“This part the guardians at long last arrive at the core of the traveler, maligned by the witness, its true state obscured by illusion. They have to manipulate the traveler’s light through direction using darkness that takes the form of shapes in order to fight a tug of war with the witness, the guardians constantly reshaping themselves in a desperate attempt for their existence to remain congruent with reality in a race against time to shatter the witness’ veil over truth, and finish him off once and for all. The music should go pretty hard.” The music:
A beautiful white room, with a dead dark layer hidden beneath your vision. You can only see the truth when you join the dead, or if you overcome the puzzle.
It’s likely to look like it’s full of life and light by the witnesses design to try trick us into thinking we are doing something bad here and taking away the light. Truthfully we are actually breaking the witnesses deception and revealing the lies. The whole shape mechanics can also be looked as the witness is giving us a shape and we are defying it by making a new shape and overcoming its trap. Verity seems like it’s a trapped room that is the witnesses final defence before anyone can confront it.
Honestly this is one of my favorite encounters because of just how…unsettling the whole thing is. The fact that this eldritch being is making us play with basic shapes, the creepy darkness of the room being visible on the corners of your screen, having to break the 4th wall in order to dunk Ghosts at the right statues…it’s the most creative encounter we’ve ever had and it more than anything else made me feel like we don’t belong here
The way I see this encounter is the where the witness is manipulating the light to enact the final shape. Also in this encounter the witness gives 3 guardians a shape and the goal is to obtain 2 different shapes to escape the witnesses grasp. The witness has given your final Shape and we are defying it by creating a new one formed of the 2 opposite shapes the witness gave you. This is also directly attached to the witness as here it can simply just finalise us. The next part is just the best build up and intro to a boss we’ve ever seen
This encounter is so stressful in the best possible way. Just trying not to talk over each other while guiding the rest to save you is a massive hurdle.
And this was only made during the delay. I can’t imagine the disappointment if this raid was not beaten by only 1 team on day 1. It was fitting that one fireteam and honestly kinda wish they had it be only a 24 hour.
I agree, although they could have put a 6th encounter where your team has to escape the monolith as the Witness angrily pursues you or something. Kinda like Last Wish.
8:35 is my favorite portion of music from this entire raid. Love the heroic strings when you're finally putting everything together and rejoining your team.

The “first grade arts and crafts” encounter has surprisingly amazing music Joking aside once mechanics were down it’s a super fun experience, similar to vault and Riven in that regard
Nah it's still pretty hard even with calcs/strat figured out. Issue, compared with the vault, is that it's obvious what you did wrong in the vault. If you died depositing - it means it's the opposite of your eye of riven attunement. But here there are so many non obvious things like when knights/ogres stop to spawn, wall lagging behind or situation when in the process someone put wrong shape and then having it extremely hard to untangle back what's the problem/the higher than usual penalty for dying in the solo rooms with random player swapping dead one. Also that you can explicitly assign people for roles in the vault and in the Verity you need to jump hoops to have the outside person doing 3d shapes always being the same/people in the solo rooms are always random. Imagine if vault had 3 people randomly marked after each cycle who can read the vault and if some of them died the vault penumbra/antumbra would change.
@@63Limar mechanically speaking the encounter is complex, but it’s not terribly difficult once you’ve learned em. Conversely it’s really easy to mess up. And unlike in vault where there’s room for some error, pretty much any mistake by anyone is a wipe. So I see your point, I may not find it hard but that’s anecdotal
This lore wise is kinda true. Every time it says “the witness notices your efforts…” is the witness figuring out that we are geting closer and closer to breaking his final shape. The fast Strat makes this encounter so much less stressful and easier. The lfg double up is riddled with issues.
Genuinely, the best encounter in a raid of all time. Only the vault comes remotely close
I think it's the best encounter ever as well. Vault second and Death Zamboni third.
