Super Tempo, Tryrush Deppy (it looked cute), Panzer Dragoon Saga, Magic Knight Rayearth and several of other of my favorite Saturn games are just too rare and too expensive for me to experience without reproductions. Totally worth it. I love Super Tempo and Magic Knight Rayearth and consider them among my top Saturn games.
How amazing it would be if Sega themselves started reprinting these games? With retro collecting becoming more and more trendy / expensive , I feel like they’d make a good buck on making new copies of games from past consoles. Look how well Nintendo does repackaging the same classics , over and over again .
It would be amazing. Sadly also impossible due to expired licenses. From music, IP landed to other devs, etc. Besides, Sega it's not what it used to be. They don't care now.

I have loads of self-made "backups" and printed NTSC-J inserts -- would happily buy the original games if they were still available for say $40, but can't really pay $300+ for disks that might be dead in a few years. Limited Run kinda does that now but with newer systems.If company would step up and really push for making older games with good quality they could make a living doing it.
I don’t understand why someone like Sega doesn’t capitalize on the market for their legacy products. It’s another source of revenue with very little investment on their part outside of rereleasing their older games on newer hardware.

Reproductions of unreleased games is the absolute best I definitely agree there, especially as someone who really feels the need to play on original hardware. I never knew there was the option to get them in this nice quality for the Saturn though, definitely something I'll be looking into later. If pirating a game is theft, then taking someone's IP, doing a fan translation, and selling it is the same as selling a counterfeit product like designer clothes. In my book at least.
Didn't mean for the segment to come off as preaching morality, but rather explaining it in a common sense way that I tend to look at it. If companies like Sega, Capcom and Treasure, go out of their way to do modern versions of retrogames and nobody buys them, they aren't going to do very many more. At least nothing of substance. They absolutely see pirating games as theft, and consider such when thinking about classic releases. All I'm saying is that you MUST support retro releases(at least some of them) when they hit, or you can damn well bet you won't get many more. Money drives everything, and they have to see a return on an investment. I look at it with less impact when a game goes unreleased for 20 years with no future releases in sight. Nobody is making anything off those IP's, so what the hell is the difference.
I used to play the crap out of Dragon Force (I was nuts about WD in the 90's on the SCD and Saturn). I played all 8 campaigns multiple times and stayed up way too late playing that game, which led to my work habits of staying up too late in front of a screen, lol. As much as I played it, I'm sad to say (and somewhat surprised) I have never played the 2nd one.

Yet another great video! Sadly, reproductions are the only way to play some games, due to how difficult they are to get, not to mention that very few old games are sold digitally. I would rather enjoy the experience any way I can, rather than go broke trying to get some of those really expensive games. Anyway, I’d LOVE to get that copy of Policenauts, if I happen to be so lucky. :)
How do you feel about repros of games you own by other means? The example I am thinking of doing right now is that due to the MegaDrive Mini 2, I now finally own Lunar, Lunar 2, Popful Mail, and Shining Force CD. I feel like buying a US repro of said games is fine, as I do own them now via the Mini 2 (Japanese versions, but as far as I am concerned, I own the game regardless of region). Same goes for Snatcher, as I "technically own" it via the PC-Engine Mini (Satellite Collecting).
It can't be considered "theft" because you aren't depriving anyone of their property. Intellectual property is made up out of thin air because businesses wanted to find a legal way to attempt to secure future profits and limit competition. Never feel bad for downloading roms or buying repros.
Great video! I recently figured out the Pseudo Saturn mod and have had a blast making my own reproductions. I've even customized new disc covers and full dvd covers and inserts. I'm still experimenting so nothing for sale yet. It's more a learning experience. But it's great to have access to and explore all the Saturn games I missed out on as a kid!
I say repro all the way, as long as they work, lol. Seriously, no developer, publisher, etc. is making money off old games being sold on eBay, it's a victimless crime until studios release the game for modern platforms. Play the games in a way that works for you. I just ordered the English translation of Shining Force 3. My own burned games are really hit and miss but I do have 1990s repros from the previous owner of my Saturn, those work flawlessly so I have to assume my issues reside in my burner. Really hope the repro works. My next purchase is gonna be a Satiator. I personally don't care if the games are legit or not, I just want to play more games on the Saturn. I have a solid physical collection of NA and Japan games but I'm done buying legit games for the most part, prices are just outrageos and I already have the games I need. (Azel: RPG, Albert Odyssey, RE, Biohazard, Deep Fear, HOTD, and a few others.)

My only problem with repro's is when a seller is trying to pass them as real, im glad you mentioned about buying a classic game if it has been re-released on current hardware, but if its rare and expensive I totally get it, I have ocarina master quest on n64 and never would have happened if it wasn't a reproduction.

I mainly just reproduce the art of the UK cardboard cases, as a lot of time the cardboard warps, due to the glue used to stick the internal plastic disc and manual holders to them, plus the covers are unprotected due to this design and are more susceptible to scratches and denting in comparison to the send case design, which is a specially designed plastic case with protective plastic screen to hold the paper artwork.

Policenauts is something I would love to get my teeth into I have to admit and it is nice to see it in a form where it can be enjoyed on the Saturn as well as it being pleasing to the eye. Thanks for Sharing them with us.
I have a action replay 4 or 5 meg ram at my sisters, but no psuedo saturn. I'm pretty sure the laser is fried. Are you using a frame miester? Otherwise wouldn't the pixels be broken up and have alot of jags on hd tv?

If you just want a game because it's something you use to have and you want it again, it's fine. If you don't care about the collectability of it, then a reproduction is fine if you don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on an original. Sometimes it's the only way to get a game in english when it was never released in your region originally and that's fine as well.
What shop is the best on reproduction on Esty please gonna get a few games that are crazy high prices 300 and up and rather go that route with reproduction

I didn't realize that these were available. I have never played the Dragon Force or Policenauts games. I just recently picked up a Pseudo-Saturn and I really need to fix my hard drive battery so that I can play Shining Force III.
Repros are great for things like unreleased games or games with English translations, as its ultimately up to the publisher to make sure they have an English release. Only thing to watch out for is that sometimes CD-Rs (which is what these are) can cause more wear and tear to the laser mechanisms on these old drives, particularly if the discs are of low quality or burnt wrong. Always important to get something thats good quality.

That Shining Force III looks simply stunning! I'll definitely buy it as soon as I can. As we've talked before, I'm pretty ok with reproductions and stuff like that. One thing that bothers me though: For example, I have Guardian Heroes for Xbox 360, but even though Microsoft has made it compatible for XBO, they don't offer compatibility for it on PC, even when they do that sort of thing for other games in the same fashion... so I can't play it online anymore with friends, among other things. If they don't bother to make it available in most, if not every platform on the market, well... it is still unavailable for most people. On the other hand, if I want it for Saturn I have to pay outrageous ammounts of money to an individual, instead of being able to send money to Treasure/SEGA and receive a copy so... yeah, I'll pay to someone that worked on a beautiful case and CD instead. Anyhow, thanks for the giveaway! I'd REALLY like to have a chance to win that Dragon Force II translated, I've been trying to set it up myself but for whatever reason I always encounter a problem with it. See ya around! Come on, you have to know that's not practically feasible. Nothing's stopping you from supporting the game on modern platforms, and then picking up a repro copy or making the disk yourself if you want to play it on original hardware.
Indeed. If you want to play Guardian Heroes on the Saturn as a back up, that's fine, but nothing is stopping you from supporting the IP holder with a tenner on Xbox Live.
Im all for repro's as long as its on retro hardware since I believe the copyrights for those have expired, therefore copyright infringement probably wouldnt apply like it would in modern consoles like PS4/XB1/Switch. Plus, most original copies of Saturn games are expensive as hell. I would gladly spend $70-80 on a repo of Panzer Dragoon Saga but would never spend $1000 on a original copy. It makes otherwise unattainable games attainable.

Sega isn’t making any money off the sale of physical media anymore. Hard to find games are just that and can cost a boat load if you can find it at all. Having said that I’m not opposed to reproduction copies as long as they’re branded accordingly

Great show I have a question, if I’m running a pseudo cart, and English version of dragonforce2 what would be the best way to save a game file? Does the pseudo cart also do this or should I just use the internal memory
There are some carts now that do Pseudo Saturn, the RAM expansions, and the memory cards all in one. Some do not, so you need to know what you are looking at. The easiest thing to do is save DF2 to your internal memory, then back it up to a memory card. I do all my saves this way since the internal RAM of the Saturn is so tiny. I have found FRAM mods utterly useless when some games take the entire space alone. A stand alone memory card is a must purchases either way.

Some of those repros look real nice and professional. I've done some normal CD jewel case cover repros myself for some Saturn games I had lying around without cases or manuals. As for the giveaway I wouldn't mind Policenauts at all.

Great video 👍 Just wanted to mention that as you know some games require the 1mb/4mb ram cart to play on your Saturn. So not all back ups will work if the pseudo Saturn cart is place. Found that out the hard way. Thanks again Sega Lord. You got me into the Saturn.
It will work if you flash Pseudo saturn onto an Action Replay plus cart. Still maintains the 1mb and 4mb ram expansion - only thing you lose is the carts ability to back up save and use cheat codes.
Would the Policenauts work with a Action Replay 4M+, or would I need a modded cart of that? It's been a while since I kept up with that scene. I loved Snatcher on the Sega CD and would love o play Policenauts someday. I'll throw my hat in on winning that.
Which Pseudo Saturn Cartridge seller would you recommend? I'm interested in one that provides backup memory, the 1mb and 4mb ram, and allow my Saturn to play reproductions. Basically, everything the Action Replay cartridge plus does plus allow my Sega Saturn to play reproductions.
I did my own Pseudo cartridge, so I don't have a seller to recommend. I haven't heard of anyone having issues with them though. They either work or don't.

I even bought Radiant Silvergun for $40 when Electronics Boutique (now Gamestop) sold imports for a short period (nobody bought it, they marked it down, lol. Also bought Xmen vs SF, Darkstalkers 2 & Puzzle Fighter there too for a decent price, was cheaper there than the import shops at the time). Those were the days. Yeah I'm old..

It's been my hope for years that Sega would do limited runs on their classic games, even if they came at a premium.

I remember when Majesco rereleased SNES and Genesis games in the late 90s. They also released a third version of the Genesis.

I'll give you a special on all of those games right now. They suck on Saturn because you can't control them with a mouse or touchscreen.

I would think, at this point, that people who don't want to pay for originals, will just go the Optical Disk Emulator option.

I say repro all the way, as long as they work, lol. Seriously, no developer, publisher, etc. is making money off old games being sold on eBay, it's a victimless crime until studios release the game for modern platforms. Play the games in a way that works for you. I just ordered the English translation of Shining Force 3. My own burned games are really hit and miss but I do have 1990s repros from the previous owner of my Saturn, those work flawlessly so I have to assume my issues reside in my burner. Really hope the repro works. My next purchase is gonna be a Satiator. I personally don't care if the games are legit or not, I just want to play more games on the Saturn. I have a solid physical collection of NA and Japan games but I'm done buying legit games for the most part, prices are just outrageos and I already have the games I need. (Azel: RPG, Albert Odyssey, RE, Biohazard, Deep Fear, HOTD, and a few others.)

Hey bro. Do you have any fighters collections that you bought reproduction? I’ve had my Saturn for 2 years now. And I really want street fighter alpha 2 really bad and x men vs street fighter children of the album and don’t know where to get a complete reproduced copy of them from.
I would be interested in the Policenauts repro. I have always wanted to play it, but never got around to it. I just got my 9 year old daughter into playing Sega Saturn games. She enjoys Darkstalkers while using an old Virtua Stick.

You're the Saturn guy, and I'm the Dreamcast guy! I love your fascination with the Saturn and I love watching your videos. You always make me want to buy a Saturn but I'm always so broke! I'm tempted to get one I swear.
My only problem with repro's is when a seller is trying to pass them as real, im glad you mentioned about buying a classic game if it has been re-released on current hardware, but if its rare and expensive I totally get it, I have ocarina master quest on n64 and never would have happened if it wasn't a reproduction.

I mainly just reproduce the art of the UK cardboard cases, as a lot of time the cardboard warps, due to the glue used to stick the internal plastic disc and manual holders to them, plus the covers are unprotected due to this design and are more susceptible to scratches and denting in comparison to the send case design, which is a specially designed plastic case with protective plastic screen to hold the paper artwork.
I really enjoy this channel! I was a sega genisis kid. now i emerse myself in trying to repair and collect these gems!

I've got a whole binder of back ups I made myself, sure it's sort of the ghetto way of playing Saturn but much cheaper than buying all the originals.
Policenauts is something I would love to get my teeth into I have to admit and it is nice to see it in a form where it can be enjoyed on the Saturn as well as it being pleasing to the eye. Thanks for Sharing them with us.

You will need a chipped saturn to play a reproduction. I was able to set the date to 12-25-199? To play my regular nights in christmas mode.
An Action Replay with Pseudo Saturn will play them as well.
I have a action replay 4 or 5 meg ram at my sisters, but no psuedo saturn. I'm pretty sure the laser is fried. Are you using a frame miester? Otherwise wouldn't the pixels be broken up and have alot of jags on hd tv?

If you just want a game because it's something you use to have and you want it again, it's fine. If you don't care about the collectability of it, then a reproduction is fine if you don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on an original. Sometimes it's the only way to get a game in english when it was never released in your region originally and that's fine as well.

I didn't realize that these were available. I have never played the Dragon Force or Policenauts games. I just recently picked up a Pseudo-Saturn and I really need to fix my hard drive battery so that I can play Shining Force III.

Repros are great for things like unreleased games or games with English translations, as its ultimately up to the publisher to make sure they have an English release.
Only thing to watch out for is that sometimes CD-Rs (which is what these are) can cause more wear and tear to the laser mechanisms on these old drives, particularly if the discs are of low quality or burnt wrong.
Always important to get something thats good quality.

That Shining Force III looks simply stunning! I'll definitely buy it as soon as I can.
As we've talked before, I'm pretty ok with reproductions and stuff like that.
One thing that bothers me though: For example, I have Guardian Heroes for Xbox 360, but even though Microsoft has made it compatible for XBO, they don't offer compatibility for it on PC, even when they do that sort of thing for other games in the same fashion... so I can't play it online anymore with friends, among other things. If they don't bother to make it available in most, if not every platform on the market, well... it is still unavailable for most people.
On the other hand, if I want it for Saturn I have to pay outrageous ammounts of money to an individual, instead of being able to send money to Treasure/SEGA and receive a copy so... yeah, I'll pay to someone that worked on a beautiful case and CD instead.
Anyhow, thanks for the giveaway! I'd REALLY like to have a chance to win that Dragon Force II translated, I've been trying to set it up myself but for whatever reason I always encounter a problem with it.

Come on, you have to know that's not practically feasible. Nothing's stopping you from supporting the game on modern platforms, and then picking up a repro copy or making the disk yourself if you want to play it on original hardware.
Indeed. If you want to play Guardian Heroes on the Saturn as a back up, that's fine, but nothing is stopping you from supporting the IP holder with a tenner on Xbox Live.
That's giving money to the ones who ported the game, not the original creators.
Im all for repro's as long as its on retro hardware since I believe the copyrights for those have expired, therefore copyright infringement probably wouldnt apply like it would in modern consoles like PS4/XB1/Switch.
Plus, most original copies of Saturn games are expensive as hell. I would gladly spend $70-80 on a repo of Panzer Dragoon Saga but would never spend $1000 on a original copy. It makes otherwise unattainable games attainable.

Sega isn’t making any money off the sale of physical media anymore. Hard to find games are just that and can cost a boat load if you can find it at all. Having said that I’m not opposed to reproduction copies as long as they’re branded accordingly

Great show I have a question, if I’m running a pseudo cart, and English version of dragonforce2 what would be the best way to save a game file? Does the pseudo cart also do this or should I just use the internal memory
There are some carts now that do Pseudo Saturn, the RAM expansions, and the memory cards all in one. Some do not, so you need to know what you are looking at. The easiest thing to do is save DF2 to your internal memory, then back it up to a memory card. I do all my saves this way since the internal RAM of the Saturn is so tiny. I have found FRAM mods utterly useless when some games take the entire space alone. A stand alone memory card is a must purchases either way.

Some of those repros look real nice and professional. I've done some normal CD jewel case cover repros myself for some Saturn games I had lying around without cases or manuals. As for the giveaway I wouldn't mind Policenauts at all.

Great video 👍 Just wanted to mention that as you know some games require the 1mb/4mb ram cart to play on your Saturn. So not all back ups will work if the pseudo Saturn cart is place. Found that out the hard way. Thanks again Sega Lord. You got me into the Saturn.
It will work if you flash Pseudo saturn onto an Action Replay plus cart.
Still maintains the 1mb and 4mb ram expansion - only thing you lose is the carts ability to back up save and use cheat codes.

Which Pseudo Saturn Cartridge seller would you recommend? I'm interested in one that provides backup memory, the 1mb and 4mb ram, and allow my Saturn to play reproductions. Basically, everything the Action Replay cartridge plus does plus allow my Sega Saturn to play reproductions.
I did my own Pseudo cartridge, so I don't have a seller to recommend. I haven't heard of anyone having issues with them though. They either work or don't.

New cases are available these days. Cheap ones and expensive ones, depending on your level of commitment.

I actually own the US release. Bought that (Panzer Saga, Burning Rangers, many more!) when originaly released back in the day. I even bought Radiant Silvergun for $40 when Electronics Boutique (now Gamestop) sold imports for a short period (nobody bought it, they marked it down, lol. Also bought Xmen vs SF, Darkstalkers 2 & Puzzle Fighter there too for a decent price, was cheaper there than the import shops at the time). Those were the days. Yeah I'm old..
