I think you should make one about Argentine football and how much of a mess it is right now, there's 28 teams in the first division and the league format was changed mid-season. Cristiano Ronaldo has literally only ever moved clubs for tax avoidance purposes. He moved to Spain as soon as they lowered their top income tax rate in 2009, then when Spain increased tax on top earners, he immediately moved to Italy who had just reduced their top tax rate, then moved to England to the only club that would agree to his wage demands, and then got off to the depths of society as soon as an opportunity to pay 0% income tax arose.

Tax rules are what they are, and it's in a person's or company's best interest to minimize their own liability. Governments put loopholes there on purpose to benefit themselves and their backers/friends/family etc.
The fact that they, and the tabloids, tend to focus their ire on footballers is entirely a class issue. I'm pretty sure you've talked about that before.
What are the chances that clubs and agents are taking advantage of players in issues like this? Often working class, and focused on football rather than education from a young age. They know the tabloids will eat them up as scapegoats

This must’ve taken ages to research! Thank you for tackling a very dry subject that is very important. Do you think the players actually understand all these tax laws and avoidance measures? I would be very surprised if they were fully aware of what’s going on because it’s extremely complicated. Many regular people cannot understand the cryptic acronyms and numbers on their own paycheck in their own language in their own country.
Having said that, I do understand why they are held responsible for anything that has their signature on it.

It’s not tax avoidance though like even you could pay less tax it’s just you don’t have an accountant who knows how to pay less taxes. It’s actually funny to see people react like you because you don’t understand taxes, I don’t understand taxes, we don’t understand taxes because we’re not the HMRC or accountants and yet people like you think you know what these people should be paying when you don’t. They use loopholes created by the HMRC

Normal people don’t know these rules and so pay a lot more than they actually should
But even you could save on taxes if you had an accountant but you’d be paying more for the accountant than you’d save on taxes
Yh it doesn’t require intelligence or skill it requires an accountant like I said. Until you become an accountant I don’t think you can call it tax avoidance because you don’t know the tax rules.
You know professional gamblers don’t even pay any tax because casino winnings aren’t taxed so are they avoiding tax or just using the rules set by the HMRC

Alfie you should really consider doing a video on the Bosnian men's national team, from being ranked 13 in the world in 2014 and qualifying for the World Cup in Brazil, to not qualifying for a single tournament since, yet managing to win their uefa nation leagues group, but genuinely hitting our lowest point with a 2-0 defeat to Luxembourg. Aging players, players who represent other national teams that are eligible to play for Bosnia but aren't seeming interested, just the genuine geopolitical mess that Bosnia is with how the Dayton agreement was meant to simply end the Bosnian war yet became the country's de facto constitution. I think it would make for a very interesting video, and could even span additional videos like how Velez Mostar are forced to play away from their original stadium in Mostar as it is on the Croatian side of the river, with their old stadium being taken over by Zrinjski Mostar. A club that was actually banned in Yugoslavia because of their nationalistic origin.

This may be new to football but it is not new to some industries. The creative industry (actors, directors, writers etc) runs on a similar fashion between the publisher (Paramount, Sony, Netflix etc) and the "contractors" (actors, directors, writers). So if they do go after football players over image rights, then it will become a precedent to all the above. I doubt this can of worms will be opened.

Not only are wages not the issue in the Premier League, but the salary cap ship has long since sailed in the Premier League, coming from an American. All you do is shift all the wages to easily attainable bonuses and boom, under the salary cap. Also, typically salary caps include a salary floor so promoted clubs will always have to overspend to come up to the floor.

Simplify the tax system. Income is taxed on a three tiered system:
    First 50,000 (0-50,000): 0%
    Second 50,000 (50,001-100,000): 10%

Tax avoidance isn't illegal...well I have no idea about the tax law in UK but if it is anything like the US tax law, tax avoidance is not illegal. Employees, self employed and small business owners pay the most taxes(20-60% tax rate). Employees have their taxes take out before they get paid. Self employed get taxed twice, on the business side and on the personal side(usually around 40-60%). Large businesses pay a 20% tax rate because they employ more than 50 people who pay taxes. Investors pay the lowest tax rate, sometimes 0 as they leverage what they own to make more money. My accountant knows me naked and always tells me, tax evasion is illegal, tax deduction is not. As long as one is providing services and needs that are not provided by the government(housing, food, medical) they get major tax breaks and deductions. This is why big corporations don't pay a lot of taxes. They have accountants that know what they are doing and use the tax law to their advantage.
Most people don't wanna play this game, it's much easier to just be a cog in the system and let them take their money and maybe give it back at the end of the fiscal year. They just want to work and pay bills and complain that they pay too much in taxes and rich people don't pay enough. Learn your countries tax laws and hire an accountant...

    • @davids8127

Finally, an intelligent comment here. You would think that something that is forced upon everyone would make people at least take a second to learn how it works, but no. @@fgsaramago for earned income sure, I already stated that employees have their taxes taken out before being paid. Still, one can itemize deductions to get a bigger return. An accountant helps with this. Once again tax evasion is illegal, tax deduction is not.

      @fgsaramago ปีที่แล้ว

@@MastinoNapoletano420 you didnt quite understand what I was trying to explain. Its not just that taxes are withheld, but also that tax returns are calculated automatically with no human intervention, its all done automatically, deductions also being calculated automatically.
