Canadian travel/tour guide content, crime stories, disappearances as well as videos dealing with a variety of topics that fall under the umbrella of strange/paranormal/spiritual/mystical/folklore etc.
Many of these topics incorporate interesting aspects of Canadian history, another topic I love.
I aim to effectively be fair and balanced when discussing these more mysterious topics - they are often fraught with embellishment and BS.
I am definitely very new to video production/TH-cam in general but I am striving to (slowly probably) improve over time.
I greatly appreciate everyone engaging with my channel, thank you to each and every one of you who gave one of my videos a shot - I know your time is valuable!
Peace

The Sketchy Areas of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
In this video I cover some of the areas of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan that have a reputation as being a bit more rough than other areas of the city.
I absolutely love Saskatoon, I visit often and I highly recommend it. Every city has areas that are a bit sketchy compared to other areas, and Saskatoon is no exception. I wanted to highlight some of those areas for people that are new to the city or plan on visiting in the future.
I hope you found this one interesting and informative.

Ahhh old stabs place haven’t been down there in a while.
come to regina!
pretty accurate.
One of my crew members got jumped after work and robbed leaving his hotel
Thanks for watching - damn that's wild, was that fairly recently? I've definitely heard some stories. Cheers
im from stoon! sutherland is pretty chill now!
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your feedback - I've definitely heard mixed things, some say central ave can be dodgy and others say the neighborhood has improved a lot over the years. I haven't walked around that area myself just driven through along central. Did it used to be a lot worse around there? Cheers
Sketchy areas of Regina
Thanks for watching - that's a good idea, besides the north central area what other areas of Regina would you say are a bit sketchy? I've been in some areas in the east side that were a little dodgy at times. Cheers
Pretty fair assessment of the city. I got jumped this past summer by three youths (one was taller and about 100 pounds heavier than me - but still a youth) on the University bridge. But I have walked up and down that bridge probably several hundred times over the years and that was the first time I ever had trouble there. I think they were just out to prove how tough they were and I just happened to be the guy that crossed their path.
Thanks for watching - damn that sucks, punk move to swarm you like that. Did you get roughed up pretty bad? I've definitely been around some rough individuals in Saskatoon! All the best
Pretty accurate
Thanks for watching, I thought it was a decent overview. Cheers
I concur. I have lived in Saskatoon 15 years. Lived and used to walk downtown all the time and never had an issue. At night alone too. Literally no issue as long as you don't loiter outside and you know where you're going.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your feedback - I personally don't find the downtown area to be worse than other cities in Canada, very walkable and well connected to other areas of the city. Cheers
Saskatoon is literally the worst, and most boring of the 'major' cities in all of Canada. "Lets go visit Saskatoon and enjoy a holiday", said no tourist, ever.
Come on now, they have Arby's
Of course everyone's experience will vary, but having rented in Riversdale for a couple of years, I never had any trouble. I think the crime stats are skewed by the fact that most of the violent crime occurs in certain demographically distinct communities; gangs on gangs skew the stats, and they tend to live in the more affordable parts of town. It's very rare to hear someone just be attacked out of the blue, without prior involvement with whomever attacked them. Contrast that with the sort of random attacks I know of in Vancouver (e.g. people being bear sprayed off their bikes, and one former colleague being dragged into the street by her hair as she left the office), and Saskatoon really isn't bad at all.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your feedback - fair points, I forgot to say in the video that I've actually stayed at various Airbnbs throughout Riversdale over the years and I've had good experiences. You can get a great deal and the neighborhood not only has a lot to do locally but it's well connected to other major areas of the city. Cheers
Evergreen has been big for high end drug busts.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your feedback - I didn't know that, but a similar thing in Edmonton happens where major drug busts actually happen in the relatively quiet suburbs. Cheers
@strangenorth a friend of mine, actually used to live next door to the former police chief, and he learned from the chief that drug dealers like to use the suburb neighborhoods, usually on the outside of the city for their operations. Further away to avoid suspicion and closer exit to the highways
it was much rougher in the 70s
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your feedback - which area of the city would you say was the most dangerous back then? Cheers
Just spent two years in Saskatoon. Lived downtown, the Cambridge, and walked only to all four regions. No transportation other than bus. Great city. Never worried.
Thanks for watching - honestly I think if I moved to Saskatoon I'd live downtown too, I find it to be very walkable and well connected to other major areas of the city. It would be cool if Saskatoon could develop some sort of LRT one day! Cheers
Missed the lighthouse area on 20th by the theatre. Also 8th street near Cumberland. The hotel keeps a lot interesting characters with substance abuse issues.
Yes, that is true, 8th near Cumberland is a little rough as are some of those apartments on 7th. They used to be nice back in the 80s but not so today.
Ah yes, good old copper mug 🍺.
@@jsilbern8973 It was good when it was the Venice House but it gradually worsened after it changed to a bar.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your feedback - I can definitely see sections of 8th having sketchy activity, it's a major corridor on the east side. That area always felt more calm and peaceful than the west side to me, but as I said I don't live there so I'm approaching the topic as a tourist (although I visit Saskatoon frequently and travel around the city a fair amount). Cheers
My parents house was built in 1898 and was originally the first hospital
Thanks for watching - that's pretty cool, it would be neat to live in a historical building like that. Is it still standing? Cheers
This is mostly true. However, Sutherland is not sketchy. I have lived both in Sutherland and Nutana and Nutana is much more sketchy than Sutherland. I saw lots of fights in the streets just off Broadway and off 8th Street. My place was broken into 3 times when I lived in Nutana. There is a lot of crime there. That has not been the case since I moved to Sutherland. It is a nice quiet place with lots of families. In fact, when sketchy people are hanging around, the neighbours tend to talk to each other and make sure that everything is ok. Most of my neighbours are professional people, retired people or technicians who work at the University. Perhaps people who told you that the area is sketchy haven't been there in years and remember the days when the Sutherland bar was still open. That place was rough. Also, it used to be a railway town before it joined the city. Maybe that is where some of the old stereotype comes from.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate your feedback about Sutherland - I mainly heard that the neighborhood is decent but there have been problems along Central ave. I also heard it used to be worse but it's gotten a lot better. I actually haven't walked around that area myself, just driven through along Central. I can imagine Nutana area could have a lot of general crime, but to me it's always felt noticeable more calm and peaceful than the west side (although I do spend most of my time west of the river). Cheers
Riversdale is cool but yeah it's sort of surrounded by iffy areas, wouldn't walk there alone at night...
Yeah it can be shady at night, but I'm from Edmonton so that's nothing new. I've actually stayed at Airbnb spots throughout Riversdale and I think it's one of the best places to stay in the city - lots to do in the eastern portion of the neighborhood and it's a great location to start exploring the city from. Cheers
I've been there a number of times but only with particular business destinations to go to. Never really had time to look around. Thanks for the insight!
Thanks for watching - Saskatoon is a great city to explore! Lots of great places to check out around downtown, Broadway/Nutana, Riversdale, City Park and 33 street. Cheers
Thanks for watching - I think this is a pretty good overview of some of the areas of Saskatoon that can be a bit rough, but I'd appreciate your thoughts and experiences as well. Cheers
Well what you show is definetly not a Cropcircle. Its just a ring on the ground. Not Cropcircle related.
Thanks for watching - fair point, I thought the same thing too. It's not an actual crop circle, but overall it's still considered the first "crop circle" incident in Canada because it was essentially a series of circular marks found on a farmers field. Cheers
Schizophrenia
Two minutes in and you got some disinformation going on. William Pangman aka Chilli was not a founder. When warriors came to be in early 90’s , Chilli was probably about 16 and didn’t become president until 1997. 🎉Brian Contois and the Chartands and a couple others mostly from Long plains reserve started M.W in the early 90’s . One other thing, Native syndicate started in 94 in Stony and spread to Saskatchewan. Mostly everything else was close enough. Miigwetch
i love videos like this-however, the graffiti on the walls had me howling, i'm sorry. i'd like to visit this place sometime though!
Thanks for watching - yeah the graffiti in these places is pretty wild eh! Cheers
They kill bison and work at a prison, the end. Also better be related to the Allanites or it’s going to be rough sledding.
Thanks for watching - what's up with the Allanites? Cheers
Coming from western Canada it's very hard for me to take a Toronto gang seriously if at all.... Honestly it's kind of a joke
Little Chicago? No it’s called jig town or Legoland due to the multicolour horses.
Isnt the Kang gang just BIBO
Grew up around there tks for sharing!🇨🇦❤️👍
Thanks for watching, it was interesting exploring this area a bit! Cheers
I live in Regina and can confirm that Stoon is better. More businesses, river, hills. Regina is flat and boring.
Thanks for watching - I agree overall, although I also did a video on ways in which I think Regina is better than Saskatoon. Actually lately I've been thinking about that Regina pizza from Houston! Cheers
The city of lost hopes and dreams where meth and gangs took over and the Mayor is useless as a tick
The Sask Hospital is also a worthwhile place to check out. I remember we had a somewhat school lockdown when Sandy Charles had busted out.
Thanks for watching - that Sandy Charles case was pretty wild haven't heard that name in ages, maybe worth a video down the road. Cheers
Some of these gang members are care givers too, they feed the homeless and give you their shirt off your back iv witness that. Some i grew up with and understood how their lives took a turn.
Thanks for watching - fair point, not everyone involved in gang life is a bad person and it's a pretty complicated issue. Cheers
The most affordable big city in Canada!
Thanks for watching - great point! I mentioned that when I was comparing Edmonton and Calgary in another video. Cheers mate
“Relatively positive graffiti” 😆
actually more like the Sistine Chapel compared to the "wall art" in most abandoned buildings
Insurance and paper work for video? But photos are ok? Lol what a joke.
I actually just pulled those pictures from their website, and yeah that was irritating. Said I wanted to take some video quickly for a little TH-cam video and they were treating it like a major production. It was absolutely dead there too, you'd think they wouldn't mind the free advertising lol.
Yes! Beautiful City.
Thanks for watching - yeah it was pretty interesting exploring this area! Cheers
My family and I went there a long time ago. I was young but I remember climbing some of the trees for some photographs. Thank you for covering us here in Saskatchewan, it's great that more people are getting to see these mysterious trees!
Thanks for watching - can't believe how many views this little video got! Pretty cool spot eh? I'm glad I finally made it up there. Cheers mate
Lethbridge also has watertoon nearby
Thanks for watching - great point, that area is awesome! Cheers
I have visited the lights over a dozen times. Conducted experiements, recorded data, took photos, Walked the tracks. Used RM maps. Sorry to say it is 100% car headlights and rear tail lights. And cars were prevelant before the train lights in this area
Thanks for watching - one thing I find interesting is that people talk about different experiences when they're out there. What really intrigues me is when people talk about a light that approaches them then appears behind them. The light I saw (although the video quality is terrible) certainly wasn't that dramatic and I could see how that could be from a far off light of some sort. One concern that I've had is that it could have been caused by a radio tower, but I don't know if the nearby towers line up with the old track. Cheers
My good buddy's brother landed here. My buddy told his brother, "just start driving West and see what happens". His bother landed a job in North Battleford. I think he's still there and it isn't a big town so I'm being light on names and details. His porch cam videos are great. He stopped sharing them on YT when someone from a video knocked on his door to tell him to take the videos down.
Thanks for watching - kinda reminds me of that one channel that posts wild porch cam footage of wild happenings in Chilliwack, BC. Cheers
I love Edmonton. The only thing I hate are the stupid drivers. Green means go you stupid people.
I have lived in northern sask 19 years. Everything north of saskatoon is literally lawless and your safety is 100% your own problem. Lots of great people here too... and they do not advertise.
Thanks for watching - if you're able to compare, do you think northern SK is more wild than northern AB? Cheers
@@strangenorth northern alberta is completely different (in the past)... but I havent been in north alberta since 2012. a lot can change. If you go to a northern sask reserve you would be surprised how it looks exactly like the rural slums in India. Travel to Pelican Narrows and do a video. Canadians need to be shown the truth
yessir im from crimetown NB4Life
Thanks for watching - it was interesting exploring the Battlefords and I'm glad I got to know the area a bit better. Cheers mate
These videos are great. I liked this one too. October is a great time to go to Finlayson Island. The trees are beautiful. However, it does take time to walk around it. I have never felt unsafe there. Bring a little picnic and some hand sanitizer. There is an old-fashioned outhouse in the picnic area. There is no plumbing on the island.
Thanks for watching and I appreciate the recommendation. I thought it was cool that the island was developed into a park area, if I ever explore this area again I'd like to take a walk through that area. Cheers
@Strange North would you be willing to hear about the church from someone who left it? He has insight that should be shared and he would be a key resource.
Thanks for watching - I don't really go too much into that stuff on my channel, but I'm always open to hearing about interesting experiences. You can definitely email me at strangenorthchannel@gmail.com and pass that email on to others. Cheers
Wish they had more truck parking 😕
Thanks for watching - does North Battleford have more truck stops besides that one by the Petro-Canada?
@ nope. Used to be a shell, but it closed. I usually just park behind the Canadian tire 😕
Crime in Canada is rather odd. A lot of homeless in the states are really regular dudes. They don't have much of a social safety net there so it's not that hard to fall, and fall fast. Many are there because they got bankrupted by a medical procedure. In canada I find is usually either snotty white collar kids who have never had any real consequences or people with serious, serious issues. One of the worst places I've ever seen was east hastings in van city. I've explored tijuana and never did I see a place as bad as east hastings. That place looks like something from the walking dead. The battlefords have a lot of first nations people who are struggling.
Thanks for watching - fair points, in particular the issue of people being financially wrecked by expensive medical problems doesn't seem to get enough attention. I think too sometimes crime stats in Canada are overblown a bit, yeah there are problems but the country is pretty safe overall and there are always going to be cities near the top of the list. In this one I just wanted to show some neat parts of the Battlefords, I'd never explored this area and I'm glad I did. Cheers
@@strangenorth I've driven through it, but never explored it. It looks like any other small town in Saskatchewan. Thanks for the vid. Crime in Canada has been steadily declining until the pandemic when everyone went slightly bonkers in the head, not to mention alot of people were wrecked financially. Poverty being the biggest driver of crime.
Much more of an interesting town than I expected
Yeah it's not bad, it was pretty interesting exploring this area. I'd driven though many times on the way to Saskatoon/Regina but only stopped for gas. Cheers
My experience was good overall in the Battlefords - although I wasn't exploring at night and I'm not discounting crimes that do happen there. Just wanted to do a brief video overview as a regular tourist taking some video. It was an interesting experience getting to know the Battlefords a bit. I'd appreciate your recommendations on other cool stuff in this area. Thanks for watching!
