Take a second for some relaxing banjo

- Here's some chill banjo music for your Monday afternoon, in particular for the banjo-lovers in hurricane areas. Hope you're all staying safe and taking care of each other. The first song I played here is a Bob Dylan tune named Ring Them Bells; I hadn't played it in a while, which probably shows in the multiple hiccups in the playing, but it was really fun to rediscover it as I went. The second song is The Great Remember, by Steve Martin. It's one of my all time favorite banjo songs; a classic that's always sweet to come back to. The third tune is Red Prairie Dawn, which I think sounds good played fast or slow; I tried to keep it slow for this video, though I did get carried away when I jumped to Cindy, the last tune. It's just such a fun tune I couldn't help but playing it fast at first. I think it sounded pretty cool slowed down too though.
The incredible gourd banjo I'm playing here was made by Jesse Head! If you want to check out his other work (he makes lots of cool gourd/wood instruments) and maybe get a banjo of your own, you can find him at his website jesseheadnatur... and follow him on instagram at / head_jesse

This channel is a haven from a crazy world. Thank-you Phoebe. 😔❤
So refreshing and genuine
Love all your videos but I especially love these slower and wonderfully melodic pieces.
Phoebe!!! I bought my first banjo!!! And you have been one of my biggest inspirations!! 🤍
Congratulations happy day
Welcome to the family!
Hope you enjoy!
Hello Phoebe. When I first chanced upon your channel, there was a large poster of Lt. Columbo (Peter Falk) in your shed, which had to be taken down to make space for new instruments. Subjectively, Columbo could be regarded the patron saint of humility and persistence, and therefore, would you perhaps consider to reserve place for a smaller portrait somewhere around Elvis and the birds? Ah, just one more thing... Nah, that's all I had to ask. --Waving from Istanbul.
Gracias Phoebe. Me da una gran satisfacción escuchar tú música.. bella 🎶🪕
I never thought of that but it’s a good observation.
Thanks for the music! Please pray for Western North Carolina.
Banana bread and extended banjo tunes -- thank you!!
Have you heard Sarah Maddack's Banana Bread? th-cam.com/video/Ov0JQfvT0KQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=B_EiwAXFyGauwF5N
My headache went away Phoebe sometimes the slower music is more meaningful
how beautiful sounding this is. It truly is very relaxing. Thank-you. God bless all those affected by the hurricane.
Dr. Phoebe, you always have the right prescription! I am joining my heart with yours in prayer for those affected by Hurricane Helene. ❤❤❤❤❤
how precious, just what I needed, thank you :)
hooray for relaxing banjo! this is especially nice on a Monday
I appreciate the video, and I wish I could have taken a second to enjoy some banjo music when it was posted. It's now been almost a week since the hurricane hit and I just got home from an out-of-town work assignment cutting trees and clearing roads in badly affected areas of my state. We were on the ground since Friday morning when the storms passed and I haven't had a moment of break until coming back today. After many days of hard work and nights spent sleeping on the floor of a local fire station, I can finally take a minute to breathe and relax. Your contribution is welcome, even if it may not seem like much. Thank you!
Heipä hei täältä öisestä Suomesta.
Kyllä on hienoa.🎶
Olemme iloisia saadessamme sinut, terveisiä Amerikasta iltapäivällä
You are a delight Phoebe to think of giving your talents to others who are suffering the awful result of a devastating Hurricane❤❤❤❤❤❤ you are a truly special person and we all love you !!!
Love your channel Phoebe! You helped inspire me to play clawhammer!
I'm in northeast Tennessee on the western North Carolina border. My family is fine but things are massively stressful and I really needed your gift. Thank you so much. This video was the perfect end to a pretty stinky day. Goodnight.
I like that you make mistakes sometimes, it is like sitting with a friend as they play a song for you
I am so glad I live in Alaska where there is no hurricanes. This playing is good for me. My blood sugar has been setting off alarms on my phone since about 3 AM . Messes with sleep I got to eat some chocolate though 🥰 Going to play some fiddle before going out in the sun. Thanks for the tune.
Rather it is "A moment for mom" "Ode to Ozma" or moments like this... a special magic pours out that is so meditative and speaks of hope, love and your amazing heart. Thank you so much for sharing this time with us.
Yes you're right, the world can be a scary place. Sympathy for the hurricane damage from UK friend. All the more reason for some peaceful, beautiful 🪕 banjo. I'm a great believer in the healing power of music. Thanx Phoebe as always. Martin London UK
Woo hoo! In the mood for some of your wonderful music. But now I want banana bread…
Love that antler arm rest
Phoebe, I love your unshakeable positive attitude and the joy you exude. Thankyou.
Nicely done and good timing 🎶
Thanks for thinking of the east coast . FL, GA, SC, NC, TN and VA all got hit pretty hard. Where I live in Southeastern NC was not to bad, but where my sister lives in independence Virginia was. She ok thank God. Thanks again.
Your awesome, Phoebe :) I travel with instruments.. this sounds like something cello would play nicely with. Keep strumming!
Enjoyed this. Very calming.
Awesome music for sitting on the porch with a glass of tea and watch the birds and squirrels with. 👍🏻
Your music expressed love to others today.
Thanks Pheobes. We all have different elemental madness that causes anxiety. Ive got family in NC so its a little worrisom when the ocean decided to go insane and attack the land. Also have family in upstate New York so im usrd to the sky barfing frozen death toward them. Im in cali so we dont ahve much to worry bout here except the pits of hell opening up, toppling our buildings and everything being on fire for nine months of the year. I hope you are safe as well and handling whatever mother natures fury sends YOUR way next. Im sure youve been over the rainbow plenty of times enough by not but if you find yourself suddenly cycloning to Oz again, give Dorothy a hug for me, ok? Thanks. 💛
Can has banjo? 🐱 That banjo has an almost dulcimer like quality it. Works well with the slower tunes.
I love these long form videos! I know it must take a lot of extra effort on your part. Thank you!
Simply lovely! Thanks Phoebe 😊
Such a sweet sounding instrument. Beautifully done. Thank you!😉👍
Thanks Phoebe, for taking me somewhere other than Monday for a while...
Lovely tunes touching my heart. I wish all the people affected by the hurricane all the very best in recovering from that disaster.
I love the look and sound of that particular banjo from your collection, Phoebe. It looks gorgeous and it has a softer sound, closer to a mandolin or a guitar than a banjo. Thank you for sharing it with us.
From those of us with crappy jobs with too much stress, thank you. You helped.
I am playing this on loop. Thank you very much!
We have not heard from several family members who lived, and we hope still live in the Ashville area, and a little west of there.
Thank you Phoebe, I really like the tone of that particular banjo, and also the double C tuning. That was definitely a nice chill tune, and your mom's banana bread looked really good as well.
I love the Elvis clock. But where did you get that banjo? It looks really nice.
You give so much positivity 😊 thank you for your playing of the banjo
Take some time for banjo today, Oh I'm so glad I did.
You are a delight 😊
Phoebe you made my day,,, yes I was out of power here in Indiana but only for 6 hours , easy peasy . But it's Monday evening here in Indiana and I lost a good friend this morning who suffered a long illness. Bless you! your interlude of banjo melodies were a soothing balm on my drained spirit . I thank you and loved the music as I usually do. Frail on kiddo
whats scary is that I started getting ads involving banana bread… Great cozy sweater!
Thank you so much for the lovely music and the good wishes you sent out this afternoon. I was getting ready to cook dinner (veggie burgers) when I saw the alert pop up. That convinced me to hop into the car and venture out to seek the lettuce we needed for our burgers. I had decided to forego lettuce in order to avoid driving, with so many stoplights out around here, and with so few stores with any perishable produce because of the power outages, but the chance to listen to you again on the car stereo fortified my nerves. I was fortunate to find lettuce at the second store I visited, and to spend the trip listening to fine music. It was a very nice selection, and it sounds wonderful in a real stereo system. You surely made my day much brighter with your kindness and your music!
thank you ❤ beautifully heavenly sound
Very good, Phoebe.....thanks 👍
Thanks Phoebe! You're awesome!
sold me in 3 cords...new fan here....
That was beautiful. Thank you.
Phoebe's improvisations are really good. Better than the covers.
just closed my eyes and listened ... when I opened them, I was smiling ... 😌
I experience the same.
Thanks for your caring comments and especially, music! Perhaps you could have a designated “Slow Music” Day. Life is frenetic, a bit of peace and reflection would be most appreciated (And give you more styles to practice!)😊
Storm passed us but it's super rainy, very indoorsy around here. Thanks for the video and great music, now I'm gonna need to make some banana bread!
frick'n gorgeous. love the cutaways on the occasional clams.
Wonderful video and some great music. I really love that particular banjo and it's really mellow sound.
Kind and calming. Thanks!
Sweetness
is that Elvis in the back stage?
A wonderful sound to start my day. Amazingly Beautiful. Phoebe, you should make an album, I bet you would do well. Thank you for sharing. RB
Just shared this on Facebook. The world needs a dose of Dr. Phoebe! ❤❤❤❤❤
Beautifully relaxing.
I love the Elvis clock!😁
It’s strange how just watching your show has changed me, and I’m an Old Goat 🐐 a Real Grouch ! But when I watch your show, I feel young again 😂
Thanks for Being You ! 🥰🥰👍👍🙏🙏
Dang I didn't realize I needed this but I really did, thanks Phoebe
very nice and good :)
Thank you Phoebe. I love watching and listening to folks play their instruments live. So many really talented musicians, pre-record their songs and then mime it back to create the videos, which sounds good (as they're meant to) but never as good as a live performance (hiccups and all). (edit) - that was the best 16:41 seconds I spent all day. Thank you
Awesome. Thanks for sharing - feeling that chill seeping in.
thanks. you have the quality and charisma of a classic story teller with talented musician. p.s. 😘
You are Amazing ! Do not doubt that. We Need You ! Need Your Peace, of course Your Smile and those strings of Happiness. Thank You for always being willing to play for us.
Thank you so much for that pleasant, soothing medley of banjo tunes. I certainly appreciated it, and I’m sure many other viewers did too. I’m watching from Charlotte, North Carolina, and as far as I know, thanks be to God, Charlotte escaped the worst of the damage from Hurricane Helene. Communities north and west of us were not so fortunate. Some cities and towns in Western North Carolina are in desperate need of emergency supplies. Please continue to pray for us and for all those affected. Thank you for all you do.
You have some go-to songs to bring mellow-ness to the heart. And the Phoebe Factor.
Good tunes, atmosphere, and sweater. Thanks for the calming video! Set my mind at ease after a long Monday.
Thanks Phoebe., very friendly and chilled. I also like how you're prepared to play on through those hiccups. We always used to award points for a good recovery. Good on ya.
I think this is my favourite video of yours despite the dire circumstances
It's the magic, soothing sweater; or jumper, as it's called in the UK.
Hey, there's no mistakes. Just an artist, making art for her friends, ok? It was, as you promised: relaxing! 🍀
Thank you much for serenading us out here and down yonder way. It really is so thoughtful and needed.
Elvis always seems to be dancing in time to the tune, regardless of the beat!
That was just beautiful !!!! We all need a time to relax in the world these days. Enjoy all the videos you post and always look forward to them keep up the great job. May peace and love follow you always !!!!
Thanks Doc! Bob Dylan sounds so good on the solo banjo!
Them bells are ringin’ for Saint Catherine in that big old room!
Keep it up you are an inspiration to many!
Listening in Knoxville TN
Nice! Marty Sender You Tube...screw Helene
That's a beautiful banjo! And you sure brought out it's soul and let it shine.
Praying for all who are in need, great idea. Blessings and Shalom in Him
Luckily we are on a ridge and were only inconvenienced by power outages, along with a few nervous hours of the huge white oaks that surround our home whipping around in the wind. Many people lost everything, including their lives. Thanks for the beautiful music, thoughts, and prayers!
Thank you for doing your part Phoebe. We're fine here in the northwest Piedmont but to the west, they have a real mess in the mountains and can use all the help theycan get. North Carolina strong!
She doesn't know how beautiful she really is
That was wonderful Phoebe! Thank you.
This was very relaxing, thank you!
Thank you Phoebe! Exactly what we all needed.
I see Popeye!
bless ya... nice visual metronomes there
It's good of you, doing this.
