Because of this video, I just spent 10 days of travelling, camping, and hiking in SW Saskatchewan. I saw most of the places in the video. Thanks for this!
I'm from Washington State where I will be bicycling home from Flin Flon, MB across Saskatchewan which will be my 4th time. I love the wide open spaces, wind, sweet residents, grid road system and campgrounds in even the smallest towns. I've been to all most all you mention. Looking forward to riding through the boreal forest of the north country in Saskatchewan this summer on paved all weather roads equipped with shouldering for safety.
That's awesome! I hope you have/had a great time. You have certainly seen more of Saskatchewan than I have, and I have lived here my entire life (I'm in my 60s now).
Howdy Jim Le Galley here, Great bike holiday especially on the Hansen Lk. Rd. SK 106. The Cree 1st nation's folks were awesome. They stopped to visit, take pictures, give water. Some wanted to give e me their their lunch and even money. Super people and totally unexpected. Had to end in cranbrook, bc due to heavy smoke from nearby st. Marie's fire. I'm 65 finishing my 50th year of bicycle touring.
And that's just one small part. There is something to see in every section of the province. I prefer north due to trees and fishing but even at that you don't have to go into the very deep north for that. Fishing is all through the province but the mass of forest isn't.
Saskatchewan is a beautiful Providence in Canada, My mother and her elders were all born & raised on the Piapot Reserve outside of Regina SK, ever since when my great great uncle Chief Payepot (Piapot) signed the Peace Treaty #4 back in 1875 and I remember back in 1975 my grandfather used to ride me in his old Ford pick-up truck and when they have their Pow-Wows, he would sometimes take me on a tour of the park regions of Saskatchewan (Cypress Hill NP, Prince Albert NP, Grasslands NP, and Banff NP,) in that old Ford truck. And thank you for sharing this video, it brings back fond memories👍🏽
Hi from Meadow Lake, Sask. I encourage all people to go to Pow-wows learn about the culture and history of the 1st peoples. Many different 1st people each with their own knowledge and wisdom. Mostly Cree up here.
Saskatchewan is the hidden gem of Canada. I crossed our country from Vancouver Island to Montreal, an although the rockies are obviously beautiful, Saskatchewan have some kind of magic. The endless horizons are of such beauty. Thanks for sharing these treasures!
@@ryanduncan8470 No, I was twice in Saskatchewan, but only for a few days, on the road. I'd like to come back for at least a few weeks. I'll check this out for sure on google maps. One place that still haunts me is Kandahar, on the 16. It was like a mirage, the water and the horizon were hard to differenciate and it was a windy day. The waves in the fields and thoses on the water were just beautiful. All I would have had is a chair and something to drink and I could have spent many days there, just enjoying the view.
We are thinking of retiring to Saskatoon as living in Vancouver is impossible. We have hiked in the Alberta badlands and we loved it. I’m doing my research!
Living in Vancouver's easy, as long as you're a multi-millionaire who doesn't mind a few meth-heads parked on your front door. I escaped four years ago.
Thanks for producing this video! Your photography is really stunning. We visited Cypress Hills and the Qu'Appelle valley two years ago and loved it. Looks like we missed a lot though, and need to plan a return trip!
I live in NW Alberta. Been through Saskatchewan on my bike but never got to stop and smell the roses. I’m going to be saving this video. Well done sir.
I'm moving to Yorktown area in the next 2 months. BC is no longer good to live or try to work, I'm so excited to get there. Enjoy your channel and lots of information for new people.
I used to travel for a Wholesale food Company outta Speedy Creek and my territory was from Leader in the North, Chaplin in the east, the US Border to the south and the Alberta border to the west. Throughout my years traveling that territory I had the greatest of all pleasures of visiting almost all the areas in your Video and had the privilage of living in both Willow Bunch and Swift Current. The southwest is by far the greatest natural history area in the whole province and I have traveled this province from La Ronge to the US border and from Manitoba to Alberta borders. But in Saskatchewan if you are willing to travel and go off the beaten path you will likely find a small chunk of anywhere else in Canada or very close to it except the High Mountains (Rockies) and an ocean beach. Saskatchewan is a HECK of a place to call HOME.
cypress hill is my fave place to go camping because the fact that less mosquito, tons of activity , i just like the place , clean washroom, their trails is nice. highly recommended for those who like to drive a bit longer depending where you came from.
I just love videos about Canada. We are so fortunate to live in this country. We are blessed in the sense that we have everything, from rain forests to deserts, grassland, mountains and lakes, but mostly the friendliness of our people. Love you Canada.
Do you have a favorite place there? I'm looking forward to visiting Banff and Jasper, and if they live up to what I've seen, they will be my favorite places in Canada.
I was born and raised in Saskatoon and I had no idea there were so many badlands areas and dunes. Wonderful stuff! I now live in Florida, so this was fun to learn more about my home province from so far away.
. I for several years trucked to most of the uranium mines. When Uranium City was still happening. For six weeks or a little more every winter the Ice road was opened. Maybe twenty miles before arriving at the south shore of lake Athabasca. One enters the desert. It's huge sand dunes all the way to the lake. Almost straight up and down. Nothing but big sand dunes. Almost zero vegetation
Been to Florida, it's actually pretty nice. Going down the Florida back highways and through all the small back towns is super cool. The humidity in summer is unreal tho, but the cool lizards everywhere help make up for it haha.

I visited the Badlands in 1973. My Mom was born in Rockglen so we toured around some of the sites. Your video was a great way to revisit the area. Thank you.
we did the Red Coat Trail both ways about 4 years ago, we came in from Alberta on road 502 I think , past Consul to Eastend , stopped at the Dinosaur museum ,to Shaunavon, then Hwy 13 to Cadilac then Val Marie and Grasslands Park. then to where Sitting Bull wintered then North via Weyburn ended up at Creelman for a night then Regina to start our northern loop. Now that our daughter is tranferred to Moose Jaw we will be back to see more of southern Sask. I really enjoy the southern Prairies. Being that we live in the Kootenays of BC, in mountains all the time is is nice to be in the big sky country. So many small towns and places to camp with no crowds from Alberta. We will be back a few times this summer for sure.
Saskatchewan is so subtly gorgeous and scenic .. the skies make so many photographs spectacular. All that prairie beauty is just the bottom part of the province.. The biggest part of Saskatchewan is the wilderness of lakes and boreal forest
Fantastic compilation of just a fraction of beautiful Saskatchewan..great job ! Thank you for extra info on travelling in this area :) I have visited on several occasions and yet so much to see. Thank you for this helpful guide. I just love badlands but have not yet checked them in that province. Hi Chris. Nineteen years ago we bicycled with our 10 & 12 year old sons from Penticton, BC to Newfoundland. Now we are empty nesters and tonight I've started planning for our spring of 2025 road trip rediscovering Saskatchewan. Your video inspired my husband, and now I'm hooked too. Thank you so much, Chris, for creating this amazing collection of southern adventures. P.S. You are one heck of a talented photographer!! Cheers, Cynthia
That was some video! I had no idea, but all I've ever seen was from the Trans Canada Hwy., and it was a long time ago. Great skies, I remember. Saskatchewan is clearly a helluva lot more than just wheat and Burton Cummings.
I drove through Saskatchewan in September, and thought it was absolutely beautiful. I have a plan to spend every October in Saskatchewan, every year, after I am retired; living in my RV, and exploring. I am also a bird hunter. Could you make a documentary about birding around Saskatchewan.
This was a nice little walk through my childhood, I lived on a little farm at the bottom of the Swift current cut banks back in 1980, we used to go to the Shaunavon Rodeo every year. we passed our time hanging out with the Hudderites (Hey Curly!) and campfires on lake Diefenbaker.
Thanks for a quite wonderful video tour of Saskatchewan. I had no idea that it had such interesting topography and towns. I would love to visit any number of the places you showed us. The province should hire you as their tourism promoter!
Valley of 1000 devils is one of my favourite spots here. I love hiking out for one night of camping. When it's not a full moon that night sky is amazing.
That was a great video, when I was a child I went to school in Admiral. My Grandparents always had a park pass for Cypress Hills and lived South of Robsart which was just East of Consul, and I was born in Eastend. Great job!
I was at Cypress Hills Provincial Park as a young child with my parents. Fort Walsh wasn't developed as it now is. This was back in the early 1960's. I can remember being amazed at the Spruce & Pine Trees growing there & how high the elevation was compared to Pense, Sk., on the Regina Plains.
I’m from frontier originally, live closer to Moose Jaw now. I’ll always love the southwest, how fortunate I am to have spent so much time in such a beautiful place.

The Badlands are definitely on my list of places to visit, possibly next summer. I want to see all these places. I had no idea there was a T-Rex museum in Saskatchewan.
Very well done video Chris. Lived on Saskatchewan for 15 years and thought I had found all the Gems but thanks to your video, I have more to explore. Sand dunes blew my mind and I had never heard of them in that location, which is an area I had hunted and fished in.
About as many Saskatchewanians know about Cypress Hills as Albertans. Ive only been to the Alberta side of CHIP and really wanna go back and explore more.
Excellent video! Went to grasslands park last year.Coming from west coast it was such an enjoyable contrast.I highly recommend visiting. The people there are as welcoming as is the scenery.
Thank you for the video. It makes me homesick especially for some of the less tangible things such as watching storms roll in from many kilometres away. If you ever revise this video I'd suggest adding a few things. 1) You mention that snakes are not found in certain areas. You should specify rattlesnakes as there are other species of snakes in those areas. 2) Add more about First Nations background as you can find tipi rings in many of the areas you've shown. There is something special about realizing that you are standing in a tipi ring where people camped likely pre-contact. 3) Eastend is also where Pulitzer Prize winner, Wallace Stegner lived as a child and is the area he writes about in his novel Wolf Willow. 4) You mention, almost in passing, about how you can be alone in this area but that is worth its own bullet. Even in summer you can drive some roads and maybe not pass another car for an hour. Outside of the summer season, it can be much longer. While this means people should be more prepared, more importantly it is as much a part of the attraction to SW SK as the storms, skies and stars. It also true while hiking and is really amazing for people who like to hike solo. 5) Perspective. Most people visiting SW are amazed by the vistas and the broad scope of the land. Yet in reality, many of those places are not actually that distant. The lack of trees in many areas removes any sense of perspective. 6) You show some of the great empty houses and other buildings on the ghost town roads but was surprised there was no images from Robsart which actually is a town. Not very big anymore with only a few streets but you can actually drive past abandoned houses and stores. There are still a few residents but the vast majority of the buildings are now abandoned. While these might make good additions to your video, you have still created an excellent video that I will now be showing to many other people.
Thank you very much for the videos i my self just moved to Fairlight S.K and love being out of the big city of Ottawa. So many cool places to visit now lol
Vancouver has 'one' dark sky preserve location, so envious you have SO much more there! Would love to spend days exploring all of them, first tho! The wonderful natural beauty. 😍
Have you ever heard of the Athabasca Sand Dunes. Its in Northern saskatchewan and is such a nice place to visit. My hometown is Uranium City sk and we boat over to the sand dunes during the summer
Great video for many years I have wanted to travel this area seeing it will be done next Spring , I just have to plan my trip well as my car is an EV :) I will be going through you list of videos . Thank you.
I was born and raised in nova scotia but i've lived in Saskatchewan for 20 years now. I came here to be a ranchand, But for the last fourteen years have been driving truck all over the province. Thank you! Hope you have a great trip!!
I miss it there, been living in exile in the US for a few years now. Every day I miss it.
The Badlands are definitely on my list of places to visit, possibly next summer. I want to see all these places. I had no idea there was a T-Rex museum in Saskatchewan.
Alberta boy born and raised, i think its time to explore Sask soon!
Oct is the best month. Mosquitoes are dead and hopefully no snow.
Nice video
Omg, I want to go back there. Looks beautiful
Thank yoy for this video. Very lovely
Yes it is amazing! Thank you!
Very well done video Chris. Lived on Saskatchewan for 15 years and thought I had found all the Gems but thanks to your video, I have more to explore. Sand dunes blew my mind and I had never heard of them in that location, which is an area I had hunted and fished in.
Glad you enjoyed it thank you!
About as many Saskatchewanians know about Cypress Hills as Albertans. Ive only been to the Alberta side of CHIP and really wanna go back and explore more.
It's a wonderful place!
I have been to several of these places. I would love to see more of Sask. Cheers
The best part is, almost no people!
LOVE THE DEAD SEAS OF CANADA, SASKATCHEWAN. (watrous)
Excellent video! Went to grasslands park last year.Coming from west coast it was such an enjoyable contrast.I highly recommend visiting. The people there are as welcoming as is the scenery.
Totally agree!
Beautyful photography and videography as a photographer my self looking for inspiration for visiting places you have definitely inspired me
Wow thank you! You will enjoy it, hope you have a great trip if you go!
Great video chris, visiting there next week, looking forward to it
Have a fun trip!
Thanks for the feedback!
It is an interesting part of the province...
Where is it that one can see the Rocky mountains?
The western Albert province, lbelieve.
Western Alberta and British Columbia
Thank you very much for the videos i my self just moved to Fairlight S.K and love being out of the big city of Ottawa. So many cool places to visit now lol
Hope you get to visit these spots!
Great video showcasing beautiful SW Sk.
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow ive knew some of these existed but never had the opportunity to actually go to them. Thanks for sharing, im hoping i can go to a few this year.
I hope you do!
Vancouver has 'one' dark sky preserve location, so envious you have SO much more there! Would love to spend days exploring all of them, first tho! The wonderful natural beauty. 😍
If you like dark skies, you will LOVE SW Saskatchewan
B.C. would be so much cooler if there was less people. It's far to busy to really enjoy I found.
Driving through Saskatchewan I actually really liked it and I almost went back to it to live
Wow! what a great watch! Thanks Chris!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Amazing video! Perfectly done.
Thank you very much!
Have you ever heard of the Athabasca Sand Dunes. Its in Northern saskatchewan and is such a nice place to visit. My hometown is Uranium City sk and we boat over to the sand dunes during the summer
I wish I could get up there. Plane or boat to get there.
Been there several times. Flying floats out of La Ronge.

I came here to be a ranchand, But for the last fourteen years have been driving truck all over the province.
I get to see a lot of beauty at night and in the morning, Just wish
I had more time to stop and visit some of these places
Hope you get a chance to stop in some of these!
Great job Chris. Although I was born and raised in Climax, there are many of these l that I haven’t seen but the Sandhills are amazing and Jones Peak is almost a spiritual experience!
Thank you!
I would absolutely love to visit Saskatchewan one day. Especially grasslands NP.
NO crowds!
I am amazed...looks like parts of Utah and Nebraska and the badlands in South Dakota.
❤❤. I thought SK is dull
It's not :)
