Hey folks, if y'all are looking to pick up any base layers or anything else from First Lite, they're running a Black Friday sale right now. Please use this link if you're headed that way. rb.gy/u1oniy
I'm way too old and out of shape to backpack hunt any more but I enjoy looking at your hunting technique and new gear. Wool socks and outer wear was the only choice in the 70's and earlier with denim jeans. Denim is not good for anywhere that's going to get cold and wet. Good to see another Idaho kid on the hunt. Keep doing what you're doing.
I’ll say that the 308 pants are really good. Pretty quiet, warm, tough as well. I used them the whole season in MT they are solid. Enjoy your videos, thanks.
Clay, I don't see anything on Liz's channel about freeze drying. We are thinking of getting one. Some videos of what she does would be great!!! Stay safe.
We dehydrate all of our own food, have for years now, and I always toss in a bit of whiskey. A pull to warm-up sitting on a windy ridge or a good night cap in a windy tent just makes things better.
@@oIJustForFunIoIn a survival situation? Sure. If you're trying to make sitting in the cold wind bearable and it makes you feel a little warmer then great. Little swig of liquor helps fingers and toes warm slightly as it is a vasodilator
I'm really looking for those fingerless glove/mittens. I also have a Stryker XL and can't figure out how you fit all those clothes in there. Lol. (I do carry my tree stand on mine as well so that is a factor I guess.) Thanks again for another great video Clay. I am amazed at how you, Liz & the boys manage to keep putting out content while maintaining your lives. Hard work. I'm very inspired and thankful for it.
Down vests/jackets are nice but wind seems to cut right thru & if you're not familiar with down - You're dead if it wets out and temps drop..... Primaloft synthetic is a great option... And fellas - GET 4 WAY STRETCH features in your pants...!!!!
Thank you for the content! In addition to the updated video on making pemmican, would love to see a video on how your wife makes the dehydrated meals. Thanks, again!
Very timely- figuring this out myself up here in the Panhandle- 100% agree on trekking poles and wool! I'd love a video on methodology for selecting locations to explore. Hard to see far in denser woods and too much snow above treeline.
Thank you Clay! If you want a little more of a solid shooting rest with treking poles, you should look up Wiser Precision Quick Stix system. It locks your poles togeather to rest your gun. They are great!
Awesome!!! Thanks for the suggestion I’ve been wrapping my poles together for shots. Great product I’m so glad I found your suggestion I just ordered this product
🙋🏻♂️ If there is water in your water filter and it freezes it will damage the filter element and allow microbes through. I switch over to chlorine dioxide drops for my winter trips.
Clay! Thanks for all the info. Do you have a video or post that talks about your flintlock rifle? If not, would you ever consider a flintlock for beginners guide?
What do you do to keep clean without having too much smell to alert animals? Like 2 days in and my armpits, beard, and other body parts are already smelling.
Thanks for the video Clay. Looking forward to the next one. As somebody who still trying to figure out what to carry and what to leave when I go outdoors alone or with wife and kids I was wondering how much does all this stuff weights that the two of your carried with and without filming gear.
Question, do your long johns grab the inside of your pants and make it harder to walk? For example (not for your vid but to get the just of my question) i have cheap installated winter pants for dog walking that are lined with polar fleece. The fleece grabs onto my long johns making it harder to walk. Might not matter around the block, however a long hike it does make a hug difference . Thank you for the review
Where do you get all your warm weather gear ? I have looked like at academy sports and Bass pro which is close by me. I hadn't seen any of the products like what you were using in the cold weather
What's the realistic weight for all that? I commonly fall into the trap of listening to others parrot that if I'm over 25lbs for a solid 10 day hunt 50 miles on foot in the backcountry I'm packing too much. Just curious how you keep weight down with what seems to be only necessary items with very little fluff.
Clay - did your wife use a commercially available pattern to make your wool shirt? If yes, would you be able to share the brand and number? I'm planning to make one for my husband but haven’t found a pattern that we like as much as your shirt.
Wardrobe by me on Etsy. Jensen shirt. I normally wear a medium shirt but Liz had to use an XXL pattern, plus she added an extra inch to the arms. I’ve got long arms I guess.
Wow, if jacket, pants, sweater cost 1.000 bucks, how much have you paid for the entire equipment? 😅 Would you please tell, what kind of oven this is, for inside the tent?
Top quality gear ain't cheap. But most folks accumulate it over time. When I first started hunting the mountains I couldn't afford good gear so I just used what I had. I was cold and wet much of the time but had some great experiences.
Same guy, same values, better gear. Wearing jeans on a hunt like this is a bit foolish imo. We’re hunting many miles and hours from the tent and should those jeans get damp hypothermia might soon follow. If you don’t want to know about the gear I’m using, don’t watch gear videos. Easy peasy.

is there a code or link to the bison socks and gloves?
There is someone in your tent! Stay safe out there...
I think it’s Bigfoot in the tent!⛺️ 😅😅
Been sayin shooting stick hiking pokes for years - glad you do it too

Glad to hear you’re finding them good!
Thanks for the detailed view of your gear, Clay.
Clay, I don't see anything on Liz's channel about freeze drying. We are thinking of getting one. Some videos of what she does would be great!!! Stay safe.
We’re still learning. Just want to make sure we know what we’re doing before putting out a video on it.

Isn't alcohol really bad for staying warm or something?
@@oIJustForFunIo yes.
😂.... the only thing whisky is good for is cleaning a wound... 😂
@@oIJustForFunIo yes, it's a depressant. Give you a jolt of spirits

Will do
Great look inside your pack Clay. Thanks.
Nate
You bet
Appreciate you, Clay! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
I appreciate that!
Clay I miss seeing liz. Tell her just come out on your video to say hi 🤗
She'll be at the late season elk camp this year!
So cool you’re using a flintlock rifle! You really got the rugged mountain man vibe. Great video as always!
Thanks for all you do, Clay!!
My pleasure!
Vortex... Only the best, brother!
Greetings and Happy Holiday.🎉
Same to you!
So looking forward to the hunt video.😀
Coming soon!

Looking forward to the hunting video! I hope you got one.
Excellent info, Clay. Thanks.
Ole boy in the back said “it’s fine I’ll break it all down!!!!” 😂 haha
Thanks Clay
THANKS BUT I LIKE THE WOOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Clay! Thanks for all the info. Do you have a video or post that talks about your flintlock rifle? If not, would you ever consider a flintlock for beginners guide?
Check out the muzzleloading playlist
Ameizing clay!
A much needed video
Great video 😊
What do you do to keep clean without having too much smell to alert animals?
Like 2 days in and my armpits, beard, and other body parts are already smelling.
The merino wool base layers help a ton with scent. I don’t really do anything more than that other than pay attention to the wind.
Get rid of the synthetic base layers... They are a bacteria factory.
Thanks for the video Clay. Looking forward to the next one. As somebody who still trying to figure out what to carry and what to leave when I go outdoors alone or with wife and kids I was wondering how much does all this stuff weights that the two of your carried with and without filming gear.
Going in, with camera gear I’d guess our packs were maybe 40lbs each.
@clayhayeshunter That is quite a weight. Thank you. Looking forward to next video.

I haven't noticed anything like that.
Good stuff.
Glad you enjoyed it

Most of my clothes come from First Lite. Therefore a link in the description.
Is the wool flannel material available somewhere, wouldn't mind trying to make a similar shirt.
Liz got it off Etsy I think
Nice!
Nice riffle
What about game bags? I haven't used game bags enough to know if all game bags are created equal or not
Hope your hunt has gone well and safe. ? Have you stopped posting on patreon ?

Interesting video...
I see you have a wrap on the wrist of your flintlock... Is that a repair?
It is, I fell on it years ago and cracked the stock.
Miles to harvest and miles to pack it back. No thank you 😊
How much did your pack weigh walking in before adding any game?
I’m guessing around 40lbs
@clayhayeshunter That ain't light! I'm too much of a wimp for that! 🤣

This is the work you do for money or this is your passion?
Old German proverb-All skill is in vain if a angel pee's down the touch hole of your musket.
I thought this was the guy who hunted in Fleece and jeans? What happened? Looks like an infomercial now

@clayhayeshunter being comfortable out there is on of the biggest fasting success.
Its important to survive hunting time with hunt meat not with ready foods
