Great to see Peter being completely honest about the IBIS and the overheating issue. I hope the production unit heats less comparatively but if such a small camera irrespective of the brand is going to shoot 4k 120fps, it's definitely going to heat more than the other cameras.
4k120 at 1880Mbps. That sounds like All-I compression. If they added an IPB compression option to 4k120, we would definitely have less overheating. It would be amazing
i dont understand why these brands cam out with unfinished products, lets be honest, you don have to be a genuis to detect overheating issues...
Pablo Szuster it’s not unfinished. I had 2 Sony a7III’s. They overheated. Sony pushed a firmware update to ignore the overheating issue WAY after the camera was out.

@@PS-ys9yg peter's R5 is pre-production camera, canon just gave it to their ambassador, not to consumer and like he said the footage is one month ago, and the finished product will be available to normal consumer in couple week.. relax canon give them to test the camera and fix anything before release it..

Still making videos on my Canon 80D and I'm loving it. Now don't get me wrong, I'd love to have 4K 120p or IBIS! But in my case, it's not worth upgrading... yet. This being said, the Canon EOS R5 sure is a great camera - thanks for the early look!
80D team here as well. Tho I'm more of a photographer.
I have an 80D and an EOS R. The difference between these cameras already is huge. Shooting clog or raw is much better than normale picture style...
Had the 80d a while ago, loved it. But team eos r now and loving it. Definitely getting the R6 and switching the R over to the b cam. The 6dii just isnt cutting it anymore, even my overhead shots arent always focusing properly.
@@tesssssx It sure is! though I gotta admit I don't think I would go through the hassle of shooting raw and then taking a lot of time color grading afterwards. I just use a color profile with not much saturation, contrast and sharpness. Just to make sure the 80D doesn't completely mess up everything! 🤪

@@dodga With such an extreme focal length (15mm) as the sensor is moved (tilted) by the IBIS, the edge distortion (a "wobble" in video) of the lens becomes really noticeable.
dodga because IBIS is there to stabilize the sensor for stills, and help eliminate handheld shake at longer shutter speeds, but people like this genius think it's going to make his video footage look like it was shot with a gimbal.
You can really see the difference in the colours, and how the sky holds its highlights. Amazing!
Is there IPB compression available for shooting at 4K 120fps? Also do you know if we'll eventually have the option to shoot 1080p 120fps? Right now the R6 is looking like a compelling option because it has no overheating issues when shooting slow-mo 1080p at 120fps.

Buy it if you will make at least 1500usd more per month otherwise work on marketing, sales and ability then you will have created a need for those highres photos/videos or you'll anyhow deliver what your customers wants. I got 7K usd job today. Will I buy it? Hell no! We need surplus. Sadly, never have my customers said to me "your cameras are not good enough". I guess I buy it for my own satisfaction... But these times I´m more into creating a buffer.

@@mrslickdetailer9652 gopro is digital stabilization. It's completely different from the r5's mechanical IBIS.
You turn off the IBIS and only use the stabilization of the lens, just like in previous bodies.

thank you for amazing works you continuously put in these videos. Question: how do you balance between frame rates and resolution to use as much of R5 as you can (so as little time waiting for the overheating)? Or do you just go for it and wait for like 30 min before the next shoot? How does that change your flow while shooting? All the best!!

High quality 4k will overheat (downsampled from 8K), normal 4k won't

@Yavor Kapitanov I really don't know why Canon decided to make the R5 a camera with better video specs and not the R6 since it has 45mp sensor. The value proposition seems a bit off here
Who really knows anything about this camera yet. Let's wait for some unbiased, real testing and independant reviews. The only vids we have seen so far are from Canon ambassadors.

@@williamkung9863 LMAO.. He's talking about IQ. IBIS can be disabled or shoot a little longer than 16mm. Corner wobbling is a known IBIS issue, especially in ultrawide setup.

That IBIS looks warpy, not just in the corners, not just at 15mm. Tell us straight dude, before we invest, is it always like this or is it the occasional ill-effect of some settings combo? Digital IS on my R for example exhibits similar warp in crop mode when it’s trying to suppress the rolling shutter effect...
All IBIS has warpy shit in the corners at wide angles, you’ll start to see it in the corners after 24mm, but it typically gets really bad after 20mm. Intolerable to you, easy solved, just use a gimbal.
It's overpriced gimmicky crap, this R5 should be half the price.
Cinema Views well you say that but it happens when he zooms in too after 4 mins 30. I wanted to love this camera without a gimbal. Not keen on the floaty look. It’s a shame because otherwise the images look beautiful. I’ve worked with Canon all my career - love my R - and I’ve never been so disappointed because I’ve never seen such ugly warp on any IBIS. Still, will wait to see more footage. Fingers crossed these flaws are down to it being a preproduction model
Olympus has done the best in reducing the warpy stuff on wide lenses. Seems other brands cant get away from it though. Panasonics do it with really wide lenses too. But get a lens that isnt an ultrawide, and it wont happen.

Really impressed with Peter’s integrity. He’s a Canon fan and a brand ambassador, and he continues to critique the camera is honest and thoughtful ways. Literally, the second I noticed the wobble, he jumped in and commented on it. I’ve always been a PM fan, but this vlog solidifies why I respect him so much.

Why do people keep trying to excuse the overheating with "its a preproduction model"? The body is a problem here, with regards to the specs...firmware won't be able to fix this thing.

did anyone else get a free trial to WeTransfer or Dropbox and now it's peering close to the end of the trial? I mean would we be disqualified if we cancel the trial? even though the small print said they can change the deadline but 2 weeks+ was a bit unexpected!

I don’t get why all the camera manufacturers don’t give us the option to lock the z axis with IBIS. Every camera with IBIS has that hideous warp looking wobble. If the R5 has an option for electronic only you are better off just using that with wide angle lenses than using IBIS. All my IBIS cameras from Sony, Panasonic and Fuji do the same thing. The EOS R with only electronic? Doesn’t happen. It has its own issues with stabilisation but that IBIS warping sucks
Probably they will let us lock the z axis on the next camera model (only this feature will increase the camera price) that they will call “R5 Pro”

@@stu9000 It's not rolling shutter. That's the IBIS doing its thing. RS is different. Take a look at some Sony A6400 footage to see what rolling shutter looks like.
That wobble is only 1/2 the issue. Canon says it will overheat and shut down in 20 minutes at 70 F, at 8K or 4K modes. If you are in direct sun light, it could theoretically drop in half. Canon is the one publishing the facts about overheating in their own manual. As an "ambassador" of Canon, he cannot talk about the bad.

Let’s applaud Canon for bringing 8K to 35mm full-frame sensor. Sure there are going to be growing pains, but what is important is someone take the first step! Canon is the company to take that first step. Remember how Canon revolutionized hybrid 35mm full frame with the Canon 5D Mark II, now again with the EOS R5. Peter is a true “working pro shooter” who gives the working pro shooter perspective... pros and cons. Thank you Peter.
Pilot tip! When counting things one handed (like quads), 1-5 are just normal fingers pointing up, 6-10 are same fingers just pointing sideways. So 6 is just a sideways index finger, 7 is sideways peace sign and so on

Just need to rack out a couple of mm. The fujifilm x-t4 does the same thing with the 8-16mm at 8mm. It's IBIS related.

Man this camera yields an insanely good picture! 😳 As for the IBIS, the wobble is pretty normal with all ultra wide lenses. Even on micro four thirds. The overheating could've been resolved with a fan. But even so, I'm still shocked by the cinema-like picture!

Can IBIS be turned off?
dodga if it's like the GH5 you can turn it off but it will still wobble if you lock it down to a vehicle. It is still floating even if it's not actively compensating. That's why the GH5S exists as a more traditional option with no IBIS, less crop, etc. Two options for your needs.
That's the nicest way of saying " NOTICE- this camera isn't perfect... just FYI ". At least that's what I hear, lol. I was hoping to hear what you thought about the footage on the big screen at the end.
yeah nice stabilize type of cam, is that a digital stabilizing or in side the mechanical of the camera?
Other than the IBIS wobble (which most IBIS systems struggle with when shooting that wide) it looks really good. Still curious about the overheating in standard frame rates where you're probably more likely to run longer takes but overall looks really solid so far.
I'd get an anxiety attack if i was to take the R5 on a shoot like this.

Sony overheats doing 4K 30p at 100 mbps. Canon does it like a man: 8K (2600 mbps), either downscaled 4K 120p.
They are pushing what is possible on a camera. Cant wait how Sony will solve this.

Looks soft to me, and the IBIS has a lot of warping.
It looks very soft to you, because it is soft. They included that LP (Low Pass) anti aliasing filter to soften the image to reduce Moire. Previously, they let you chose a LP filter or not 5DSR vs 5DS. Now, it's permanently included, permanently softening all images/video.

Am I the only who think this camera's footage isn't as good as hype has been created?
I'm not convinced for this over Lumix S1H.
I see clipped highlights on the clouds. And overall it still looks video-ish.

I go off-roading just outside of Minden all the time. Full sized trucks though but we always run into the ATV groups. Especially when we camp out at Ray's Place.
