I think that it's completely normal. If you are looking at your phone because you don't know how to talk to them, you should probably type down ways you could start out a conversation. With one of the crushes that I had that barely knew me, I was able to actually start a conversation with them without even addressing them. I was mostly asking about a certain video game and if anyone played it. I had noticed that they had a patch on their backpack that was the logo for that game series before but I had kind of forgotten about it. It wasn't until I was asking everyone about it that I realized that he did like the game and I found out that we watched the same TH-camr at the time. If I were you, I would probably look at what they have and see if anything they have is something that the two of you can have a conversation about. You can start the conversation by asking them about the thing and then it could possibly excite them to actually talk about something that they like.
What I like the best with my crush is his smile. Not because he’s handsome/adorable/cute (okay FIIIIIINE he’s *adorkable* ) when he smiles but because his smile makes me feel happy and warm inside... The year ended and summer came, and all summer I thought about how i couldn't wait to get back to school and see him again. when school came back around, I was able to get a way to contact him (through one of his friends) and talked to him.
I asked him if he still wanted to talk (since we never talked).
he said no.
I was heartbroken. I didn't want to go to school. i avoided him all day, luckily he isn't in any of my classes, but he was in my homeroom.

I crushed really hard on this girl in high school, I honestly thought we were destined to be together. We were childhood friends and over time I just couldn't stop thinking about her. Eventually we had an argument about one of her exes (I never dated her tbh but she told me everything) who was manipulating her physically. I fought the guy (fixing nothing, of course) and she was so angry. When she found out I had a crush on her, our relationship just changed. I always wonder if I had just told her sooner, or waited long after her anger to say something, if things would have gone differently.
She thought I was just trying to impress her or keep her to myself, when in my eyes I was trying to protect someone I cared deeply about.
I'm in college now, and despite coming a long way, I haven't been able to like anyone for long without thinking of her. For years I pushed so many people away, felt empty and devoid of any type of love, and I still view myself as not good enough for people. I only now have had a *minor* crush, and anything more I can't really allow. When I fall, I fall hard, so that's why I can't take the dive unless I'm certain that there's something at the bottom. Right now, I am #5, whistling it away and just trying to get through college classes. One day, I hope, I'll find a new her that I can cherish and protect.

"The 'aggressive' crush," which would be classified as someone who would go out of their way to impress or get their crush's attention, regardless of being shy or not. They would make nice gestures such as doing favors or running errands. Some might even brag or over-exaggerate to their crush over things they have or not. The positive to this is that it can bring out more characteristics or personality traits in a person, that not even they themselves knew they could express.
it can become kind of an issue when ur crush is a jerk and u think being a jerk will impress them. It's kind of hard to step back and realize that's not the best thing, even though it may seem obvious.
With all due respect Amber, trying to impress a crush and get their attention is not necessarily being a jerk. Now, I do understand that the crush still might not acknowledge the other person or treat them with some kind of disrespect, and of course that situation is not healthy. However, if the 'crushing' person is offering to do these things for their crush and they give their gratitude in some way, then there is no harm in doing so.

I have the weird habit of looking at my phone whenever my crush and I are in the same room or waiting in the same hallway. And I try to figure out a smooth way of starting a small talk with them, but everytime I just don't do it. I'm a 17 years old guy, is this normal?
I think that it's completely normal. If you are looking at your phone because you don't know how to talk to them, you should probably type down ways you could start out a conversation. With one of the crushes that I had that barely knew me, I was able to actually start a conversation with them without even addressing them. I was mostly asking about a certain video game and if anyone played it. I had noticed that they had a patch on their backpack that was the logo for that game series before but I had kind of forgotten about it. It wasn't until I was asking everyone about it that I realized that he did like the game and I found out that we watched the same TH-camr at the time. If I were you, I would probably look at what they have and see if anything they have is something that the two of you can have a conversation about. You can start the conversation by asking them about the thing and then it could possibly excite them to actually talk about something that they like.

What I like the best with my crush is his smile. Not because he’s handsome/adorable/cute (okay FIIIIIINE he’s *adorkable* ) when he smiles but because his smile makes me feel happy and warm inside... I literally start blushing like 20 shades of red and want to curl myself into a ball on the floor, giggling. He makes me feel so happy even when I have a bad day :)

I was horribly depressed after an online acquaintance passed away, I kept failing at job interviews, and was watching my Grandfather descend further into Alzheimer's.
I then got a crush on a girl who seemed perfect for me.
Turns out that she was in a relationship and was not allowed to date someone or even have a fraternal relationship with someone of my standing in our organization due to work rules.
Needless to say, it was the worst year of my life.
Getting harassed and threatened by Russian nationalists that year also snapped me out of my suicidal state, reminding me there are worse things in life than wanting the wrong girl. I kept going our of pure spite after that. I'm Polish to the core
