**Top 5 Illegal Motorcycle Mods That Most Riders Actually Change:** 1) Fender Elimination / No Mudguard 2) License Plate Relocation (Not at the Rear) 3) Integrated Tail Light with Turn Signals 4) Catalytic Converter Exhaust Modification / Removal 5) Non-DOT Headlights with Flush Turn Signals These 5 are way more accurate throughout the board of all MC Riders.
All But #3.. (same rules as a car, and integrated lights are legal, or they would not come with them from manufacturer) and #5-2 Flush turn signals... (so long as they are functional and visible it doesn't matter if they are flush or on a 3' stalk.. Plus on a Bike Turn signals are Not a required item, just don't forget it obligates you to use hand signals w/o them.).Otherwise I like YOUR List-5 100x better than His, as yours actually lists 4-things that many people do that ARE Illegal Mods.. not just click-bait..
My bike is an 05.. No converter from factory.. And my m4 is quieter and lighter then the d&d muffler I got it with. Still jas a pair valve so all emissions equip is still intact perfectly legal exhuast.
Cop:You know why I pulled you over? Rider:Nope Cop:You don't have reflectors on your forks. Rider: So? Cop: Soooo..... reflectors are a safety equipment sir, they make you more visible to surrounding traffic. Rider: Oh...well then I got that covered (flips on under lights) Cop: (blank look on face)
No, actually the cops going to go back and write you the ticket, then tell you to tell the judge. Then you're going to have that look on your face. Then when the cop goes to court he's going to get paid overtime. Then he's going to use that Court money to pay for his Hayabusa. Haha ,,oh wait.,that cop is....me. Hahahahaha
Just retired after 25 years as a police officer. 99.9 percent of officers could care less about any of the subjects you talked about other then speeding and having red or blue under glow lights. Keep riding safe. :)
Can't be. I go as fast as my ZX6R wants to go and police never mind. I've even ridden past speed traps when the bike decides to do a wheelie and they don't mind. My bike has done this in four different states, to be clear.
It's only Illegal if you Stop and let them catch up to you to tell you you were speeding.. as most the time when a bike is speeding its not a matter of 10mph Over the limit, its more 100mph over the limit, and the cops just wave it off thinking, well can't catch'm, if he crashes up the road, Then I'll give'm a ticket for speeding.. So it's only illegal IF/When you are ticketed, proving the speed was illegal, otherwise... Then again I'm Not a Very Ethical person, and believe speed is relative.. ie: if the speed limit is 75mph and you are going 150mph.. actually you are only going 75mph 'relative to traffic(which is probably going 85mph, so really you're only going 65mph, 10-Under limit so kick it up to 160mph)' so as 75mph IS legal limit.. Relatively speaking..
Illinois just this year amended the law motorcycles can have led accent lighting on while in motion so long as the lights are not blue, red or flashing
blue and green are the only ones I've seen cops go nutty over. (green because it's too close to blue) I'm jiggy with no flashing or anything blue...personally, I don't like the accent lights, but, they do really grab attention, which is the name of the game.
Florida: no blue lights anywhere. Red lights only rear facing where the manufacturer places them. Red and blue are emergency vehicle lights so they’re prohibited.
Here in WA state, I've found the rules to be somewhat confusing, but it's mostly a matter of colors and where they're pointed. If they're not pointed towards other drivers and they're not confused with emergency vehicles, they're OK. Best choice is probably either white or yellow pointed down. One of the questions I'll have when I get my bike project done is about what the rules about that are. I'd like more lighting for visibility, but not in a way that's going to cause me problems.
well if bikers want to bee SEEN , then do not rip off the reflectors, if anything, replace them with low beam flood lights ( white ) with flashers ( amber ) .
Yeah I have seen it two or three times and never here in CA, where a huge number of motorcycles are registered. Not sure what world this dude lives in. I guess if your bike is just a show piece to park at a coffee shop that might be cool but that element is pretty small out here. People own them to ride them for the most part and unnecessary lights don't help the ride.
I have white LED's under all of my bikes and loud exhaust because I live in rural Missouri/Kansas and if I hit a deer at night and go down, I want cars to be able to see me in the ditch or fields. I have Red & Blue strobes on my R6 with a siren and my EMS plates as I ride to work and we're allowed to have emergency lighting & sirens on our personal vehicles since we're rural and regularly respond to incidents while out & about in our personal vehicles. I've never had an issue over any kind of lights or my aftermarket exhaust. I do get a lot of funny looks when I'm responding on my bike and a line of cars get passed by a Yellow Flamed out Limited Edition R6 with Cherries & Berry's flashing and a siren wailing 😆

Underbody lights depend on the state. I live in Montana, they're perfectly legal here as long as all that's visible is the glow, not the light itself, depending on the color. If it's a legal color, like red to the rear or amber in either direction then they can be visible, but non legal colors like blue or green or purple, all that can be visible is the glow. At least that's how several LEOs have explained it to me.
oakstream this could be the most important one and cause of many stops leading to other tickets. But this guy obviously isn’t an expert at rules, he stumbled through the whole video not even understanding why. Got to put out a video so here it is ...
@@johnmadsen37 I'm sure also tinted colour headlights but maybe that's not so common. I have one yellow for the rally look and have not had any problems so far.
I seem to recall that several years ago here in Pennsylvania a law was passed that allowed extra lighting on motorcycles as a positive safety factor because it increases their visibility to other motorists.
i felt someone should thumbs down , personally i have a beard , what the hell are these "hipster" people doing with a beard , I can't imagine how it would look bad , unless you got some kinda fucktard ornaments hanging off it. WTF is a hipster beard. now i have to ask Google.
Some states also apparently ban the use of earplugs while riding. Which is absolutely idiotic as the wind noise on a bike is more than high enough to cause hearing damage without earplugs.
I feel like your argument for detail lighting would be undermined by your reflector removal. "I have these lights to be seen!" "Is that why you took your reflectors off?" "Hmm"
DISCLAIMER: Laws vary from state to state 1. Underbody light colors like red and blue are usually illegal and not the lights themselves (some states allow red and blue) 2. changing to after market exhausts also vary state by state, usually it's regulated by decibels. 3. Mirror laws vary by state and yes most (if not all) states do require at least 1 mirror on the bike. 4. Reflectors on the forks vary from state to state, states usually require reflectors some where and that location varies and some states just require it on the license plate. 5. This is correct; in some states it is unlawful to wear anything protruding from your helmet, but most states allow at least cameras. 6. Know YOUR state laws.
This ignorant fool spews facts incorrectly from his mouth through MOST of ALL of his videos, all the while quoting scripture and claiming to be a Christian.
One video I was watching the state trooper said you can't have anything that protrudes more that an inch because it changes how the helmet responds in an accident.
It’s actually NHTSA that says you cannot have more than 1/4” protruding from your helmet. Also, you cannot have your license plate mounted vertically. In WA STATE, bikes that are 25yr or older, do not require mirrors. It’s pretty interesting what you can find in the RCW laws.
huh, you mean to tell us that at your age you never seen a double upper comma ? one upper comma = ' foot two upper comma = '' inches three upper comma = ''' centimeter 4 upper comma = '''' millimeter a yard is 36 '' [ inches ] no such thing as [ feet ] under 12'' [ inches = 1 ' , 1 foot ] , feet is only measured by yards . therefore [ foot ] is the only thing that can be measured by small increments. if the measurement is more than 1 foot [ 1' ] then it becomes feet ( more than 1 foot . . . as in 2 feet, 3 feet , ect because then there is more than 1 ' [ one foot ] of measurement, it then becomes pluralized to [ feet ] . it is impossible to have 1/4 foot [ 25 inches = 25 '' ] dangling from the helmet . . . . . to much wind sheer, drag, and way to heavy for the neck muscles to keep the cam in one forced position . because by time you stop you neck will attain the direction of the cam [ you head will be facing in the area of the cam.] lol you are most welcome

@@r4inxblitz I've read that and asked several cops about it plus the dps👍. As I collected and combined the info plus getting rolled before for blue lights lol I summarized it to this(asked cops at meets to be sure), if the led is directly visible meaning the bulb is out in the open its illegal, if it's a lone light with one color by itself for underglow it's passable if the bulb is hidden. You can't have red-blue-and/or white together in any form. I have straight purple fog lights with gold headlights and no trouble. And on a bike underglow is technically not visible per say from the front when your headlight is on since it's the main focal point until you pass the beam angle. This goes with what you just put down too. That's why I said flashing brake lights and underglow are allowed in Texas. Funny thing too, I saw a challenger with full red halos on pass a sheriff today lol
@@akirony Hey no problem. I was just posting what the law states. And as you know different cops have different opinions on what they think is right and wrong. They write a ticket and if you think it's wrong you go to court to prove that. If you know you are wrong, you pay the fine and go on. And it's good to ask them about it. Most will use it as a Probable Cause (PC) stop. Cause you know, if you ride a sport bike, you are probably breaking the law. And I just noticed that it didn't show all of what I posted earlier. So moral of the story is, obey the law and you won't get pulled over.
The camera thing is true, that’s what injured Michael Schumacher and put him in a coma for awhile (he’s out of it but still not ok). He wasn’t on a bike, but was skiing with a GoPro mounted on the side of his helmet and fell on it. Son was with him and said it wasn’t a bad enough fall to cause the injury by itself, pretty sure it was landing on the camera that did it. Of course, ski helmets are not as strong as bike helmets so not a perfect comparison. Anyway, I think most of us with cameras have mounted them to the helmet from time to time (I know I have) so just be careful out there with them
I think the principal would still be the same though because if you fall on to said object the force of the impact is not distributed the way it would be if the object was not there, effectively concentrating the force to a small area and causing the helmet to fail
The problem is that they catch on things and cause rotationsl injury. That is now known to be a major source of brain injury, probably worse than straight impact
Since you mentioned exhausts I wanted to compliment you on your Suzuki BK. You are one of the only people who don't mess with the beautiful exhausts on your BK. Those stock exhaust on the BK are beautiful. Kudos to you guys for not messing with the BK's pipes
My neighborhood dealer modifies bikes to sell and includes underbody lights. They disagreed with me when I told them they were illegal to use when moving but they also use non DOT approved turn signals etc. They had one bike that alternated between red and blue which would fall under additional statutes regarding mimicking police vehicles.
Two Wheel Troubadour The motorcycle builder of custom motorcycles for the elite named Jesse James was fined hundreds of thousands of dollars for selling motorcycles did did not comply with California and United States EPA regulations. I suppose individuals can get away with it, but a commercial business is sticking their neck out.. look what happened to Malcolm Smith when he was selling Chinese off road vehicles that we’re not approved by the pipe sniffers.
"I'm all about safety." "and maybe speeding. Speeding might be illegal. Ehhh..it's questionable." Love your videos man. Some of the best and most honest anywhere! Totally subscribed
Just had my multistrada inspected , they said my blinking LED tail light was not legal. I am with you about the roadside explanation of why I am not removing it .
Yo what's up , Mr. SRK Dude, AKA Sean. I'm looking Into that that speeding thing ,I Don't know if it's illegal where I'm at so I'm just gonna keep doing it . Keeping it rollin.
Rich31977 When I had my lights done at York Open House years ago, the guy gave me a paper stating they were legal and informed me to hold on to it so if I was pulled over for that reason I could inform the cop of the law.
Enlightened Idiot Believe it or not, red is the most difficult color to see in the dark. Also red raises the blood pressure and make she want to spend money
Guns?...…Do you mean like mounting a 45 cal Long Colt holster into the front cowl up alongside the left side of the tank to hold an AR-15 Pistol at the ready... be sure to use only a 10 or 20 rnd clip due to weight? Guns?... Was that the question?? OR was it to just in general always remember to buy LEFT Hand Holsters, as you need to be able to shoot left handed as the right hand is on the throttle question?? Or was it about the best way to mount your sawed-off w/pistol grip 12ga semi to the left passenger peg using clip-ons?? When you say... Guns?
Aaro R I believe the question was pertaining to the original comment about everything being legal in Mexico, because guns are illegal in Mexico unless you are a government official or a member of a drug cartel who bribe government officials to get special licensing for their weapons..... basically, saying “WRONG” to the original comment.... Hope this cleared it up, and I like your ideas for mounting weaponry, personally I just like dual, vertical, shoulder holsters.... easy and the weapons come with me, not the bike.
@@Rick_Sanchez_C137_ guns are legal for normal people to own in Mexico how ever it is extremely restricted. I do believe that there is only one gun store in the entire country. It however is not 100% illegal. Just a friendly FYI.
For the part 2 sequel, you could look into ape hangers, license plate mounted vertically on one side, extended swingarms, extended chopper forks, and fender deletes.
Vertically mounted plates are legal, at least in Florida, granted they HAVE to be mounted from left at the top to right at the bottom, swing arms are legal too so long as it doesn't have a vin attached (depends on the bike), forks are fine since the vin is stamped on the neck of the frame, fender deletes depend on the state and bike, since they often have lighting attached and some states do not allow any modification to stock lights and signels, I don't know 90% of what you said is legal depending on the state
I completely agree with you on the underglow situation. I’ve been pulled over for having purple underglow because apparently it’s reserved for “funeral vehicles”. Never have I ever heard of such a thing lol. I love to be seen and heard as much as the next guy, a ticket might just save my life one day. My suggestion to people is if you’re completely lighting a bike up, go for white or amber colors. Something that’s already on most vehicles but, to each their own. Ride safe brothers, and thanks Sean for another great upload! I like these list style videos. Definitely would love to see more in the future. 😎
I've been pulled over for underbody lights...I didn't get a ticket...they were looking for drunks & I don't drink, they just used the lights as an excuse to pull me over...after I got home I tried to look up the law & couldn't find even a city ordinance, let alone a federal law against them, the only law I could find about additional lights on a motorcycle, or any other vehicle for that matter, was that they couldn't be visible from the front of the vehicle if the lights were red or blue because those are for emergency vehicles only...aside from that, I found nothing...they never even mentioned my lack of gars (gay a$$ reflectors)...I also have a bike that has no turn signals...I just use hand signals when riding it & never been pulled over on it & I've ridden it through at least 10 states & not heard one word about not having signals...I have figured out that most people these days don't know what hand signals mean & they think I'm waving at them...but at least they see me...
1.I’d never add any underbody lights, I think they’re stupid...2. loud pipes save lives( guilty!).....3. why would you remove the mirrors on a street ridden bike, unless you’re trying to get run over!......4.I never removed any reflectors I want to see and be seen and avoid getting run over!....5. I never added anything like a camera to my helmets, maybe my handlebars. Please don’t say we all do all five.
I'm guilty of not using mirrors. I do look over my shoulder if i need too but it takes away from what happens in front of you. Could be bad. I doubt looking in the mirror would save me from a car charging me from behind doe, i think i'm screwed anyway. Mirrors or not, i still look over my shoulder.
Here in MA and perhaps others, most integrated rear lights are illegal-directionals have to be 9” apart, license plate horizontal, visible, and lit. Most tail tidy kits I’ve seen aren’t compliant.
we have so many laws here in the US that most people are criminals and dont even know it. Most of this stuff is just common sense for motorcycles but lots of laws out there that make little to no sense.
I agree. I moved to US from Britain and expected a 'motor culture ' to be pretty liberal. I soon found out it's highly regulated and things that were legal in Britain are either illegal here or completely impossible to do without getting in serious trouble.
In Arizona EVERYTHING IS Legal.. Until your told its not.. AZ is A Live and Let Live State!! Cowboy Laws State.. Basically so long as what your doing isn't directly harming/going to be harming another, (or their livestock/property).. 99% of the time its gonna be legal..The AZ Laws are for the Safety of their citizens, Not out of Fascism like it is next door in CA.So a Highly Moral and Ethically Challenged person is a Model Arizonan...I LUV AZ!!
I've never been able to figure out WHY people think it's okay to remove the mirrors from their bike... or even go with only one, or move them into spots that offer much less visibility behind them. Hell, I've swapped out mirrors to ones that gave me BETTER visibility before.
it may not pass muster, because one of the reasons for reflectors is to be somewhat noticeable even if your bike is off/un-powered. LED replacements would be more noticeable, for sure, but not when the bike is off, or if you have electrical issues, then you have nuffin'
Currently, California. Lights allowed except red. Also, they have to be mounted within a certain distance away from your standards lights so as not to interfere with anyone being able to see your brakes, blinkers and headlights properly.
In Massachusetts, the helmet law is something along the lines of rigid or permanent attachments are illegal. It's largely meant to be a deterrent to modifying helmets and decreasing their safety. Also, in-helmet communications systems are illegal unless required for "safety or navigational" purposes.
Do you mean "Illinois, you are only required to have one side mirror"? "You are required to have only one side mirror" technically means it's illegal to have two.
Reading the law in MN, Lights can be on if they are white and non-flashing. I haven't had an issue riding with the white lights and then flip the blinky color on when at lot.
In a lot of states you can run under body lights, you just can't use certain colors. As far as helmets go with GoPros/Comms and such... If you read the FEDERAL guidelines on helmets it gives specs on how far something can extend from a helmet and says you can't attach anything. So what the states are doing is using that wordage to say people can't attach GoPros. However #1 that wording is in regards to the manufacturing of the helmet, not in regards to the consumer. #2 its a federal regulation for the helmet makers, local police aren't compelled to enforce federal laws.
If your helmet isn't going to protect you from a gopro what good is it? So many laws are just silly. Someone needs to start a country without government but with very secure borders that requires an iq test to inhabit.
No sir! I hear our immigration screening is already to much for current non-resident wishing to become citizens! Sir! You can't have a country that's better than others, and then require some procedures and testing that would keep your country great! What is wrong with you for wanting a decent civilization? You're a jerk! An animal! A crazy person!! Lol
1. Under bike lighting depends on the state you are in. 2. Majority of after market exhausts are approved. And yes if an exhaust is marked for off road use only of course it is illegal. 3. 4. Depends on which state you are in. 5. This is pretty obvious. Helmets are not designed to have objects stuck to them.
Of course I'm nice to LEOs, and I carry. Here in Iowa it's just a CW permit, or carry weapons, open or concealed. But if I'm legally carrying and I get pulled over for not having the reflectors on the front of my bike, me having a gun or not isn't going to change the ticket. If it's a $50 fine then that's the ticket I'll get and be on my way.
This was handy to know. Good video I think any one who removes the reflectors and threw them in the woods, really? At least recycle them. Did anyone else machine off the reflector off your HD front forks? What about the bike shop that put a past inspection sticker on it??

For what it’s worth -Aftermarket exhaust may make peak power at higher rpm’s than the motorcycle is tuned for at the factory. Just keep in mind. The factory’s spend millions tuning your engine, tuning begins at the entrance of the airbox-all the way to the exit of the exhaust pipe.. other than making noise, or if you crash your motorcycle and an aftermarket exhaust is less expensive then the factory replacement parts,or possibly cutting a little bit of weight, ....by the way isn’t going to make a noticeable difference to over 99% of the street riders out there, aftermarket exhaust’s hurt overall drivability throughout the RPM range. Oh they may make a little more power at very high rpm’s, but it hurts overall drivability. Your engine is designed, tuned with very many variables taking into consideration. Not just bore/stroke, cam timing, Cham Lyft, valve area, valve timing, ignition timing curves, which is designed to work hand in hand with cam timing, with valve area, with airflow, and the transmission ratios are designed to work hand-in-hand with the width of the power band. The science behind airbox airflow is very much like the design of an airplane wing. It’s not just the box with an air filter in it. I’m not talking about stone age technology like Harleys. I’m talking about modern motorcycles that have to compete with other brands for your dollar. So the factory has these problems mostly figured out including average temperature and altitude that the machine will be operated at.. they have to make allowances for a motorcycle that’s going to be driven at sea level and and at a place like Denver which is a mile Above sea level.... I am proof that the factory knows more than you do when it comes to modifications. I was an amateur road racer for eight years. My first year I modified everything, and made my motorcycle slower with every engine mod..At the end of my first season, I actually quit racing. But then the second season came around and I got that adrenaline rush again. I went out and bought a stock machine, and I swore I was not going to make any changes to the engine, air box, or exhaust pipes.Over the next seven years, I won six championships, Night bye just accumulating points, but by winning the race us.I was the WERA national champion, the AMA national champion in my class. My racing weight was 190 pounds. Some of my competitors on the exact same machines weighed 130 pounds, and I out motored them by a couple miles an hour in top gear .. I was protested often and had to prove I was not cheating inspectors check out my engine with the heads off. I wasn’t cheating.. oh I did modifications which were permitted like moved the foot pegs, changed over all gearing, changed shock, fork springs, I replaced grease in wheel bearings with 10 weight motor oil, I gave myself maximum wheelbase by adding links to the chain, but I left the airbox completely stock I even left the stock paper elements in the air box. I left the silencers in the mufflers. I set the timing to factory spec. I actually ran regular gasoline and not premium, because regular gives off more BTU . It also burns faster. In my engine with factory designed compression ratio’s.I would have used high test which actually burns slower & cooler but I had no evidence of preignition or detonation. So in my experience..All of my competitors, I mean all of them dialed their bikes out rather than in with modifications.like pipe mods and no air box..If only they had left their machines factory stock and just concentrated on how to ride faster rather than try to learn how to tune the machine. The factory knows more than you do, leave it alone. Street riders think they are going faster when they’re making more noise.I have had dozens of motorcycles, dozens and dozens. I will not buy a motorcycle that has it’s tuning modified or has aftermarket exhaust. I just don’t do it because of experience I’ve had with customers coming into those motorcycle shops I have worked at over the years complaining about dead spots in there power delivery and hesitation coming off the line or when twisting the throttle quickly or surging problems. I especially will not touch a motorcycle that has carburetors that has had a Dyno jet kit installed. That means there have been modifications with a drillbit done to the carburetors. That’s not Reversible.I won’t buy them, and I advise people that come to me for advice or to check out a motorcycle they are buying, I advise them not to buy a motorcycle that’s been modified Lights: Lights under the motorcycle: that’s a good point about safety and being seen. There was one little thing that makes sense to me about that. BUT: There is a condition called target fixation.. everybody has it. That is, when you see an object approaching you on the road, and you can’t figure out what it is, you want to stare at it. There’s the problem. Whether you know it or not, you steer where you are looking. When I teach new riders, I tell them,do not look where you do not want to go. Approaching traffic will see this unusual sight coming at them in the dark. They will look at it trying to figure out what it is most of the time. They end up driving right at you head on.. this is a proven fact, example: Montana installed a so called safety device on state police vehicles. It was the headlight modulation system that made the headlights flicker up down up down while they were driving. I have seen this on some motorcycles. We’re at appears that the driver is flashing his highbeams on and off. The results of those flashing lights on Montana state police cars -they had the highest incidence of head on collisions at night of any police force in the nation. Oncoming cars were driving right into them head on...unknowingly because of target fixation... Example 2: I had one of those tail light flashing modulators on my motorcycle. The taillight would act normally when you were not touching the brake levers. But when you hit the brake levers, the lights would flash three times and then stay on for a couple seconds then flash three times then stay on for a couple seconds over and over as long as you were holding the brake lever on. I was sitting at a stop sign waiting my turn commuting to work one morning. A car came up behind me and smashed into me knocking me out of work for nine months, damaging my shoulder, and it didn’t do my motorcycle much good either. I had my aerostitch suit /my boots /my full face helmet/gloves on... while I was laying their semi conscious, coming to, I heard the man that crashed into me explaining to the police “I saw his tail light flashing, and I thought he was pulling out”... The lesson I learned: don’t modify or deviate from factory taillights or headlights. Not even in the name of safety. If it is something people haven’t seen before, they react differently. If under bike lights is something that people haven’t seen before, a lot of times. they Will fixate on it, stare at it, and unknowingly drift into your lane, head on.!! Take it or leave it, from a 700,000+ mile street bike rider since 1968. I worked in 4 different motorcycle dealerships part time over 17 years. I heard lots of the complaints and saw lots of damage modifications have done ..I also saw and lived it at the race tracks. By the way, you may not want to wear a helmet, I have to admit, I’ve had my share of crashes at race tracks, and I only scuffed my helmet two times. I destroyed one helmet one time. But, I always destroyed the gloves. The first thing you do is put your hands down when you bail out..Wear good gloves... if you are lucky, you may not hit your head on the ground, but even if you are lucky, you will put your hands down.. wear good gloves- leather... I know many of you will discount this advice as being from a has been. It’s better to be a has been, than a never been...
Florida, you’re right, its a lot of words, but it reads in under two minutes.....it’s called cabin fever...here in the north, we’re stuck in our houses when there’s snow on the ground. Now you guys actually get to ride in the south in November December January. But in the summer, you guys are stuck in the house when it’s 95° and 99% humidity for months
Harry Lime I was born and raised in upstate NY so I can relate to cabin fever! I moved to Florida when I was 18 and honestly, I’ll be moving away when I retire. It is too hot. However, I ride 12 months a year. The hot season isn’t too bad if you plan when you ride. I don’t miss the snow very much but I do have a desire to ride a snowmobile again!
Harry Lime , 100% agree, I live in Pa & did track days for yrs. I know guys & girls who can do faster lap times on a stock Ninja 300 against guys on modified 600's & 1000's. Your $ would be better spent on a riding/racing school than on senseless mods. It's all about a riders skill level. Save your money loose weight, get in shape & learn hoe to ride these incredible machines properly, they're perfect straight from the factory
I deliberately replaced the side reflectors on my Bergman 650 with active LED lighting. Plenty of hard evidence that active sideways pointing lights improve your visual detectability, especially during the "high accident risk" twilight times, and by extension "should" bring you into the driving plan of any other road users (the "Should" sometimes being somewhat optimistic . . .)
Wow, 30 sec in to the video you claim most bikes out there have under body lights. Really, most bikes??? And mirrors, do you understand that not all states require mirrors???? Quit lying to people, maybe encourage them to know their local laws. Cant do it anymore, unsubscribed.
Speed Daemon are you ok? This seemed very traumatic to you. Are you able to do it anymore? Google SSRI, it could help you cope with little insignificant videos.
You're 100% right! He should have totally specified that it isn't illigal in Indiana or Vermont to drive without mirrors. For your Texas riders, most people dont know about this one either. *Malorie's Law passed in 2013 which states that if a motorcycle is designed to carry more than one person then it must be equipped with footrests and handholds for use by the passenger.
Illegal, but I bought it that way, and price for even stock pipes it outrageous. I feel self conscious about them, but I do notice people start checking mirrors when I get close to them, so I know they are aware of me over the windows rolled up with the radio jamming. I wear ear plugs when I'm riding and I dont roll through residential areas wide open throttle. I keep my revs down low, barely above an idle.
Yeah around here if you are on a twin cylinder cruiser and have straight pipes that make peoples ears bleed you are a OK. If you are on a sportbike you are $$ to cops. Same goes for trucks. They cruise around with ear deafening exhausts and coos don't bat an eye. If youbare in a car with even an aftermarket muffler even one that isn't loud. If they think its aftermarket they are all about writing them tickets.
@@sinformant I live near an interstate and I dont hear v twins at night, I hear sport bikes wound out and screaming, the sound carries....far. @@misterj5045 yeah there are a lot of jackasses on sportbikes. I was just stating how things tend to work around here as far as how law enforcement chooses to enforce the law. And I ride a sport bike as well, but it is a vtwin.
Hello, I am a NJ certified NJ Drivers Education teacher & (former) MSF instructor. NJ laws may be slightly different than PA, but this is my interpretation: #1) Underbody lights: Have to be DOT approved colors (Red, White or Amber) No strobe or flashing lights allowed. #2) Exhaust: Illegal to remove spark arrestor or catalytic converter if equipped. Inspection eleiminated as of 2010. #3) Mirrors: DOT approved #5) NJ: DOT approved helmet plus eye protection. PA Law is anyone under 21 must wear a helmet & eye protection that is DOT approved and properly labeled by manufacturer. Nothing illegal about affixing electronics to helmets either here or PA.,
I live in Australia and I’m pretty sure the Go-Pro thing went through the courts. They are very strict here when it comes to helmets, and and helmets that haven’t gone through Australian testing are illegal but as for the camera, the whole thing was a permanent modification to your helmet no longer stands up to Australian standards but was argued by a few vloggers that no permanent mod was made as it’s just stuck on with tape. I could be wrong but I don’t think the cops can get you for a camera anymore. 👍
It's been my experience that cops from coast to coast selectively enforce the laws and in the case of motorcycles essentially ignore them. Straight pipes, stripped mufflers, even resonators are ignored in favor of expired registrations, and the like. WTF?? I've done my share of riding and never felt the need to express my inferiority complex by making as much noise as I could. For people my age it's amusing to experience this until it becomes personal, as in disturbing someones sleep. So, keep on keeping on. The cops can't hear you from the donut shop.
Just saw this video popping up in my timeline and watched it. Number 5 might be stupid in your eyes but it is not. At this side of the pond we have a 7 time Formula 1 world champion named Michael Schumacher. Some years ago Michael was on a ski vacation, wearing a ski helmet and a GoPro attached to it. He fell, whilst not going fast. He hit a rock, the GoPro made the helmet crack and he needed brain surgery. His family keeps their lips sealed about his condition. He has survived it all but rumours go he can only blink his eyes. Doctors have stated he would have walked away from his accident if the GoPro hadn't been attached.
Cameras are only illegal if they compromise the structural integrity of the helmet such as putting screws or bolts through your helmet. Adhesive attachments are absolutely fine, which is probably what Sena does I guess. But ya if it can break off in a crash, you're good.
MANY Exhaust manufacturers have Certification Stickers that are either legal in 49 or all 50 States... Not ALL, of course, but many of them...such as Akro and Yoshi ... are LEGAL! (If you have not also eliminated or gutted that 'CAT'..) Drilling holes in your helmet to mount spikes, or even many of the adhesives you might stick them on with, can degrade the strength and 'integrity' of the outer shell of your helmet, causing it to crack or even to Fail in a crash! The 'side marker reflectors' are required on all vehicles, to be certain that they can be seen from the sides, at intersections or coming out of parking lots and driveways and such. I think the requirement is a 'minimum of 3 sq. inches' of reflective, or lit, surface... Of course, if you have the 'body lights' you will be Very Visible from All Directions! (smile) Also -- the reason NO cameras or other 'attachments' are allowed in Racing, or during Track Days -- is because those 'protrusions' can 'dig in' or catch on surface irregularities, curbs, potholes, mounds of dirt, etc. -- and Jerk your head and neck around, causing various levels of injury! And in racing situations, spikes and other such 'trim items' could also harm Other Riders! [Suppose you are riding in the rain or sandy conditions, and your buddy suddenly stops in front of you! (Maybe something you couldn't see) and you can't stop quite quickly enough...and you bump into the back of his bike! You pitch forward at impact...head over the Bars...and right INTO your buddy's back!] I don't mention these things as "a Know-it-all".. LOL!! But I am a Tech Inspector for a Racing Sanctioning Organization... (smile) I have cameras mounted on my Bike, but not on my helmet...but I DO have a SENA unit on my helmet! And my Yoshi Exhaust does have the Cert Sticker on it...and they will have to take it apart to see if I 'damaged' my CAT materials... And they would have to have a copy of the Factory ECU Flash to find out that mine is not 'stock', or to see that my throttle bodies and air box have been modified... BTW -- in 2017 and early 2018, there was a Federal Grant Program sending BIG CASH out to State Patrol Departments across the Nation that 'Rewarded' them for Motorcycle-Specific Roadside inspections of motorcycles for "Non-Factory Modifications"... ANYTHING that was not FACTORY STOCK -- even Dealer-Installed Options -- was Prohibited! And they could Impound your Bike on the spot, in addition to Citations demanding the return to Stock. Thru Efforts of the AMA and some other groups, that was finally determined to be illegal focus on a specific group.
Underbody lights are completely legal (moving or stationary, any color,) in Pa. under Pa motor vehicle code title 75 "motorcycle accent lighting". Only restriction is they can not flash while in motion. This law does vary state to state
+redeyetrucker67 I can say and think they are ugly but choose to use them because they are safe. My high biz jacket is ugly but I wear it almost every day
Also to add what’s illegal is riding without visibility on, riding with loud speakers that can level a block as they say, and riding while it’s wet (note I didn’t say while it’s raining). Riding without headlights turned on doesn’t matter what time of the day.
In Pennsylvania, where you are located, "Underbody lights" as you call them, are completely legal. It's in title 75. It may not be the same in every state which is why I have mine on an auxiliary switch, but in PA, they are legal. The cops may hassle you about colors, but the lights themselves are fine, just avoid red and blue on the front.
4:34 so to answer the question, basically if you “modify” your helmet with a camera or anything for that matter, it’s no longer “DOT approved” because you technically “ modified” it. I don’t agree with it I’m just telling you that’s why they can get you on a technicality. At the end of the day they can get you on several other thousand laws written into the vehicle code whether you’re in a car or a bike.
Yeah, full exhausts aren't EPA regulated for emissions, so they can only be used on the track legally. Never heard of anyone actually getting dinged for it other than the noise. However, I do know that some slip on cans are approved by the EPA, not sure how that would work though since most of the air cleaning stuff is done in the cat, so EPA approval probably just means for the noise level
The DOT regulation for the helmet states. A "permanently mounted object cannot extend more than 1/4 inch from the helmet". So your gopro and com are ok since they can be removed, however the mount can not stick out more than 1/4 inch
interesting side note about exhausts laws; some regions the noise limit is set at 80db , several vehicles new from showroom floors already exceed that like Ducatis which very from 92 to 94db ;due to differences in testing methods accuracy is an issue as such in some places exhaust noise would be overlooked so long as its not too excessive and vehicle operator is mindful of others

2) License Plate Relocation (Not at the Rear)
3) Integrated Tail Light with Turn Signals

5) Non-DOT Headlights with Flush Turn Signals

You should have a word to your bike!
I talk to my bike all the time, but you have to talk nicely to it.
Virginia legalized Amber and red in July.
Maryland: can illuminate the engine compartment, cannot be red or blue and not flash

DISCLAIMER: Laws vary from state to state
1. Underbody light colors like red and blue are usually illegal and not the lights themselves (some states allow red and blue)
2. changing to after market exhausts also vary state by state, usually it's regulated by decibels.
Why would anyone take off their mirrors?
It’s actually NHTSA that says you cannot have more than 1/4” protruding from your helmet. Also, you cannot have your license plate mounted vertically.
In WA STATE, bikes that are 25yr or older, do not require mirrors. It’s pretty interesting what you can find in the RCW laws.
+Bruce Brown we can in pa we have special verticals license plates

1/4 what inches centmeters , millimeters , feet. yards. WTF is a 1/4
huh, you mean to tell us that at your age you never seen a double upper comma ?
one upper comma = ' foot
two upper comma = '' inches
three upper comma = ''' centimeter
4 upper comma = '''' millimeter
a yard is 36 '' [ inches ]
no such thing as [ feet ] under 12'' [ inches = 1 ' , 1 foot ] , feet is only measured by yards .
therefore [ foot ] is the only thing that can be measured by small increments. if the measurement is more than 1 foot [ 1' ] then it becomes feet ( more than 1 foot . . . as in 2 feet, 3 feet , ect because then there is more than 1 ' [ one foot ] of measurement, it then becomes pluralized to [ feet ] .
it is impossible to have 1/4 foot [ 25 inches = 25 '' ] dangling from the helmet . . . . . to much wind sheer,
drag, and way to heavy for the neck muscles to keep the cam in one forced position . because by time you stop you neck will attain the direction of the cam [ you head will be facing in the area of the cam.] lol
you are most welcome

@@r4inxblitz I've read that and asked several cops about it plus the dps👍. You can't have red-blue-and/or white together in any form. I have straight purple fog lights with gold headlights and no trouble. And on a bike underglow is technically not visible per say from the front when your headlight is on since it's the main focal point until you pass the beam angle.
Exactly, just wear the camera on you chest or mount in on the tank.

For the part 2 sequel, you could look into ape hangers, license plate mounted vertically on one side, extended swingarms, extended chopper forks, and fender deletes.
Vertically mounted plates are legal, at least in Florida, granted they HAVE to be mounted from left at the top to right at the bottom, swing arms are legal too so long as it doesn't have a vin attached (depends on the bike), forks are fine since the vin is stamped on the neck of the frame, fender deletes depend on the state and bike, since they often have lighting attached and some states do not allow any modification to stock lights and signels, I don't know 90% of what you said is legal depending on the state
In his state (Pennsylvania), the DMV actually offers vertically oriented plates if desired.
Xluhtz good tip! I just had them installed on my bike and it really makes it more visible after the sun goes down or in dark, shady areas!
Reserved for funerals? Tell them you are on your way to your own funeral, you just don't know the date. Because true.
Can't get a ticket if they can't catch you 😎
they always do
I've been pulled over for underbody lights...I didn't get a ticket...they were looking for drunks & I don't drink, they just used the lights as an excuse to pull me over...after I got home I tried to look up the law & couldn't find even a city ordinance, let alone a federal law against them, the only law I could find about additional lights on a motorcycle, or any other vehicle for that matter, was that they couldn't be visible from the front of the vehicle if the lights were red or blue because those are for emergency vehicles only...aside from that, I found nothing...they never even mentioned my lack of gars (gay a$$ reflectors)...I also have a bike that has no turn signals...I just use hand signals when riding it & never been pulled over on it & I've ridden it through at least 10 states & not heard one word about not having signals...I have figured out that most people these days don't know what hand signals mean & they think I'm waving at them...but at least they see me...
Lol @ everyone has underbody lights 😂
Im pretty sure the gopro thing is only if your helmet doesnt have factory mounts for it. Any modifications to a helmet void the dot compliance.
Please don’t say we all do all five.
.
You think underbody lights are stupid, but you never remove reflector, because you want to be seen???
lanechange I do want to be seen ,but not seen as stupid, if you know what I mean.
lil chergennies Come Prende no
Here in MA and perhaps others, most integrated rear lights are illegal-directionals have to be 9” apart, license plate horizontal, visible, and lit. Most tail tidy kits I’ve seen aren’t compliant.
Underbody/underglow lights are perfectly legal in Texas.
Confederate Son no noise level for motorcycle either
VA just allowed Red and Amber LED underglow (what you called underbody lights) this summer. Just installed mine today!
The question about wether speeding is illegal?
A state trooper cleared that one up for me recently.
It is.
LOL!
Great post. Lousy luck, but great post.
So is THAT a Hipster Beard???
Haven't had an Pa state inspection sticker in ... well never unless the bike had one on when I bought it
we have so many laws here in the US that most people are criminals and dont even know it. Most of this stuff is just common sense for motorcycles but lots of laws out there that make little to no sense.
I agree. I moved to US from Britain and expected a 'motor culture ' to be pretty liberal. I soon found out it's highly regulated and things that were legal in Britain are either illegal here or completely impossible to do without getting in serious trouble.
they know it is aftermarket off road bs before putting on
The gopro deal is the helmet has been modified. Helmets are rigorously tested for DOT approval. Any modification voids the DOT approval.
DOT approval is worthless. Look at Fortnine's video for the explanation lol.
Hmm interesting in the state of Arizona we don’t really care about anything lol hell we don’t need to have emission for motorcycle either lol
Currently running a straight pipe, lane splitting has never been easier.
wonder how many cops have just learned something 😂
What if I converted the reflectors into color corresponding leds so instead of reflecting they light up?
+Kenny G. That sounds like it would be lawful. But I’m no lawyer so don’t take my advice
I'm thinking like in terms of clearance lights I drive tow trucks for a living and we live for clearance lights
I have no reflectors on my 1966 Triumph. I've never had any cop say anything about it
Of course it's a 66 might be different
it may not pass muster, because one of the reasons for reflectors is to be somewhat noticeable even if your bike is off/un-powered.
This guy is hard to listen to
I thought he was going to throw up as much as he was belching
kinda hard to look at too
In Massachusetts, the helmet law is something along the lines of rigid or permanent attachments are illegal. It's largely meant to be a deterrent to modifying helmets and decreasing their safety. Also, in-helmet communications systems are illegal unless required for "safety or navigational" purposes.
Illinois, you are required to have only one side mirror.
Do you mean "Illinois, you are only required to have one side mirror"?
"You are required to have only one side mirror" technically means it's illegal to have two.
Reading the law in MN, Lights can be on if they are white and non-flashing. I haven't had an issue riding with the white lights and then flip the blinky color on when at lot.
squids take off their mirrors... if I see that I won't ride with u...
Real men remove the brakes.
Lol
@@seanwiessner3584 You forgot "raciss".
🤣🤣
Underbody lights are legal in Virginia as long as they are either amber or red, are pointed down, and less than a certain brightness.
What's are Merrz? Mirror! MIRRA!!!!!..............😀👀
I always comply with LEOs, since I have a CCW permit, and they know that as soon as they run your plate. Be nice to your LEOs.
Most people with CCW are pretty much the most law abiding people you'll find cause they can nail you for anything at that point so why give an excuse
Good video
I think any one who removes the reflectors and threw them in the woods, really? At least recycle them. Did anyone else machine off the reflector off your HD front forks? What about the bike shop that put a past inspection sticker on it??
Loud pipes save lives. Just don't go banging the fuel cut at 8am past anyone's house.....
I do state inspections here in texas we don't have to have blinkers, reflectors, or mirrors. Just have to have a headlight , horn, and brake light.
Drunks drive into the light.
Red Sky So we should ride at night without lights on? Lol dumb comment
@@grprather if you want to, Me I use real bright lights. I was just stating a fact, Drunk Drivers drive into and crash into lights all the time. Just what they do.

This guy obviously is right- anyone who is smart enough t reognize bad grammar is someone I’ll listen to any day.
That’s not Reversible.I won’t buy them, and I advise people that come to me for advice or to check out a motorcycle they are buying, I advise them not to buy a motorcycle that’s been modified
Lights:
Lights under the motorcycle: that’s a good point about safety and being seen. There was one little thing that makes sense to me about that.
BUT:
There is a condition called target fixation.. everybody has it.
They end up driving right at you head on.. this is a proven fact, example:
Montana installed a so called safety device on state police vehicles.
Example 2:
I had one of those tail light flashing modulators on my motorcycle.
Harry Lime way too long of a post. Quit reading by 3rd paragraph.
1z ooi,
Harry Lime , 100% agree, I live in Pa & did track days for yrs.

What about the LOUD ASF exhaust on the FUKEN Harley’s
Illegal, but I bought it that way, and price for even stock pipes it outrageous. I feel self conscious about them, but I do notice people start checking mirrors when I get close to them, so I know they are aware of me over the windows rolled up with the radio jamming. I wear ear plugs when I'm riding and I dont roll through residential areas wide open throttle. I keep my revs down low, barely above an idle.
It's not just Harley's are loud, you should hear my Honda Shadow
Yeah around here if you are on a twin cylinder cruiser and have straight pipes that make peoples ears bleed you are a OK. If you are on a sportbike you are $$ to cops. Same goes for trucks. They cruise around with ear deafening exhausts and coos don't bat an eye. If youbare in a car with even an aftermarket muffler even one that isn't loud. If they think its aftermarket they are all about writing them tickets.
@@sinformant I live near an interstate and I dont hear v twins at night, I hear sport bikes wound out and screaming, the sound carries....far. When I hear them I know they are traveling triple digit speeds and every LEO in the area does too, and that is the reputation of a sportbike, so they are a magnet and get tagged when and how they can.
@@misterj5045 yeah there are a lot of jackasses on sportbikes. I was just stating how things tend to work around here as far as how law enforcement chooses to enforce the law. Hell a few of the local pd drive mustangs, corvettes, and the likes with loud exhaust for personal cars. I received a ticket for the exhaust on my car from an officer simply because it was modified. I bought my car from the dealer with this exhaust on it and it isn't even loud. That same officer drives an 03 svt cobra mustang with a Whipple charger, 150 shot of nitrous, aggressive cams and 3" straight pipe exhaust you can hear a mile away. Lol. And I ride a sport bike as well, but it is a vtwin.
Thanks for letting me know I have broken every one of those laws...and will continue to do so..
Did he say front swingarm.... ffs!!!
Hello, I am a NJ certified NJ Drivers Education teacher & (former) MSF instructor. NJ laws may be slightly different than PA, but this is my interpretation:
#1) Underbody lights: Have to be DOT approved colors (Red, White or Amber) No strobe or flashing lights allowed.
#2) Exhaust: Illegal to remove spark arrestor or catalytic converter if equipped. Inspection eleiminated as of 2010.
#3) Mirrors: DOT approved
#5) NJ: DOT approved helmet plus eye protection.
Your videos help tremendously thank you
It's been my experience that cops from coast to coast selectively enforce the laws and in the case of motorcycles essentially ignore them.
My bike is in the shop so I've been Bing watching yalls bike videos. Pretty sure my wife has had enough but there's a tv in the bedroom. Lol.
Underbody lights are legal in nebraska as long as they dont flash mote than 150 feet from the vehicle
Lol....first thing I did when I got home from the dealership was pop off all the reflectors
Not ALL, of course, but many of them...such as Akro and Yoshi ... are LEGAL! (If you have not also eliminated or gutted that 'CAT'..)
Drilling holes in your helmet to mount spikes, or even many of the adhesives you might stick them on with, can degrade the strength and 'integrity' of the outer shell of your helmet, causing it to crack or even to Fail in a crash! (smile)
Also -- the reason NO cameras or other 'attachments' are allowed in Racing, or during Track Days -- is because those 'protrusions' can 'dig in' or catch on surface irregularities, curbs, potholes, mounds of dirt, etc. You pitch forward at impact...head over the Bars...and right INTO your buddy's back!]
I don't mention these things as "a Know-it-all".. LOL!! But I am a Tech Inspector for a Racing Sanctioning Organization... (smile)
I have cameras mounted on my Bike, but not on my helmet...but I DO have a SENA unit on my helmet!
This law does vary state to state
You said reflectors are ugly but you're all about safety, what you mean is you're all about safety as long as you think it makes you look cool
I did not know this about the aftermarket exhaust pipes, the undercarriage lights and the GoPro camera. Good information.
