Regina gets shit on a lot but after living in both I can say both are pretty good places. Regina feels like a busy small town that happens to look like a big city, where Saskatoon feels like a bigger city but really is still sort of a small town. With all the govt offices in Regina it's economy chugs along and serves a pretty vast region (i.e. the whole province). Saskatoon feels less decentralized, a little more industrial and a lot more entrepreneurial. As to which is "better" well that all depends on what criteria you are using to measure... in terms of urbanism then yeah Saskatoon wins that battle but if you just like a quieter more casual place that is a little more salt of the earth then Regina is more of that.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your input. There are definitely aspects of each city that I enjoy, including some that I didn't mention in the videos. I live in Alberta but I'm a big fan of Saskatchewan and I visit often. So many cool spots outside of the cities as well. Cheers
as someone from alberta who has lived in both cities, I enjoyed them both. Personally I found Regina more of a community vibe while Saskatoon felt a little bit more like a small city that thinks it's a big city. Crime is also more spread out in Saskatoon, whereas Regina is more concentrated in a few areas (north central, north of dewdney, cornwall).
Born in Saskatoon/family is from all over SK. Been going to both cities my whole life, whether to see family or on tour. I’m surprised you didn’t mention the new children’s Hospital. Many of my friends with young kids from Regina make the trip to Saskatoon often for this reason.
With the Regina vs Saskatoon restauraunt scene goes. Saskatoon has more Individual Restauraunts. Regina has more Franchise Restaraunts. That being said our Cathedral district has some cool little holes in the wall, but Stoon definetly has us beat in the Food area! 100 percent agree!
As a long-time Saskatoon resident who spent five years in Regina in the early-mid 10s, Cathedral and the Warehouse District were the only areas in Regina that I actively liked. I'd personally put Cathedral up against Broadway or Riversdale in Saskatoon any day, and Regina's Warehouse District is much more vibrant and in vastly better shape than Saskatoon's, which seems to have really suffered as the city's development focus moved to South Downtown in the last couple of decades.
I've actually spent a lot of time in Regina too, I was assigned there for work in 2012 and it initiated my love of Saskatchewan in general. I do prefer Saskatoon overall though, and I visit at least once a year. Regina has many great features as well, I was just there last summer - some of the best pizza in Canada!
On your recommendation, I drove through the riverdale area of Saskatoon today. I would not call it the coolest neighborhood in Saskatchewan. I honestly would not go back. It seemed super sketchy when I was there today. I did, however, enjoy the rest of the areas. 👍
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - that's a fair point. Riversdale can be rough, especially as you move west. It's still my favorite neighborhood in Saskatoon and it has a ton of great little spots. Glad you enjoyed the rest of the areas. Cheers mate, have a great week!
@@strangenorth taking a walk around the UofS campus these days is actually a bit depressing as an alumnus. It's possible that I'm imagining it, but the grounds don't seem as well-maintained or picturesque today (I last walked it in early summer of this year) as it was when I attended in the mid-90s. I fully admit that could be my own memory playing tricks on me.
I think people want to move to saskatoon because of not only how it sounds when you name it out but also because it's also blessed with tonnes of sass.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - I actually don't know about the trolley system, I'm going to look into that. Cheers mate!
Lived in both for over 20 plus years, they’re pretty comparable . Regina is flat and the water tastes bad, but Saskatoon’s downtown is a mess and the infrastructure is crumbling. Both have pretty decent arts and food scenes. Like I said all in all they’re still more alike than different. Saskatoon is incredible in the summer though, too bad summer is so short.
Saskatoon really shines in the summer, I visit at least once a year - I remember visiting during Canada Day 2017 and while the city was doing their usual firework show there were about 3 other rogue groups setting off surprisingly huge fireworks in the river valley. I was standing on the University Bridge and it was honestly kinda magical, we were just surrounded by fireworks
You missed the two biggest advantage of Saskatoon has over Regina. The water and the airport. The Airport is key, when you live in Saskatchewan in January or February you need to get out for a week or two.
sakstoon was given the choice if they wanted to be the capital of get the u of s. they knew they'd always be better off than regina because of location, so they chose the u of s. unfortunately crime has been way up (but i guess so has regina) personally have nothing againt regina or southern sk but i like the bush and trees further north. plus more lakes, hunting, camping and stronger resources in area
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to leave feedback - I'm a big fan of Saskatoon, I visit often and it's on of my favorite cities in North America. Cheers mate!
Regina got the legislature, Saskatoon got the university, and Prince Albert got the penitentiary. That's a pretty good starting point for understanding the history and culture of the three largest cities in the province.
Great video and insight. It really is a special place. I didn't realize it had grown to just shy of 350K people. Does this figure include the outlying bedroom communities?
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - still can't believe anyone is watching my little videos but I'm glad they're providing some value to people out there. Yes that population figure includes the outlying communities so the city itself is slightly fewer people. I love Saskatoon and I visit often, great city. Cheers mate, have a great week!
@@strangenorth Thanks for the clarification on the stats. If you are ever looking for content ideas (if you haven't already) you should look into car culture in SK - it is huge.
Thanks for watching - in general Regina is a bit colder than Saskatoon (including wind chill in the winter) but the two cities have very comparable climates. Hope that helps, cheers!
I've lived in Regina for just over 10 years and mostly agree with everything you've said. A couple caveats, traffic is so much worse in Saskatoon compared to Regina. Circle drive is awful compared to Ring Road. U of S is in general better (and much larger) than U of R. However, for some specific programs it's the complete opposite (Nursing and Clinical Psych are prime examples). Regina does punch above it's weight a lot when it comes to Restaurants, despite Saskatoon also doing so!
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - and I appreciate your input as someone who lives in Regina. Fair point about the traffic too, I've spent a lot of time in both cities and the traffic in Regina is way smoother. I feel like I'm always at a red light or stop sign in Saskatoon, but I love that city overall. Cheers mate
Only been to Regina a few times, but living in Saskatoon on the west side of the city is a nightmare. Our garage has been broken into a dozen times, our car has had its windows busted parked on the street three times and downtown twice this year so far. They moved the assisted living complex “The Lighthouse” to the west end and out of downtown, just pushed those in the housing crisis to our neck of the woods and out of the public eye downtown, now our neighbourhood has gone to you know where. Trash everywhere, tents and carts of rotting food piled high in the parks, homeless people building makeshift shelters in our alleys and attached to our garages/fences. The public transit is downright awful, buses don’t run Sunday evenings and most mornings/evenings they come once an hour if you’re lucky, so if you miss your bus or they leave the stop early (which is commonplace) you’re SOL for at least an hour, also the transit coverage is awful: there are many places in the city, my workplace included, where the buses simply don’t even get close to, the nearest stop to my work is a solid 30-minute hike in an industrial, no-sidewalk section of town, and it’s a 15 minute drive from my home!
Like I say, I can’t speak for Regina, but if Saskatoon is substantially better, I can’t even imagine… sadly 90% of this video is focused on the river, downtown, and downtown-adjacent area of town, which is like 10%-15% of the total geographical map of Saskatoon
I don't know about living, probably Saskatoon is better, but im so grateful I attended university in Regina. My degree profoundly changed my life, probably in a way that a U of S degree couldn't have.
Thanks for sharing - I've actually heard great things about that university, great campus too. There are definitely things I enjoy about each city and I love Saskatchewan in general. Cheers mate
Which one would you say is a better nightlife/live music scene? I'd really like to tour Canada, and street perform along the way. How are the busking laws in both towns?
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - good question, and I'd definitely say Saskatoon. I don't know about the specific busking laws in those cities. Saskatoon just has the far better arts/creativity scene in general though. One of my favorite memories from Saskatoon was from July 1, 2017 - it was Canada's 150th anniversary celebrations and there was a busker downtown playing an alto saxophone very well. The sounds of his playing just added a wonderful quality to the vibe of the area. I prefer Saskatoon over Regina in general and I think most people would agree. All the best with your travels to Canada, cheers mate!
Thanks for watching - in my opinion Saskatoon is significantly more vibrant and busy and Regina can be a little quiet. I appreciate aspects of each city though. Cheers
Saskatoon has better downtown but the road more complex than regina road so idk which is better city? Its hard to tell especially perosn who born in city and grew up south korea seoul...:) but i love regina thats why i live here.
Thanks for watching - and that's a fair point, I actually find Regina a lot more easy to drive in around in than Saskatoon. There are many things I enjoy about Regina, it's a solid city! Cheers mate
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - Regina has a pretty robust job market and it's growing pretty quickly, you should be able to find a job relatively quickly. Of course it all depends on what field you are looking to get into. Cheers mate!
there are immigration services to help with job placement. there are government programs to help with finding work as well. Saskjobs is on 1955 Broad Street to help with career opportunities, career path guidance, resume help etc. they are also double as the ministry of immigration and career training, as well as credential recognition if you have something such as trade skills that just need to be recognized and legitimize those credentials if they were obtained outside of Canada . there is also a place at 2020 halifax street, known as the Regina Work prep center. lastly there is "immigration, employment and career development" at 2103 11th ave Suite #1000. hope that gives you some assistance. be sure to have a work visa
Where did you get that Population number for Saskatoon? The current estimate published by the city of Saskatoon in November of 2023 is only ~290,000 . Meaning at the time of this video coming out, According to your numbers, Saskatoon grew by 57,000 people in just around 3 months... seems a bit off
Also, great video, I've also lived in both cities and I like comparing my views on the 2 cities with yours, seams like we have more disagreements than agreements lmao
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - actually that was the metro population that includes the surrounding areas, thought I specified that. Cheers mate, have a great week!
did you forget about the 2 million migrants that landed in Canada VERY recently? it very much IS plausible. April of 2022 Canada broke 39 million for a population. as of today we are in excess of 41 million. Do the math.
GOOD LORD!!! Unless you dig being stabbed or possibly killed, DO NOT go to the Riversdale area. Specifically 20th St. 20th and 33rd is where most of the poors and criminals hangout. There's a HEAVY HOMELESS presence on 20th. These two areas are among the MOST VIOLENT seeing more than it's fair share of violent crime, drugs, homelessness and MURDERS. I've lived here my WHOLE life, so trust me. It's a great city. A helluva lot better than Regina. Just avoid most of the WEST SIDE and you'll be fine. 👌🏻
Fair points, those areas can definitely be rough. I personally find west of Riversdale to be the sketchiest area. I love Saskatoon overall though, every city has rough areas. I live in Edmonton, I should know lol. Cheers mate
Wait... Why in the hell is youtube recommending this. I don't search up any thing on Saskatchewan or anything like that. But, when my phone is off, I sometimes talk about my home Providence and how I live in Canada. What. The. Hell.
Wow, honestly surprised by these positive comments. Never heard anyone say they liked this city. it can be beautiful, but the people are some of rudest people of any city I've been in and rated in the top 5 most dangerous cities in Canada. Our violent crime is higher than Toronto and Vancouver combined lol.

as someone from Regina, you aren't wrong. too much organized crime in this city, makes people want to drink. we also have almost 30% more dispensaries than toon town, even though Saskatoon has a higher population. worst part is Regina has one of the highest police force budgets in Canada/per capita. Vancouver, Quebec, Toronto, and Montreal are the only cities with a higher budget per capita. its disgraceful.
Regina suffers from Government town issues. Vibe - Its the same in every Goverment city. Ironically I think the UofS is part of the vibe as well, but more because the UofR (and other schools) get mostly local or south east city people and people stay in those groups. The UofS collects from all over (including rural) and those people are forced to make friends regardless to where they are from. It creates a friendly vibe vs government. River vs Wascana, I'd call it a draw. Personally I'd take Wascana. Downtowns, yea it's tough when it can't compare in size. But I think in value Regina uses theirs way better. But every other argument is an equal playing ground, I'm mean common, Saskatoon is not safer or cleaner and stats would support that. Walkability, I disagree completely. I walk everywhere and everything is accessible within min in Regina. I can't speak the same for Saskatoon. I waste way more time driving to where I want or need to go, once I get there I can walk I guess. It's a bigger city, its almost unfair much like the downtown argument. Food, %100 better in Saskatoon. I blame that government vibe for ruining Regina. But really I don't know why but it's not even a comparison. Regina gets more excited to have Chile's open rather than a local cool place. It's sad.
You are all hung up on cities. the real future of Saskatchewan is in smaller communities. Places like Weyburn, Assinaboya and other communities like this are where the real quality living is hiding
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - smaller communities definitely have their advantages! I've actually worked all over rural Saskatchewan and I really enjoyed a lot of the smaller towns. Cheers!
Agreed. My bro bought a house at Radville, 30 minutes SW of Weyburn. I really like both communities. I myself live in a village SE of Regina where houses sell for $5k 😂😂😂. I’m laughing all the way to the bank; that’s what I spent for four months rent in Toon Town.

Located on a river or large body of water, is shared between all North American capital city except ? Regina (city that rhymes with fun per Mick Jaggar!) and ....Phoenix,AZ.
I was raised regina spent my college years in stoon (6 years) and now I live in BC. Saskatoon sucks the people there are so entitled and negative. It’s just a negative city to live in.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback! I love the Cathedral neighborhood so much, and I love how Regina still has Robins Donuts too
As a long-time Saskatoon resident who spent five years in Regina in the early-mid 10s, Cathedral and the Warehouse District were the only areas in Regina that I actively liked.
From Toronto here, I feel like I wanna visit Saskatoon! ❤
Thanks for watching, Saskatoon doesn't get a lot of press but it's really a great little city. I live in Alberta but I visit frequently. Cheers!
Again, so interesting! As a former Saskatchewanian from Regina, I've always found Saskatoon boring. I like your take and will have to explore more.
@@strangenorth 100% the best pizza in Canada!
@@strangenorth you as well.
Good advice about checking out university campuses. Saskatoons looks nice. Love Edmontons. I"ll check out Saskatoon one day!
U of S campus is beautiful, cool buildings and well-maintained grounds. Borders the river too, prime real estate in general
Downtown regina feels kind of sad
Definitely not as vibrant as downtown Saskatoon, but I do like grabbing a bite or beer at Copper Kettle. Cheers mate, have a great weekend!
I think people want to move to saskatoon because of not only how it sounds when you name it out but also because it's also blessed with tonnes of sass.
I visit Toon Town frequently and it definitely has a surplus of sass!
We need the trolly system operating again that would be cool.
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - I actually don't know about the trolley system, I'm going to look into that. Cheers mate!
Only one we had was on Broadway I believe
Thanks for watching - those are great advantages of the city!
The cool part about saskatoon is they have a drag racing strip close by and lots of mx tracks everywhere I Definitely want to move to saskatoon asap
Thanks for watching - great point, I haven't been there myself but I've heard about it. Cheers
sakstoon was given the choice if they wanted to be the capital of get the u of s. they knew they'd always be better off than regina because of location, so they chose the u of s. unfortunately crime has been way up (but i guess so has regina) personally have nothing againt regina or southern sk but i like the bush and trees further north. plus more lakes, hunting, camping and stronger resources in area
Absolutely love Saskatoon. Although I probably couldn't live there, I do visit 1-3 times a year as a perfect weekend road trip.
Me too, it's such a great little city and I dont understand why people in Alberta don't visit more!
Want to live in this city even though i live here already
It's a great city! cheers
Regina or Saskatoon intense wind-chill colder in the winter?
Cheers mate
Regina is nice if you want your truck broken into, otherwise I'd prefer Saskatoon
interessant votre vidéo merci.
I appreciate it, thanks for watching! Cheers
How do you assess comments about Regina being a dead or boring place even compared to Saskatoon?
Thanks for watching - in my opinion Saskatoon is significantly more vibrant and busy and Regina can be a little quiet. I appreciate aspects of each city though. Cheers
I’ve lived in both cities. I found Regina windy, cold and ugly; I hated it. Saskatoon is a beautiful city and I would fully recommend it.
I definitely prefer Saskatoon - I was just there actually, great city!
Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, one great city!
I'm a big fan, been there twice this year already!
Cheers mate
Is it hard to find a part time job in regina as a newcomer (international student)
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - Regina has a pretty robust job market and it's growing pretty quickly, you should be able to find a job relatively quickly. Of course it all depends on what field you are looking to get into. Cheers mate!
@@strangenorth thank you sir🥰
there are immigration services to help with job placement. there are government programs to help with finding work as well.
That's fair, I give a lot of opinions and then put them on TH-cam so many people are bound to disagree!
did you forget about the 2 million migrants that landed in Canada VERY recently? it very much IS plausible. April of 2022 Canada broke 39 million for a population. as of today we are in excess of 41 million. Do the math.
What are those flags in your thumbnail?
Thanks for watching - those are the city flags for Saskatoon and Regina
Saskatoon > Regina
Reason: Saskatoon is safer and is aesthetically more pleasing. Being in Regina feels gross and depressing compared.
Thanks for watching - I tend to agree, although there are definitely aspects of Regina that I enjoy. Cheers
both city's suck actually, one just looks nicer and wont shut up about how much better is.
I love how you threw an apostrophe in "city's", cheers!
Shout out Babas perogies. Lol
l love that place, although I always eat inside and I haven't done the drive-thru yet. Cheers
Cheers mate
Intersting video though too hipster for my old man-ness. Lol. Cheers
Yeah fair, I've got some hipster in me!
Wait... Why in the hell is youtube recommending this. I don't search up any thing on Saskatchewan or anything like that. But, when my phone is off, I sometimes talk about my home Providence and how I live in Canada. What. The. Hell.
Big brother is always listening - and thanks for watching!
@@strangenorth Well, least I get to make someone happy because someone has been listening to things they should not be.

Food in Regina is not great. We moved here from Calgary, and it made me a better cook.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your feedback - what are your thoughts on Regina style pizza?
Love Saskatoon!
I was there last week, great city!
I live in Saskatoon and I think it is clearly better than Regina, that said, Regina has the better brewery scene. Probably out of necessity 😂
Hey thanks for watching and I appreciate when people take the time to comment - I definitely prefer Saskatoon, but I enjoy a lot about Regina. haha didn't know about their superior brewery scene but I love that Regina style pizza! Cheers mate, have a great week!
as someone from Regina, you aren't wrong. too much organized crime in this city, makes people want to drink. we also have almost 30% more dispensaries than toon town, even though Saskatoon has a higher population. worst part is Regina has one of the highest police force budgets in Canada/per capita. Vancouver, Quebec, Toronto, and Montreal are the only cities with a higher budget per capita. its disgraceful.
Pov: your watching this from Newfoundland
Thanks for watching!
You’re looking good Regina! (If you’re blind).
I enjoy many things about Regina - especially that pizza! But I prefer Saskatoon overall
at least with Regina, we can spell it with a "v", and make it more attractive... like Vaskatoon doesn't work.
Sold at drive through Ukrainian food !
Baba's food is fantastic, everything made in-house. I eat there every time I'm in Saskatoon!
I dont have to watch the video, I live in regina and have been to saskatoon, saskatoon is better, regina sucks.
It's sad.
Everyone's got an opinion, thanks for watching!
@@jansilverthorn777 I live in Ceylon just over the hill from Radville. I bought three houses here from the town twenty years ago for $50.00 each. I fixed them up and sold two of them right when the oil boom came along. I live in the third one.
