Glad to see you back at it. Wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your and some of the other traditional hunter videos. I've always been a traditional bow hunter at heart and with all the modern compounds and even most states opening archery season up to crossbows I was beginning to feel like the lone ranger with my old recurves and longbows. Glad I found all these channels with all that good information. Means a lot to some of us out here. Good hunting. Hope you get yourself another deer soon.

All things considered I understand your appreciation about returning to lock ons or a platform of any kind. I too have transitioned over to a saddle system and the new style lock on/platform. I will say while just in a harness alone I feel far more safer in these new style lock on stands compared to the older but with a saddle or a hybrid harness/saddle it really is safe. I would not shy away or hesitate one bit from a least locking on a small saddle platform or even a full size lockon. While your relying on the saddle system it is at least nice to have a small platform to bare some weight every so often and relieve any aches or pains 😅 I suffer from sciatic nerve pain and it's been years since I've truly been comfortable hunting for long periods. A saddle and a "relief" platform is about as good as I've gotten... I've chosen XOP for the price point. Cold world or retrograde(milled aluminum ) for a smaller lockon that can double as a saddle platform although I started with the vanish evo (cast aluminum) that is very affordable! XOP mondo saddle while not the best I'd say a good bang for your buck and is my current saddle but as I continue to run saddle in future I may fine tune my equipment as I see fit. The mondo is nice because it's a saddle/harness hybrid and very comfortable. Allows you to be tethered in multiple spots or change your points of safety if needing to sit for a break if your using a lock on setup

This may be too long, Robert, so if you want to delete it, I got it. But my saddle saved me.
I was out bow hunting, Nov 7, with my longbow, I was using my 5 year old CRUZR XC and my new LWCG Ranger Hybrid platform. I was 15 feet up and suddenly very very dizzy.
As I sat down on the Ranger seat, I looped my 2 year old CRUZR tether over my left shoulder. The next thing I knew, I had passed out and fallen off the platform.
When I came back to consciousness, I could see the sky, the tree and my tether. I was hanging by my bridge, parallel to the ground, approximately 15 feet up. Once I realized where I was and what had happened, I grabbed the tether and used it to get back on the platform.
My longbow and arrow were laying on the ground where they had fallen. I was not feeling well, but managed to get down safely and get my Ranger down as well.
I'm 70 years young and I have a condition where my blood sugar can crash, drop very quickly. In worst cases, I will pass-out. I carry glucose tabs, and after resting and eating them once i got down, my blood sugar stabilized.
I am convinced that I would have been severely injured if not for the saddle and the tether.
I do not think either the saddle or the tether were damaged, but my upcoming Christmas bonus will be used to purchase a new XC, a new tether and lineman belt and the others retired.
I will not stop saddle hunting, but it has given me a reason to pause and reflect. The good Lord decided He needed me here for a while longer. Thank you, Father.
    Yall stay safe.

@@sarafayelawton652 glad you did not hit the ground!!! Safety is my biggest concern and I feel good with the saddle system. I've not hunted one time with it yet but practicing in the yard. I'll use it hunting once I get the bugs out.

Great video Robert!! I have been hunting with saddle equipment for awhile. Went back to LW Assault 2stand and 3 sticks like Jason. John Tucker Tactisaddle makes really nice saddles. I'm using one of his tree harness/rock climbing sling. Works great best of both worlds. Tree hopper makes a really good sling saddles also. They are really safe! Thanks for your video's

Check out some of the videos of the JX3 hybrid saddle. Super comfortable and safe. I use 3 Tethrd Skeletor sticks and the knaider/swaider from Eastern Woods Outdoors. I've been using one for 4 years and eventually sold my Lone Wolf climber because I never used it again after getting the saddle. 63 yo and a tad over my playing weight. Good luck.

Brother I have been wishing you would consider a saddle ever since I found your channel. I absolutely love hunting from my saddle. I have a Tethrd Phantom XL saddle and skeletor sticks and I bought a trophy line platform from my local archery shop but the tethrd platforms are awesome as well. The platforms look like tiny locking but are MUCH more secure on the tree. A ring of steps is also a fantastic option. For me, the key is a pair of knee pads so I can occasionally sit with my knees against the tree. I feel safest in my saddle and am very comfortable. Go's bless you brother and good luck. I truly hope that you enjoy a saddle as much as I do.

Glad to see you are back in the woods! Your videos inspired me to try hunting from the ground. I still hunt from a tree but I think you gotta have multiple tools so you can be prepared for every situation. Last week It all came together and I got one from the ground with the longbow!

funnels can be tricky, especially in places where storms have trashed the area. I think the saddle would kill my knees, but maybe it will be fine for you. the main thing is being safe and yet productive. I don't recon that I have ever heard them called that but they would mess up a mirror for sure. Good luck Robert, you have 2 freezers to fill LOL.

Robert, If you wanted to be very safe with saddle hunting with sticks you could climb with linesman belt and with your tether on (advance tether up the tree as you climb). JRB climbing methods may be the safest but that is opening a can of worms! Be safe!

It might be different where you live but, where I live you are at an extreme disadvantage ground hunting with a Traditional Bow. The deer are just to jumpy. I have done it but more times than not you end up busted or they jump the string.
