    I changed my mind just 2 days ago about immigration to Saskatoon after knowing about its winter, but honestly, after watching your video, I feel I started to love the place. You seem to love your city so much that you transferred the feeling to me :)
    Scared of winter but I'll take my chances 😉💪✌

      The first winter can be a little tough to get use to it but trust me we have a very large immigrant population and know one has dies yet haha. Truthfully there is something magical about winter.

    I can still remember the Dominion grocery store in the Midtown Plaza, and there was an OK Economy store on 3rd Avenue... but that's a long time ago. On the other hand, here in Vancouver, where I've lived since 1983, there are many downtown grocery stores, but just one gas station left. Anyway, I often miss my hometown of Saskatoon. Great memories... and a great city!!!

      Great memories. Well before my time lol. This is definitely a work in progress in Saskatoon and I hope someday soon they get it figured out. I guess BC is not in western canada as my property taxes are fairly low as on the coast we dont have the snow clearing and yearly road repair prairie cities have. Did I mention if you live in your own home you can claim a home owner grant approx 4-500 dollars. Also 65+ get about $900 off and over 55 or 60 you can defer your property taxes till you sell your home or die. Ps its dec 16 and not a snow flake to be seen yet..

    • @ScottZieglerSaskatoon
      @ScottZieglerSaskatoon  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve lived here my entire life and can tell you we do no have 10-15 tornadoes a year. We do have 1-2 and 99% of the time they are in a farmers field and the most damage they do is to a grain bin. I dont believe there has ever been a tornado hit a major city and Saskatchewan ever. In fact the last tornado to do any damage to a major Canadian city was in Edmonton 30 years ago. You have zero to worry about due to natural disasters.

      travos k the crime stats are skewed because lots of the crime is located in one area and lots of it is domestic which only affects the people involved. The university and area are extremely safe. In fact unless your walking down a dark alley in the middle of the night in the bad part of town you will find everywhere in SASKATOON safe. Scott! You encouraged to ask questions or to reach out to you with any concern about moving to your city. So, I do have a serious question. There are a lot of comments on You tube saying that Saskatoon is one of "crime ridden" cities in Canada with many gangster neighbourhoods to avoid. You are a real estate professional, who (and I perfectly understand that) is interested in attracting people to the city, what would be your thruthful opinion about that?
    (I am from Vancouver, and we are exploring options to move to a more affordable city)
    Another question. Are there enough jobs in retail, grocery, customer service? Are those kind of jobs in the city open to newcomers or only for insiders/"who you know" type jobs?
    Oh, and the last question. What is an average price range for renting 1 or 2 bdr apt in Saskatoon?
    Thank you so much!

    • @ScottZieglerSaskatoon
      @ScottZieglerSaskatoon  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Easy questions first. Typical rent will be $900-$1200 (2 bedroom utilities incl) $1200-$1500 (3 bedroom utilities incl). There are lots of the type of jobs you asked about and no Saskatoon is not small enough to have to be "connected" to find work. It is a very diverse city with lots of opportunity for every and anyone. Finding employment will be easy.
      The crime question. Short answer don't believe everything you read. Saskatoon has about 275,000 people. 99% of the major crime is isolated to family hurting family ect. You have a greater chance of being struck and killed by lighting than you do even getting mugged anywhere in Saskatoon. Obviously there are areas that you can find trouble in if you're looking for it. As a general rule those violent type of crimes will not affect you.
      Petty crime like your car getting broke into ect would be no different than anywhere else.
      Overall Saskatoon is extremely safe on a day by day basis. Its a friendly and welcoming city with lots to do. As the video mentions it is a younger city with lots of opportunity and the cost of living is exponentially cheaper than Vancouver. If you decide to relocate here please let me know. Your first coffee is on me :)

      @@ScottZieglerSaskatoon Thank you so much indeed, for your honest and detailed answer!
      Your response pretty much addressed my main concerns.
      You are right on, and what you said about the crime areas in Sask.actually equally applies to Vancouver, Vancouver has exactly same issues and certain areas are considered undesirable, however as you correctly pointed out, if one does not go looking for trouble, he/she will never attract it.
      In 20 years that i lived in Vancouver I did not have any problems walking or commuting late in any area.. 😁
      All the other info you gave here is most helpful, thank you so much,
      I will certainly contact you and let you know if we make up our mind to move to your city , your advice is most appreciated! 😁👏👍👋
