I recently got recommended this movie and i just love the animation style. The characters are so expressive and the designs so effective. Over all really enjoyed this one
Felidae is my all-time favorite movie ever. To this day, I'm upset there was only one movie made and only, like, 3 of the books got translated to English. I really want to read the others.
I found this for free on TH-cam when I was like 12 cause I liked Warrior Cats. I remember how some of the gore and disturbing parts of this movie gave me a cold chill. I don’t know if I’ve actually watched it since.
My biology teacher always taught us to have respect for the animals that were killed so that we could learn from them and I still do remember that to this day (also our group named our mink we were dissecting Joffrey (GoT) so we wouldn't feel too bad about cutting him up)
I just LOVE the cat character designs for this film! And even though I sympathize, I also can't help but laugh whenever Saber freaks out seeing a cat get hurt 😅It just means everything about the scene WORKED to full emotional effect!
As I recall, the deal with the military testing explosives on the body was essentially a test for the purposes of forensic understanding. It's not like they just taped blocks of C4 to the body and did shots as they triggered the detonators - they located the body nearby to an explosion to see what the damage would be, especially internally. It would give them a better idea of what kind of damage to be concerned about if a living person was recovered from being nearby to an explosion, and whether they would be worth rescuing and treating. The great grandmother being used was just a case of a man doing some digging and just being shocked and outraged that the body was being used in destructive testing.
Ah Felidae another classic mature animated movie that I've kind of recently a couple mouths ago. Love the designs of the cats and the whole mystery angle of the plot. You guys definitely need to check out Fantastic Planet next since its another old adult animated movie I think Saber never saw before, although you guys would probably have to censor it in some areas. 😅
I'm a jew. Half of the family is from Poland (I'm Brazilian). So sad to see good visuals and really good storytelling now being the work of a extremist, in case of Felidae. I love Watership Down because it reasoned so deep with me (the quest for the promised land) since I've seen it (I was 5... and my mother made me see The Pianist when I was 8) and read the book. Works depicting cruelty are, unfortunately, still realistic. Along with the Theatre of Cruelty, it should be a living memory of human suffering. Elohim bless all the palestine and israeli folk suffering. Let animation remember us that all those who suffer are brothers.
I'm also half Polish, most of that side of my family is long gone now for...obvious reasons. This movie remains a favorite of mine because its message against eugenics and unethical experimentation is still strong despite the author's views now. I'm disabled, autistic, and queer, and despite lacking that connection with my Polish heritage this movie still resonates, and so do many other xenofiction films and books out there. Fuck the author. His books aren't even being sold anymore. This movie can be for us now
@@adumbooctopus1115 I always thought it was weird how the author even got those views in the first place. Like, my brother in Christ, you are a Turkish immigrant in Germany.
Its one of those situations where you have to separate the art from the artist since what they made can be incredible but change can hit people like a truck, sometimes for better and unfortunately like here sometimes for worse
Bringing up Plague Dogs makes me hope they'll finish the dark animated animal movie trio (alongside Felidae and Watership Down). When the Wind Blows is also a dark animated film (and they even do some stop-motion/live segments in the movie), but given recent events, it may not be the best time to watch it...
The Plague Dogs meets David Cronenberg. What *IS* this flick rated in the USA? Felidae is the taxonomic name for the cat family (house cats, big cats, etc). You *GOTTA* do a Plague Dogs review!! It was directed by Martin Rosen, director of Watership Down (my animation professor was surprised that The Plague Dogs is one of my all-time top flicks).
In the experiment with the car and the rat brain, I think they only took a few brain cells. The rat was killed for that, but they didn't have a complete brain in a test tube. Experiments with a few brain cells, I think, had been done before.
In modern times, animal testing is done to save money and time on research. Today it really isn't as much of a necessity as it is today. Theres also just levels of animal testing. Like theres a difference between testing with the expectations of the animal to live on happy and the expectation for the animal to die/suffer, either from the experiment or from it no longer being needed after the experiment.
@@oldscratch426 oh okay, äh. Its written in francis perspective and He is really sarcastic so the books are quote funny, but can get pretty gorey at the end. Most books have a moral about how f ed up humans are. The later books get more fantastical and les science based. The third book so my fav is about a serial killer who kills cats and dogs, so francis has to partner up with a retired police dog for the third book. I honestly love this film. The storytelling and writing is rough, and considering it’s a murder mystery, the movie definitely suffers a bit because of it. The voice acting could also be done much better, but I give it some leeway since it was originally in German. All that aside though, I love the dark nature of this movie, and the overall plot of a cat solving a series of murders. It’s such a weird take but I really like it. The animation is also absolute eye candy to me. It’s on par with a Bluth film imo. I’d love to get around to read the original novel.
I love this movie. The german voice acting is superb (you should try and listen to it sometimes), as is the animation and the soundtrack, too. I wish it'd be a bit longer.
I haven't seen this cat cartoon before, but as I saw the darkened rougher-than-average scenes, you made me want to watch it once. 🙂 I might enjoy it more than the "Fritz the Cat" movie abomination. 😀
It looks like Edgar might have mistaken sleeping pills for LSD, or magic mushrooms, or cactus juice (IT'S THE QUENCHIEST!), or something, and put that into his Creme de la Creme de la Edgar. Plenty of the scenes from this movie could be what Duchess and the kittens would hallucinate.
Loved this movie. Double featured it with "One Stormy Night"(A fan dub) and this movie, and both were on TH-cam. For some reason those two movies led me to Jacksfilms . Like still doing Twilight parodies and wimpy boy bands era Jack
If you liked this, or anyone else reading this likes it, I HIGHLY recommend you read the original book. It goes by the same name, and is much better imo. It takes it’s time with the storytelling and mysteries, and is overall more impactful.
9:54 To the two comments about those on death row/life sentenced prisoners and weirdos, I fully agree with this but only if there's no living family. Animals are not the same as humans and it's asinine to do tests on beings completely different from humans. Animals don't deserve it, but a human who wasted their life with whatever can actually contribute to society.
GOD, this movie traumatized me a little when I was younger. I was just binging old animated movies that I could find for free on TH-cam so I had no idea what I was getting into to say the least. Didn’t know the author or the original book was an antisemitic prick now though, damn. Screw him.
This being free on TH-cam is awesome, but here's hoping it never gets flagged as TH-cam kids because it's animated. 0_0 On a separate note, it's a shame that the books are hard to recommend to people because of the author, because I remember reading an English translation copy on Kindle a decade ago, and he had some cool old animal facts about cats at the end of some of his books. C'est la vie, there's probably similar and/or updated facts about cats online these days anyways. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
On the whole "Animal testing" issue. If you ask me, you can have it one of two ways in order to advance scientific study and in turn medicinal practice. Your options are simple 1, Animal Testing 2, Human Testing. You don't want animal testing? Fine, we'll do humans. Oh you think THAT'S Cruel too? I guess we can't safely advance scientific research or medicine for public use, (Unless you would like your prescriptions to go untested and the customer is the guinea pig instead). Or you know, we just go back to animal testing then. We could clone animals en masse just for the sake of testing...but people would act no differently cause it's still animal testing.
I miss animations like this. The classic art and facial designs are superb 👌🏾
I recently got recommended this movie and i just love the animation style. The characters are so expressive and the designs so effective. Over all really enjoyed this one

i think me and you are the same person 😭 this movie is probably what’s wrong with me today
I found out about this movie when I was 8. To be honest, it didn’t disturb me for some reason, though I still felt bad for the cats.
My biology teacher always taught us to have respect for the animals that were killed so that we could learn from them and I still do remember that to this day (also our group named our mink we were dissecting Joffrey (GoT) so we wouldn't feel too bad about cutting him up)
I was laughing with you when the intro started and didn't realize for a while that a cat was run over 😭
That's one hell of a way to start a movie.

Fun fact: Blue Beard was voiced by Michael Madsen who voices Daud in the Dishonored Series.
Reservoir Dogs reference.

The German word for cat is legit just Katze, it's pronounced similar to cat-za.
Of all the characters to die why did it have to be Felicity? 😭
She knew too much 😭
This is such a strange movie...but I like it. I watched it recently. And I saw your video on it, Saber.

The fact that teenage me found this movie on youtube a long while ago was wild. [I infact had many nightmares as a cat loving kid]

Speaking about donating your body for science, the majority of them are just left in different conditions so they can study decomposition.
You can also specify and choose where/who your body goes to if you choose to do so!
