    Game was very important for several reasons. Winner of this game guaranteed spot in next Candidates. But more importantly, Botvinnik still did not decided if he will defend his title in 1963. FIDE abandoned champion rematch which served Botvinnik so well to regain his title against Smyslov and Tal and champ was not happy about it. He held grudge against FIDE .If Botvinnik would not play, winner of Geller-Keres match would play World Champion match against Curacao Candidates winner Petrosjan. Of course both players were excited to have some chance still to fight for World Champion title next year and tried their very best.
    Gelller-Keres consisted of 8 games and this was the last game. Score was tied 3.5-3.5 and Keres had to win the last game in order to win the match because he had worse Sonneborn-Berger in Candidates. What a timing to bring out his best play !
    Unfortunately for him, Botvinnik decided to play next year, lost convincingly 9.5-12.5 and therefore Petrosjan-Keres W Ch match never happened. I think Keres was better match for Petrosjan in 1963 than Botvinnik was. He was 5 years younger too than old Misha. But Fortuna was against him.

    i did see the move, and i usually do cause im watching your videos for years now. the thing is, keres most likely saw that combination when he played Ne5, sometimes the hardest thing is to create a position for a sacrifice, not the sacrifice itself. thx mato for your work, cheers.

    After having watched your videos, I now (occasionally) dare to sacrifice a piece in order to tear open my opponent's castle and expose his king to attack.
    (If my opponent is Black and has castled kingside -- and if a knight is on f6 or h6, defended only by the pawn on g7 -- then I try to capture that knight in order to expose the king. This tactic has succeeded repeatedly.)

    Mato, I found your comments on this one so interesting. I'm a very amateur chess player (I only play against my co-workers as a way to pass time during night shift lulls) and usually I do not find the moves when you ask to pause, but this time I did very quickly. Just curious -- how did you know? As an aside, after watching your videos, many of my co-workers no longer play me because I always win. I don't think I've actually gotten good at chess, but rather I now think about chess concepts and ideas rather than just being purely reactive.

    You're right. The knight was gonna get killed anyway if the queen escaped, so that move is blatantly obvious for anyone, AND it is a notable feature of your videos to sacrifice a piece to break the castle

    • @Teemu_TV
      @Teemu_TV 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @eduardocostaeu
      @eduardocostaeu 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      e4 and d4 are one of the best ways to start... English opening is also good (c4), but I hope that e4 and d4 is better cause controls the center.
