, like she had fought before.
Great breakdown & super smart to put on subtitles to number the Jasons. I liked Jason 10, I feel like he could get in the way of our Jason getting his fam back.

This is absurd. There is no Jason prime. That's just the Jason the TV cameras chose to follow. All those Jasons have equal claim.
One solution is: seal or (better yet destroy) the box to prevent more Jasons from entering this world. Assuming there are at least 5 (maybe dozens) other Jasons by now including 1 “evil one”, his wife might as well divorce and file a restraining order against Jason.
Since there would be no “prize” of family anymore, the surviving Jasons will basically have to live separate lives, most likely outside of the U.S to avoid questions from the authorities.
Remember in one of previous episodes, Jason visits a world where he is divorced and his family has a restraining order against him? He then runs away from it. This world would have to become that version. His wife might still love him but it’s the only way to save her and the kid.
The lesson would be that none of Jason’s get the family (irony) and it’s a warning against inter-dimensional travel.
I’m really enjoying this series but latest episode felt a bit too far for me… why and how would Daniela pick any of the Jason Primes over any of the others? From her perspective, all are the husband that was stolen from her.

I can appreciate layers and complexity, when done elegantly, but this comes off a bit messy and confusing. The explanations aren't all that satisfying either. The reveal to Daniella felt underwhelming, anticlimactic. Show had and maybe still has much potential but it's kind of teetering out.

@@lornarettig3215 I think a better direction for the show would be the exploration of various worlds. There are so many themes and topics that could be explored through that. A world where women are dominant or a world where Adolf Hitler succeeded are just two examples.
Actually my theory, is every Jason exist in that world that have almost same mark on nose is actual real Jason, their existent came from milisecond different Jason.
Refer movie "Everything Everywhere All at Once", every decision you make, another you exist. So I guess, every Jason that have same mark on nose is Good Jason.
Version J1 = Victim (Have Mark on their nose), you can see multiple J1.1 J1.2, J1.3 etc
Version J2 = Kidnapper (Good Nose) J2.1 J2.2, J2.3 etc
Separate universes were created when one Jason goes off to be a scientist and the other decides to be a husband and father and traveling in the box creates more universes? Meaning there are multiverses for everyone!

There is no Jason prime. They all got kidnapped. They just had different experiences inside they box, otherwise before the kidnapping they were the same person.

Yup. We've been saying that that scar is how we know we're watching the original Jason.
BUT - one of the car drivers in this episode also had the same scar, and if Jason spawned a new Jason whenever he used the Box, surely all the Jason 1s should have that same scar because it was acquired before he went into the box?
On the other hand, maybe there were a number of Jasons/other universes created by the decisions original Jason 1 made at Velocity?

If this helps - and perhaps it’s been suggested in one of the many comments here I have not read - the closed captioning during the bar scene with Jason 1 and Jason 10 is incorrect. It reads “I only know about the first reserve because of Charlie.” This led you to wonder if that meant reserve of ampoules. The actual words spoken are “forest preserve.” Clearly a forest preserve in Kankakee has some significance, perhaps an excellent meeting/hiding/body disposing place? We shall see.

The new Jason's are from a superpositions from a reality where Jason knows there are many other Jasons that know there is a 2nd. and They already know how to get into world 1. in short, infinite jason's in world 1.
Not that complicated. They are ALL Jason 1 who made different decisions. There are no imposter's. They all have equal claim to Daniella and Charlie. But they were so much more traumatized that they couldn't think logically about how to approach Daniella and were desperate to just save them. Jason 1 as much as he went through went thru less trauma prob than the others and thus why he was able to thibk clearly and come up with a great idea to get Daniella alone. Any one of the other Jason's could have had the same or similar idea but they didn't bc they were so messed up to think it through. We could have easily followed another Jason and feel for that one. And what you said at the end if they find a new world....if Charlie or Daniella chose the world and open the door it's impossible for them to follow just like it's impossible for them to know the safe word Jupiter. I dont understand why there are so many Jasons. Jason prime was taken by Jason 2. Jason 2 never interacted with the other Jasons. Why are they popping up. He never went to their worlds
They said that every single decision/choice Jason 1 made in the box, therefore created a new version of him. So theoretically him opening one door, could mean that one action resulting in 1000+ different doors being opened, and so on and so forth

I think you got the last scene of episode 7 and the first scene of episode 8 wrong. The Jason who bought the knife and gun was the 6th Jason. The one who came in after was the prime Jason
If they follow the way the book ended, then I can tell you one of the three options mentioned in this video is the one they use.

Rewatching from beginning and I'm now not even sure we are following the same Jason 1 through out the series. In episode 1, Jason 1 has/hasn't a wound on the chin also.
That would be bananas. It's like that other Apple TV series, Constellation.

-In Episode 8 We are not following in the original Jason’s worldbranch . We are in Jason 2’s feared worldbranch. Check episode 5, 53:45 mark. Jason 2’s mental state shifted his reality(worldbranch) to the one where all the “victimized Jason’s came after him”. Notice his mental distress and concerns as he left Mara at velocity lab and returned.
Shifts in Points of perspective include Max’s memorial tree, clothing/outfit changes. Our main characters didn’t go in the box with a lot of clothing. Outfit/style changes in general, Signs, buildings, The train, colors, and The Nintendo switch sound effect. Big highlights include
- In episode 1, 3:43 notice the memorial tree art work.
- Episode 7, 45:44. It now has an Einstein quote “Now he has again preceded me a little in parting from this strange world. This has no importance. For people like us who believe in physics, the separation between past, present and future has only the importance of an admittedly tenacious illusion.” that is easily missed. And nice foreshadowing.
- We have been following many different victim Jason’s POV. notice some details we assume happened off screen.
- Episode 5, 7:00- 9:41.the lantern and clothing, Obviously.
- Theatre bill board episode 6, 2:29 different from episode 7, 45:10
- Blonde Amanda episode 6, 35:23 vs him spying on brunette Amanda 6, 38:49
- Everything you want to happen will happen. You just won’t see it. For example my Jason stayed with Amanda in episode 7 and also slept with her in the same bed In episode 6, 21:14.
- Ryan is in the world with Amanda, and he isn’t.
- Because it’s so well designed, Once you let go the concept of the original Jason it all works out. Upsets and happy endings. Unfortunately nothing really matters with infinity. All is an illusion. Amanda was right episode 7 20:18
How does "Jason 2" know how to navigate specific timelines, moving back and forth between them? Did he die from falling down the stairs? I'm a huge fan from Taiwan, and I haven't seen such an exquisite and phenomenal TV series like this before. ❤👍

Also, Jason 2's plan to kidnap a random universe's Ryan ad replace his own universe's Ryan was dumb from the get-go.

That plan made absolutely NO sense to me and in fact, it arguably would even have been better if he had done nothing at all and instead let a "missing Ryan" hang over their heads, than this cockamanee plan he pulled which only seems to have served to expose him even more because it pushed Daniella to seeking more answeres at his storage box.
I agree. Furthermore, he would also then be recognized as a free-radical disrupting the impeccable order of the universe and the universe/nature would move to eliminate him.
He really is sloppy for a supposed award winning scientist. Least he could’ve done was prep that man that all his dreams would come true now is this new reality

Why do the other Jason 1s all simultaneously assume this is the right world ? There’s no way they all observed Daniella long enough to all know that’s the right one.

Jason 2 spawns will not have nose injury that Jason prime have. So jasons created by prime jason will have nose injury and jasons created by jason 2 will have no nose injury.
But, the only impostor is Jason 2. All the other Jasons are versions of Jason Prime, with the same love for his family, same history, background etc. Same right to "claim" Daniela... what a mess.
She is looking at him crazy at the End because she knows that she has no real way of knowing if this in fact the "Original" meaning her actual husband, because the version in the car had that same story! That Man has no way of proving he is the real one, because all of them have the same story about the kidnapping. Jason who invented the box is a multiversal moron! I think I have an original idea for how a show might end. There is a thought experiment in quantum physics called Quantum Suicide and Quantum Immortality. Too long to explain in TH-cam comments, wikipedia article on it is decent. I think all the Jasons might end up happily reuniting with the family by reenacting the quantum suicide experiment.
It's a fun show, and wondering how they will end the season. When it comes to the multiverse, things can become chaotic so quickly. You can surmise that the writers put a limit on the craziness. We see like 13 versions of Jasons on screen, but there could easily be 10,000s or infinite of Jasons trying to squeeze into one world. Obviously they won't do that because it would be too crazy. The thing about Jason prime, he is pretty much indistinguishable from close alternatives to himself. As a viewer, we could say that the Jason at the police station is not the prime, and we can never confirm it.
BAMM, I know what next season will be about! I figured straight away like others all three will go into the box, her finding those ampules confirmed that but what world would they want to settle on? What as a family are they missing or should i say "who"?🤔

Kankakee is a city about an hour south of Chicago. There is a state park there not far from there and that’s where the multiple Jasons thought about burying Jason2. Book explains that a little better but yeah that’s what they are referring to is Kankakee State Park
I saw a comment on another video that said the reason that there arent an infinite number of jason 2's is because jason 2 always made sure to inject the drug before getting into the box and maybe thats what makes it not duplicate. BUT jason 1 always injects inside the box....

And instead of “creates a new one” (1.1) is it not rather that one Jason before the choice splits into two identical Jasons which would mean there is no 1.1 - 1.2 - 1.3 … Jason but rather a huge amount of Jason 1 with identical right to be the one coming home?

It is unclear right now. It was said to be a miniseries, and I think this has covered a majority of the novel. So maybe if they were to write an original continuation?
@@JBuckStudios I hope so, i absolutely love this series. This series has the potential to be continued to season 2 atleast. Another season can answer what happened to Leighton 2, Amanda 2 and can include more multiversal travel.
The box is the only solution. But, in the box are original Angela, original Ryan and original Layton. I don't think we are finished with them yet.
I think they have to merge back into one Jason, and to do that, they need to all enter the box individually and exit it simultaneously in the same world. However, that won't include the Jasons that didn't make it back yet but will make it back in the future! I wonder how it's gonna wrap up

And this is why it’s ridiculous to make movies or tv shows about the multiverse. Every Microsecond spawns a new Jason. When will it stop?
Next episode is titled "Entanglement," which is a concept in quantum physics where two or more particles get so tightly connected that the state of one instantly affects the state of the other, no matter how far apart they are. So, if a character makes a big decision in one universe, it could have instant and dramatic effects on another version of themselves in a different universe. I'm curious how they'll pull it off.
There are a couple of Apple trailers that start with “This season on Dark Matter” which has implied to me from the jump that there will be additional seasons. I haven’t read the book but I would love a season two!!

good show and great explanation, but how does Daniela know that prime Jason is her "real" Jason? Just because he was the first Jason to reaveal that Jason 2 is an imposter doesnt really reveal to her that hes her Jason. It could be Jason 7 thought of the idea of getting arrested. We as viewers know that Jason prime was the one to get arrested for smoking or do we really?????

So if Jason 1 put rubberband on his finger before he and Amanda went into box together how come the new Jasons don't have a rubberband ring. especially if he was the first and manifested the others?
Shouldn’t these Jasons be based on the Jason 2? He is the one stealing lives? There should be versions of him, similar to the version of the first lady who went into the box and another version came back to a similar world with deadly creatures…then the original made it to that world and realized a version of her accidentally destroyed the world.
They will end up in the universe where Daniela2 was shot dead, and there was no Charlie. Prime Daniela can take over Daniela2's successful life.
If they go into the box, then he'll have to have Daniella or his son open the door and thus pick the world. To keep the other Jason's from following them.
I think the family can find safety in a new reality because none of the other Jason’s have Charlie and Daniella with them so necessarily whatever door they open will result from their collective consciouses and subconsciouses

Had no idea this wasn’t the finale - so yeah, I have no idea what’s about to happen. But I did wonder how many Jason 2 there are. I’m guessing more than a few are dead but Jason 2 seems very in tune w the box whereas Jason 1 not so much. I don’t understand how so many Jason 1 copies made it back as there are infinite doors.
I have no idea what Kankanke was & played it over a few times to try to understand what they were saying. But if Jason 10 know about it, then all Jason 1 copies will know it so would be a wrong turn to go there.
They must go to a Universe decided by Daniela, where Jason doesnt exist, that way Jasons can´t follow them
As far as other Jason 2's go I would imagine they're in many other universes having kidnapped other Jasons. There would be no reason for other Jason 2's to be in the universe we're currently in. We're just following this particular universe story line.

The Jason in the bar is the bad one or a copy of the bad one No scratch on his nose(right side). Most of the scene is showing his left side for a reason for us not to pick on this detail but, there is a few seconds where clearly you can notice that he doesn't have a scratch on his noose. I think he used the clothes (definitely the hat) of the other Jason who got killed at the beginning of the episode. That is just my observation.
that doesn't make sense at all. it's just chaotic with no reason or sense. sure interesting things and thoughts emerge but honestly i don't like the senseless direction the series takes.
like you said there are only multiple versions of jason 1 and not jason 2 which doesn't make sense at all. for what i know all the jason's 1 who came back to this world want to get back to their family. nothing at all hints on the fact that there are multiple version of any other person who went into the box and made decisions...
i like series which are deep and needs thinking in order to unterstand and and i might be stupid or missing something but atm i see only senseless chaos without reason and logic behind it which is a bummer.
I love the show but it doesn’t make any sense , seems that Jason’s would know that’s not their Daniella , and would be trying to get back to home to their situation.
I’m starting to believe that all of the nice Jason’s,,, are Jason ones. And all of the violent Jason‘s are Jason to twos.
So there also has to be other Daniella's on copies of Earth prime that are being fought over. Every Jason that is created also has to have their version of Earth prime that they are trying to get back to.
Only the Jasons with the scratch on the nose can be a variations of Jason Prime since he got that scratch from Jason2 kidnapping him.
My theory:
All Variations of Jason1 have to have the scratch since he startet his box-journey obviously after his kidnapping. Also there must be plenty of versions of Jason2 which are still planning to kidnap Jason1.
So it’s a mix of Versions of Jason Prime (Nose scratch) and Jason2 who are still trying to kill or kidnap Jason1, because he started his Box-journey searching for Jason Primes world way earlier.

Every single decision he made in the box, created a new Jason. Why? Is there an explainable logic for that? Or is it just because the author decided it? Because this really gets me. It was a quite good story, and those multiple Jason thing doesn't really match to that story and its made up logic.
Jason prime is the one who built the box in the first place. So in the next episode, all of the other jasons going to unite and force jason prime into the box and send him off to quantum realm and later they will all destroy the box so that jason prime will get stuck in the quantum realm…yadayadayada…jason prime becomes a black man then call himself Kang. 😂
If I were Daniela I would never be able to trust or believe the jason she got back to is the OG jason. I think it will ultimately break them up (if theres as s2) because there's no way anything will be the same again

Also the splint is on the left pinky finger of the second Jason in the gun store and the bandage is on the left thumb of the Jason that got killed in the Men's room
