03:25 our climb up and over the ridge by the Baldy ridgeline trail
09:26 our descent into French Henry & blacksmithing & our emergency change of plans to camp at French Henry due to some of the boys' gear getting soaked
12:20 the next day as we rise at 3:15 for our summit of Mt Baldy,
    18:30 our resupply at Baldytown

I remember your crew! Probably one of the most creative and unique forging requests we got over the summer. Glad you guys could stay with us at French and summit Baldy!

That was also our favorite jam session, that evening during Advisor coffee... The boys really enjoyed their time working with you at the forge, too...

Really great videos and detailed gear list. I see you wore Altras which is what I wear also. Do you recommend them for Philmont? I know lots of people wear them for thru hiking the PCT, CDT, and AT but the Philmont gear list recommends boots. I know BSA is a bit conservative on more old school gear (ie 75L pack recommendation) but I favor light weight gear and am trying to push that with the boys if they can afford to upgrade some of their heavier items like the big 3.

I understand the recommendation as there are lots areas of loose rock all over the property, but I loved my altras and I would highly recommend them. My son wore some merrell Moab fst 2 trail shoes and was completely happy with them. They don't dry out as quickly as the altras but they worked for him. He didn't like heavy boots, either. But everyone else in our crew wore boots. So they can both work. I just prefer the lighter options... Keep challenging them to get lighter and still be completely prepared at the same time. It also may be worth watching other videos about ways to reduce your base weight - th-cam.com/video/xsJk80uMejM/w-d-xo.html ;)
      Thanks for watching!

Thanks, I know the feeling. I'm looking at maybe a 2022 trek for our next go around...

WOW! I really like your videos because they paint a realistic trail experience. A couple of quick questions how hard was it to acclimate to the altitudes? Did anyone in the crew have altitude
sickness? Also, did you get my email on our trek selections?

Bill, thanks for the kind words. I try and capture how I'm feeling along the way. I'm glad it comes through. I started that because I'm not disciplined at journaling, but I wish I were. So this becomes my video journal to help me remember.
As far as the altitude sickness question. We were very blessed to not have much on that front. I credit a few things... Our trek route was very gradual leading up to Baldy, both in mileage and in altitude. Not all treks are this way. Also we really pushed the fluids which can help greatly. Lastly we had a pretty good fitness level for the group as a whole and we tried to be respectful and take breaks as best we could. We were not typically the first crew strolling into camp. Usually we were the opposite. I felt really good going into the trek with the training I did... But you can still see how challenging it was. I was huffing and puffing a bunch on those climbs...
I did see your email of the treks list, but I wanted to look up the routes listed before I wrote back...
