No smoke machine? Me neither. I did find my leaks with an old medical nebulizer/respiratory therapy pump that produces a few PSI. I hooked it up where Oz did, sealed the vent tube with needle nose vice grips and listened for the leak. I also sprayed some soapy water and looked for the bubbles. You may be able to find such a pump at a thrift store or E-bay,
I have a 2014 Buick LaCrosse 3.6L and have two codes (P0445, P0442), which caused me to fail my emissions tests in November of last year. Ugh! I installed a vent valve solenoid in the charcoal canister and couldn't make it flush to twist into the canister because of the catalytic converter pipe being in the way, preventing the tank from coming further down. So I think I'll go to a shop here in Chicago that will let you rent a bay and I'll be able to access it better because it'll be on a lift. I really appreciate these videos because they're so helpful and informative. After seeing your video, perhaps the O-ring is part of the issue as well because I've replaced the gas cap already.
OZ your a awesome mechanic, thanks for your videos!! I just had my heads machined on my 05 GMC Sierra 1500 SLT Z71 because I had a couple of bolt heads broke on the driver side manifold. So did a complete head job because had to replace driver side head which are aluminum & had problem getting those broke cast iron bolts out, also one had already messed the threads up which led me to getting a new drivers side head & having both machined to even everything out. Anyway codes was cleared & drove home to find it still throwing this EVAP code. Luckily you posted this the next day, but my problem was a aftermarket Locking Gas Cap, but watching this I went ahead & ran your test & had exact problem as well!! Thanks for all your videos bud, wish you were a local mechanic here, but your videos are a tremendous help!! (👍#1 Life Subscriber)
The Homie Hektor lmao yea for a second I thought I had a bad charcoal canister. Luckily It was just the seal. How you been? How’s the weather in your part of town ?
Great video! Thank you! Very informative… I thought that the process of finding my issue was going to be a nightmare, you just made it easy to understand. Thanks again
If you don’t have safety test laws in your state evap leaks don’t effect performance of the vehicle, so ignore your check light that’s caused by evap leak!
I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty showing a small EVAP leak. I replaced the purge valve, still showing P0456 code. Can you tell me the part name for the O ring and white piece you replaced in your video. Your video was very helpful and informational. I love it. Ty
Okay now I understand you have to do the smoke test at purge valve that goes to the gas tank and plug up the vent valve, my purge valve is in the fender well
Oz, thanks for all the tutorial info. I have a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica and it is giving po455 code. On inspection at the tank after replacement of gas cap, I found the gross leak possible coming from fuel filler tube to inlet tank tube. I have looked for a video to show how to replace the fuel filler tube on this vehicle. But with no success in doing so. Do you have a video on how this is done or can you point me in the direction of a video that shows what I am after on the 2005 Pacifica? Thanks again for information ahead of time.
But OBDII P0442 code what means? I have a KIA RONDO 2012 yr, 4 cyl. The check engine is on after error code erased. I changed the gas cap w/new one KIA. Very expensive in Canada. I can't fix the problem yet. Now I'm looking for a canister purje valve to be changed but I'm not sure yet. In EVAP system to fix the problem must waist a lot of $$$$.
my 2008 jeep wrangler my did same changed gas cap but came on later later I home this is the issue so I can inspect it but I don't have a smoker. we did change upper senser and went away dove it awhile and came back.
I thought it was a great video and very informative more of a tutorial but my question for you is What is the name brand and or model of the smoke machine that you used that information will be extremely helpful once again thank you
Where can i get a smoke machine to do this test and question was the vehicle shutting off and not working properly what was the customer complaint to bring it in for service besides a check engine light was she having other issues .
@@OzMechanics GOT SMOKE MACHINE. Found leak in 2 minutes. Was "new" fuel cap. Took O-RING off. Greased it with silicone grease and replaced same cap. Now also doing 5 clicks on gas cap, as opposed to closing with 1 click. Fixed 2nd jeep in 5 minutes same scenario. Going on to 1999 bmw 328i next. GREAT VIDEO. Tx will use on ALL cars before releasing them.
Good video, I have a engine light took to orelly guy said Evap Leak. not gonna perform this just wanted to learn something on how it’s done. Now gotta find someone who can fix the problem for me
Would a restriction cause a whoosh of gas vapor to come out from the fill neck when removing the gas cap ? That was happening on my '02 DOHC Taurus several times until it stopped on it's own. But I now have a gas smell whenever I drive the car, and I traced it to the rear of the car with an electronic gas sniffer. I don't know exactly where it's coming from yet though. Any ideas what could be going on ?
I don’t know if you’re going to answer this several people ask you this question and there was no reply what is the name and or brand or any information on a smoke machine tool that you are using in this video
On your SMOKE MACHINE: did you make it yourself? if not, what brand is it and where did you get it? I am getting tons of small leaks (EVAP) and don't just want to part change, would like to smoke test it. if you did make it, how about showing viewers how to make it -- you might get lots of views because many DIY mechanics would be interested IMO. Thanks.

Danny Ramirez on this Jeep they don’t have vent valves. But a vehicle with a vent valve I would use my scan tool to close it. That would be my way to test it out
